Once Upon a Time, there lived a dragon and his name was Midnight. He lived in a cave with ancient writing on it. Nobody knew what he looked like. All they could see was his snarling smile of sharp teeth with a long pink forked tongue sticking out smelling the air. He slept during the day so no one ever saw his eyes but on the off chance that you did see his big bloodshot eyes, they looked like they could see right into your soul. He ate a steady diet of wild animals and, every now and then, the unlucky person that plundered around at night. Made up of pure strength, he was a giant reaching the length of fifteen feet and height of eight feet.
One night a farmer heard about where Midnight lived and decided to check it out. The person that told him was a selfish Lord named George. George wanted the land the farmer-owned and only told him where Midnight was in hopes that the dragon would eat the farmer. So as the farmer went to the cave, he was very disappointed to find that it was empty. As he was walking back to his farm, something flew over him. Just as he was about to look up, Midnight ate him.
When George found out about this he was overjoyed. "Now I can have that farmer's land," he thought to himself. The next morning, he rode his horse to the farmer's land only to find it burned to the ground. "Well now the farmer got eaten for nothing," he yelled out in anger.
Then he went and told the farmer on the other side of his land about the dragon but this second farmer was not persuaded that easily and did not want to go. He was not dumb. He had heard about the last farmer that had gotten eaten. George told him, "That's because he went out at the wrong time. Go out a little bit later and all will be fine."
"What is in it for me to see the dragon? Nothing good ever happens when people go to see him," the farmer asked George.
"That is a very fine question and here is the best answer in the world. Did you not hear about all the gold inside the dragon's cave? He loves shiny thing just like all other creatures do," George replied back to him.
"No, I didn't know that. That's very interesting George, I will see you later." As he was walking away George followed him. Turns out he went to the cave were Midnight lived. Lord George hid in the bushes near the cave to hear and see what was happening. The farmer went up to Midnight and said, "Midnight, come out I have something to tell you."
"I'm here, what can I do for you?" Midnight asked the farmer.
"Midnight, I know your secret. I promise not to tell anyone if you give me something in return."
"You know my secret, well I do have something to give you. You might not like it but I know for sure I will."
After Midnight had said this George saw the giant black dragon come out of his cave. Midnight stepped around the farmer so he was blocking George's view. First, he heard a scream and after that silence.
"Good. Now that that second farmer is gone I can have his land," George thought to himself.
The next morning George looked out the window at his new piece of land only to see that everything had been burnt to the ground. "No, not again! Now how am I going to expand my land," he thought to himself.
There was a farmer that lived behind him and she had almost 200 acres of land. All he had to do was trick her. Tricking a girl would be so much easier than the last two farmers. For the past three days, he went over to her house and brought her gifts because he was trying to bribe her into giving into his trickery and get her into giving him her land.
On the fourth day, he brought her a gold bracelet with blue jewels inside the loops. She said to him, "This is very beautiful. Thank you so much. Because of all these gifts you gave me, I must give you something in return."
"How about your land?" George said to her.
"Oh no, I would never give up my land. My parents died for this land. Anything else you name it within reason it is yours," she replied.
"Would you mind going into the dragon's cave and bringing me one of his teeth. Dragons lose teeth too, you know," George said to her.
"I would be glad to. It's not like the dragon will eat me," she said back.
"That's what you think," George said quietly to himself.
