Chapter 22
Edge of Ambiguity
️
Ilsan, South Korea
The new investigating officer, Myung Dae, was finally done with his last meeting for today. The scene with Mafia was being a nuisance again. The governor who was appointed for major ghetto regions, was brutally killed in his manor and to worsen it, the agents who were assigned in order to investigate the roots of the case, had mysteriously gone missing.
"Ugh! This shit's exhausting. Why am I doing this again?" He asked himself as he totaled the files inside the cupboard.
Myung Dae was not made for this role and he knew it, since the start. He was just a mere assistant to the previous Investigating Officer, the work maniac Jeha Seok, who went into seclusion, four years ago. Rumours say that Jeha Seok used to secretly favour a mafia executive a lot, who in an unknown incident, was burnt to death by his own boss in his manor. There were no tough evidence regarding the matter but after Jeha Seok slowly lost his mind and soon went into depression, it became obvious that there was some truth in those rumours rifing around.
To avoid the reputation tainting his department and his mental state, Jeha Seok resigned from his post and assigned his acquaintance, a thirty five year old Kang Myung Dae to lead. MD had been saved twice by the officer and agreed anyways as in form of returning favour. However, after just one month of him resigning, Jeha Seok went into complete seclusion. No one knows where he is anymore, some even consider him death.
"I just hope you are still alive buddy. We still didn't had our last cup of tea."
Myung Dae said as he saw a picture of their whole squad framed on his desk- in which he stood near Jeha Seok who was pictured in a whole hearted laugh. He still remembers how, on the day of their last meeting, Jeha seok told him that he liked the tea that he makes in his own style and that it actually calmed him down, helping him to relax. He did say something regarding sharing another cup together some other time but unfortunately, it never happened.
"Senior! Senior!"
Suddenly, the door of his cabin was barged in by a subordinate reporting him. He looks confused with sweat all over his face- no doubt he ran here like flash or something.
"What is it now?" Myung Dae asked, exhausted. No other meetings, please!
"Senior. We received a call from an unknown number. The caller didn't say his name or anything but- he sounded sick. Whoever they were, he told me to inform you that, He won't mind a cup of tea this evening."
Meng Ziyi sulked again when the pictures didn't come out as she wanted. The girls were already posing for another take but here she was annoyed by that stupid picture quality.
"I am seriously going to burn this brat if I get my hands on him!" Ziyi stated in a threatening tone clearly exhausted of Yubin's antics.
"What did our cute little boy do now?" Xiao Lu asked, completely understanding who the other was referring to. "See? This boy I swear! He drained by phone's battery and now the brightness just keeps on falling low. Because of that, the pictures look stupid. Zhan was so right to scold him! He should actually throw that brother of mine from a cliff or something."
Meng Ziyi's obvious slander towards Yubin made the girls giggle. Their dynamics of siblings was a typical masterpiece! Especially considering Yubin's goofy ass personality and blunt mouth, one can never have a dull moment around him.
Lulu sniffled a laugh, caressing her back.
“Aw- it's okay. He is still young and thriving. Let him have his days.”
Ziyi rolled her eyes at that. "I really don't want to hear that from you who has literally got golden retrievers as her brothers! Xiao Zhan? A diamond in the coal! And even though Zhoucheng's temper is off track and rebellious, he is marvelous on his job of being the best brother out there. Huh! How does it feel to be god's favourite?”
The girls tend to agree to which Lulu just waved them off. "Well, thank you to my mother I guess." She shrugs, completely aware of the fact that Meng Ziyi was right.
“Okay enough of this ladies, it's time for the occasion.”
One of the employees, a certain senior one, said as her eyes fell on the clock. It was already the time for Xiao Lu to be down for the ceremony. She got up, the girls rechecking her attire once again giving up a thumbs up before they slowly exited the room. Lulu almost reached the staircase until she halted.
“Ziyi!” She called, who looked at her in question.
"Is something wrong Lulu? Do you feel uncomfortable in any way?!" Meng Ziyi asked, concerned though- Xiao Lu immediately denied it and signed her to get closer. Ziyi obliged, leaning in for the other to whisper what she wanted.
"Call A-zhan. I want him to accompany me. I asked A-cheng- he won't do it, calling it too cheesy but- Zhan definitely would love to join."
Meng Ziyi slightly huffed at that, shaking her head. Why did her mom not birth some specimens similar to the Xiao siblings?! What sins did she unintentionally perform to deserve a demonic brat as her brother?
Nevertheless, She assured Lulu over her request asking her to wait as she brought Xiao Zhan over. With the cue to leave, Ziyi went back to the room where they left the sulking boy. The doors were shut. Turns out our plan didn't work. She thought, disappointed. And here Lulu thought that maybe Zhan would follow his heart if given some alone time. But it looks like, he tends to avoid the situation.
He is so obvious sometimes.
Meng Ziyi gave a slight smile over the context. It feels like a dream to her. A few weeks back, she was living with the fear of Xiao Zhan falling prey to Zhang Xincheng's madness but now- it looks like all those years in which she lived paranoid successfully disappeared. Wang Yibo- in the beginning, she definitely wasn't sure about him when she got to know about his relationship with Xiao Zhan. But now, things have certainly changed. The statistical differences among the Wangs and Xiaos was for sure huge- albeit everything, they stand on two distinguished pedestals. Especially, if Xiao Zhan was the one being considered. He was not someone to say his thoughts out loud- she knew that. Wherein, Wang Yibo was a known to be blunt and forward. Honestly, the Wang Heir wouldn't even be on the list of partners that she can imagine Zhan to date- far getting married to.
But here they are; completely unexpected.
Who would have thought that the celebrity known for his intimidating demeanour would actually be a goner for her friend? Not Meng Ziyi at least but- destiny isn't something one may expect anyways.
Skipping through the corridor, she finally reached the guestroom from earlier where Xiao Zhan was left behind to gather his thoughts. But unlike what she expected, a chain of foreign murmurs resonated in her ears.
Wait- I thought Zhan was alone?!
