It was a cold winter evening, most people in Xenith were cozy and heated, but not Jackie. No, he was forced to find solace in an alley, covered by a thin blanket that didn't offer warmth. He hadn't eaten in what could've been days, so the only mercy he got was from fainting due to exhaustion. The snow only made the cold worse, and Jackie wished that he had enough on him to rent out a hotel room for the night. He faints again, until something warm and copperish drips down his face. Blood, and lots of it. He wakes up and tries to stop it, until he sees something come out of his gold cat statue. Marvin, the demigod of luck.

"Hello. I see that you're down on your luck."

"M-Marvin? Why are you visiting me? There are others so much worse than me."

"Don't worry, i am here to help you. Now, what do you need help with?"

"Maybe, just, make a fire or something? It's cold and I want to sleep for once.."

"That's actually not much. You sure you just want a fire and not, like, a house?"

"No, i'm fine with this. I just want some warmth right now."

Marvin quietly gets some small, dry sticks and puts them in a pile. It's odd that whoever this was simply asked for a fire, not a place to stay, but a fire. Jackie shivers as more snow falls and Marvin sets the fire. The alley concrete is cold and unforgiving, and the sun sets with the only noise being the crackles from the fire and some cars driving by. Jackie quietly gets up and huddles around the fire, with Marvin being shadowed by the top of the flames.

"You're a unique case. What's your name?"

"Jackie."

"Hm. well, Jackie, does it ever get lonely living like this?"

"Yeah, i guess so. But, i've never really felt lonely."

"Well, why don't i give you company? I don't have much better to do."

"Sure, but you mind keeping watch for tonight?"

"No, not at all."

Jackie lays back down and falls asleep for the first time in years, while Marvin turns into a cat and stands near the fire, keeping watch. Eventually, Marv grows tired and he curls up next to Jackie to sleep.
