Chapter 3
Izzy was going on and on about how she was going to be prom queen. Which meant that Jeremiah was most likely going to be prom king. And he would to, they were the most popular people at school. Izzy did cheerleading and Jeremiah was all star football player and basketball....you name it they did it. I played basketball and soccer. And any other sport they'd let me play. Guys were always keen on a pick up game of football with me cause i was good but not so keen on dating me. Which i had been ok with until i met Jeremiah. And he was just so cute! And Taken...taken.... I hated i had to keep reminding myself of that.
The day of the prom finally arrived. The girls had gone to do the works and my aunt had taken me to the salon. She had set me in a chair right away to get my toes and fingers done. "Oh honey you haven't touched this in years." She said combing out my strands. "No, first time. Not really my thing." I said. "I know, ah Well we are gonna make you look fabulous. Can we cut it? Highlights?" She asked. I wanted to look good. Images of Jeremiah flashed into my mind. He would like it. But that was wrong. "Let's do it." I said.
I thought of Greg. "Hey Tristen, you going to Prom?" He asked. "Maybe, why?" I asked. "Well i don't have a date, i was just checking. Maybe if you don't get a date we could go? I'll get with you." He said. Yes it was vague but seemed to insinuate that he would like to ask me. She had put rollers in my hair as well. When she said three hours was needed i thought that was a bit much but the manicure and pedicure as she had called it took forty five minutes alone. But the color was lovely.
Once my fingers and toes had dried she started putting on makeup. "I'm so glad you're finally letting them do this." She said. "Yea, well it's a prom it's kind of a given." I said. "Your date is going to be blown off his feet." She said. "Eh Greg punked out on me." I said. "Well did he at least tell you why?" She asked. "Nope. But I'm over it." I said. "Well ok then, can i show you how to do makeup for everyday use?" The girl asked. "Please do." I said. "I picked this up special for you and thought you could keep it with you." My aunt held up the blue bag. "Thanks." I said. The girl showed me how to do an everyday makeup routine then did it a smidge darker for the the prom.
She took my curls down after spraying them and pinned them back. "Go home, get dressed and have fun." My aunt said giving me a hug. "I will, and thanks again." I said waving as i left. My dad and Bella were waiting with the camera once i was all dressed. They got tons of shots of me. "Where are the girls?" Bella asked looking out the window. I wanted to say 'you know it takes a pound of makeup to make Izzy look good and Bri has to babysit her.' But that wasn't nice. So instead i said. "I think they're still getting ready."
She turned around. "Okay then, I'm gonna go check on dinner. Let me know if they get here." Bella said. "Let me help you." My dad said putting his hand on her lower back. So either the girls would come down or the dates would show up. Either way i was gone. I heard a car door slam. Finally i could get out of here.
The doorbell rang. I pulled the door open. It was Jeremiah. "Wow You clean up nicely." I said letting him in. "Me? You look...wow...amazing. The hair, the dress...it's all...perfect." He said. "Aww thanks. It's kind of lame i don't have a date though." I said.
"Well i think you'll survive." He winked. "Yea this coming for a guy who HAS a date." I said. "Touché' well Greg is an idiot." He said. "I'll have to talk to him about that." I said sighing. "Oh, i think he said something about the team going together? I don't know." He shrugged.
"Maybe, but i just hope some poor schmuck also went alone and will offer me a pity dance." "Well I'd be happy to dan..." "Jer!! Baby oh you look so handsome. If i didn't mind smudging my lipstick I'd totally kiss you...that tux is so nice. Even if you have no orange." "Well i do have this." He held up a corsage with Orange lilies. "Oh honey, it's beautiful." I quickly left while they were making goo goo eyes.
The dance was already in full swing when i showed up. Loud music bumped through the speakers. I saw Greg out of the corner or my eye and turned to wave. He came over. "Wow you look amazing tonight Tristen!" I smiled. "Thanks, so do you. Where's your date?" I asked. "My date?" He asked looking confused. "Don't pull that on me you must have a date or else you would have asked me! Because going with the guys was a lame excuse and i know Jeremiah was trying to spare me. "Yea." I looked around.
"I don't have a date, I mean i thought i was going to ask you but then Jeremiah said..." "Wait Jeremiah?" "Yea. I asked him, if i asked you to the dance if he thought you'd go with me." "And what did he say?" I asked getting a little bit aggravated, if he was the reason i came here alone i'd punch him. And i know it would hurt. "That you already had a date." He said. "What? That's crazy i don't have a date."
