Chapter 4
CHAPTER FOUR
I woke up early this morning. The wind was chilly and every once in a while, it would blow hard causing the leaves in the tree in our backyard fly away with it.
I stood up from bed and went for the bathroom. I almost froze to death when I turned the shower on. I should probably keep in mind to remind dad about the broken heater.
I did my usual morning rituals. After taking a shower, I went downstairs and ate breakfast.
"What's for breakfast, mom?" I promptly sat down on a chair and waited patiently for mom to serve breakfast.
"Pancakes!" She sang as she put down a plate full of pancakes. Dad arrived a minute later and we ate breakfast together.
Dad hadn't finished his pancake due to the fact that he had 15 minutes left for work. He kissed me and mom goodbye in the forehead and drove for work.
I had to leave early too so I could catch the bus for school. I apologized to mom for not being able to finish my breakfast and grabbed my hand bag.
My bicycle was parked in the garage, near mom's car. I put my bag on the front basket and cycled out of the driveway.
Halfway through my way to school, Connor passed by me on his black Honda Civic.
"Morning, Juliet!" He greeted, sticking his head out the window as he pulled over on the side of the street.
"Hey! Good morning!" I greeted back. I stopped beside his car, near the front.
"It's a long way to school, wanna hitch a ride on my car?" He smiled a smile that could make girls numb on their knees, including me, I admit.
It was true though. Although, I was already 10 blocks away from school but it is still far and I don't think my body could still handle the cycling. I didn't even had proper breakfast.
"Sure," I nodded, "I'm just gonna ask Mrs. Collins if I could leave my bicycle on her garage for a while."
I knocked on Mrs. Collins' door and her daughter opened it up. Her name was Emily and she was seven years old and cute!
"Julie!" She hugged my waist and I almost lost my balance. God, this girl is like a cute koala hugging a tree branch (or a sloth but then most sloths are not that cute).
"Where's your mom, Em?" I asked her in the sweetest voice I could possibly mutter.
"She's in the kitchen making breakfast." She released her grip on me and I sighed in relief.
"Kindly please tell her that I'm leaving my bicycle on her garage? Someone's giving me a ride to school today."
"Okay!"
I went to the garage and placed my bicycle near Mrs. Collins' car.
When I got back to the front door, Emily was gone and the door was shut so I started walking back to where Connor's Honda Civic was parked.
"Sorry, it took so long. Got distracted by a very cute girl." I giggled and put my seatbealt on.
"I didn't know you liked children." Connor said and turned the ignition on and the car roared to life.
"It's basically because we barely know each other. So congratulations, you now know one fact about me." I said the latter sentence with least enthusiasm in my voice.
We arrived at school just in time. We parted ways and went to our homeroom. Unfortunately, Connor and I had different homeroom and most most most unfortunately, Romeo Canavan and I had homeroom together.
I still don't want to talk to him nor see his ugliest of the ugly face. Everytime I see him, I just want to release the hell out of me and attack him like a ferocious lion attacking its helpless prey.
I heard he was dating Linda now. That blonde bimbo cheerleader who almost dated the entire football team. Well, atleast that's what Freeya has told me the other day.
I swear they're not gonna last a day or two. But to be honest, I don't really give a crap on who he's dating. He can date all the girls he want. Many are willing.
But what I have noticed about his social life right now is that it's going down the highschool food chain ever since Connor arrived.
I understand that people wanted a new face but I think it's kinda scratching his reputatian that lot's of kids in our school, especially the girls (who were once a fan of his), are taking interest on Connor more than him.
I feel bad and happy at the same time for him though, because for once in his highschool life, he's feeling the feels of not having people worship the path he's walking on to.
Our homeroom teacher discussed something about the event that's going to be held in three months time for a charity us seniors are going to make. It is a performance our batch is going to remember 'til we die.
I think our performance has something to do with dancing. I'm not quite sure though since she told the class to find a partner and get ready for practice after school. Dancing needs partners so I assumed it was dancing.
Everyone had their partners except me. What a loner I was!
"Ms. James, I don't think I can join the charity! I don't have a partner!" I said as I put my hand on her shoulder. Her back was facing at me so she turned and faced my worried self.
"Don't worry, dear. Romeo's going to be your partner. Our play will be a musical and a dance production. It is entitled Romeo and Juliet!" Mrs. James clasped her hands and sighed dreamily. Her eyes shining bright like a diamond.
