70. Why
Taehyung looked at his friends with confusion on his face, uncertain whether he's supposed to be sad or relieved at this revelation.
"What do you guys mean?"
"Somebody else took the fall," Jimin answered Taehyung's question.
"Who.... who?"
"It was Jung-kook," came the reply.
"Wh.... why?" Taehyung stammered. So it was him: those nights, those hands, those hips grinding against his back.
Jimin shook his head. "We don't know."
"Wh... where is he?"
"The last time we checked, he was fielding questions from reporters."
Taehyung removed the blanket from his legs and stood up. "I want to see him."
"No, you can't," Namjoon commanded. "Don't cause any more trouble."
"But...."
"Listen to him, Tae," Jimin said. "You will make it worse for Jung-kook."
"I wish I could remember what happened," Taehyung whispered. "Can you please tell me?"
Jimin briefly glanced at Namjoon, who nodded his head at his silent query.
"Well, as soon as you fell to the floor, Jung-kook rushed to the stage, grabbed a microphone, and told the audience that the person on the audio recording was of him and a male friend who tried to sound just like you. We also heard him say that it was a prank to get your attention. He told everyone he felt remorseful that the stunt was in poor taste and could have hurt you who had nothing to do with it."
"I see," Taehyung responded with a sadness in his voice. Why? Why would Jung-kook do that? Why would he take it upon himself to cover for both of their mistakes? Taehyung had always pegged Jung-kook as a selfish and perverted sex-maniac who only seemed to enjoy wielding power over his prey. So why save a person whom he refused to meet again?
So many questions left unanswered that Taehyung just had to ask the man himself.
