Chapter 24

I sat with Gee at our seats in journalism, holding his hand under the table.

"I need volunteers for the football game," the teacher said.

Gee raised his hand. "Can I please be the photographer, sir?"

"Of course," he said. "Who wants to work with Gee?"

I was about to raise my hand when Burt did.

"Great, it's here after school," Mr. Ackerson said.

I glared at the black haired boy and raised my hand.

"Can I do it with them?" I asked.

"The more the merrier!" He said happily.

I gave a smile at Gee and he smiled back.

"Have you finished that article yet, Andy?" Mr. Ackerson asked.

"Almost," Andy said.

"Email it to me once you're done," he said. "As for everyone else, continue on with the projects you were working on."

Gee went over to one of the computers against the wall and I sat at the one next to him. I logged onto the computer, opening the little article I had been working on. I felt Gee's lips on my skin as he leaned over to kiss my cheek. I looked over at his blushing cheeks while he hid his face in his hands.

"You're adorable," I muttered.

"Nobody's gonna be home after school," Gee said. "Can you please come over after the game?"

I smiled, nodding my head.

"Actually, I went by the drugstore on the way to school this morning and got you something," I said. "I mean, it wasn't anything expensive like your dad gets you but I thought you'd like it."

Gee smiled at me and held my hand. "Anything you get is great! Can I have it now?"

I shook my head. "Let's just wait until we get to your house, baby."

Gee pouted and I leaned over to kiss his lips.

"Frank, Gee, I want you to focus," Mr. Ackerson said.

I saw Gee look a little nervous because he got into trouble but he seemed more relaxed when I smiled at him. I pulled my hand from his, looking at the computer screen in front of me. My hands typed at the keyboard bordely, waiting for the class to end.

When it finally did, I shut off the computer and held Gee's hand as I stood up. The two of us grabbed our bags and headed out into the hallway. That's when Burt caught up to us with a smile.

"So, we're going to the football game now I guess, it starts in about half an hour," he said.

"You know, if you want to leave you can, me and Gee can handle it ourselves," I said.

Gee looked up at me with a sad look. "But it's more fun with more people. Like Mr. Ackerson said, the more the merrier. Oh please, Frankie, Burt is so nice."

I glanced over at Burt and sighed.

"Ok fine, he can come along," I said.

Burt looked a little confused but seemed to just brush it off. We headed off to the fields where about a third of the stands were filled and our home team was getting ready on the fields. The stands were opened and Gee's eyes lit up. He tugged on my arm and looked up at me with puppy dog eyes.

"Can I please get popcorn?" He asked. "I forgot my wallet at home."

I bit my lip, digging into my pocket and pulling out a dollar and a few pennies.

"I'm sorry, baby, I spent all my money on the gift I got you this morning," I apologized.

Gee looked a little disappointed but he didn't say anything.

"I can buy it for you," Burt offered.

Gee smiled happily, nodding his head in excitement. The two went up to the stand while I stood behind and watched, a small frown on my face. They came back and I wrapped my arm around Gee's waist. We went to the filling stands and waited for the game to start. Later on Gee would go down to the edge of the field with the camera Mr. Ackerson gave him but for now he sat with us.

"How long do games usually take?" Gee asked.

"About an hour and a half," Burt answered.

"Frankie, do you think that after the game we can go see your mom?" Gee asked hopefully.

"Yeah, we can go see my mom," I agreed.

Gee smiled, kissing my cheek affectionately. Soon enough, the game started. Gee went down, talking to the people while they let onto the fields. He stood at the side on the tracks, taking pictures of the people playing the game. Burt and I sat together a little awkwardly, occasionally taking notes of players and stats.

"You know, Gee is my boyfriend," I stated.

"Yeah, I'm just being friendly is all," Burt said.

"Just don't be getting too friendly," I warned.

We sat through the game until it was finished, taking note of final scores, times, any sorts of things needed to write an article about it. I went down the bleachers as people started to get up. I met Gee down at the gate and he smiled.

"Bye bye, Burt!" Gee called to the figure that was walking away.

