Vihan's POV
Something about those words irritated me. They were overly bold, bordering on presumptuous. My jaw tightened. “Who the hell is sending this nonsense?”
“I don’t know,” she said with a helpless shrug. Roohi looked uncomfortable, which only fueled my resolve to find out who this mystery admirer was and teach him a lesson. She was my best friend, and no one got to make her feel uneasy without answering me.
I turned to the delivery man. “Who sent this?”
He shook his head. “Sorry, sir. It was just handed to me to deliver.”
Roohi waved him off politely, and he left, but the tension in me remained. I glanced at the roses and the gift box again, an unfamiliar heat rising in my chest. Why was I so bothered?
“Throw it all away,” I said abruptly.
She blinked. “What?”
“I said throw it away,” I repeated, my voice firmer this time. “You don’t even know who it’s from. What if it’s some creep trying to stalk you?”
Roohi crossed her arms, clearly unimpressed by my outburst. “Vihan, it’s just flowers and a gift. No one’s stalking me.”
“You don’t know that,” I argued, my voice rising despite myself. “What kind of guy sends anonymous gifts like this? It’s not romantic—it’s weird.”
She shook her head, a small smile tugging at her lips. “Maybe it’s from Garv. You know, the guy my parents are trying to set me up with.”
That name hit me like a punch to the gut. Garv? The guy her parents thought was perfect for her? So what if it’s him? I thought bitterly. My mind started spiraling into scenarios of Roohi smiling at Garv, laughing at his jokes, and accepting his flowers. The idea made my chest tighten.
“Or,” she continued, interrupting my thoughts, “maybe it’s just some admirer. He’ll probably reveal himself in a day or two.”
I scoffed. “You’re keeping it?”
“Yes, Vihan. I’m keeping it,” she said, her tone firm but patient. “It’s harmless.”
“It’s not harmless,” I snapped, running a hand through my hair. “You don’t even know this guy. For all you know, he could be some lunatic!”
“Relax,” she said, her voice calm despite my growing frustration. “You need to chill. It’s just a few gifts, Vihan.”
“Chill?” I echoed incredulously. “You’re telling me to chill when some random guy is trying to win you over like this?”
Her eyes softened as she looked at me. “Why are you so worked up about this?”
The question caught me off guard. Why was I so worked up? I didn’t have an answer. Or rather, I had an answer I didn’t want to admit. Instead, I muttered, “I’m just looking out for you.”
With some unexpected free time on my hands, I asked Roohi if she wanted to tag along for a visit to Mihir’s place.
She smiled, the kind of smile that could disarm any argument. “I know, but I can take care of myself. Now, can we drop this? We’re going to Mihir’s place, remember?”
******
When we arrived at Mihir’s apartment, I knocked on the door and entered without waiting for an answer. Mihir looked up, as soon as we walked in, clearly not thrilled to see us. The guy looked like he hadn’t slept a wink, I couldn’t resist teasing him.
"Hey!" I greeted him with a smirk. "I hope you’re not as grumpy now as you were last night. After all, you’ve had your wedding night!" I added a playful wink for good measure.
Mihir looked up from the couch, his face pale and drawn. Instead of snapping back with his usual wit, he simply said, “Shut up.”
I blinked. “Whoa, calm down. This isn’t how you talk to your best friend. What’s with the mood? Just because you married the love of your life doesn’t mean you forget your friends.”
"Vihan, please leave me alone," he groaned, rubbing his temples.