She tried but couldn't recognise that voice, which although felt heard before but strangely off and with whatever soundproofing the room provided- she could barely hear anything.
Whoever they are, I must still not eavesdrop.
Meng Ziyi decided to back off and leave but then she remembered Xiao Lu's wish. Sighing, she knocked on the door twice before stepping inside, as in making the people inside aware of her presence. The door was surprisingly not closed at all, but shut in a way that it appears locked. She pushed the doors slightly, opening it and instantly apologizing beforehand for being a nuisance.
"Pardon my intrusion but-"
Ziyi was hesitant but this was not the moment to contemplate. She slowly entered the room, making sure she doesn't offends anyone but- the stark quietness made her feel ominous and shocked. She had definitely heard two different voices inside, one slightly loud which she can't recognise and one belonging to Xiao Zhan who spoke in a calmer way- but now, as she is finally inside, there stood no one but Sean Xiao Zhan in that empty room looking straight at her.
Was she hallucinating?
But Ziyi could have sworn there was someone else. The room itself gave a strange vibe as if- as if just a second before there was someone standing right next to the dressing table. As if- they were still someone inside the room but her eyes just can't catch up. She couldn't help as a horrifying memory kicked in. This was familiar- it was a similar feeling that she felt when she first discovered Zhang Xincheng.
Wait! Was- Was Xincheng- No Way!
Meng Ziyi stepped further into the room, trying to catch any small sound that might give away the location for an intruder but despite how hard she tried to pinpoint it- the room seemed too silent, too still.
Perhaps she was being misled by the attire of that room but she refused to admit what her eyes can see but there had to be someone else for her to hear that voice! Right? Her eyes finally caught upon Xiao Zhan who stood against the cupboard, quite. Huh? Her eyebrows quirked dramatically at that. Usually, Xiao Zhan is quick to detect if someone around him feels uneasiness but at that moment- he didn't look like he gives a single fuck to her worried self.
"Z-zhan..?"
The utter confusion in her tone may have made him aware of her concern and fear as he uplifted his cellphone showing Meng Ziyi the screen lit up with the dialler.
"I was on a call."
Xiao Zhan answered without her saying anything- in a plain monotonous tone. Although she would have never accepted that answer as the final verdict after what she heard a minute before, but that was not the case this time, at least not when she could clearly see Xiao Zhan had changed his attire and as of now- stood in a lavish black tuxedo- slightly sweaty as if he rushed through the process.
Without her interrogating much, Xiao Zhan stated that he wasn't satisfied with his attire and wanted to wear something more complementary to the occasion. Somewhere between the lines, he also mentioned that- as he was getting changed, he had to put his cellphone on speaker and that he had rechecked the caterers payment and everything. Meng Ziyi sighed. Ah- that's why I heard it. She shook her head, slightly chuckling for getting scared over nothing.
"You- You really made me worried for a moment there! Anyways, let's go. Lulu wants you to be the one escorting her. You know~ The classic!"
Meng Ziyi mentioned with a shrug and a faint smile making Xiao Zhan nod. But something about his demeanour made Meng Ziyi feel unsettling. Zhan is someone who had his mood displayed on his face. And she remembers that he looked frantically stressed when they left him behind. He was for sure pissed on the Young Wang over something- that's what Lulu had concluded through his behaviour throughout the previous day and today.
However, the scene is drastically different now. Instead of what they expected, Xiao Zhan was looking relaxed. But somehow that face, his eyes, it was all- unusual.
"Hey! Did something happen?!" Ziyi asked as she pat the other on his shoulders, clearly bothered.
"Hm? What will happen? Let's just go." His utter dismissal made her go silent. Maybe he was just stressed over the event like usual. She shook her head and stepping outside, as she scolded herself in the head for being extra cautious.
The floorboards creaked under Xiao Zhan's feet as he looked around the room for one last time picking up his wristwatch. His eyes blank and lips slightly parted as he raced his eyes over the cupboard he initially leaned against. With a slight twitch of his eyes and an almost unnoticeable nod, he left the room closing it behind him.
Alluring mood around the venue had already piqued up in a different way since the Wangs unintentionally made themselves the centre of attention. Ignoring the media hogging outside to get a glimpse of the Young Wang, the momento inside was no different. The attention that the Wang brothers attracted is known worldwide.
The Young Wang was a man of exquisite position and certain glamour- attracting leeches everywhere he goes. And even though, he holds a wedding band over his finger and a fucking pendant with his partner's initials around his neck- some people still had the audacity trying to seduce him up- oh wait, politically correct and crowd's accepted term must be approach. But neither the Wangs nor the Xiaos were blind that they won't notice such indecency. However, as if it wasn't obvious in the first place, no one could pinpoint an indirect approach intended for seduction especially not on an important occasion as such. Surprisingly, Wang Yibo- as he stood with his hands secured inside his pockets, could really not care about the environment around him. His attention was far constricted towards the issue in hand that he just got informed about.
Kim Taehyung was well known to be notorious and impulsive, he knew that.
Trusting him not to intend anything against someone they all collectively hated for ages- was a hollow thought. Considering his way of handling motherfuckers like Wang SuShe, Taehyung would have already brutalised him in ways no one could imagine. But Yibo wasn't concerned over his said uncle's well being. No way! He literally tipped Kim to kill him off in the first place. However, what made him halt the assassination was the abrupt course of information he got his hands over. Right now, eliminating his pathetic uncle would only bring distraction and he can't afford anything close to it.
Not this time.
It isn't his usual gameplay where he could do whatever he wants without having anything to compromise. This time- he is wrapping his threads around TX. One wrong move and havoc would break out destroying anything and everything in shambles.
The Young Wang was immersed in his own turmoil until he felt a tap over his shoulders.
Turning around, he found his elder brother Wang Haikuan with a frown up his beautiful face. Yibo sighed. Oh well- he can't appear upset now, Can he?! "I am just a bit sleepy, gege."
