Why We Love Grover Underwood

Come on, let's admit it. All of us in this fandom have a liking for Grover Underwood. Let's appreciate him a little more! Here are 5 reasons on why we love Grover.

1. Without him, we might never have come across our favorite demigods. Where would Thalia Grace, Nico and Bianca di Angelo, Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, and Luke Castellan be if Grover hadn't found them? Would they have found their way to Camp Half-Blood through another satyr or by themselves? Or would they get killed by monsters? We really don't know.

2. He's a complete environmentalist. ' "Meat! I'm a vegetarian." "You eat cheese enchiladas and tin cans," I reminded him. "Those are vegetables." ' In the Lightning Thief, Grover was deeply saddened when he saw the neglected animals in the truck, with chewing gum in their hair and mismatched food in their pans, and he insisted on freeing them. If he sees litter, his heart will sink in his chest. He even had a crush on Artemis because she was 'so into nature'. Grover is pretty enthusiastic about his natural surroundings. He's always striving to keep the environment clean and healthy. One way is by eating the garbage, making him a living recycling centre. Speaking of his eating habits...

3. He loves food. Like, seriously, he'll eat almost anything. ' "If you're not going to eat it...can I have your Diet Coke can?" ' Over the course of Rick Riordan's books, we've seen Grover eat anything and everything. When he's nervous, Grover's instinct will be to chew on random objects, which is rather hilarious. Be it pancakes, enchiladas, tin cans, furniture... he'll eat it!

4. Grover's character has always managed to make us laugh. ' "Grover, stop eating your seat belt. You're setting a bad example." ' Even between major wars and hard times, Grover has managed to spread a smile on our faces. He can break the ice in times of darkness with his wit and clumsiness. Besides, he invented the 'dam' pun, an inside joke the fandom loves.

5. He is the kindest and most loyal demigod protector we know. Apart from Coach Hedge, Grover is probably the only satyr to have made friends with the demigods, but Grover was more connected with them. He made the demigods feel safe and protected and did his best to keep them as happy as possible. He befriended Percy at Yancy Academy, and not just because it was his job, but because Percy was lonely and was made fun of almost daily by Nancy Bobofit and her friends. They remain friends throughout the series.

Overall, Grover is humorous, a foodie and an environmentalist. He is an amazing character, but is overshadowed by newer characters in the Heroes of Olympus series. It is sad that he was not seen very much in HoO, but he's featured in the Trials of Apollo, and it's great that he is! We hope to see many more appearances by Grover in the coming books!
