the one where the rain brings unwanted change

It rained for quite a while after that, she remembered.

The rain, she thought, was how she felt.

This wasn't the pleasant rain in which you'd cuddle up, nice and warm with a book or a video.

This was the cold, hard rain.

The kind that left you barren of any feeling at all, really.

The kind that was driven, and soaked your pantlegs and shoes.

The kind that pushed the cold through your jacket and into your skin.

She missed him.

It wasn't like it could have been anything else.

Intact, she felt a bit foolish, missing George already.

He'd been gone for a day.

But, a day in which he hadn't spoken to her.

She felt it.

That very morning, she felt it.

Along with the distant effects of the monsoon, she felt the change happening around her.

It was a change that was unwelcome, in her mind.

She stared out her window, face slightly sore as she watched the rain.

She thought about George leaving.

She thought about how his lips touched hers.

And how she didn't know if or when they'd touch again.

Already she was thinking of saving the money to visit him.

She felt crazy, but she loved him and as far as she knew, he loved her.

She closed her eyes tightly, then rolled over, relaxing under the warmth of her blanket, pretending in her mind that it was actually George's arms that gave her such comfort.

She thought about the good times that she's had with George, and tried very hard to keep in mind that Christmas wasn't that far away, and that he'd visit for that.

A small smile placed itself upon her lips.

Her phone vibrated.

Joji x ; I landed safely. I already miss you. Thank you for supporting me.

Joji stared at his screen as he bit his lip, holding his luggage in his other hand.

He slowly turned off the screen, placing the device in his pocket before fixing his pink hat, and stepping out into the very different air of another country.

She was asleep.
