Chp 8
2012
After the revelation Niklaus dropped on his siblings that he is fertile, the Mikaelson siblings adjourned to their unfinished manor. Rebekah tried her best to 'help' with the interior design but Niklaus was not having it. After all, it was his house. Rebekah pouted and went to the Grill for a drink bumping into the one and only Damon Salvatore.
Damon remembered what happened the last time the two of them got drunk and did not want a repeat performance. At least, not in the sense of a drunken hate bang. He actually liked Barbie Klaus; she kept him on his toes and the banter was always entertaining. After spending a couple of hours at the Grill going through most of the Bourbon, Damon helped take Rebekah home. He knew how her big brothers would react and didn't want his heart torn out.
Over the next few weeks things were going smoothly, until a frantic Lexi called Stefan, "Hey, Lexi." "Stefan, I don't have much time to talk." Stefan gained another frown as he sat up straighter at his desk, "What's going on? Are you okay?" Lexi chuckled at her old friend's concern before she became serious, "I have been traveling with Lee and we are currently in the Appalachian Mountains. I saw some vampires snatch up a few loner wolves." Damon whooshed in; he was too nosy for his own good sometimes.
Damon knew about what happened with the Originals first sired and this may be Lucien's work. He spoke so Lexi could hear him, "Can you follow them?" "We did from a distance. They ended up at a place called Kingfisher," Lexi says quietly. "Are you there now?" Damon asked. Lexi nodded even though Damon couldn't see, then answered, "Yeah, the place is swarming with vampires. They brought in nine wolves. One of the women had to be heavily sedated when she ripped a vampire's heart out."
Smirking, Damon thought of one particular She-Wolf, "Just keep an eye on them. Don't get caught. We come there with back-up." "Alright, see you soon," Lexi hung up. Stefan asked Damon, "What's going on, Damon?" Damon went to grab his jacket, "It's one of those things that ends bad for all of us if we don't nip it in the butt now. Let's go see the Originals. They'll want in on this."
Elijah answered the door, "Damon? What do we owe for this unexpected visit?" Damon rubbed the back of his neck, "Yeah, sorry for not calling. Can we come in?" Elijah could sense his urgency and stepped aside. The three of them walked further into Mikaelson Manor. Klaus was sketching, Finn was reading, and Rebekah was painting her nails. Kol had just returned to the land of the living after having his neck snapped. He wanted to go on a killing spree, but Niklaus wouldn't let him.
Damon cleared his throat to get their attention, "Evening everyone. Sorry to disrupt but we just got a frantic phone call from a friend. She and her boyfriend stumbled upon your first sired and his company of psychopathic scientists. Lucien is capturing werewolves and experimenting with their venom." Klaus closed his sketchbook and stood up, "Experiments?" "Yeah, he plans to combine venom from the seven packs to create something that can't be cured. There's more to it but I wasn't around for it since it happened in New Orleans. Lexi described the actions of one of the wolves fighting to escape but ultimately lost. But not before ripping out a vampire's heart," Damon got their full attention now. He was mainly looking at Klaus when he said that hoping it would dawn on him.
"So...We get to kill some vampires?" Kol was bouncing on his toes wanting to rush out the door. Elijah sighed, "Let's get some more information first before we storm in." Damon snorted, "If you're talking about your group of snobbish bookworms then you might want to rethink that. They're in on everything already. Last time, Stefan and Hayley had to sneak into the Strix HQ riding in the trunk of a car. Stefan was marked by Reyna Cruz and used it to get her to attack the Strix. Again, something else on the agenda for later, but first Lucien."
At the mention of Hayley's name Klaus perked up but tried to hide it. He didn't want to admit he was intrigued by the She-Wolf. From what he saw from Damon's memories, Hayley was a force to be reckoned with. Then the rest of what Damon said hit Klaus, "Why was Hayley sneaking in with Stefan?" Klaus threw a glare at the Ripper. Damon cleared it up quickly, "You and Elijah were held captive by Aya and the Strix. Figured Reyna Cruz was a great distraction while Hayley and Stefan got you two out."