"Okay but wait, what?! Are you serious?" I asked, hoping that she's just playing a sick joke on me.
"Yes," I almost fainted, "now, those who are good at singing please fall in line here, and those who are good at dancing, here."
"I can't believe we're having this play! It sucks." I punctuated my sentence with a frown and a slouch on the table. It was already lunch and the only time of the day our clique could hang out together.
"But Mr. Barrett said it's for cancer patients, how could you say that?" Tommy questioned and took a mouthful of sandwich.
"Oh, I didn't know that. Sorry. But do you even have any idea on what play we are performing?" I asked him and felt a little guilty of what I had said a while ago.
"No. What is it?"
"It's Romeo and Juliet! Freaking Romeo and Juliet! Ugh!" I banged my forehead on the table and I could tell people are looking at us.
"Okay? So who's playing Juliet?" Tommy asked innocently.
"Don't you get it? I'm playing Juliet and Romeo freaking Canavan is playing Romeo's role."
"So?"
"I hate it! I hate him! I hate my playing as Juliet, but, I'm gonna do this. For the cancer patients." I took a deep breath and closed my eyes, counting 1-10 to make me feel relaxed.
"I'm not that bad." I heard Romeo Canavan's voice. I lift ny head up and saw that he was sitting righy across me. Sitting at Hannah's chair.
Speaking of Hannah, what took her so long?
"What's taking Hannah so long?" I asked Tommy, ignoring Romeo Canavan's false statetment. Tommy was now ogling at him.
"Hey!"
"Oh um, sorry. I think she's coming."
"What are you doing here?" I crossed my arms on the table and shoot him death glares so that he could die and never bother me again.
"I'm just being a friendly protagonist."
"Yeah whatever. Go away, that's Hannah's seat." I slap his arms hard and he youched in pain. Ha! Go away!
"Fine." He grumbled as he picked up his tray and went to his table.
The frown on my face remained intact the whole afternoon and it got worse once Math class started.
So when Mrs. Potter dismissed the class, I went out of the room immediately and went straight to the auditorium where the practice would be held.
There were a lot of kids inside when I arrived. And Mr. Barrett, one of the 12th grade teacher, is standing near the stage entrance.
"Since we're all here already, I'm going to hand out the script to all of you now. It contains the lyrics and lines for the play."
5 students started distributing the scripts to us. When I recieved mine, I almost muttered a bad word. God, it was 10 pages and there were a lot of words.
"That's all for today. You may now go. Remember to memorize everything written in there." Mr Barrett went down the stage and I immediately told him about my misery.
"I'm sorry Juliet, it's final unless you want the charity to be cancelled. We can't do that. This charity is for the cancer patients and I know you have the potential to take this role, so does your love interest in this play, Romeo." His eyes were filled with apologies and I couldn't do anything but nod. Guess I'd be memorizing these long lines then.
He pushed pass me and exited the auditorium.
When I arrived at the school's parking lot, I mentally killed myself for not telling Connor this morning that I would need a ride home from him too.
Tired and wasted, I started walking.
"Juliet! Seriously, you're walking home?" I heard Romeo Canavan's voice enter my ears and I stopped walking.
"Who cares?" I raised an eyebrow and faced him. He had his bike running, following my slow paced walking.
"Hop on!"
"Since when do you care?" I glared at him as I point my index finger on shoulder-level.
"Since today. I thought we should, you know, practice being close and comfortable with each other since we're going to be a couple in a stupid play." He explained in an annoyed tone. What the hell?!
"I have 3 sentences I'd like to say. First, no thanks. Second, I'd rather walk than you take me home. Third, I would consider hitch hiking in your vehicle if it were the BMW you are using today." I poked his shoulder and started walking again but I guess he's not giving up. He was still following me.
"Okay fine." I gave up. He stopped the engine of his bike and I held his shoulder as I swing my right leg on his bike. When I got settled down, I released my grip on him.
"You probably want to hold on to me for a while." He turned the ignition on and his bike roared to life. The next thing I knew, my sweaty hands were all over his waist and I was praying for my life.
I hate you were the first three words I said to him once we arrived on my house.
"Yeah, you're welcome!" I turned around on my heel and closed the gates, leaving him outside. I am not going to let him in for some iced tea or whatevere after what he had done to me a moment ago.
"I'm home!"
