Chapter 2
I was very unhappy that Izzy and Bri would be staying at our house. Everything was going to be different but as long as they stayed out of my way that was fine. Later after we had all had dinner the girls were getting settled. "Maybe we can just kick Tristen out of her room." I hear Izzy say from the hall. The door was open seconds later. They walked in. "Ew is this seriously your room? Why do you have so many sports trophies. I mean don't you have a life?" Izzy asked laughing. "This IS her life. I told you that earlier silly." Bri said.
My room did have a lot of sports trophies and my walls were painted a dark blue. I had a plaid bedspread with matching curtains. Ok so it was kind of boyish. But it was me. I didn't like pink. Or really purple and flowers and butterflies. Not my thing. So oh well. "Never mind it's kind of gross in here. You can keep it...I'm making your daddy give me the dining room anyways. It's bigger." Izzy said. "And you guys can share. Excellent well have a nice night. Thanks for stopping by." I said ushering them out. "Don't hurry back." I said.
"I get it, don't worry i'd hate for any of this ugly to rub off on us." Said Izzy. "See you later." Said Bri. I followed them out to make sure they weren't going to come back. "Honey i'm going to have to clear out the dining room and make that the girls room." My dad was telling Bella. "Right, we could eat at the bar. I could get them both a bed." Bella agreed. "Right and as for their clothes...well i don't know about that." "We could hang a rod in there and get them both a dresser i mean the room is big enough." Bella said. I groaned. Please do not move into my house, move out. Like now.
"Well it's Friday maybe we can do that tomorrow i need to get them more clothes makeup and things." She started to cry. Ok then i felt back. My dad pulled her into a hug. "It's going to be ok. You and the girls can stay here as long as you need and you'll be able to rebuild the house soon." "You're right. At least we were able to keep most of our things on the lower half thanks to Tristen." She said. "The insurance guy is coming on Monday?" My dad asked. "Yea and hopefully they'll be able to quote us what we need for the new house." "I'm sure." "What do you think started the fire?" My dad asked. "Bri said something about a candle and a match? I don't really know." I walked away after that because i heard noises coming from the living room.
Great they were tearing up my house!! What in the heck!? I stormed into the room. "What is...Jeremiah hi." I said. "Is Izzy here?" He asked. "Oh in the shower." Bri said coming in the room. "She may be awhile. I'm heading out to meet Ty. Bye." Ty and Bri had been going out for a while and they were actually cute together. She closed the front door and left.
"Well come in, have a seat." I motioned to the couch. "So did you hear about the trade we just made?" I asked. "Yes! What are they thinking!? We have no good players left and our qb is getting old." "I know but he's still good." "The best and they didn't renew his contract how are we going to survive!?" "We'll get crushed." I said. Talking sports was my bread and butter. You'd think more guys would be interested me!
"Totally. So do you and Izzy watch football together?" I asked biting my lip to keep from laughing. "Yea right, she thinks it's so boring and would rather go shopping." "Now that sounds boring." I said. "Right!? And get this, prom is like in three weeks and she's already making me go shopping with her." He said. "Is that something guys usually do?" I asked. "I have no idea, but she says i have to so she can be sure i love the dress and that we match. Only problem is..."
"She's straight as a board?" I asked cracking a smile. He laughed hard. "No, and that's not nice. True, but not nice." "You're right, I'm sorry." I covered my mouth with my hand to keep from giggling. "The problem is, I've seen her in a dozen dresses already and she can't make up her mind. Are you going?" He asked. "Shopping with Izzy? Not on your life." "No." He laughed. "I meant Prom." "Maybe, it's not really my thing. I mean it's a girly thing honestly. And I'm not." "But I'm a guy and I'm going." He pointed out. "Yea but you're going with a girl. I'm so not girly." I said. "But that's not a bad thing. You'd have a good time!" He said.
"Maybe, and i heard that Greg might ask me. He's nice, cute and a good dancer so it won't be too bad of a time. Guess I'll have to get a dress either way." I said. "OH honey, there you are. Just what i wanted to talk to you about. Where's Izzy?" Asked my dad. "In the shower." I answered. "Oh well Bella and i thought it'd be great if you guys went dress shopping for Prom tomorrow. I mean it'd be nice for you to have a girls opinion since you're oversized pull over might not be such a great option." My dad said. "Probably true." I said. "I'm so glad you were already talking about it, i thought it'd be like pulling teeth." My dad said. "No, but shopping might be like pulling teeth. I'll go." I said. Because i knew he'd talk me into it anyways he always did. And if Greg did ask me I'd need a dress.
