"Hey, Mo.."

"Hey J...quick question.
You riding with your sorrors
to the Gamma house
or with me and Lana?
Cuz we were trying to
figure out whether
we're gonna pregame
a little before heading over there.."

"Probably neither.
I think ima sit
this homecoming out..."

"What?? You're not going?"

"Yeah...
I don't know girl...
I'm just not feeling it.
I planned to go but
since this shit with
Tae has been weighing on me,
it kind of soured the vibe.
Plus I know his ass
is probably going to be there
and I just don't feel
like dealing with him.."

"Girl FAWK Tae...
you think he's not
gonna go because
yall broke up or
he thinks you'll be there?
Nope...
Men don't stop living
because they're sad..."

"Yeah, I know...I don't know...
I want to go but.."

"I can't tell you what to do but if I were you...Id have this ass all up and through that Gamma house as if Taehyung didn't exist. Looking good and all...look, don't let him keep you from your fun girl. Whether he's there or not. Id go. Fuck him."

"...*sighs* you're right..."

"I usually am...*obnoxious snickering*"

"Shut up.."

"No, but foreal...all seriousness...
If you're up to it, you should go.
You deserve a night of fun.
Hell...maybe find you a
new man to get under to get over..."

"I am not interested in getting up under anything or anybody with
how these men are
obviously out here moving...
I think I just need
a break from THAT..."

"Yeah, I feel you. I feel you...
So.....you think you'll go?"

"I might as well.
I've kinda been
playing around with
outfit ideas anyway..."

"Ooooh what you wearing???"

"Ok, so I have two options.
One is on brand and cute
and the other is a lil...."

"A lil.....??"

"You wanna come over?
I can show you."

"Girl you talking like
I'm across the street or
something...
we share a wall.."

"And knowing
that you still
opted to call
instead of walking
15 feet to talk to me"

"Yeah yeah yeah ... I'M COMING OVA!"

*hangs up*

"Hello?"

"Hey...Yea am I speaking with Iesha?
Anesha...Nichol's?"

"Um...this is Alesha...
May I ask who's speaking?"

"Oh shit...I'm sorry.
There must be a smudge
or something on the rubric.
My fault. This is Jungkook Jeon.
From Dr. Baker's Web Dev class...
I was paired with you
for the semester project thing.."

"Oh! Hey! "

*pots clanging and conversations in the background *

"Um...."

"..*chuckles* Wassup...
I hope I didn't catch
you at bad time. "

"No, you're good.
It sounds more like
you caught you
at a bad time *laughs*"

*more busy background noise...*

"Me? Naw... it's cool...
I'm just at my job right now
and it gets loud.
Hold on, I'm sorry.
Let me step outside.
One second.."

"Sure."

*loudness fades as a heavy door shuts*

" *sighs heavily* ok.
Sorry..let me start over.
Me. Jungkook. Hi..."

"Hi, Jungkook.
Me, Alesha..."

"Yeah! I remember that much.
Sorry if I'm interrupting anything.
I just remembered
to hit you up.."

"No! It's fine.
I emailed you.
I figured you'd just...
you know.
Respond to that...
you didn't have to call.
In case you were busy."

"Naw... it's no big deal.
I had a second here at work.
I figured I'd just call

to the name before
seeing you next class.."

"Oh...ok cool.
Thanks...I will um...
save your number then."

"Bet. Well...I gotta get back but
shoot me a text with a
contact photo too if you can.
Nothing crazy, just so it won't seem like a blind date if we meet up for the project. Before next week.."

"Next week?
You won't be in
class Friday?"

"I won't. Had some stuff
come up but I will
be back on Monday."

"Oh yeah...Dr.Baker
did say you had a
family emergency? I hope
everything's ok."

"Oh yeah,
everything's good.
Just life stuff.
But um...let me know your
project ideas whenever.
If you have any.
I'll combine'em
with mine
and
We can get a
jump on
narrowing it down."

"Ok cool. I'll do that.
And send me a
contact photo too."

"I got you. And I
apologize in advance
if I look rough.  *laughs*"

"I'm sure it's not
that bad *chuckles*"

"I'm just saying. But let me get
back before they
burn the place down.
I'll shoot you a pic
and see you Monday."

"Ok! See you later."

"Aight. Later..."

