Chapter 18:  Shawn Desman- Dum Da Dum.  Me- Shitty, shit shit.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BRIAN’S P.O.V.

            I felt like shit.

I scrubbed myself clean, scratching my skin with a sponge until it hurt.  I let out a small whimper as it stung, and viciously continued.  When I thought the torture was enough, I dropped the wet sponge in hatred, and let the hot water stab along my sore body.

Eyes tired and shoulders hunched, I leaned against the shower wall.  It was like someone was crushing my chest, slowly a

nd painfully killing me.

Shortly after, I tasted salt and licked my lips.  Was I crying?

Faintly reaching for the switch, I shut the water off and stumbled out of the shower.  I staggered to the mirror and held my breath instead of smashing the reflective glass.

            I looked terrible.

I was swollen all over from the violent scrubbing, and my eyes were puffy and red from the streaming tears.

So this was how it felt to be cheating on someone.  I’ve never felt such strong emotional pain.  I’ve always cheated on girls, but back then, I never cared.  There were more girls out there that badly wanted me, so it was never any of my concern to feel sympathetic.

This time...it was different.  Instead of other girls, I wanted the girl I had already.  I wanted to keep her, but I couldn’t.  It was forbidden with the bet still in place.  Winning was more important at this cost, and so was my reputation.

Still... I went behind her back.  However, I shouldn’t care.  But I did.  Rivyn would never do that to me.  I just kissed so many lips that didn’t belong to her, and I missed her soccer game.

            Rivyn’s soccer game.  Right.

“Arrgghhh!” I shouted in frustration, and pounded the glass with my fist.  The mirror shook, and I merely gasped as the thought of it falling.  Thank god it stayed put.

“Brian?”  I spun around to hear the most beautiful voice in the world.

Rivyn was leaning on the door frame, wearing a long t-shirt that just covered her panties and a small part of her upper thigh.  Her silky straight hair fell past her shoulders, and rolled down her chest.  I took in her sexy long legs and swallowed back the urge to throw her down.

She didn’t look anywhere lower than my eyes, clearly not disturbed that I was stark naked and burning red.  Even my little friend was hanging out.  I was very surprised by her calmness.  She seemed different than the last time she saw me naked.

“You okay?” Rivyn softly spoke, arms crossed.

I nodded and suddenly felt exposed.  I grabbed a towel from the rack and covered up.

“Yeah, yeah, I uh....”  It was so hard to talk to her without confessing about tonight.  Or morning.  It was probably 3am, still pitch dark outside.

“Do you think I’d ever go behind your back?” she quickly asked.

I was stunned by her random question and blinked twice at such an improper outburst.

“Uh....I...”  Fuck, she knew what happened.  Oh shitty, shit, shit.  I called myself every foul name I could think of in my head, and desperately wanted to bury in a corner.

            “No?” she offered, brightening up.

I shook my head, clutching a fistful of white towel.

Rivyn hid her small sigh in relief, and weakly smiled.  “Oh, that’s good.  I’ll best be going then, since you’re all right...” she drifted, turning around.  I was ready to tackle her, not wanting her to leave, but she stopped in place.

“Brian?” she called again, her voice soft and comforting.  It was like my whole body lit up whenever she called my name.

I leaned on the sink behind me, trying to act cool.  Still damp, my wet arm slipped, and I stumbled to the side.

Rivyn stifled a laugh, and covered her mouth, biting back amusement.

“Yes?” I asked, snapping straight, like nothing stupid just happened.

She hugged her left arm and smiled.  “I couldn’t sleep before, so I was thinking...” she leaned back on the door frame, “could I sleep with you tonight?”

Stunned once again, I widened my eyes.  Woah, she wanted to sleep with me?  Suddenly, an evil grin curled on my face, and I reached for the towel around my waist.

Rivyn noticed what I was thinking and rolled her eyes, smirking.  “I don’t mean sex, moron.”

I gave a frown and removed my hand.  Then a mischievous grin crept along my lips, and I wiggled my eyebrows.  “You’re welcome to my bed anytime, babe.”

She rolled her eyes again, and exited the bathroom.

I immediately spun to the mirror, and checked myself out.  I grabbed my favourite cologne and sprayed it everywhere.  Fixing my hair, I grabbed the comb and raked it until it was spiked up.

“Hey, Brian.  Don’t mean to burst your personal bubble, but primping before bed is pretty lame,” she shouted from my room.

Thank god I was in the bathroom, because my cheeks flushed to a tomato colour, similar to my skin.  At least the marks weren’t as red anymore.