Izzy finally came down the stairs. She took one look at me and Jeremiah on the couch and narrowed her eyes. "I'm here people." She said as if her entrance needed to be stated. I left after that, to much izzy was bad for my health.
The next day we were at the dress shop. Izzy and Bri had already tried on seventeen dresses between the two of them. Bri had picked out a long dress that was pearl white and beautiful against her dark skin. It flowed out and had no straps. Ty really seemed to like it. And he was throwing around the idea of wearing a matching white tux. Bri was trying another dress and Jeremiah looked like he was about to fall asleep. Poor guy. "I just need a better padded bra, but one that looks not fake you know?" "Mhm..." Jeremiah said his eyes blinking rapidly. "I wonder if i could get one that gets me to a C cup!" She gasped. And you want it to not look fake?
I took this time to find a dress. I didn't know what i needed I'd never bought a dress before. I rifled through a rack with brown and olive green dresses. "Do you need any help you look kind of lost." The sales girl asked me. "Actually i am. Never had to do this before." I shrugged.
"Ok let me help you. What colors do you like?" She asked. "Anything but pink?" "Ok that narrows it down." She laughed. She handed me three dresses in my size. One was dark purple and had sparkles all over the sweetheart neckline which i surprisingly liked. They went down to the full ball gown. One was Jade green that sort of matched my eyes. Cleavage which i never did and less of a poof. But i had boobs so most dresses would have cleavage i found out. It even had the sparkle which was growing on me. And a third no poof. Black and silver sparkles all over. "Which one should i try first?" I asked. "I'd go with the green. It's a showstopper." She said pushing me towards the dressing room.
"Ugh my girls are so not doing this dress any favors. Hey mam do you maybe have a padded dress?" I snickered at Izzy. She was so vapid. I couldn't believe she was still going on about her stupid boobs or lack thereof. I closed the door behind me. I slipped off my shoes and jeans. Then my shirt and pullover. Bri had been kind enough to tell me to bring a strapless bra. Which i didn't have. But then i found one of the bra's my aunt bought me had removable straps.
Thanks Aunt Lori. She bought all of 'those' things. It was just to much on me, and i was grateful she was girly. I slipped into the dress and zipped the back. I pushed the bottom out and finally looked at myself. Woah. I looked like a girl. I usually tried to avoid such things. "Honey are you ok in there?" The sales lady who had helped me asked. "Oh uh yea." "Well come out I'm dying to see." She said. I walked out. "Woah, that dress is amazing!" She said. Bri looked up. "Wow that green is perfect for you." She said. "Ew don't compliment the...freaking what the heck!? What bra do you use!?" She asked. "Uh...i don't know? These are pretty much mine." I said. "Oh that is not fair!!" She was screaming and half the store was noticing.
Even Jeremiah woke up. "What..." His eyes landed on me and his eyes traveled the length of the dress. "Is it ok?" I asked suddenly shy. "Don't ask my boyfriend what he thinks! Jer don't answer her." She said putting her hand out. "Well he's the only guy around and I'd like a guys opinion." Ty had gone to find shoes. Jeremiah stood up. He walked over. "Tristen. It's beautiful." he said, with so much sincerity in his eyes. Dang why couldn't he be my date to the prom? Why was i so into him? "Hello, you never said that about my dress?" Izzy stomped her foot. "That's because I've seen ten already and they're starting to blend together." He said sitting back down. "Well fine, you're awake now just try better next time." I went in at the same time she did and came out at the same time too.
"What do you think?" She asked. Jeremiah looked at her then looked to me. "Amazing. You look really different. Good different." He smiled. I kind of think he was talking to me. "Oh baby, i knew it this dress was perfect who knew orange was so my color!" She ran to him. "Orange...wait what?" "You're so funny. You can't get out of wearing orange." "Babe, look orange isn't really my color. But don't worry I've got a tux and the stuff is beige it goes with anything."
"Am i hearing you correctly!? You're not wearing orange!?" She screamed. "Well it's just i didn't know when you were gonna pick a dress and my mom made me rent it so I'd have a decent tux. She said my dad waited and had to wear a powder blue tux, but i can't help but feel that was in style back then..." "This is not ok." She kept rambling but i went inside to try the next dress on. I was not going to try on more than that. This was torture enough. I came out. "Honey i like it." The lady said. Jeremiah put a thumbs up behind Izzy's back. I couldn't help but laugh. "I think i like the green one though. Yea?" I asked the lady. "It was really the best." "I need shoes. Come on Jeremiah." Izzy said pulling him up and towards the shoes.
