Thirteen
"Hey Hoseok," Seokjin calls from the booth he was sitting at for his break, "Isn't it time for your break too?"
"Yeah I was just finishing up this last ticket," Hoseok called as his fingers clicked against the register keys, typing in the details of the ticket for his last table. Once he was done, he placed the ticket into a small black binder with a pen and took it to his table. As soon as he arrived, the family looks up at him with smiles, "How was everything folks?"
"Perfect," The mother hums, looking to see her two sons were coloring on their children's menus.
"Great, are we thinking about having any dessert?"
"No, I think I can speak for all of us when I say we're full and ready for a nap," The father chuckles.
"Fantastic," Hoseok held up the check, "Here's the ticket, absolutely no rush at all."
He sets the binder on the table in the middle, the mother immediately grabs it before the father could and Hoseok took that time to walk away to let them have their privacy. He walks over to the table where Seokjin is, the older offering a glass of soda and a bag of chips from the back for them to snack on. Hoseok grabs the glass of soda, taking a sip before he went back to the table to collect the check he left for his last table.
Eventually, he makes it back to the table to sit with Seokjin. The older chuckles, "You cannot sit still can you?"
"You can't really say anything," Hoseok chuckles, "You've never been able to sit still and you're constantly trying to stay busy now a days!"
"If only you knew," Seokjin sighs sadly.
Hoseok arches his eyebrow, "Everything okay?"
Seokjin shakes his head, "It's nothing-"
"Seokjin, come on. You know if you need to talk to someone you can always talk to me," Hoseok smiles, tilting his head, "I can tell something is bothering you."
Seokjin sighs, "I really don't feel like talking about it right now..."
"Okay, we don't have to. But you know if you ever need to talk you can come to me," Hoseok nods, taking another sip of his soda.
"I know and I appreciate it," Seokjin hums, opening the bag of chips and taking one, "Oh, so Jungkook has an appointment this week for the baby. He's almost eighteen weeks and usually you can tell the gender around that time. If of course the baby won't be stuck in a position where we can't see. Would you and Hyerin like to come?"
"I would love to!" Hoseok beams, "Let me talk to Hyerin tonight when I get home and I will let you know."
"Sounds perfect," Seokjin hums, "The kid has been driving me crazy here lately. Between the hormones and the constant eating, I can't keep up with him! At least the morning sickness is over and done with, and his belly seemed to have popped over night which he isn't too happy about."
"If he is interested, I can take him out to get maternity clothes?"
"He's making due with some sweatpants and Namjoon's t-shirts. But it's kind of embarrassing when we try to go out somewhere and he looks like he's rolled out of bed."
"How about after the appointment I will take him and get him some new clothes. That, and it'll give me a chance to buy some baby items too!"
"That doesn't sound like a bad idea," Seokjin smiles, "Hyerin could also help by picking out cribs, bottles, diapers-"
"Whatever the baby and Jungkook needs, we will get it for them."
"Hoseok! You have a customer waiting for you at table six." A server taps on the table as she walks by with a full tray of dirty dishes.
Hoseok sighs, "Time to get back to work I guess."

Hoseok sighs tiredly as he turned the key to his front door, unlocking it then letting himself inside. As soon as he entered the home, he removes his shoes and jacket at the door then sets his keys in the bowl on the counter. None of the lights were on in the house yet and Hyerin's car wasn't in the driveway when he arrived home.
Hmm, she must be working late at the office tonight, He thought.
Being the incredible husband he is, he opens the fridge to look for ingredients to make dinner. There was no telling what time his wife will be home, he decided to make dinner so she wouldn't have to worry about it or get anything on the way home. With a baby on the way, Hyerin made the comment that they needed to stop eating out so much and ordering take out often. Hoseok knew she was right, and has taken on the role of meal prepping for them to make it easier to start cooking for a family of three instead of ordering out for a family of two.
He found some steaks, onions and peppers, deciding to make steak fajitas for dinner. It was something they haven't had in a while, and he knew his wife loves them. He fell into an easy motion of dicing peppers and onions, all while the steaks were marinating in a delicious and easy marinade.
The meal didn't take long to make at all, and in no time he was plating a little bit of everything he cooked onto two plates for the both of them, plenty of leftovers for him to have tomorrow on his day off and for his wife to take to work. He looks down at his watch, seeing it was a little past eight o'clock in the evening and frowning.
Maybe she's on her way and forgot to call me? He hums, grabbing his phone and dialing her number quickly. His call immediately went to her voicemail, he frowns once more. Usually she would pick up on the first ring, and now she's not answering? Maybe her phone died?
Suddenly, the front door opens and his wife steps into their home with bags in her arms and her briefcase in her hand. Hoseok immediately took the bags out of her arms and set them on the counter, "I was just about to call you again to see where you were," Hoseok replies, kissing her cheek.
She jerks her head away slightly to avoid the feel of her husband's lips on her skin, and Hoseok felt a pang of hurt slice at his heart, "Sorry babe, it was a rough day at the office."
"I'm sorry to hear that..." Hoseok bites his lip, shaking off the rejection of his wife's kiss and gestureing to the table, "I made dinner, let's go eat real quick and then we can put these away together."
"I'll go ahead and put them away real quick," She waves her hand at him to shoo him away from her, "It will only take me a moment."
Hoseok frowns, "Okay... hurry before it gets cold."