Chanting those words was his first appraisal every time he gets stuck in such situation but knowing his brother well- that excuse almost never worked out. Wang Haikuan wanted to roll his eyes on hearing the same stack of letters but decided not to as instead, he held the Wang Heir from his arm and pulled him among the familial crowd to share few words with people who actually matter.
Seeing him joining them, Wang Zi smiled slightly as she held her son and brought him standing next to the Xiaos- his in laws.
“Bo, Shouldn't you provide some tips to your to be brother-in-law?! Yuchen would've dated Lulu for a long time but marriage is a whole different step, is it not? Shouldn't you embrace him with a few tips off your personal baggage regarding how generous and marvellous the Xiao siblings are as a life partner, hmm?!"
Mentioning that as a matter of fact, Zi pushed the Young Wang a bit towards the Xiaos.
Yibo sighed internally as he followed whatever his mother wanted and, as of now, he stood next to his mother-in-law Zhang Jingtong. Cao Yuchen's parents were well aware of the Wang Heir and his status in society. To avoid upsetting him in any way possible, they tried to begin the conversation on their own. A bit chit chat here and there- wherein Wang Yibo barely talked at all- they somehow interacted anyways.
Amidst of that, Cao Yuchen suddenly received a message and as soon as he saw the contact info- his face lit up. Excused himself, Yuchen rushed towards the entrance to recieve that 'important' guest. Minutes later, he came back accompanied by an elderly man- almost in his early fifties as it looked like. His face held a certainty and serenity that reflected his composed aura as a wise being. Bringing him forward towards the familial crowd, Cao Yuchen introduced him to the Wangs present there.
The Xiaos looked like they were already aware of his identity as they greeted the elderly almost immediately. Last but not the least, he made the Wang Heir familiar with that foreign face.
"Young Wang, this is my and LuLu's professor from our college days. He was our biggest mediator! Professor Myung Dae, this is Wang Yibo- Xiao Lu's younger brother Sean Xiao Zhan's husband."
Extending his hands towards the Wang Heir, the said professor greeted him with a sweet smile. But- somewhere his stance felt layered in the dark. Nevertheless, he reciprocated the gesture as they indulged into a short-lived handshake. The others interacted as before but somehow, Yibo can feel Myung Dae's gaze on him from time to time. What was this feeling? He can't explain.
Malice? Hatred? Jealousy?!
No, it was none like that.
To pinpoint, the Wang Heir can only feel a glint of curiosity. He wanted to slam that professor and ask what that look was about but before he can- the said man already approached him beforehand. Excusing himself amongst the crowd of others, Myung Dae ignited a conversation with the Young Wang who certainly didn't like his vibe.
“The arrangements are phenomenal, aren't they?” The professor mentioned as his eyes wandered around them for a split of second. Yibo wanted to roll his eyes but kept himself composed and just provided Myung Dae with a haughty nod as an answer.
"I heard Sean did it- I mean, Sean Xiao Zhan. Your husband stands to his reputation." Myung Dae mentioned, clearly highlighting the 'husband'. Wang Yibo looked at him for a second before he smirked. He has heard this undertone before. The people who used to judge him for marrying a man- usually tend to use the same bullshitational sugarcoated way of talking around him. It's almost laughable. How come all of these retard headed ones act the same? And yet- none of them is brave enough to bark their shit boldly. Wang Yibo thought about it in pure amusement.
"Indeed. He is one talented man."
Myung Dae nodded, his gaze racking over the decor once again.
"Well, guess it runs in the blood." His slightly low tone made his words almost go unheard as he saw the Young Wang irk his eyebrow in his direction.
"I mean- Aren't Xiaos known for their craftsmanship? A classic example of elites in their gen, if I keep it more specific. I wonder how the Heir of the Wang Estate ended up indulging with one of these kinds. I heard Young Wang prefers to live more of a lousy and carefree lifestyle. Or am I misinformed in some way?!" The Professor's words were not provocative, neither was his tone impolite. But somehow, his way of crepting up the details was peculiar in it's own way.
Yibo chuckled- not a heart felt but mocking laugh.
"You seem to know a lot about me and my spouse, Professor. If it was for some other occasion, I could've mistaken you for a borderline obsessed fan of mine. Care to mention how you concluded that I, Wang Yibo, is not the type to meddle with somehow who prefers perfection? I don't remember saying it on any commercial platform." The Wang Heir stated, blatantly.
Hands tucked in his pants, he kept his stance lazy- as if it was his way of showing how little importance Myung Dae's opinions hold for him. The professor scanned his aura and backed off- raising his hands up- pretending to surrender.
"I didn't mean to offend you, Young Wang. I only said what I heard through the television and other media platforms. Afterall, You are one of the biggest event over social networking. My intentions for asking you that question was merely my personal curiousity. I have met Xiao Zhan before and- to be honest, You and him in a frame sounds like a funny headline considering how opposite your dynamics are with each other."
Myung Dae mentioned with a sweet smile that almost reached his eyes. Wang Yibo rolled his eyes at that. This professor said he didn't want to offend him and yet- he is daring enough to call him and his husband as a funny deal. He is definitely a bold bastard.
"Is it? I wonder why Professor feels like that. Me and Xiao Zhan- are clearly a well fitted pair- without any overexaggeration. Still, if you find it hilarious, I can only suggest that you keep that thought to yourself and laugh in solitude. Or who knows if your silly thought ends up actually offending someone. Caution is better than regret, no?" Wang Yibo spit out in a mocking trail with a slightly glinted warning by the end. The professor only nodded, smiling to himself before he took his leave to join the groom's family members.
With his much needed exit, Yibo sighed in annoyance. Why is he needed to deal with such irritating pricks?! And if he beats them up- suddenly he becomes the bad person.
The Mood inside the venue went from boring to ridiculous for Wang Yibo as he stood stone faced among the same batch of people. His parents were already accompanied by the Xiaos as his brother was somehow lost in the crowd. His other cousins had already found someone to hang around. But he? He was downright feeling pissed now. Although there were people flocking around like bees, their strange odour and fake behaviour made him want to slap them all then and there. But- he can't act carelessly around his in-laws now, can he?! Clenching his fists on his back, all he can do is hold himself back from combusting.