I left the bathroom and changed into a shirt and boxers, taking a peek at Rivyn.  One side of her face was planted on the pillow, as she drowned in the large blankets, looking so comfortable and tired.  She did have a soccer game just a few hours ago.

I felt like slapping myself once more, remembering about where I was instead of the game.

Rivyn shifted along the sheets, squishing deeper into the mattress.  I switched my attention back to her, and crept to the bed.

“Pants. Now,” she ordered, not even bothering to open her eyes.

I grumbled a few curses and slipped on a bottom piece.  Climbing into bed, I couldn’t help but smile at her beauty.  She looked so pretty when asleep.  Well, half asleep anyways.

“You went a little overboard on the cologne,” she flatly said, facing her back to me.  She rolled on her side, not giving me anything to look at.

I scowled and let the nightstand lamp on.  I scooted closer to her, wrapping my arm around her waist.  “You don’t like it?” I asked, changing into a deep husky tone that would turn any girl on.

“Brian,” she grumbled into the pillow.  “I’m not here to have sex.  I’m here to sleep.”

            Well, except her.

I tightened my grip around her, pressing my hard chest to her back.  I nibbled along her neck as I spoke.  “Whatever you say.  But I’m a pretty stubborn man to sleep with.”

I might not easily sense emotions, but I could feel Rivyn’s face fall.  Was it something I said?

She turned over, so we could see eye to eye.  My heart skipped a beat again, and my stomach did flips.  Chris was right; I did get nervous around her.

“Why weren’t you at my soccer game?” Rivyn asked, concerned.

I pulled her face close to mine, and inhaled her natural attractive scent.  Much better than that striper.  “Something important came up,” I breathed, as I almost felt myself swooning.

“More important than a promise to me?” she threatened, her voice dangerously aggressive.  I woke up from the daze, rushing back to reality.  I searched her face, looking for an answer.  I had to think up of something quick, or she’d know I’d be lying.

“I was with Chris,” I blurted.  Technically, that was true.

            “Chris?”

“Yeah!  With Chris!  You see.....his car was stuck in the mud on the way to your game—”

“Then how come you didn’t call?” she interrupted, eyeing me carefully.

“My phone died,” I said quickly, not missing a beat.

She studied me until I felt she could see right through.  The moment was silent as the first minute passed by.  I repeatedly kept praying in my head, ‘please believe it, please believe it, please believe it’

As if God heard, Rivyn kissed my forehead and whispered the sweetest words I’ve ever heard, “Then I believe you.”

Relief washing over, I leaned in and softly kissed her.  She let my lips touch hers, but a moment later, she pulled back.

“Do you think I’d cheat on you?” she asked.

Not even putting any thought into it, I whispered a no.

“Do you think I’m stubborn and careless?”

Kissing her nose, I whispered no.

            “Am I a player?”

God dammit women, just kiss me!

“What’s with all the questions?” I asked, stopping by her lips.

Rivyn shrugged and gave an innocent look.  “Nothing,” she spoke.

I hadn’t had the right to drill more questions, since I didn’t even deserve her in my bed.  The questions she asked though... they started to hover over me like a chandelier of daggers.  Tonight, I did cheat on her.  I was stubborn to Chris and carless about Rivyn.  And I was a complete player.

What the hell was wrong with me?  Was this really the reputation I wanted to save?

Confused, I barely noticed Rivyn cuddle up to me, resting her head on my chest.

“Your hearts beating fast,” she whispered, fingers laid across my torso.

My cheeks turned red, and my throat went dry.  I ran my hand up and down her arm, stirring away my embarrassment.  It then lingered down her back, and a quiet groan escaped my lips.

Maybe she could forgive me, when she confesses her love for me, her betraying boyfriend; after the bet.  Later, when this is all over, maybe, just maybe, we could be together.  No rules, lies, or boundaries.  Roaming our relationship freely.  No one using anyone, just a healthy—sexy—relationship.

“Brian,” Rivyn yawned, her voice drowsy.  “I…have to tell you....something...”

Holy shit.  Was she about to confess now?  Was I about to hear the three words that feared me the most?
“What is it?” I murmured, rubbing a tad faster, hopefully waking her up a little.

Rivyn yawned again, and nuzzled closer to me.  I looked down to see her eyes get very heavy, lashes reaching down to her cheeks.  She looked so gorgeous with her hair surrounding her heart-shaped face; lips kissable and breathes soft.  I was absolutely mesmerized by such perfection.

