the one where he leaves
The weeks had passed faster than the two could comprehend.
It wasn't fair.
More than anything in the world, the pair thought that it wasn't fair.
Emi would never beg him to stay.
She knew how hard he worked to get into that college, she knew that it was just as hard for him to leave as it was for her to see him leave.
She put on everything George had ever given her.
She put on a tank top that he had owned, but grew out of, she put on the purple sweater, she put on her jeans and converse, and slipped the ring on her pinky finger.
She grabbed her pink hat finally putting it on backwards, of course. and stepped out of her room with heavy, yet quiet footsteps.
She made her way quietly to the kitchen.
Her mother was standing in silence, a cup of steaming coffee close to her lips as she leant back against the counter, and stared at nothing in particular.
She looked up at her daughter and looked over her so very George-infused outfit.
"今日は大きな一日です" ( Today is the big day. ) she said softly.
Emi nodded.
Her mother sighed and set down her cup of coffee, opening her arms to her daughter.
Emi walked forward and hugged her mother, letting her head rest against her chest as she wrapped her arms around her.
Her mother hugged her protectively.
Emi felt a sense of comfort in her mothers arms.
Though this comfort couldn't take away her pain completely, she still loved her mother for being there for her.
"あなたは朝食をしたいですか?" ( Do you want breakfast? ) her mother asked, rubbing her daughters back comfortingly.
Emi shook her head, a gloomy aura sticking around her body.
"ジョージのお母さんに私達がやって来るかどうか聞いてほしいですか?" ( Do you want me to call George's mother to see if we can come over ? ) her mother offered instead, knowing how much her daughter was aching to spend every last moment with George.
Emi nodded, letting out a slight sigh as she stepped away from her mother, allowing her to walk to her telephone, take it off the line, dialing George's mothers number that she knew by heart with how often she talked to the woman.
Emi hugged herself as she waited for her mother to finish her conversation in heavy Japanese.
Her mother grew quiet as she talked to the woman.
Emi hadn't seen Joji in the past few days because he was spending time with his other friends.
Of course George had friends other than Emi.
George actually had quite a large friend group, just as Emi had friends other than George.
Although, unlike Emi, George had different levels of friends.
He had the group of people, which was the general populous that he knew, he had his small group of friends that he actually hung out with and talked to, and then he had Emi, who was his closest, most important friend in the world to him.
The Amari mother was done on the phone soon enough, informing Emi that they could go over in that instant.
They'd all be together, and they'd all walk George into the airport.
~~~
Emi wrung her sleeves as they stood at the front door.
It took almost no time for George's mother to open the door, smiling sadly at Emi and her mother.
Emi looked at George's mother, and couldn't even really muster a smile.
She just sprung forward and hugged the woman.
George's mother looked at Emi's.
They had a mutual understanding of Emi's feelings.
"He's just in the living room." Her mother whispered to Emi.
Emi nodded, slipping off into the living room.
She was grateful that the Miller Mother wasn't particular about taking your shoes off at the door.
At least not right now, anyways.
She assumed that she let it slip because she didn't want to waste any time.
Emi saw George sitting on the couch, his two luggage cases sitting right by him.
He looked up at Emi and he smiled at her.
She smiled back and he stood up.
The pair met each other half way, and hugged in the middle of the room as the mothers watched with crossed arms and smiles on their faces.
"こんにちは、Emi。" ( Hello, Emi. ) he whispered to her softly.
"Hey." she replied.
They held each other in their arms, but backed up their faces so that they could look at one another.
"永遠にあなたを抱きしめたい、永遠にあなたを見たいかどうかはわかりません。" ( I don't know whether I want to hold you forever or look at you forever. ) Emi chuckled sadly.
George stared at her for a few moments with an indistinguishable look in his eyes.
"私も決めることはできません。" ( I cant decide either. ) He chuckled sadly, turning a strand of her hair over in his fingers.
"なぜあなたは2つのダンスをしないのですか?" ( Why don't you two dance? ) the Miller mother called out, smiling and nudging Emi's mother as they both chuckled.
"Mom!" Emi groaned, placing her face against George's chest, hugging him tightly.
The two mothers chuckled once again and announced that they were going to make tea for everyone.
The TV was on and Joji moved to the couch to sit down once more.
He gestured for Emi to come over to him.
She walked over but when she was about to sit next to him, he grabbed her wrist gently, patting his lap.
She sat down in his lap, her back pressing against his chest and he wrapped his arms around her stomach, pulling her a little closer against him.
She sighed, running her fingers along his arms and hands.
She hugged his arms and relaxed against him, watching one of their favorite shows on the television as the mothers made tea in the kitchen.
"I don't wanna die... I don't wanna die...Baby I've tried... To be... Something so easy... To me... I can't believe we... Could be... Stop being so easy... To me..." Joji sang softly, running his thumb gently up and down her side.
His other hand was tapping a beat on her other side.
She listened to his soft voice with intent ears.
"Baby I might... If we... Don't have the time to... Be free..." His grip tightened on her. "I'm right beside you..." He got close to her ear. "Do we... Just need to find you... In me..."
She shivered lightly.
"That was beautiful." She told him.
"Thanks, its a new one." He said, hiding his face into the secrecy of her neck.
Soon the mother's brought out the tea, silently speaking over their cute offspring.
~~~
The time had flown by, and now the teens and their mothers were walking through the airport.
Emi thought about the seemingly short car ride, where she and George held hands.
Joji had checked in his luggage, leaving only his small carry on bag in his hands.
The Amari mother hugged George goodbye first.
She kissed his cheek, wishing him luck.
George's mother was second. She began crying as she hugged George.
She mumbled to him many heavy thing about how much she loved him and loved raising him. How she was so proud of him. How he was going to do great in the world.
Emi felt tears prick her eyes as her turn to say goodbye came.
Her and George stared at each other for a few seconds.
As they looked into one another's eyes, it happened.
George broke.
He bit his lip as his eyes began to water.
They launched into one another's arms as George began to let out breathy sobs into Emi's neck.
She let her tears slip with more silence.
George was not a crier... Yet here he was.
Sobbing into Emi's neck.
And in that moment, his flight was announced as boarding.
"N-No..." Emi's eyes went wide and both the teens shook, realizing that their time had come to an end.
"Fuck," George muttered, immediately grabbing Emi's face and connecting his lips to hers.
Emi was surprised but instantly settled into it and kissed him with tears running down her cheeks.
"あなたは、Emi を愛して.ファック、私はクソ以前言ってなかった申し訳ありませんが。" ( I love you, Emi... Fuck... I'm so fucking sorry that I didn't tell you earlier. ) he pulled away and mumbled, his fave close to hers, his hands on her cheeks and her small hands wrapped around his wrists.
She couldn't believe the confession had finally been made.
She'd be angry at his timing if it weren't for how happy the statement made her.
"あなたは、あまりにも、ジョージが大好きです。" ( I love you, too, George. ) She told him.
He laughed as a tear fell down his cheek.
The mother's cheered.
The flight announcement happened again, and George kissed her once more.
It was passionate, everything she'd ever expected and more.
When he parted from her several seconds later, he engulfed her in a hug, backed up, looked in her eyes and said, "See you later."
And with that, and a final wave to the mother's... He was gone.
Emi was frozen.
'I love you.'
She still felt his lips on hers.
'I love you.'