Suddenly, the crowd's attention flipped in the other direction as the host made an announcement for the bride Xiao Lu.
And Of course, his husband was the one to accompany her. Somehow, Xiao Zhan was someone who always left him stunned one way or other. Whether his bold testaments or unpredictable actions, Zhan was one of the few people that the Young Wang was always curious about. Like, for example, now- as he saw him walking down the staircase holding hands with Xiao Lulu- in a whole different attire.
And was he transfixed on spot? Maybe.
The crowd that was previously scattered in different tone of variants was now collected as a whole- witnessing the grand entrance of the bride. Some cheered, some clapped while some just acknowledged it in their own subtle way. However, unlike them, Wang Yibo's attention barely slipped anywhere other than his bratty husband. Two days- was it? He thought that he was not affected at all. But now as he can finally see Xiao Zhan getting closer with each step...
Looks like the Wang Heir did miss him.
Some what, like a blurred incident in his head- Xiao Lulu was accompanied by her mother and everyone reached the venue. Xiao Zhan- as a responsible brother he was- kept his sister a jolly company throughout the customs till she took her vow. Finally as Cao Yuchen kissed her as his bride, the function reached its end. The couple was announced married as the crowd congratulated them for the sake of it.
The Wangs, now associated with Xiaos, completed their responsibilities and laid over the dozen of gifts they brought along with. And yet- Wang Yibo still can't move his eyes off that certain someone.
Why, you may think...
Well, cause Xiao Zhan, though was now in front of him but- not once did he look at the Wang Heir. Not a single glance.
"Congratulations."
The wedding ceremony was almost over and the newly-matched couple were currently being showered with chaste blessings of a lifelong companionship. The elderly from both the families showed their gratitude to the guests who attended as they blessed their children over the big event. In the midst of the commotion, a familiar, slightly older man catches sight of a Xiao Lu. Is it... She immediately looked at Yuchen who was already smiling towards her.
"Is that really..." Xiao Lu could already feel tears pooling her eyes. Years, it's been years!
"Yes baby. My gift to you." Cao Yuchen whispered before anyone could comprehend the sudden excitement on the bride's face. Without hesitation, Lulu rushed over, a big smile on her face.
"Professor! It's really you!" Happiness is a small word to explain Lulu's mental state. How many years has it been since she last saw Professor Kim Myung Dae? There is no way she can forget a man of such unique persona. A teacher blessed with actual skills and more than anything- the most composed, resolved and determined human being she has met in her life. Xiao Lu greets him before she gives him a formal hug considering how Myung Dae was a man of set boundaries. He returns the hug warmly, his heart soaring with pride. He's always been proud of his students- whether it be Yuchen, Lulu or other batchmates but Xiao Lu has always been someone that Myung Dae adorned. Afterall, she was not only one of his brightest and most promising students but Lulu was like a daughter to him- and this fact was not hidden by anyone in the Xiaos or Cao Yuchen's family.
"You really did end up with this brat." Myung Dae exclaimed with a heartfelt laughter reminiscing the old college days when Cao Yuchen and Xiao Lulu started dating each other. "He didn't let me go." Lulu replied for Yuchen to pout. His cute tantrum only made the others to giggle as Myung Dae shook his head.
"I am happy for you."
Six years, Was it? The last time he met these two love birds. But seeing them today as married couple was something he also anticipated. It was too evident. Cao Yuchen held an unexplainable amount of love for Lulu and she, on the other hand, held a lot of patience and serenity. A clumsy disaster and a patient admirer- How can they not work? Myung Dae can't be more happy today. Considering how he never had an opportunity to start a family, his students were all he had. Seeing them happy together only brought him more relief and joy. Xiao Lulu kept him engaged, she had a lot to tell him. But throughout the conversation, Myung Dae can't help but notice the respect that his former student still had for him. She was still so polite and courteous, addressing him attentively and responding thoughtfully.
“He really thought that he could win everyone's heart. But you know teach, A-Zhan still didn't let him go off leash.” Xiao Lulu's sudden mention towards her brother as she pointed her finger towards a bright young man standing at a foot distance from them gained MD's attention. Ah right--
Xiao Zhan.
Myung Dae has heard this name a thousand times. Sometimes by Lulu's mouth, sometimes in breaking news but unfortunately, he never got many opportunities to meet this said person. Heck, he had barely seen Xiao Zhan once alongside Lulu when he was eighteen or so. Though this name was in a buzz for weeks, his identity was never disclosed which was highly intriguing. After all, Xiao Zhan is Wang Yibo's Husband.
"Teach, You never met him after that one time did you? A-Zhan, come here and greet him." Xiao Lu addressed the absence of interaction among the two said man and gestured Xiao Zhan to step forward.
Obliging it almost immediately, Zhan shook his hands and greets the professor with a formal smile. Myung Dae, too, reaches out to shake his hand, holding it for a much longer time- a warm smile on his face.
“It's a pleasure to finally meet you again, Sean Xiao Zhan.”
Xiao Zhan's eyes flicker among the man in his front and the man standing at a certain distance behind him. First things first, Professor Myung Dae was someone he apparently only remembered in blurred conversation. And thus, this warm introduction and familiarity somehow irked him wrong but- that wasn't his concern right now. As, at a certain distance, he can feel a menacingly sharp eyes on him.
Ugh right.
"What the hell!"
Wang Yibo grunts like a mumble as he stands in a corner, surrounded by unwanted bums laughingly for no reason and slow music in the background. His family, who already bestowed their blessings, were now indulged with the after party bash as music took over the dance floor. Mrs. Xiao was chatting with his mom and other ladies while the dad's were- well, drinking.
Amidst all that, he couldn't help but feel a sense of abandonment. Not because no one asked him to join- everyone was still hurdling around him like pests- but because, a certain someone dared not look him in the eyes. No matter how much he tries to catch the Xiao from his eyes, somehow that gaze skipped him almost everytime. What is it? A weird thought passed him. Did I do something? But no matter, he can't pinpoint his fault enough for Xiao Zhan to ignore him like he was invisible!