"Maybe It's not that crazy, look." He nodded over my shoulder. I saw Jeremiah and Izzy dancing. Jeremiah caught my eye and smiled. "I think he's into you, despite the having a girlfriend thing." He said shrugging. I frowned. "You think?" I asked. "Yea, I think so. He's been pretty much staring at you since he walked in. This is totally awkward but since I'm guessing things can't get any worse. You wanna dance?" He asked. "Sure." They were playing Jason Aldean's Easy. I just loved this song. I mean when i think about what love should be, that is it. It should be easy. When it was over they said they would be calling king and queen soon so Izzy ran off to fix her makeup.
"Thanks for the dance." I said. "You too, i guess since were both dateless I'll see you again." Greg chuckled. "Yes, I'm glad you're going to save me." "Oh anytime! I'm gonna go grab some punch, would you like some?" He asked. "Maybe later, thank you." I said.
I walked over to Jeremiah. "So, i just had the craziest conversation." I said. "Did you now?" He asked smiling. "Yea, with Greg." He looked nervous. "Yea, he told me he asked you if you thought i'd go to the prom with him. And you told him i had a date when i specifically told you i didn't have a date. So I'm here... alone..." I said agitated.
"And what's even crazier is He seems to think you like me. Which is nuts because you have a girlfriend." I had gotten everything out, and now he could explain i just hope he had a good explanation, because going stag is totally lame. He looked down at his feet. "Look, i don't know why i told him that. I guess i got jealous at the idea of him going out with you." "And why might that be?" I asked. "You have a girlfriend." I pointed out again. He groaned. "I know, and she's kind of a pain. You know that."
"Of course i do, but what i don't know is what it's got to do with me." I said. "Because you're not a pain, you're the opposite of a pain. And you don't like that crazy girly stuff and you like sports and i can actually talk to you. Where you don't tell me 'oh my gosh Jer i have to go tan, it's been like two days. And, my nails are getting chipped. Oh my gosh did you see Megan sanders new boobs? I'm so Jelly. I just want bigger boobs what do you think Jer?" I bent over laughing.
"That impression was oddly enough spot on." I said. I didn't know what he meant but all that. All i knew was he thought i wasn't a pain. "So I guess I'm still confused." I said. "About?" "So, what does 'I'm not a pain mean?'" "That you're not a pain?" He asked confused. "Yes but Greg thinks you like me, like me." I said feeling like i was in third grade again. He put his head down. "Maybe he's not wrong, but i can't say that because you know I'm still with Izzy and stuff." "I understand. Boy do I." I said.
"Well, dance with me." He said taking my hand. "I don't want Izzy to catch us." I didn't say that like we were doing anything wrong like dating behind her back. I meant it as if she found us she'd kill us. She doesn't even like us to talk to each other, and maybe now that i knew he liked me things were different. "She'll be in the bathroom ten minutes, that line went around the building." "Alright." I let him pull me close. He smelled so so good. Now it was my turn to be jealous of Izzy. I kind of hoped he broke up with her. But it was probably wrong of me to think of sliding in. I felt guilty.
"You really do look incredible." He said leaning me back. "Thank you, so do you." "And that dress...Man" He bit his lip. My insides went to jello. He spun me around and pulled me to him again. I crashed against his chest and we locked eyes. The heat was so intense. I could've kissed him right then and there. But even if he broke up with Izzy, at this moment they were still together.
"You don't think it's to much?" I asked. "No, it's just enough. But i am kind of sick of hearing how good your boobs look in that dress." He said. "Oh my boobs make you sick do they?" I asked. He leaned towards my ear. "Not at all, they are...mm perfect. But Izzy is jealous." He said. "Well I'd gladly trade her." I said. "She'd be up for that, but can i ask why?" He asked. I shrugged. "It'd just make playing sports easier." He laughed. "And that's what i like about you most." He said spinning me around. I had kept my eyes on the door. Good thing too because at that moment Izzy came back inside. I pulled away quickly.
"Ew Jer, baby please. Don't stand next to her. I think homeliness spreads." I was going to take whatever he said next to decide whether i could date him or not. If he said something like you're right babe let's go. I'd smack him. "Izzy please don't start that again. Tristen is not homely." He said defending me. "Whatever you say dear." She said dragging him away from me. He turned to me and mouthed that he was sorry. I shrugged. What are ya gonna do?