*ends call*

"Who got you over there giggling like that??Jimin?"Jade turns from her closet, giving Alesha an amused quizzical look with a scrunched nose.

Alesha glances up from her phone ruefully from where she's seated on the edge of Jade's bed.

"No. Nosey..." she deadpans as she returned to her messages and Jade grunts incredulously as she resumed pulling outfit options to show her distracted suitemate.

🥜:
Maybe with a

bralette underneath.
I wanna be cute a
comfortable cuz it
be hot in that
damn Gamma house.
But I wanna look
kinda sexy too.
I don't wanna be plain.

🥜:
You know what I mean?

Yoongi sits over the bench between the lockers in the auxiliary gym locker room. His teammates engage in friendly banter around him as they prepared for practice. He tunes them out though, his attention on each message with a smirk on his face at how enthused Alana seemed at sharing this with him.

It was like a small peak into her overactive mind that he appreciated.

To be frank, he didn't really care what she planned to wear to the party.

Not because it didn't matter.
But also because it didn't matter.

Alana could have worn a potato sack and Yoongi would think she'd pull it off. With her shape and her natural attractiveness, she'd be fire to him either way.

He'd never accuse her of being plain...

If only he could tell her that without actually telling her that...

Boongi😊:
Naw I feel that.

Boongi😊:
I think that would be fly.
You do wanna be
comfortable cuz shit
gets wild at the Gamma's.

🥜:
True. But you don't think
that fits too plain?
I know other ppl are
gonna go all out.
I don't wanna
be underdressed.

Boongi😊:

😈: you so pussy..

Boongi😊:
don't sweat it.

Boongi😊:
But ima get at you later.
Heading out to practice now.

🥜:

Boongi😊:

Jaél's expression crinkles as the splash pad sprinkles water in his face for the third time and Jordan stands by with her hands on her hips, regarding him with amusement.

"Are you serious? I thought you liked water Bean?" she chuckles and he glances up at his mother with a scowl.

"It's in my eyes.." he whines, squinting from the sun that beamed over them.

Other children continue to frolic around in her mother's backyard, their activities varying by age. Jaél was furthest away from the chaos his cousins seemed to find joy in and with one final look back at the offensive water toy, he turns to Jordan and reaches for her.

"Mommy...need a towel," he states, still scowling and Jordan rolls her eyes as she took Jaél by the hand to lead him away from the fun.

Not that she was surprised though. Her son was a lot like her and when his social battery was drained, he made it known.

The two walk hand in hand over the grass towards the house and underneath the shade of the back patio sat her mother, the source of every bit of Jordan's facial features.

"That's a shame.." She smirked at her grandson as he stomped towards her, releasing Jordan's hand and reaching for his beloved Grammy.

Jordan rolls her eyes at the way he was already climbing into her mother's lap and not giving a damn about his wet clothes. She pulls him higher to hug him before lifting her hand to point at the towel already in Jordan's hands.

"Here boy...dry off a little. Why doesn't he wanna keep playing?" she addresses Jordan, who shrugs her shoulders.

"You know him. If it involves things splashing him in the face, he's not into it. Maybe I should turn the water down a lil bit...." she turns her body to look back at the splash pad, now fully occupied by a few other smaller children in her family. Her mother shakes her head in disagreement as she wrapped Jaél in the shark-patterned beach towel.

"Nooo...leave it be. I think the food is ready anyway so I'll tell your brother to start turning off everything. Matter of fact..."

Jordan's mother begins leaning up from her cozy seat with Jaél still wrapped like a burrito in her lap and Jordan put her hand out to stop her.

"I'll get him. Is Auntie in the kitchen?"

"Mmmhmm.." she responds and Jordan nods before rounding the patio to enter the house through the back door.

Jordan loved her mother's house.

The smells.
The decor.
The memories.

This was her comfort space outside of her own apartment and she would never miss an opportunity to visit, even on a weekday after work.

The impromptu cookout wasn't outside of the norm since Jordan's mother loved having her children and grandchildren in one place.

Speaking of...

"Bro you are TRAAAASH!"

"No, I'm not!! You cheating!"

"Naw you just losing!"

Jordan heard her youngest brother and nephew in the living room the moment she opened the door, knowing the two were engulfed in some video game on the 70-inch.

"Junior!" Jordan calls out.

The 18-year-old furrows his brow, resembling their father mostly, but his eyes never leave the screen.