“So what?!”
The Wang Heir tried to tell himself. It's not like Xiao Zhan was his lover or anything. He was just a fake husband that he had to show off as a showpiece for a year. Plus this event is not something that requires them to be together. The pretext for the crowd will always be Xiao Zhan managing his sister's wedding over him hanging out with his husband.
There was no need for him to feel... strange.
Although, as he kept watching the Xiao not batting an eye over him- mingling gracefully with others, smiling and laughing like usual- he couldn't help but feel an unexplainable tightness in his chest.
It was as if Zhan was glowing with an inner light that drew everyone in and for a moment, the Young Wang felt a pang of anger. He knew that he should be pleased that the other was doing good on his own and was able to manage everything without wanting unnecessary attention of the Young Wang and yet- somehow that smile which wasn't directed towards him made Yibo lose his mind. As his eyes were fixated on the Xiao from afar, his thoughts were flooded with memories of the past. He remembered their week in Bangkok which now somehow pissed him off. The time of togetherness and its sheer remembrance made him mad.
He felt betrayed...? But for what!? What was it that made him so annoyed?
The Young Wang tried to shake off the feeling, but it remained, like a weight in his mind. He knew that he should not react like this but as the party drew in close, he found himself slipping through his sanity. All it required was a push- a trigger and he might snap. To avoid such conditions, he decided to distract himself with alcohol if possible but- as soon as he moved towards the bar- his eyes fell on something annoying.
Huh?
Tracing through the crowd, he saw the guy that Xiao Zhan was currently talking to. He knows him- as he annoyed the Wang Heir just an hour ago. And trust it when it says that Yibo was fuming in anger. Somehow that creep interacting with his husband made him irritated, angry, mad and everything else.
"Why the hell is that old hag holding his hands? And Why the fuck is this manager letting him do so??!"
"Pleasure is all mine, sir."
As they continue to chat, Myung Dae can't help but notice the family resemblance in Zhan. His face might not be exactly of same proportions but- as he retraced his memory- both have the same dark pitched eyes and a certain
demeanor of grace and tranquility. He felt a profound sense of gratitude in that moment, grateful for the opportunity to finally meet him. Myung Dae subconsciously caress the hand he held but Xiao Zhan somehow didn't even flinch?
Hmm?!
Trying to find out why, he looked at the Xiao in his eyes but- that gaze was not even on him. It looked like Xiao Zhan was looking at him but somehow his eyes had their focus on something else.
Myung Dae was intrigued as he tried to find the object of Xiao Zhan's concentration and it didn't take long. Standing behind him at a certain distance, he can see the Young Wang. And oh boy- if looks can kill. Myung Dae smirked at that intense gaze which was obviously directed towards his hands.
And here I thought that this marriage was a mere compromise over something. What a joke!
Contemplating everything, Myung Dae siezed the opportunity as he let go of Xiao Zhan's hands only to lean in and whisper utter gibberish. And just like he expected- not a second later he felt a tap on his back.
"Don't you think you are too close, professor?"
Fuck it!
With the last mental note, Wang Yibo immediately straightened his posture- an undeniable wrath took over him. Pushing through the crowd, as if he didn't give a single fuck about who gets offended, he approached that disgusting sight. His fists made in balls at his sides and jaw clearly clenched, he wanted to slam that old hag but composing a bit- he just tapped behind him. The music and chatter from the party faded into the background as the two men locked eyes.
“You are too close.” Stating Blantly, he kinda pulled Myung Dae away from Zhan and looked at him with an obvious irritation.
The other smirked. "Oh? My bad." Myung Dae said as he fixed his suit. "However, Young Wang- shouldn't you let your husband address it? If he was uncomfortable, he would have mentioned me to step away. But clearly, that was not the case." Professor was testing the waters as he put his hand over Zhan's shoulders clearly enjoying the reactions of the Wang Heir.
"Were you uncomfortable Zhan?"
He asked again, as he looked at the Xiao this time. Xiao Zhan was taken aback. Ofcourse, he wasn't uncomfortable with it. It's not like Professor Myung Dae was invading his personal space. He did kept a distance though he leaned in. But- that's not what his concern was. Wang Yibo was now standing in his front. If he didn't solve the misunderstanding, Yibo won't hesitate to cause trouble.
"Ofcourse not, Sir. Why would I feel uncomfortable?" Zhan exclaimed. "It looks like someone can't see right." Why was I saying all this? Xiao Zhan thought. Somehow, now as Wang Yibo was near him- a certain annoyance took over him.
"That's right." Myung Dae scoffed tapping his shoulders.
Wang Yibo, however, snapped. This entire mini interaction boiled his blood. Why was Zhan being repulsive to him? Over what?! For whom? For this creep? Was Xiao Zhan really taking his side?! That thought itself pissed him off. But he composed himself. Because even now- Xiao Zhan didn't look at him once. Tch! If this stupid manager is fine with not talking to him, he is not dying for the cause either. The Wang Heir fixed his suit, his initial mocking demeanour taking over.
"Ah right. I think I should stop interfering in things which are not my concern. Whatever, you can continue with your chit chat."
With that said, Wang Yibo left- not once looking back.
Xiao Zhan saw his silhoutte fading away in the crowd as his hands twitched to hold onto him. Why was it that even after all this- he wanted to at least- No! Yibo said he was not his concern. Correct, Xiao Zhan was just- no, he was nothing to the Wang Heir. His droopy shoulders didn't go unnoticed by the Professor who sighed at that. Kids these days really tend to put their ego above everything eh?
"You saw it didn't ya?"
"W-what?"