They hashed out a few more details. Stefan texted Lexi for the address of the company and told her to stay out of sight. Stefan got the address and they piled into two cars and left. Kol was excited for the inevitable fight, Elijah wanted nothing more than to contact Aya and find out if it's true. Rebekah didn't care either way, she was just bored. Klaus can't seem to get the image of Hayley out of his mind. Finn and Sage stayed in Mystic Falls for the time being. Damon and Stefan were leading the group in his car.
Arriving after dark, the group met up with Lexi and Lee. "Okay, so far, we have seen at least 25 vampires rotate in and out twice a day. The next group is rotating in about a half-hour. It's like clockwork. The lab coats leave before sundown. And they have disposed of a few wolves and several vampires," Lexi told them. Lee chimed in, "The bodies are burnt the next morning in the empty field behind the place. The vampires looked like they suffered from several wolf bites all at once. The wolves were emaciated from being starved and venom drained. None of the wolves disposed of since we've been watching them are from the group we saw taken."
Damon nodded, "Anything about entries and exits." Lexi held up two fingers, "Two ways in and out. The front door and one out the back. The back door is the most used." "We'll split up. Half take the front and the rest break through the back. During the shift change would be best, so if anyone wants to back out right now would be the time?" Niklaus looked over the group and saw everybody was going. Kol clapped his hands, "Okay, let's go people." Stefan looked at Kol curiously, "Where did you get a bat?"
The group didn't bother to hide that they were storming the building. Klaus, Damon, Kol, Lee, and Rebekah went in through the back. Elijah, Lexi, and Stefan went through the front. Elijah tried to talk to the receptionist at first but she was under orders to not let anyone in. The receptionist hit a button under her desk that had the three vampires surrounded by armed men. Lexi and Elijah moved faster than Stefan but they took care of the armed men and the receptionist. Then they moved further into the building, killing anyone they came across.
The group at the back door broke it down and started killing everyone whether vampire or scientist. Damon and Klaus reached the lab ahead of the rest. Kol was having too much fun whacking heads off with his bat. Rebekah and Lee were heading towards the other half of their group since they planned to meet in the middle. Nobody involved was getting out alive.
Damon and Klaus found the caged wolves with masks on and started getting them out. The first two wolves were already dead and the rest were close to it. The final cage held who they were looking for. Klaus broke open her cage and carefully removed the mask. He could see that her jaw was broken and she had bruises from being assaulted. Klaus spoke aloud, "If those vampires weren't already dead, I'd tear them apart." A groan was heard from the wolf.
Hayley felt the mask being taken off and her restraints removed. She tried to open her eyes when she heard a heavy British accent, "That's it, love. Open your eyes." Hayley's eyes were heavy-lidded but Klaus could see they were Hazel, "Hello, love. Let's get you out of here." Klaus helped her out of the cage then lifted her bridal style and carried her out. She tried to tell him, "There's others." Klaus barely heard her, "We got out who had survived." Hayley tiredly shook her head, "Other locations." Klaus understood that, "We'll take care of it, love."
Damon and Lee swiped all the vials of venom and files, while Kol grabbed the computer hard drives. Kol knew Nik and Elijah would want to find out everything. Everything was loaded up into the SUV to take back to Mystic Falls. Kol and Rebekah rode with Damon and Stefan on the way back to give Hayley room to stretch out. The wolf slept the whole way back, only waking when Nik insisted she have some of his blood to help heal her.
Watching over Hayley as she slept, Elijah and Klaus discussed what to do next. "First, I would like to create a few Hybrids. Then we'll take down the Triad and the Strix." Klaus says. He knows he doesn't need the hybrids but they were essentially about to go to war with their first sired. Elijah nodded then voiced, "It might be imperative if you ask to turn them instead of using force. We do not need hybrids revolting in the midst of a war." Niklaus hummed as he looked back at the sleeping She-Wolf, wondering if she would want to be a hybrid.
Klaus had taken Hayley to a guest room two doors from his room when they returned. Klaus had requested Rebekah to purchase some clothes for her and handed over his card. Rebekah never disappeared so fast in her life. Her brother actually wanted her to go shopping, even if it was for the wolf-girl. She had just left the first store when Rebekah bumped into Caroline.
