Chapter 9
Oftentimes excusing of a fault
Doth make the fault the worse by the excuse.
WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE,
Chapter 9
Roger’s POV
I was going crazy here and it was getting later. I could not find it in me to face her and beg for forgiveness. Admitting the truth just seems so pointless and so small. I have to find a way to make it up to her. To show her how much she means to me.
How much she has brought to my life. How much I love her for keeping my child. With the way I treated her. She could have opted not to have the baby. I in her place have no idea what I would have fucking done. I am so fucked. But she still loves me. She has too.
She would not have agreed to marry me if she didn’t still feel something would she? I mean yeah she never backs down from a bet. But come on she would have said no if she wanted to.
“Stupid, stupid idiot, what the hell are you going to do now?” I started to formulate a plan that might work.
What if I scrap the bet? The last thing I want to do now is get her in bed. I will court her and woo her into loving me again. I will do with her what a proper gentleman would do for the woman he loves. Because you bet your ass I love her. I think like I told her. I’ve always loved her. I was just too much of a freaking horn dog to settle.
I just hope it’s not too late and I can sneak back into her heart. I’m done playing games. Oh shit I was PLAYING AND GOT PLAYED she won. I smile wide as I realize the player finally got played and damn if I’m not happy about it.
With a new plan in place and a bright future ahead of me I exited the gym and headed to get help from the most cunning and cleverest of masterminds. I mean the person who will be able to help me break through the high walls. I am 100% sure Molly has constructed around her heart, in hopes of keeping me out. The one person with a bag of arsenals, that can bring any person to their knees.
I drove happy and excited about what I could do. I arrived and knocked at the door. I smiled when my savior answered the door. “Mom I need your help” I tell her and she smiles that welcoming smile. That smile that saved 5 little boys who would have not had this wonderful life had it not been for her and dad. Man I love them so much.
“Que necesitas?” she asked what I needed.
“Mom I finally remembered that night with Molly. I will not even tell you what I did because you’ll probably hit me. But I love her mom.” I went on to explain about the bet. She did smack the back of my head about it.
“I think I knew I loved her but not why yet. It just seemed like the logical way to connect her to me besides the baby” I tell her.
“Oh my son you have a lot of damage control to do. But she is a good girl. I’m sure she loves you. I see the way she looks at you when you don’t look. It’s the same way you openly look at her. That’s why I never questioned the wedding. You are meant to be together.” I smile at her happy she thinks it’s not too late.
I went home taking the baby with me. When I got home she wasn’t there but she had left a note saying she went out for an afternoon of beauty. “Well my little Monica, seems we should start the courting.” I told my daughter.
Before we got home, we stopped off to buy some flowers for Molly. It was a mixture of wild flowers, since she is my wild cat. She needs something that represents her personality. I put them in a vase that I’m sure mom had purchased, because I sure as hell didn’t. I placed the arrangement on the table next to Monica who was on the bouncy thing on the table. Looking at me as I talked to her while I cooked.
Yes I was cooking dinner for my family. “See my little girl; I learned a thing or two by watching mom in the kitchen. This is how you separate the white of the egg from the yellow.” I was making chilles rellenos one of moms specialties that all 5 of us boys learned to make. It made us remember mom when we ate it.
But I got shells in the mixture and I burnt the peppers. Then I burnt my finger and screamed in pain. It was then that I heard Monica’s first giggle. I stopped dead in my tracts and looked at her. She looked at me and I thought I was hearing things. So I yelled out again and she giggled right there in front of me, I was in awe.
I ran to her and pulled her out of her bouncer and kissed her “baby girl you little sneak are you laughing at daddy?” I asked her as tears streamed down my face. I never knew you could love a little thing like this so much. That the simplest thing such as a giggle can make you feel like the richest man in the universe.
I heard the door bell just then and went to open the door. There stood Grady and Victor holding a bunch of bags. “What the hell happened?” asked Grady all worried. Man he needs to chill; he spent our whole life fathering us.
“Why are you crying bro.?” They asked.
“Monica giggled.” I told them. Then victor started laughing at me and Grady punched him in the arm to shut him up and Victor yelled and Monica giggles again and they all went silent and then ran to the baby.
“Do it again, do it again” said Victor to Monica who just looked at him. “Why isn’t she laughing?” he asked.
“Because nothings funny” Grady tells Victor just before he punches him again making him yell out and Monica giggle again.
“Ahh, typical women, already laughing at the pain of a man. They started you young didn’t they Monica.” Victor tells Monica as he tickles her and she laughed.
“Oh shit she’s ticklish” he said as Grady took her from my arms.
“Oh my we are really going to start having some fun with you young lady.” He tells her and she smiled like she understood. I must admit it was really fun seeing Grady and Victor acting silly cooing at the baby trying to get her to giggle again.
“So what brings you by?” I asked them.
“Mom sent you her bag of arsenal. There are beans and rice and salsa. Some Millanesas and some tortillas and she made Flan and who knows what else. She said to tell you that one of the ways to a woman’s heart. Like with men starts through her stomach.” Victor said smiling.
“Can we stay for dinner” Grady asked with a knowing smirk.
“No but you can stay long enough to care for Monica while I run in the kitchen get things ready. Then you guys can split and take the evidence.” I tell them smiling and happy mom was on the ball. She knows me so well. I used to burn the food growing up also.
Once everything was set, I sat down to read a baby book to Monica. While I waited for my wife to come home.”Hmm says here it’s good to take a bath with your baby. The skin on skin contact is good for the baby. What do you say me and you take a shower together later.” I told Monica and she smiled at me.
Just then Molly came in looking all happy.”Well why are you guys all spiffed up” she said. I had dressed casual but dressy and put a little frilly pink dress on the baby also.
“Well tonight is date night. Dinner is ready; if you want to wash up we can start.” I tell her and she looks at me confused at first. Then smiles and heads upstairs to clean up. I served the plates and heated the tortillas in the microwave. When she came down everything was ready.
“Well, look at this spread.” She said as she sat down and saw the table was set.
“Thank you for doing this she said” as we ate and I updated her on what we talked over with Joe today. I put the plates in the dish washer and got the dessert and we went to sit in the living room.
“Oh this stuff is sinful; it’s a perfect end to the night.” She said smiling at me, making my insides warm.
“Oh the best part of the night is yet to come” I tell her and she looks at me wide eyed.
“Let’s show mommy how our sense of humor started” I tell Monica as I pretend to hit the table and scream and she starts to go into a fit of giggles.
“Oh my goodness” Molly says picking the baby up. I think she liked the sudden movement, because the giggles started again.
“Oh listen to my happy baby. “ She cooed to Monica. “Oh Roger listen to her.”
“I know, I burnt myself and she thought it was funny. Then Grady and Victor stopped by and they got to hear her.” I told her. Then her eyes started to fill with tears.
“Oh baby what’s wrong.” I asked as I put my arm around her.
“I missed it. I missed the first time.” She said sounding so sad.
“Oh baby, we will unfortunately have to miss many first but at least one of us will be here to see them and then we can tell each other about them.” I tell her and she smiled at me.
“Thank you Roger” She said.
“No thank you Molly” I tell her and I kissed the tip of her nose. I was not going to pressure her or trick her into anything. We’ll take it slow and when it’s time we will both know.
“Now you finish cleaning up while I go shower with my daughter. I read one of your baby books and it said that the skin on skin contact is good for the bonding.” I told her as I got up and took my daughter with me.
Yes this is going to be good I’m sure I can make it work………….