"What?"

"Mama wants you to start cutting off all the water stuff outside. The foods is almost done." Jordan says quickly as she walks past the couches that defined the living area and Junior nods.

"Here I come....pause it. Cmon.." Junior instructs his 11-year-old nephew and the two of them stand just as Jordan turns the corner to enter the kitchen.

The intoxicating scent of fried fish and chicken smacks Jordan in the face as she steps over the threshold. Her mother's best friend and honorary Auntie is forking at the popping grease and glancing over as Jordan enters.

Much different and more casual than she was at the Monarch Butterfly release, Auntie Eve wore a blue and white patterned romper with her hair covered beneath a headwrap.

"Hey baby...you can tell everyone to start coming inside. Everything should be done." Auntie Eve mutters after sparing a quick glance towards the doorway.

Jordan approaches her side, looking over her shoulder to inspect the golden crisp of the chicken wings she was taking out of the grease. They're set on a massive paper towel-lined baking sheet and Jordan takes this as her opportunity to steal one.

"Aight...burn your mouth off." Aunt Eve warns and Jordan chuckles as she handles the piping hot wing delicately.

"I'm immune to getting burnt by food. Mama sent me in here to get Junior and Cam to round everyone up. They'll be inside in a second. You need any help?" she says as she lifts the chicken to give it a few cautionary blows before taking a bite.

"No, I got it. Your mama started everything off so I'm just gonna plate it all. Unless you wanna start putting the sides and stuff on the table." Auntie Eve nods towards the array of dishes on the counter beside.

Baked mac and cheese.
Green beans.
Cornbread.
Assorted sliders on Hawaiian rolls for the kids as well as beverages.

Jordan shakes her head at the amount of food her mother prepared for just the small group of family she invited over at the last minute.

"She went all out didn't she..." Jordan mutters and Auntie Eve chuckles in agreement.

"Well, apparently you're the only one she can get to visit unless food is involved. You and Junior.."

At the mention of her brother, Jordan snorts.

"Junior lives here."

"Exactly." Auntie Eve adds, shaking her head.

She looks over just as the temperature of the straight out the grease chicken hits Jordan's mouth and she smirks at the way Jordan tries to cool it as she chews.

"See.." Auntie Eve grunts humorously and Jordan pays her no mind. She walks past her towards the counter where she left her phone to charge. With only her pinky, she taps the screen and leans over the counter to read the missed notifications.

1 missed call 6 minutes ago.

Namjoon

Almost dropping her chicken wing, Jordan squeals and quickly reaches for her phone, tugging the charger from its port. Auntie Eve is switching off the stove and turning the handle of the cast iron skillet in towards the dials when she notices Jordan's sudden movement.

"Girl what are you..." she begins just as Jordan forced the remaining bits of chicken in her mouth to be swallowed down before putting her phone to her ear.

"You alright?" Aunti Eve perks her brow as Jordan spares her a look up and nod.

"Uh huh.....Hey! Sorry, I missed your call..." she says following the smooth tone of Namjoon's voice.

Having just left practice, it hadn't been long since he attempted to contact her. He was in the campus gym parking lot, walking stiffly with his gym bag hanging from his shoulder when she called.

"Don't be sorry. It's all good.
What you up to?"

"At my mom's house.
About to eat dinner.."

"Oooh what
yall cook?"

"Nothing you'd
need to be eating
after exercising."

"Please...
if there's meat
then there's protein.
If there's protein,
I need all of that."

"Yeah well there's
definitely meat."

"Well I'm definitely
offended that i
wasn't invited."

"I could make you a
plate and bring it to you.
Since you're over there
about to cry.."

"You would do
that foreal?"

"I mean...I could.
But I'm sure you wouldn't
want to wait for it.
I don't think we're leaving
for another hour or so.
You'll probably eat
something else
and be in bed
by that time."

"Id wait up for a
home-cooked meal.
Stop playing..."

Jordan smiles at the way his voice deepened towards the end of his statement, hearing him groan softly as he entered his vehicle.

The jingle of his keys fills the line for a moment.

"Anyway...I called to see
how your day was.
Not scold you for not
inviting me to
your mama house."

"Oh no, you wouldn't want
to be subjected to this.
Too many kids.
Jaél alone had you out of
breath at the park the other day.
I don't think you'd survive this."

