Vihan's POV

I was shocked to see that A man stood near her department, looking oddly out of place in the bustling. His presence irked me instantly, and my annoyance only deepened when I recognized him.

"Garv?? " Roohi called his name.

" What are you doing here?" I asked before Roohi could ask, my tone sharper than I intended. He ignored me and kept looking at her. The audacity.

"I wanted to meet..." he began, but I cut him off.

"This is not a place to casually meet someone. For God’s sake, it’s a hospital. Please leave." My irritation flared. What kind of man thought this was appropriate behavior?

"Vihan, stop it," Roohi said softly, but I barely registered her words.

Garv finally turned to me, his face a mask of indifference. "Excuse me, who are you? How can you tell me to leave? Do you own the hospital?"

Oh, he had no idea.

"Actually, I do!" I shot back, my glare fixed on him. "Ask her. Roohi, do I own this hospital or not?"

She hesitated, looking flustered. "He does... but Vihan—"

"Got it? Now that you know I have the authority to tell you to leave, please do so," I snapped.

Garv smirked, unfazed. "Well, don’t get so worked up, Dr. I-own-it-all. I’m a patient at the moment and came here to meet a doctor. Do you mind leaving now? I hope you have no problem with a patient seeking treatment."

The nerve of this guy. "So, you’re a patient now? May I know what’s wrong with you?"

"I would prefer not to discuss my problem with you," he retorted coolly.

"Suffering from some incurable disease?" I pressed, sarcasm dripping from my tone.

"Vihan!" Roohi’s voice was sharp this time. "Behave yourself!" She glared at me.

Fine. I backed off, but only slightly.

" I apologize on his behalf... Ignore him; he is a bit grumpy at the moment; you, please tell me What happened to you all of a sudden?" She asked him.

Garv turned to her, his demeanor softening." Well, I could not sleep since I met you. My heartbeat keeps increasing  every time..."

" Oh, my god!! He needs a heart specialist... Guess what?? You need me, not her, as a doctor. Come with me, I will diagnose you and will treat you forever, your heart will never beat faster again. And you will sleep soundly at night. " I said telling him to come with me.

" What is his problem?? I came here as I have been thinking of you. So I thought  that I should postpone the date we discussed earlier." He said looking at her.

Date? Never!!

" She is not going anywhere with you."

"Who are you to decide that?" he asked, clearly exasperated. "Are you her dad? Her brother?"

"I’m here... best friend," I replied, though the words felt strange leaving my mouth.

"Then behave like one. Don’t over step the line. I have the permission to take her for dinner, I don’t need yours." He glanced at Roohi. "Now, will you please excuse us, or shall I call her family to get permission to talk to her?"

What the hell?

Vihan, it’s okay. Please go," Roohi said gently.

But I wasn’t going anywhere. "This is a hospital, not a dating spot," I argued. "Tell him to meet you elsewhere. And tell him not to send all that stuff here. If he does, I’ll throw it out."

"What stuff?" Garv asked, genuinely confused.

"Flowers, cards, chocolates. Why did you send them anonymously?" Roohi asked.

"I didn’t send anything," he replied, surprised. "I mean, I wanted to, but I thought I’d wait until after our date. I didn’t send anything."

"Then who sent these?" I asked, my suspicion piqued. "These cheesy lines seem to be yours."

" I didn't send anything. I would have accepted if I had. It is not a crime to send flowers or gifts to any girl if you like her; why would I send something like this without my name on it?" He said.

"Vihan, please leave for a while," Roohi interjected.

"For your kind information, you have an OPD in ten minutes," I reminded her.

"I know that very well. He’ll leave before then," she said firmly.

"Fine," I replied, stepping aside but staying within earshot.

Garv frowned. "Will he stay here? Doesn’t he have anything to do?"

Roohi turned to me, exasperated. "Vihan, what are you doing? And why?"

Good question. The problem was I didn't know why I was doing it.

" This is my hospital, I can stay wherever I want. Tell this man to finish his business and leave. " I said and took his picture secretly. Her family wanted her to meet him, but I wanted some information on him before he went on a date with Roohi.

Garv eventually left after a few more minutes of conversation, during which he flirted with her incessantly. And she? She was smiling, even blushing. The sight unsettled me.

She was so naive. This was her first experience being flirted with, and it showed. She didn’t know how to handle it. But couldn't that idiot tone down a bit??

She is not used to it...I would not let her get carried away because of his flirting.

Once he was gone, and she headed to her OPD, I returned to my department, but my mind wouldn’t stop racing.

Garv.

The gifts.

The anonymous admirer.

And Roohi.

But why were you so worked up about all this? " A voice chided me in my mind.

She is my best friend.

Why are you getting jealous?

This wasn’t jealousy. No!! She is my best friend Nothing more. Yet, the thought of her smiling at another man, blushing because of him, stirred something within me—something I wasn’t ready to name.

Look at you, you are behaving like a jealous boyfriend.

No, it couldn’t be.I was just being protective. That’s all. Right? I shook my head, trying to clear the thoughts. Roohi deserved the best, and I wouldn’t let her settle for anything less.

Then why did her smile for him sting so much? Why did the idea of her going on that date feel like a threat?

Garv might have charmed her family, but I wasn’t convinced. I had to do something before Roohi got carried away by his smooth talk.

The man sending the gifts needed to be identified. I wasn’t about to let some mystery admirer sweep her off her feet.

I had to do something. Even if it meant stepping in more than a best friend should.