"His gaze on you. And yet- you didn't want to talk to him? I heard that Wang Yibo is a man of his words. If he wanted to, he could've taken you with him. None can dare to protest. But looks like he respected your choices and more than that just craved somehow attention- which somehow when I got it instead of him- he felt betrayed and angry. Yet, you sure something is not wrong? You sure you don't want to go behind him?" Myung Dae stated his thoughts out loud making Xiao Zhan feel exposed. The Professor was right. If Yibo desired to talk to him, he could just pick the Xiao up and leave like nothing. No one in this huge ass crowd has the power to stop him. And yet- Xiao Zhan repulsed him. He wanted to talk too- but at the same time- he didn't.
Zhan was annoyed. But why? He can't figure it out.
"I am busy, he is busy. I can always talk to him later sir. No big deal" Yes, that's what everyone should know.
"Later huh? I wish you can. Somehow, from my experience, this later always ends up badly..."
Xiao Zhan soon ended his conversation with Myung Dae as he got interrupted by Cao Yuchen. "Hope I am not disturbing y'all?!" He stated, oblivious. Zhan sighed. He can't trot back now since Yuchen is his brother-in-law.
"Not actually. After all, you are the main event tonight." Xiao Zhan mentioned, slightly sarcastic but though he didn't lie- his sarcasm wasn't offensive. Cao Yuchen scoffed at informing his professor that Xiao Lu wanted to introduce him to her friends. Taking his leave, Myung Dae soon departed towards the girls.
"Main Event, you say. But it looks like that's not what everyone perceived." A subtle smirk decorated Yuchen's lips as he instigated a conversation with Zhan, making him confused.
"Elaborate?"
"Well Well, Mr.Xiao Zhan- or should I say Mr. Wang Xiao Zhan l?! Your husband clearly has his eyes only for you, no? I tried so hard to make him talk or continue the conversation and yet- ugh!" Cao Yuchen mentioned remembering the time that the Wang Heir completely ignored his existence. He wasn't angry or disappointed but purely amused with it. "I didn't take the Young Wang to be a lover man type of guy. Like c'mon- the way his eyes were only searching for you throughout the whole party? Annoying! Now I understand how you felt in my and Lulu's dating phase. I sympathise with you buddy." And with that, Cao Yuchen kept blabbering his complaints. However, unlike what he expected, Xiao Zhan barely listened to anything that followed afterwards
He was searching for...me?
Oh.
A strange relief flushed over his face as if something heavy uplifted from his chest. The initial grimace that made him feel annoyed was unknowingly dispersing.
His eyes are only for you.
Somehow those words were overtaking another chain of words that someone quoted to him not too long ago.
"Such sentimentality will destroy you completely. It blinds you and prevents you from seeing the truth. You think he feels the same? You think he would lose his mind just because his fake husband didn't call?! Wake up and witness the truth."
But- His eyes were only searching for me.
"The so-called emotions are not only false but also extremely ridiculous. It's simply a chemical illusion, a temporary chemical reaction that only distorts a person's perspective. It clouds their judgment and often leads to irrational behaviour. There's no depth or truth in love, it's an extremely stupid concept."
That is what it's like.
I was annoyed.
Because- I thought he didn't miss me.
"Not you too!"
Cao Yuchen's sharp words broke his stance. "Huh what?" Xiao Zhan saw Yuchen sigh at that.
"Have you two lovebirds mutually decided to ignore me? First he didn't hear me- too distracted to find you and now you- what are you distracted with?" Cao Yuchen's words were like a knife to his stern decision of keeping his distance with the Young Wang. He promised not to sway away with anything and yet- his mind got clouded with unwanted emotions.
Too distracted for me?
The truth remains uncertain - but one thing was clear: Whatever these emotions did to Zhan, it still hasn't run its course. This whole phase of unsettling encounter, Xiao Zhan grappled with these newfound changes in himself. His feelings took a toil on him- peaked too fast and dropped almost immediately- leaving him angry and frustrated. He can't help but wonder- What can even cure this? How long will it take for him to go back to his initial self? And worst of all - what if this desire, this need to see the Young Wang becomes permanent? Fear gnaws at his thoughts as he fathoms with this unexpected predicament - its source now lost forever in the labyrinth of secrets.
Each passing second intensifies his struggles; trapped within this hyper-sensitive heart. As the relentless thoughts take control, any semblance of normalcy slips further away.
"This has to end!" He tends to mumble "But how?" Was his desperate element.
No answers present themselves - only an endless cycle of need and repulsion- and yearning for being released from this torment. Why was Wang Yibo looking for him? He can't fathom. The Wang Heir always remained as a shadowy enigma; yet his dominion over Xiao Zhan is only growing stronger still. He became acutely aware that if anything can reverse these unwanted emotions- it may well lie beyond his reach in the depths where it all began. The professor was right, later will only cause more trouble. Yes, it's now or never.
Finally, collecting his thoughts, Xiao Zhan addressed the groom in a swift manner.
"I need to find him. I'll talk to you later."
The Young Wang already left the party venue as of now- stood in the parking lot. The silence is deafening and the walls feel too close. As he paced back and forth, his mind was consumed with thoughts of everything that just happened. A cigarette falls on his lips as frustration takes over. In his mind, the scene replays- the recent conversations he had with Xiao Zhan, trying to make sense of what went wrong. What did he do?? What did he do to deserve such ignorance? Despite the utter confusion, Wang Yibo couldn't figure out the reason for Xiao Zhan's strange behaviour- though he refused to give up. He was determined to stop the wedding, if needed, for Xiao Zhan to talk to him and clear all this bullshit. To make things right, he should at least be informed what was wrong.
Taking another puff off the dangerous cancerous stick, his head hovers with all the possible circumstances.
Somehow the first occurrence that troubled him was the old professor. He should've just dragged Xiao Zhan away from that creep but- he felt a pang of pride that stopped him short. He was the Wang Heir, sounding or acting like a desperate bummer was against his reputation. Plus, he didn't want any drama- not yet at least. But deep down, Yibo knew that it was his own insecurities and fear of repulsion that held them back. Despite his initial reluctance, Wang Yibo wanted to follow his heart. He wanted to know- he wanted to ask- he deserved to be acknowledged by Zhan. Thus, with a newfound sense of determination, he took a deep breath and sent a message to the Xiao. But somehow, the utter dismal that Zhan indirectly showed to him throughout the party made his words contaminated. The growing sense of anger and frustration and the fact that he was taken for granted- it was frustrating.