He turns his back away from her and enters the dining room, sitting at his place at the table where his food sat waiting for him. He began to eat, the food was cool enough to eat it without burning his tongue or the roof of his mouth. He managed to eat half of his plate before Hyerin finally joins him at the table. She sighs, sitting down in her work attire still before humming, "It smells delicious Hobi, fajitas?"
"Steak fajitas," Hoseok smiles, "I knew we haven't had them in a while so I thought I would make them tonight to surprise you."
Hyerin smiles, a faint blush appeared on her cheekbones as she takes a bite of steak, "That is so sweet of you."
Dinner was quiet as the spouses engage in chewing and scraping of chopsticks against their plates. Hoseok finished first, setting his chopsticks on his plate before looking up to face his wife across the table, "So, Jungkook has a doctor's appointment this week. It's the gender reveal appointment."
"Oh really?" She asked, surprise took over her features, "He's that far along already?"
"Yes, he's almost eighteen weeks along."
"Oh," she takes another bite of food, munching on a bellpepper.
"Seokjin asked if we wanted to go." She hums, once more chewing on her food carefully. Hoseok arches his eyebrow, "I'm going, would you like to go?"
"When is it?"
"I'm not sure, Seokjin mentioned it was this week but I can text and ask him real quick," he grabs his phone to send a text to the older, but Hyerin stops him.
"I'll have to see if I have any important meetings this week. I know I have a few clients coming in and a new one scheduled a meeting with me to hire me as their lawyer," Hyerin nods as she chewed on her food, "Just let me know."
Hoseok frowns, not saying another word as they ate dinner. Something told him his wife wasn't as excited as he was for this appointment. They were having a baby for crying out loud! And they were finding out the gender! It was almost too good to be true!
When Hyerin was finished eating, she took their plates to the kitchen and smiled, "Since you cooked I'll clean, you had a long day babe why don't you go to bed?"
Hoseok nods, giving her a small smile, "Are you sure? You stayed at work later than I did-"
"Yes," she smiles, placing a kiss on his cheek, "Go on. I got this."
Hoseok didn't argue, he left the dining room to go take a quick shower. He half expected Hyerin to join him, but she never did. Even when he was ready for bed he went to check on her to hear her on the phone with a client. He went to bed alone that night.

"Alright, there we have the feet," the ultrasound tech comments as she moved the Doppler wand on Jungkook's belly, smearing the ultrasound jelly around.
"I never knew tiny baby feet could be so cute!" Jungkook comments, all three males had their eyes on the screen as they watch the black and white image of the baby appear on the screen.
Hoseok was a little upset that Hyerin couldn't show up today to see this. Come to think of it, she hasn't been to any ultrasounds except for the first one they went to together after finding out they were adopting Jungkook's baby. She called before they were brought back and told him she had a sudden meeting that she needed to attend so she wasn't able to make it.
Hoseok told her he would bring her home a photo of the baby.
"And there's your baby," the tech smiles, you could see it in her eyes she loved her job.
Hoseok's heart soars as he stared at the image of the small baby moving around. The ultrasound tech flips a switch to where the three males can hear the heartbeat. The loud thumps resonate throughout the room in a steady pace, perfectly strong and perfectly healthy.
"Healthy heartbeat," she hums, snapping a few photos before looking to Jungkook, "Did you want to know the sex?"
"I would like to know but it's not up to me," Jungkook looks to Hoseok, "What do you think Hoseok?"
The ultrasound tech looks over at Hoseok, holding the wand still. Hoseok shakes his head, "No thank you, I think we wanted it to be a surprise."
"Oh come on! I'd like to know!!" Seokjin pouts.
The tech removes the wand with a chuckle, "Very well. The baby looks perfect, and absolutely healthy."
"Awesome," Jungkook smiles, "Now I for sure know it's a baby and not just me being bloated from Taco Bell gas building up."
The ultrasound technician seemed to be in her own world as Jungkook looks to Hoseok, "You sure you don't want to know?"
"Yeah, I think Hyerin wanted it to be kept a secret too," Hoseok hums, grabbing his phone so he could be ready to take a photo of the ultrasound photo the tech printed off.
"Is Hyerin another friend of yours?" The tech asked, smiling at all three of them.
"Oh no," Jungkook assures her, "She's the adopted mother. Hoseok here is the adoptive father, they're the ones adopting the baby when I have it."
"Oh... well that's good to hear," she nods, going back to wiping off the gel from the wand.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Seokjin frowns, tilting his chin up at her as he clenches his jaw.
The tech's smile falls and she opens and closes her mouth. She was at a loss for words as she looked at the three males, before she tilts her chin up as well while looking directly at Seokjin, "I'm just saying, I've seen kids come in here and have a lot of trouble. Most of them are single parents."
"What is your job again?" Seokjin arches his eyebrow.
"Sir, I'm an ultrasound technician-"
"Then stick to what you do best and play Pictionary while people like this gentleman and I," he places a hand on Hoseok's shoulder, "pay you for showing said pictures. My three year old can draw better photos and she's not getting paid, maybe she should since I know she wouldn't run her mouth to people like you do. Do us and every other person that comes in this room and keep your fucking opinions to yourself."
The ultrasound technician closes her mouth and stands, walking quickly towards the door and shuts it behind her after she left. Jungkook whistles, "Wow, way to be a dick Jin."
"Shut up Kook," Seokjin rolls his eyes, taking the photos from the machine and handing one to Hoseok.
Hoseok looks down at the black and white photo, a smile crept on his face.
This... This beautiful photo captured a stunning side profile of his baby. A little hand was even raised as if he was waving. He couldn't wait to show Hyerin when she got home later.
