Faith
"We have to keep him." As these words left Mason's mouth, I became overjoyed. He wanted this kid.
"Faith..." he continued, "I think we should give us a chance."
I mentally squealed. I could just picture our little family: just Mason, me, our baby... and Gabe.
I've been thinking about it for a while. Gabe was content living with family members, but I wanted something permanent for him. I loved him. I couldn't finish his custody case but if we were to build a new case, Mason and I could take care of him.
"Let's get married." Mason finished.
"Right away?" I asked, "I mean when you said let's give us a chance I thought we'd take it slow."
"When have we taken anything slow, Faith?"
"Despite everything, do you... love me?" I asked, hesitant.
"I... I don't know what it is I feel towards you, but... but it's strong."
"If... if we get married, I have one condition."
"Yes?"
"You'll allow me to build a case to take Gabe's custody. Me and you. Our baby and him. Our family."
"Faith," Mason's voice cracked, "You're beautiful."
We embraced as he stroked my stomach. We were interrupted by the doorbell.
"Mason Hamond! Where is my sister?!" we heard a voice yell.
Mason and I headed to the entrance.
I looked at the man in front of us in utter shock. It was Dylan.
"Faith?"
"Dylan?"
"What are you doing here?" he asked.
"I... I live here. Mason's my fiancee." I explained.
"How do you two know each other?" Mason asked.
"We met at a party," Dylan explained
"You were there," I reminded Mason.
"I can't believe you... you lead me on, Faith."
"What are you talking about? I met with you only as friends."
"Whatever, man. What do I expect from Mason's fiancee anyway? Where is my sister?!"
"How would I know?"
"I swear to God, if you're lying."
"I said I don't know where she is. Why the fuck would I lie?"
Ding! We heard a text message.
Mason took out his phone and read the message, "Your goddamn sister just opened a new case against us for Gabe's custody."
"Where has she been for 2 days?"
"She must have been preparing the case," I replied, butting into the convo.
"Dylan, realize that your sister is not a good person. She only wants Gabe to get his shares in the company. Don't you see it?"
Dylan looked at us. He was fuming with anger. He left without a word.
"You were seeing this guy? God, Faith. Just when I try to trust you." Mason groaned.
"What are you talking about? We met once. And me and you weren't even a thing. What were you expecting? It's like you want me to be perfect. It's like... it's like you look for reasons to not trust me. It's your choice, Mason. I'm keeping this baby and I'll fight for Gabe whether you're in my life or not." I walked back into our room.
This time, I was fuming. He was just finding excuses. When was he going to man up and take some responsibility? If he doesn't love me, he should just tell me so. I was getting even more aggravated.
Mason walked into the room and looked at me from the doorway, "I can't stand the thought of you with someone else because... because I think I love you. I've always loved you, Joy. Faith Joy Lange, I love you."
"Are you sure?"
"It's hard for me, but I know I love you now. You will be the woman I marry. The mother of my kids. If not now, then later. Fate brought us together. It can't separate us."
"I love you, too," I confessed.