As she mindlessly moved around the kitchen, Auntie Eve eavesdrops shamelessly the more she notices Jordan's tone go from normal to that special tone women use with men they like.

She knew that tone all too well.

Not to mention the fact that Jordan was visibly and distractedly smitten, smiling and messing with the electronic can opener as they talked.

"Well...maybe one day
I'll get to find out for myself."

Jordan's smile falters as the blush beneath her skin deepens.

"Maybe you will.
Stick around.."

Namjoon sucks in his bottom lip and leans his head back on his headrest, his phone still held to his ear as he smirked. After a beat, Namjoon's gaze idles on the ceiling of his car.

"This may sound kind
of random but...
do you like to paint?"

"Um...yeah. I mean I don't
dislike painting but
I can't say something
I get the chance to do very often."

"Why?"

Namjoon hesitates at first, now both of his lips tucked in with apprehension.

"Well...ok. And listen...
I know you said
you weren't into dating right
now so I don't want you
to think I'm asking you
out on one right now but.."

"I'm listening..."

"So there's this small club downtown I go to every now and then. Super small place... it's more of a cafe than a club but they host cool events and different stuff on the weekends
and I saw that this Saturday that they were hosting a thing called Painting with a Twist?
Ever heard of that?"

"Yeah, I've heard of those.."

"Really? Well I hadn't until
I looked it up.
There's gonna be a
local artist there
that'll teach us how to
paint and there's gonna be
live musical guest
and drinks..so you know.
Something different .."

"Wow..that sounds
hella fun."

"It does. I was kind
of interested in
going but I noticed
on the site that
it's set up as a thing
you bring someone
with you to do.
They're only selling
the canvases
and seats in pairs.
Figured I'd look kinda
dumb sitting there
with two canvases and
an empty seat if...
I guess I'm saying,
if you're interested...
I think it would be
something cool to do.."

"...with you.
If you're free. "

"Not as a date though.."

Jordan bites her lip and her expression droops in conflict. Knowing he only made that distinction because of previous conversations the two of them had, she still couldn't ignore the small pang of disappointment.

But she's also flattered and appreciative of him respecting her boundaries.

"Not a date?"

"Nope.
Not a date.
Just two friends
painting and twisting.."

The way he says that makes her smile brightly and she glances down at the floor bashfully.

"This Saturday you said?" She asks and Namjoon confirms.

"Yep. And no pressure...
if you wanna think about it or
if you have to work......
or if you wanna say no..."

"No, I'm not saying
I don't want to.
It's just that this Saturday I'm..."

Before she could finish her sentence, Auntie Eve slapped the side of her thigh.

"Ow!" she yelps in Namjoons ear, making him flinch and pull his phone away to look at the screen with concern. Jordan turns to find her Aunt scolding her silently, mouthing the word "mute" and pointing at her phone.

"You alright over there?" he chuckles nervously and Jordan frowns at her Aunt's adamant expression before addressing the man on the other side of the phone.

"Yeah. I'm good. Hey, can you hold on for just a sec? Literally 60 seconds...I'll be right back."

"Cool, I'll be here."

"Thank you.."

As soon as she presses mute, she turns to Auntie Eve with wounded and confused eyes.

"Why'd you hit me?" Jordan pouts and Auntie Eve rolls her eyes and bats a dismissive hand at Jordan's expression before pointing at her phone again.

"You alright..Can he hear me?" she asks and Jordan shakes her head.

"Good. Now, why are you over there acting like you don't wanna go out with that man? Is he ugly?" she tilts her head curiously.

"No...the exact opposite actually...he's fine. Like really fine. And tall..." Jordan's gaze trails off as she recalled Namjoon's daunting stature. Auntie Eve pouts at the way Jordan was lost in a fleeting thought.

"Hmm...well..is he broke?" she then asks.

Jordan shrugs one side of her mouth and shakes her head.

"I don't think so...he plays basketball for Bayfield so he's for sure on a scholarship but has a job and his own place.."

"Mmmhmm...He got a girlfriend?"

"He said he doesn't.." Jordan shrugs and Auntie Eve slaps her thigh again.

"Ow! What the.."

" Shut up...why are acting like you aren't available Saturday? What you got to do?" she dismisses Jordan again, whose paused lips remain parted as she considered her question.

"Because! I just met him...and yea he's nice and sweet and handsome..."