In a moment of rage, the Young Wang decided to take matters into his own hands and cleared everything he wrote just to send a voice message instead.
"Think of it as your last chance manager. If you don't meet with me now, you're going to regret it." He quotes his tone quivering with fury- slightly threatening.
"I'm done being patient. Meet me or else I would burn this entire place to ashes and then- none of your apologies will suffice to stop me."
As he continues, Wang Yibo's tone grows darker and more menacing. He knows that their words are harsh and might even be considered abusive, but he felt like he had no other choice. He was driven to the brink, and thus Xiao Zhan needs to know how serious he was with his words. As his tottering was subjected further, Wang Yibo felt another wave of realisation hit him. Despite his anger, he knows that this isn't the way to handle the situation. Yibo knew that he needs to find a way to communicate without escalating the situation further. But in that moment, all his consciousness can focus on is the need to be heard and listened.
Satisfied with his words, he pressed the send but before the message could be delivered, a familiar voice called for him.
“Ahm- Yibo?”
“A beautiful night, isn't it?”
Myung Dae who stood fascinated with the familial elements hidden among the decoration- finds himself interrupted by a guest as his eyes wander all over the place. The guest, dressed in chiselled boots and luxurious suit chimes in with a glass of champagne as he stands next to the old professor in a familiar stance- which he didn't welcome in a way or another.
“Absolutely.” MD mentions, a little surprised. “Though it would have been more beautiful if things went the way I wanted. And someone would stop interfering.” He added in a slow but assertive tone taking a sip out of the champagne offered. The guest slightly scoffed at that, nodding as if he acknowledged his words.
“I respect your enthusiasm, but- I won't trust a lying bastard to arrange for shit.”
Hearing such ferrous atrocities targeted towards him, the professor only chuckled. “You do hold some grudge against me don't you? I wonder why though. It can't be because of my position and respect among the Xiaos. Or maybe- you are afraid of not being helpful to your friend after all the fake promises you made to him.”
The obvious glare from the guest only fueled his cockiness as Myung Dae took another sip from his champagne only to return it in the hands of the said guest. “I don't care what you think about me. But some things should always be handled by the adults in charge for the better good. And I don't think either of us want bad for the Xiaos. But you are prying too much into the things that were buried years ago. Just do what you should as a 'considered' good friend . Don't try to be a detective over a fussing episode of nightmares. Sedatives work just fine don't they? Do your job and buzz off.
Is that clear, Psychiatrist Song Jiyang?”
“Ahm- Yibo?”
The sense of quiteness that surrounded the couple made it awkward for Xiao Zhan to step forward. Wang Yibo's sudden disappearance from the venue already caused a lot of gossips but on top of that- Zhan could sense the uneasiness oozing out of the Wang Heir's stance. Hearing him call, Yibo did turn around but just like Xiao Zhan, the young Wang didn't take any step further.
His sharp gaze and clenched jaw, however, said another story which only made Zhan gulp in nervousness.
“W-why are you here? Leaving the venue like this- it would embarass the bride and groom.” What am I even saying? Xiao Zhan thought in awe. He was here to talk about them not others. But somehow, his mouth only sprouted utter nonsense.
“Your exit was adrupt that it made the crowd think something went wrong. I don't want anyone to think that our hospitality was flawed because of your impulsive decision-
“The next words I hear from you better be about us and not what the fuck your guests think!”
A sharp voice made Xiao Zhan flinch in his stance as he heard how vicious and angry the Young Wang sounds. He could hear the footsteps approaching him- his instincts peeking up telling him to run and yet; he didn't. All Zhan did was wait- looking calm and poised as Wang Yibo neared towards him at a fast pace.
“Go ahead. Complete your words Xiao Zhan.” Those siren eyes fixated on him kept warning the Xiao about the anger hidden in them but nevertheless- Xiao Zhan was really testing the waters.
With a deep breath, he locked his eyes with the Wang Heir as a monotonous statement left his pretty lips.
“Don't be a nuisance. And if you want to be one, you are free to leave.”
And it was as if the whole stance of Young Wang's irritation and anger crashed upon hearing it, Xiao Zhan can visibly see him feel hurt and dejected. Yibo's eyes went from raging to disappointed in a second and oh! did it make the Xiao feel a pang in his chest? Definitely. Only then he realised how rude was his words. All the anger that he felt for two days on the occasion of not meeting the Wang- addition to his guilt of being distracted from his initial motive- together made him subconsciously treat the Wang Heir like an absolute shit. From the very first moment, he kept ignoring Yibo and now- did he just ask him to leave? Is that what he came here to say?!
The defeating silence that followed only hurt him more and only when he thought it can't get worse- Wang Yibo spoke up.
“Why are you doing this Zhan?”
Xiao Zhan looked up at him, a mix of shock and confusion written on his face. The tone he just heard wasn't something that Yibo addressed him with before. It was sad, desperate and moreover defeated. The Wang Yibo, someone portrayed as a dominant ruthless spoilt brat- Zhan could have never imagined such vulnerability dripping off from his words.
“W-what are you talking about?" he asked, taking a step back.
“Did I do something bad? Why are you treating me like this?! At least, t-tell me what went wrong!”
The Wang Heir was stuttering as he couldn't frame a set of words to explain himself and that only made the Xiao feel more and more like a douche. He tried to argue back, but Yibo's desperation was palpable. The tension in the air was thick, as if the two men were on the brink of a physical confrontation. A confrontation that might cause Xiao Zhan to do something that he clearly shouldn't- especially in a contractual relationship. However the constant questioning and desperate pleas for an answer clouded his mind.