Burt turned, giving him a wave before walking towards his car again. I held onto Gee's hand as we went into the school. The two of us dropped the camera off in Mr. Ackerson's classroom before heading to my car and driving to the hospital.

"Are you sure she's gonna like me?" Gee asked nervously.

"She's gonna love you, Princess," I reassured.

"And can we still go back to my house after, daddy?" He asked.

I smiled and nodded at him. I reached over to hold his hand, bringing it up to my lips to give it a kiss.

"Daddy, your the bestest daddy in the world," Gee said.

"And your the best, most beautiful little princess in the world," I said.

We got up to the hospital and to my mom's room. I knocked on the door and opened it.

"Hi, mamma," I greeted.

She smiled when she saw me, smiling even wider when she saw Gee. I walked over, pulling Gee behind me. He hid behind me quietly, shyly looking around at the room at my mom and the nurse, Sarah.

"You must be Gee," my mom said.

I looked behind me at Gee, who was blushing as he buried his face into the back of my shoulder. I stepped aside and Gee held onto my hand nervously as he looked down.

"Well, aren't you a cutie," my mom chuckled.

Sarah gave us a smile. "I think I'll leave you three to this."

She went out of the room and I sat in the chair next to my mom. Gee sat in the chair next to me, glancing over at my mom.

"In Linda," my mom greeted to the shy boy. "It's so nice to finally meet you, I was wondering when my son would find someone."

I bit my lip and she smiled.

"Let's go for a little walk, shall we?" My mom suggested.

I helped her sit up, and get up to her feet. Her small, fragile body leaned against me and the IV stand. The three of us walked down the hallway with Gee by my side. We walked down to a window area where a couple other patients were. My mom sat on the couch and I sat in the chair opposite her with Gee in the seat beside me. A little coffee table was between us with little fake flowers on it.

"So, Gee, you met Frankie at school?" My mom asked.

Gee blushed and nodded his head.

"That's so sweet," my mom cooed. "I think you two make an adorable couple."

Gee blushed and I made a noise of embarrassment.

"Did you two already know each other before you started dating?" My mom asked.

Gee shook his head. "I used to go to a boarding school."

"Oh really? Why is that?" My mom asked.

"I like art so my parents sent me to a very fancy school on the west coast because it would give me a chance to study more about art and get a better education," Gee said.

"Well, why don't you go there anymore?" My mom asked.

Gee blushed. "I got expelled because they don't like me wearing skirts."

"Well that's just stupid," my mom said. "You should be able to wear whatever you want. And, might I add, that dress looks very nice on you."

Gee looked down at his pastel purple dress with a blush. I smiled at him, and when he saw it made him blush harder. I noticed my mom smiling at us happily. I ran a hand through my hair and glanced out the window and the sky that was filled with dark clouds.

"Where's the bathrooms?" Gee asked.

"Down the hall right there," I said.

Gee nodded, getting up and heading towards the bathrooms. My mom smiled happily, seeming to be proud of my new relationship.

"He seems so cute and sweet," she said.

"Yeah, he is," I agreed.

"I'm glad you found him, I think he'll be good for you," my mom said. "Oh, I just keep imagining weddings now."

"Mamma, we haven't been dating long enough for marriage to be seen," I said.

"I'm getting old, I like to think of these things," my mom said.

"Mamma, you're only, like, forty," I said.

"Well, I feel old," she said. "Let me be at peace and imagine weddings for you and Gee."

That's when Gee came back, sitting down next to me. I reached over to hold his hand and he smiled.

"Do you two have classes together?" My mom asked.

"Only journalism," I said.

"You know, when your father and I met I felt like I was a teenager again," she said. "Oh, young love is so great, there's always something beautiful about it."

I smiled and looked at Gee, who smiled back at me.

"I should probably let you two get going," she said. "I'm sure Frankie doesn't want to be with his boyfriend and his mother for too long, rather just have his boyfriend alone."

Gee blushed along with me. I held her arm as I helped her back to her room. She was a lot stronger now but sometimes she did need a bit of help. I helped her into her bed, waving her goodbye as we left for Gee's house.