“...I...” she barely whispered, almost turning into a mumble.  “I...” The wait was killing me, and I was suddenly wide awake.  Would I have to confess to her if she did love me?  Would I break up with her?  Would she hate me?  “I....think....I...”

“What?  Think what?” I harshly whispered.

No response.  I ran my hand through her hair, revealing a sleeping beauty.  Even though I was dying to know what she said, I couldn’t just wake her up.

I sighed, and stared up at the ceiling.  So close Brian, so close.

A memory flowed back to my mind; when I first saw Rivyn.  This was back in Canada, when my mother hated where we lived, near the downtown area.

Rivyn was just a girl back then, my love at first sight.  I mean—what?  Rivyn wasn’t my first anything.  Just some girl.

But why did my mom erase that memory, my first memory with Rivyn?  Did she think something clicked between us back then?  Was she afraid?

Or was it because Rivyn was a DeLor?

That made no sense.  Then why did she want Rivyn and her aunt to live with us?

One thing was for sure, I had to have a talk with mom when she came back from her trip.  And for now, ha, I’m just going to enjoy this moment…sleeping with the sexiest girl I’ve met…

            RIVYN’S P.O.V.

            “Can I have that?”

I laughed and passed my tray across the table to Klaire.  “Knock yourself out.  I got a perfectly good salad in my bag waiting for me.”

Klaire snorted and swallowed down a couple of fries.  “Enjoy your bowl of leaves,” she joked, slurping down a Coke.

I rolled my eyes and opened the plastic container.  “It’s a bowl of vegetables for your information.”  I pointed my fork at her, a tomato stabbed on the end.  “It’s just as healthy as a hamburger when including nuts, cranberries, raisins, mangos---”

“Is this lady bothering you, Miss Stevens?”  Shit.  Not him again.

Klaire raised any eyebrow at me, and looked up.  “I’m afraid so—”

“In that case, might I take her away?”

I shook my head, widening my eyes.  ‘No,’ I mouthed.  Every since this morning, Brian’s been bugging me about what I said last night, continuously asking what I was trying to say.  It was driving me crazy.

Not able to tell Klaire that, her evil mind was about to be put to work.  I took my unopened straw and ripped it open.  I quickly grabbed my napkin and rolled it into a small ball, chewing it until ready.  Seconds later, I pointed the straw to Klaire and loaded my weapon.

            “I’d happily —Hey!”

I gave her a deadly glare, as if to say, ‘don’t you dare say yes or you’re dead’ but she just grinned.  I shot another spit ball, this time aiming for her neck.

“Ow!  Brian, take her away before she kills me,” she ordered, throwing a fry at me.

I scowled and felt a pair of hands on my waist.  Immediately, I was lifted off the ground, hanging from Brian’s shoulder.  “See you tonight!” she wickedly sang.  Klaire stuck her tongue out as I was being taken farther and farther away.

I pointed at her, and pretended to slice my neck with my finger.  She mustered an evil grin, and gave me the finger.

            Bitch.

“You know,” I said, as he dropped me down in the hallway.  “Why do you always have to pick me up?  Why can’t you be civilized and just escort me outside, or hold me by the hand or something that doesn’t involve me being treated like a rag doll?”

Brian chuckled, and grabbed my hand, yanking me to his locker.  “Because I ain’t civilized,” he plainly answered, taking his bag out.

“No really,” I scoffed, leaning on the wall.  “It’s like you think you’re King Kong or something, always kidnapping me when I’m in the middle of stuff.  Like a beast.”

He scrunched up his nose, making me giggle.  “Beast?  King Kong I can deal with, but ‘beast’?”  Taking my wrist, he led me down the hall, towards the exiting doors.

“Okay, now that I think about it, not a beast.

“Oh, so you’re saying I have no manliness?” he challenged.

            “No, I mean—”

“’Cause babe, I got a sexy beast under these bad boys that’s ready to---”

I stomped on his foot, triggering for Brian to jump up and down.  “Hon,” I sighed, trying not to laugh, “please don’t be inappropriate while in school.  It disturbs those that want to learn, and grow, heading towards their future,” I passionately lectured.  “And instead, you’re talking about how sexy your genitals are.  Not exactly educational.”

Scowling, he couldn’t help but smile as I said, ‘genitals’.  Like, was that damn funny?

Settling down to a small limp, Brian wrapped his arm around my waist, and guided me out the door.  I suddenly realized that school wasn’t even over yet and we were skipping…again.

“We’re coming back for the school meeting, right?” I asked.