"I believe the words you used were fine and tall but go on..." Auntie Eve interrupts.

"I'm not ready ok? Plus , Me and Jaél were coming to your house remember? I was gonna wash your hair and..." Jordan begins and Auntie Eve rolls her eyes.

"Girl I can wash my own damn hair. You need a break. Me and your mama been meaning to tell you this...."

"Auntie.."

"Aht...shut up. Jordan. Sweetheart....you work too hard. You're full-time at the pharmacy. Part-time in college. Full-time in motherhood....you're only in your early 20's. You're supposed to be out on some ungodly stuff so you can learn and grow and discover yourself. Do you know what I was doing in my 20's?"

Jordan hesitates before responding, giving Auntie Eve a quick once over and cringing.

"Do I wanna know?" she grimaces and Auntie Eve smirks.

"No! You don't.. that's the point. I've heard you duck and dodge opportunities for you to be just a young woman in her 20s. Not a tech or a student or somebodies mama. Take some time for yourself Jordan...bring Jaél to me on Saturday and go out with that boy."

Auntie Eve steps away casually to open the fridge nearby as if she hadn't just offered a single mother the most important thing when considering going out.

"Really? You'd watch him?"

"Don't act so surprised as if I haven't watched him before...And don't think you can't ask me for help when you just need some time to yourself Jordan. You deserve it. I'm old and I don't do anything on the weekends anyway. Jaél can keep me busy..." she mutters distractedly as she pulled a wine cooler from the depths of Jordan's mother's fridge.

Before she twisted the cap, she uses the bottle to point toward the phone still in Jordan's hand.

"Go ahead and tell Mr.Tall and Fine that you're free. I'm bout to set this table..." she remarks, turning away to tilt the glass bottle up against her lips.

For a moment Jordan watches her go, filled with appreciation and hope as she unmuted herself.

"Hey! Sorry about that..you still there?"

The sounds of Namjoon driving could be heard from his blinker clicking occasionally. He now has his phone connected to the Bluetooth in the car as he coasted through traffic. He smiles at the sound of her voice before glancing out his window.

"You're good. I'm here.
Everything ok?"

"Yeah...I um..."

Jordan pauses to look up and find Auntie Eve staring at her expectantly from the dining room before continuing.

She points at the phone with threatening eyes and Jordan's mouths "OK" at her before sighing. Namjoon remains silent on the other side, ignoring the way his heart raced anxiously in anticipation.

"I...actually had to check and confirm something. And turns out I am free this Saturday night." She finally responds, swatting at Auntie Eve dancing around teasingly from across the room.

"You are? I don't want you to feel like you gotta say yes.... I did kinda put you on the spot..." Namjoon trails off and Jordan shakes her head in denial at the phone.

"You did but it's fine. I would like to attend the event with you. I can't have you up there looking all lonely..."

If only Jordan could see the smile on Namjoon's face.

"Right. Exactly
what I was thinking."

"Mmmhmmm. Right..."

Both of them smiled as a beat of comfy silence settled over the line and Namjoon's tongue darted over his lips when his cheeks started to ache from smiling.

"Well cool...I'll buy the tickets now
and reserve our seats as
soon I get home.
Ima text you the
address too so you
can see what place
I'm talking about."

"Ok thank you...."Jordan pauses when the sounds of her loud and rambunctious son, nieces, and nephews could be heard entering the house. Her son especially. They run through the kitchen and Jael dashes towards her to hug her thighs as if he hadn't seen her in 10 years.

"Mommy! There you arreeeee" Jaél exclaims, loud and clear enough for Namjoon to hear in his car. He laughs at the way Jordan huffs and fusses at her son hugging her so tight that she can't walk.

"Uh oh..." Namjoon chuckles and Jordan gently pulls Jael's arms from her legs.

"Aaand just like that, the silence is dead. We're about to sit down and eat so is it ok if I text or call you later on today?" she asks, stooping down to pick up her son.

"It's all good...
Go eat...
hit me up whenever.
See you Saturday. "

"Ok....." she smiles at the reminder of their (not) date and feels like a fool for being so anxious already.

But despite what he said, this would be the first time she'd be somewhere in public without Jaél to chaperone.

And in a very adult setting at that.

Totally not a date though.

Totally.

"See you Saturday."

*call ended*
