6. Bang

"Hey! Taehyung!"

The popstar slowly turned around and looked at someone yelling and waving across the lobby.

"Me?"

The man laughed as he ran towards the bewildered Taehyung, who recognized the person as part of the management team.

"Yes, who else? Are you okay, buddy?"

Taehyung shook his head. "Sorry, I'm just about to leave."

"No, you can't. The boss wants to see you," the assistant said.

"Right now?" Taehyung hoped that whatever the CEO needed to speak to him about could wait another day.

The man nodded. "I was actually about to get you from your dorm, but since you're here...."

"I understand," Taehyung muttered. This better be some urgent news or else he's just wasting his time. He wanted to go back to sleep.

The walk to Bang PD's office seemed long. Taehyung's been there many times, mostly with some or all the members, but hardly by himself. It's not like he's afraid of the boss, but he's nervous though he knew he had no reason to be.

He barely knocked on the door when it flew open.

"Oh, there you are. I wondered if you got lost." The robust man said, a pair of round-rimmed spectacles perched on his face.

"Hi, PD-nim. You wanted to see me?"

"Yes, yes, come in and sit. I've already ordered your Gongcha." Bang Si-hyuk closed the door to his grand office and sat across Taehyung, who was devouring the grapefruit green tea to cover up his anxiety.

"Hitman" Bang, as he's often called, was surprised that even after years of working together, that there would be occasions they still feared him. He thought by now, that the boys would be comfortable around him and treat him like their Hyung, a much older brother, rather than the "Father of BTS" as many purported him to be.

Si-hyuk came from humble beginnings and started his career as a composer and a lyricist. When his college friend opened a production company, he jumped at the chance to be part of it. He quickly became a renowned producer but despite his accomplishments, Bang PD felt that he was destined for greater things. He set up his own business shortly after leaving JYP Entertainment in 2005. It was a long, painful road to success, but he knew that churning out entertainers as if they were manufactured by a factory, wasn't his style. He opted for artistic expression versus repression, shunning easy profit in favour of longevity in the music industry.

Bang's relaxed management approach didn't sit well with many. He's sometimes accused of being too soft that he had to laugh. He never heard of a "soft bang." But it was because of his philosophy, that BTS flourished. Rather than being trapped like birds in cages, the boys were allowed to fly, and fly they did.