"Actually my mom is calling hang on." He pulled his phone out. "Fine looser, Bri lets go." She pulled her sister's arm. She caught my eye and rolled hers. I smiled. Maybe she wasn't so bad after all. "I should go help them." The lady said. "But try the green one on once more just so you're sure but it was beautiful." She walked off. I came back out moment later in the green dress.
I checked myself out in the mirror. Wow it actually looked ok. "So why don't you wear stuff like this more often?" Jeremiah asked hanging his phone up. I jumped started. "You mean prom dresses? Yea can't imagine that'd go over real well in math." I joked. "No, that's not what i meant." He laughed. "Girl stuff, i mean people call you a guy all the time and that's clearly not the case." He said his eyes trailing to the cleavage. I blushed. "I don't know at first it was because my mom wasn't around to help me. My dad put me in what he thought was okay. He didn't know any better. And then my aunt tried to help me. She has all boys. And honestly? I just don't care. I like what i wear. It's comfortable and good for playing sports in."
"But here me out. If you play sports. Your sweats and baggy shorts are fine, but you could wear something like a V-neck shirt and shorter shorts? I mean you ARE a girl. Would it be so bad if guys noticed?" He asked. "Maybe, i like knowing that i can hang with the guys i don't mind not being seen as a girl." I said. "Right but most guys don't want to date another guy it's why were into girls." He said. "I guess you have a point, i don't know i guess i never really knew how to dress." I said. "And you don't care." He said. "I so don't care!" I said laughing.
"I like that about you. I don't really care for high maintenance girls." I laughed so hard. "Are you serious right now? You've met your girlfriend right?" I asked. "Ok, but i guess i never noticed she was that bad. And i just sort of took it. My dad left when i was younger and my mom's tried to date and all the guys were jerks to her so i just figured if i gave in every once in a while who cares, ya know? I mean i want to treat my girlfriend like a queen. But Izzy definitely takes it to far sometimes. Just...i don't know." He put his hands in his pockets. "Guess i can't say no at this point, I've let it go on for so long." He sighed.
"I understand." I said. "But you know you can tell her no." "Nah she'd flip." He said. "But if you give in to everything how do you ever get anything you want? Don't you want a girl you don't have to do that with?" I asked. "Maybe, but if i stand up for myself she might break up with me." He said. "Would that be so bad? She might just be doing you a favor!" I said. He nodded thoughtfully. "You might be right there, but it seems like she thinks we're the it couple at school and we're just supposed to be together." He shrugged. I nodded. "I get it i do." I pulled at the dress.
"That dress, it's really beautiful on you." He said pushing a strand of my hair behind my ear. "Thank you." I blushed as his hand caught my cheek. So i wasn't seeing things? K well things were going to get interesting then. He looked into my eyes. "You're beautiful." He said slowly biting his bottom lip. I sucked in a breath. "All because of a dress? That's silly." "No, you just are. I noticed it without the dress. But standing here, it just seems that i should tell you. Maybe it's that i can finally see you without all the layers of clothes. And remember what i said, it's ok to try a little harder every once in a while. Make up, hair, nice clothes."
"I don't think so." I said. "Sure even i do it. If I'm going on a date I'll put on a nice shirt, fix my hair even put on some cologne. No date i get deodorant and basketball shorts at best." I thought about what he had said. Maybe he was right. Maybe i could be a girl. Well the girl i had always been and sometimes...sometimes do a bit more.
"Maybe you're right." I said. "I'm always right." He winked. I melted. Why was he so cute?! And taken. I reminded myself. I'd never do anything to break Izzy's heart. Since apparently she might be my sister one day or something stupid like that. And even if she was a vapid barbie doll, nobody deserved that.
"Well what if this is the best i can give?" I asked needing to know. He laughed. "That works too, I'm down with that. I mean you know some guy that is interested wouldn't mind it y'know because you have a great personality." He said bumbling his words. I stepped back. "Right, well let me get changed and we can go. Oh and by the way i guess i can't miss you at the dance since your date is gonna be wearing pumpkin!" I laughed. "Whatever i was distracted." He said laughing. "Oh? By what?" I asked smirking. He didn't get to answer me because Izzy showed up at that moment. But i think we both knew by what.
"Okay i've got my shoes!!" Izzy said holding them up. "Excellent, let me get changed then we can go." I said. I quickly put my clothes back on and we left.
My aunt had gotten me some shoes. Trying on dresses was enough for me. She would take me to a hairdresser so they could tackle my hair and makeup. But i wasn't really looking forward to prom. It had been a week and Greg had yet to ask me out. And the weird thing is. Before he sounded kind of interested now he didn't.