Caroline, the ever-bubbly blonde, smiled at the Original, "Hi, Rebekah." "Hello," Rebekah couldn't help but smile. Caroline's happy demeanor seemed contagious. The young girl asked, "Shopping spree?" Rebekah observed several bags hanging from the girl's arms, "Yes. You?" Caroline nodded, "Oh yes, I'm only on hour two." "I just started. Still not accustomed to today's fashion but Nik sent me," Rebekah says. Then she's caught off guard when Caroline distributes her bags so she could loop her arm through Rebekah's, "Well, first off..." Rebekah was too stunned at the action to pull away. The two blondes spent several hours shopping and just having a good time. Rebekah can actually say she made a friend.
By the time Rebekah got back to Mikaelson Manor, both she and Hayley had a new wardrobe. Plus she made a friend in the young girl that has captured her ex-lovers heart and she's not even jealous. She could tell Caroline adored Stefan as much as he adored her. "I'm back!" Rebekah bellowed. Dropping the bags by the door before she starts separating hers from Hayley's then whooshed to Hayley's room. She knocked, then barged into the room without waiting for a response.
"Nik sent me to get you some clothes," Rebekah spoke to the newly awake Wolf-girl. "Umm, thanks. Where am I?" Hayley woke up in a very comfortable bed when the last thing she clearly remembered was enduring the pain of a broken jaw and her venom being extracted painfully. "Mystic Falls, Virginia. A friend of a friend called us after she saw wolves being taken by vampires in white coats," Rebekah summed up without going into too much detail. Hayley slowly climbed out of the bed and stood using the bed to support her upper body. Still feeling weak from the last few days Hayley wanted to stay in the nice, comfortable bed but she needed a shower.
"Bekah? Where'd you go?" Caroline yelled from downstairs. Rebekah stuck her head out into the hall, "Up here, Caroline." Soon, the young blonde found her way to Rebekah, "We have got to have a girls' night." "Sure, Caroline. Maybe this weekend?" Rebekah asked hopefully. "Perfect," Caroline came into the room and saw Hayley, "Oh, hello." Rebekah introduced the two girls to each other, "Caroline, this Hayley. Hayley...Caroline." Hayley nodded in greeting, "Hello."
Caroline put the pieces together, "Oh, some of the clothes were for Hayley. I was wondering why some of the outfits you picked out didn't seem to work with your complexion, now I know." Both Hayley and Rebekah couldn't help but giggle at Caroline. Of course, the blondes helped Hayley freshen up before Caroline had to leave. Klaus had come to check on Hayley and found his sister and young Caroline getting her settled. He offered to bring her dinner up to the room so she didn't have to climb the stairs until she recovered her strength. The Mikaelson siblings couldn't get over how attentive he was being to the She-Wolf. Normally, Klaus would have Elijah 'deal' with guests however, Klaus was truly intrigued by the woman who bore his child in the other timeline.
Klaus never thought about having children, even more so after becoming a vampire but Damon's memories showed him otherwise. He saw when Damon met Klaus' daughter, Hope, when she started attending the Salvatore Boarding School. The little girl stole his heart, and her mother was a strong, fiery woman. From what he saw of Damon's memories, Klaus and Hayley were not together in the future and he wondered what happened. He will have to ask Damon what he knows. The elder Salvatore has been trying to fix quite a lot on his own, hopefully he'll realize he has help.
Damon has been mapping out what should be taken care of next. He knows he should talk to Kol about Silas, Amara, and the Cure. The Amory needs to be emptied out. Cade, the Sirens, Prison Worlds. He rolled his eyes when he thought about having to deal with his Ripper of a Mother and her Heretics. The Five, Reyna Cruz, and everything she brings into the mix. The list goes on and on, and Damon feels like he's being pulled in too many directions at once. Maybe he should ask for help? No, this was his burden to bear and he will succeed. Damon slammed the rest of his drink before going to bed, dreading the next day where everything is waiting for him. Only he forgot that his younger brother, Stefan, was there to help as well as the Mikaelsons.
Damon is not alone in this fight, and he will see that. But only if he admits he can't do everything by himself.