“Do you even realise how much I have waited? How the hell did I even survive these two days?! I wasn't able to sleep without an embrace beside me- causing myself to overwork. That's how much I needed you beside me! I missed you. And yet- this is the treatment I got over all that fuss? Really Xiao Zhan? Do you think I deserve it? No. I clearly don't deserve this! Tell me, Why are you ignoring me? I deserve to know.” Reluctant to be answered, Wang Yibo only became more assertive overtime. His desperation- now mixed with annoyance overtook Xiao Zhan's entire self. He can feel the Wang's hands grabbing his arms as he pulls him closer- only for Xiao Zhan to barely keep his righteousness. Every word that escaped from Yibo's mouth only troubled his sanity more and more.
“Fuck- Do you even realise how needy I Am? You are my husband! My husband. I have rights over you and you have on me. Use me, I don't care! Haven't I told you already? But dare you ignore me like this. This is not acceptable Xiao Zhan. Not at all!”
Oh. It all makes sense now.
Is that the reassurance he wanted all this time? Xiao Zhan can feel his heart sink in as a sense of pride and belongingness caged his practicality. And in that moment, Zhan realized that he didn't just miss the Wang Heir either - he needed him. He needed him more than anything else in the world. Not for some task to deliver or for the Wang to be his seeker but- he needed the Wang Heir in his life as something. And it wasn't clearly because they are bounded by a fucking contract but rather- something else just clicked and tied them together. He won't name it or call it off as a feeling to knock it off just yet- but there was definitely something which he unwillingly started to cherish overtime.
Actually, that realisation was enough because- not only a second later- Xiao Zhan held the Wang Heir from his cheeks, caressing it a bit, before he lunged towards him caging those questioning lips among his own. Tasting over his savoury, Zhan could feel the Wang go still and shocked. He pushed in a bit more, leaving a lasting impact on Young Wang's soft lips before breaking away.
“I hope it answered all your questions.”
Widen eyes, open mouth, Wang Yibo clearly forgot all the doubts he had in that moment as he gulped on Xiao Zhan's bold gesture. Eyes wavering from his doe eyes to the lips that just silenced him, Yibo could feel a wild emotion slowly taking over. And seeing that the Xiao didn't leave just yet, his body moved on it's own pulling his husband closer.
“I might need a better and longer explanation though.”
And with that said, Wang Yibo smacked his lips on the Xiao again as his hand slid along his waist.
Savouring his lips like a kid drooling on a dripping popsicle, Wang Yibo grabbed Xiao Zhan from his neck and waist leaning in as he pulled him more further- if possible. Wherein Xiao Zhan got a mouthful of liquor-flavors and a needy tongue poking his mouth which he clearly let him enter, exploring his mouth. A sense of being kissed by the Wang Heir made him feel ignited. And Wang Yibo was needy, like he can't get enough of him. It was obscene but he would lie if Zhan said he didn't feel the same. He was being kissed, no, he was being ravaged, clasped so tightly he could barely breathe, and when he gasped for air, the Young Wang only took his chin in his hand and kissed him harder.
Xiao Zhan scrabbles futilely against the embrace, frantically trying to figure out what to do next and how to extricate himself, even as his whole body is leaning into the kiss.
He doesn't know when or how he began kissing back, only that that mouth is exactly as lush as it looks. Grabbing the Young Wang from his shoulders he made the kiss go deeper nibbling on his lips as Xiao Zhan tried to devour him whole. Wang Yibo slid in, their tongues together and startles a trapped, helpless noise out of him. To his ultimate shame and mortification, the man in that lavish attire must take it for some kind of encouragement, because he murmurs, “Aren't you insatiable tonight baby? Such a sight to behold” and slides his hand approvingly over Zhan's throat like a kind of caress. Xiao Zhan tries to hold his ground, but his body is too desperate now, making him rock forward, seeking more and more friction.
Sliding his fingers through Yibo's hair in a desperate attempt to savour him, grabbing fistfuls of the silk-smooth strands. He's being kissed, oh, it feels like everywhere, now; his mouth is at his temple, on his jaw, swiping over his earlobe and pressing kisses along his throat, as he tilts Xiao Zhan's head back for better access. And did Xiao give it to him? Hell yeah. Those cold hands are gnawing everywhere, too, gripping his hips, kneading his chest, frotting their crotches together.
And oh, god, he's fucking big! Xiao Zhan can tell even through his pants, even without looking. Just the feel of the Wang Yibo's cock against his was enough to tell about the lethal weapon the Wang Heir packed down there.
“Fuck- So beautiful.”
Xiao Zhan heard, and it's only when the words reach his ears that he realized he's had his eyes closed for several seconds. He shuddered, and his husband apparently kissed his forehead, sliding his hand down over Xiao Zhan's chest like he's gentling him. The gesture shouldn't feel soothing, but Xiao Zhan is so on edge that he feels ignited, his nerves sparking all over. The Wang Heir kissed him again on his lips- only for a second before he took him in his embrace as Xiao Zhan rested his head against his shoulders.
Feeling a hand caressing his hairs, Zhan only purrs slightly- holding him tighter. Embracing the touch that was meant to calm his down, Xiao Zhan slowly rubbed the Wang Heir among himself and oh- something was poking his thighs. He shouldn't address it, he knows that but he felt rebellious tonight because-
Xiao Zhan slowly slid his hands down on the obvious bulge before looking up to the Wang Heir directly in his eyes-
“Yibo, You are hard.”

But the case is finally over. And nothing best than uploading a chapter😭 anyways- For everyone worried over my well being( the message board😭😭) guys I am alive! I am fine as fuck! And I hope you all are doing well enough.
Now with the story...I tried to post on AO3 but something is just not fitting right as I can't upload gifs and pictures. I did make a copy of everything so the story won't be gone in case it's deleted in near future.
#MyungDae: This character is purely fictional and doesn't exists in reality. It's actually a rip off of the famous BL character from BJ Alex from Mingwa. Although it contributes to the story so...🫡
This is him btw!
And if I had to cast someone as MD in real life- it would be Hakken cause man- they are hot asf.
Until then
Spread love and legs ✨🤰🏻