He gave me a puzzled look, and then his face softened.  “The prom meeting?  The one where we decide the theme and other formal shit?  Yeah, don’t worry.”

I narrowed my eyes, and roughly nudged him.  “It’s not shit.  It’s one of the biggest moments of our high school lives!”

“Yeah, yeah.  You’re not going to go all girl talk on me, are you?” he abruptly said, his tone a little worried.

Laughing, I found his uneasy voice funny.   “Where are we going?” I questioned instead, as he ushered me down the long stairs.

“Surprise,” he grinned, winking at me.

I groaned and crossed my arms, as we stepped into his car.  “Why does everything have to be a surprise?”

He started the car, and drove out of the parking lot.  “Why does everything have to go your way?” he offered, turning down a long road.

I frowned and narrowed my eyes.  “What are you talking about?” I snapped, my breathes getting faster.  “Everything doesn’t always go my way!  So many things haven’t gone my way, and so many things didn’t work out right.  And yeah, it would be nice if everything went my way but—”

“Rivyn!” Brian laughed, clutching my hand.  “Take it down a notch, would ya?”

Relaxing, I squeezed his hand and smiled.  “Sorry, I guess I just got a little carried away...”

“Naw, it’s cool,” he chirped, parking by a sidewalk.  “It turns me on when you’re mad.”  Smirking, I couldn’t help but notice that we were turned on about the same things.

Tugging my hand away, I peeked out the window, curious to where we were.  “The park?” I spoke, slightly puzzled.

Brian got out of the car, and opened the door for me.  Taking my hand, he guided me along a paved road.  “You’ll see,” he sang, kissing my cheek.

My heart bounced, and a warm smile was plastered to my face.  Suddenly, near the distance, a green blur was leaning against a tree.  “What’s that?” I asked, squinting.

“What’s what?” he questioned, trying to see where I was looking.  I pointed towards the blur, and glanced up at him.  Trying to bite back a grin, he pretended to hold a blank face.  “I don’t know?  What is that?”  Punching his arm, I ran towards the strange item on the side of the road.

As I continued to get closer, I shrieked at my discovery and ran my hand down the soft handles.  “A bicycle?!  This is like, what, the 20th century model!”

Brian chuckled and came after me.  “I wonder how this got here...” he beamed, pretending to be surprised.  How the hell did he get this?  The old bike had two big wheels, and silver railings, the seat cushioned with black fabric.

“Noooo!” I shouted, my eyes darting to the front of the bike.  “A basket?  Really?  How did you manage to get one of these old things?”

“You know...” Brian smiled, sitting on it.  It seemed to perfectly fit him for someone his height.  “These things aren’t that old.”

I nodded, “True, but here’s a question.  We only have one bike, and there are two of us.”  Grinning, Brian patted the basket in the front.  My face lit up and I sat in the weaved bucket, my butt somewhat comfortable.

“Hold on!” Brian chanted, beginning to peddle.  He was a little wobbly at first, but next thing you knew, we were both laughing as he peddled forward.  The tires smoothly rolled across the pathway that soon branched into the open area in the park.

“Woah!  Watch the tree!” I squealed covering my eyes.  Chuckling, Brian made a sharp turn, making me scream.  “Gagh!  Oh no, be careful around the seagulls!”

Gripping the side of the basket, I tightly held on as he drove the bike straight into the group of birds.  The geese, ducks, and other flight-creatures took off into the air, the sight beautiful as ever.

Going through the tunnel of trees, many leaves began to fall from the wind, multiple colours draping over our shoulders.  The shades of the late fall weather enchanted the scenery, and two birds sang as we strolled along.

“Oh Brian, this is so fun much!” I beamed as we exited the tunnel of trees.  It was just dawn as we left the shady canopy, and entered back into the open.  The sun barely peeked over the horizon, half of it already dipped.

“Wait till you see the next surprise,” he hinted, pecking a kiss on my neck.  My chest thundered and my legs felt tingly, as they dangled from the basket.  For a moment, I was dizzy until the thought of Brian’s close presence made me feel better.

Shortly after, we turned into the public park area, where we started.  Many people were walking their dogs, and elementary boys played football, their day off today.  By the small amount of daylight we had left, they were going to leave soon.

As we spun around the large cemented fountain, I gasped.  The next thing I saw was completely breathtaking.  Hot waves of excitement rushed through my body, and the worries about me cheating on Brian were gone.  I was on cloud nine.

“You like?” he whispered, pedaling forward.
