2009/2010

Damon sat at the bar and watched Ben serve drinks to the other patrons. He had noticed Ben came in after the sun went down which means he is a vampire. Anna must have turned him after the night of the Comet. Sheila had destroyed the crystal shortly after Damon gave it to her. Damon scanned the bar looking for a particular vampire but found Noah instead. He remembers Noah was the one who attacked Elena because she looks like Katherine and "it was fun." But Damon could see Noah was eyeing a certain bubbly blonde next to the Doppelganger. Well, that won't do.

When Caroline left the Grill Noah followed her. Damon threw some money on the bar and left to find Caroline. He made it a few feet outside when he heard someone struggling in the alley next to the Grill. Noah had dragged Caroline to the darkened alley's lower level and had her against the wall with his fangs buried in her neck. Damon whooshed and knocked Noah away from Caroline. Noah hissed at the elder Salvatore and disappeared.

Damon turned his attention to Caroline and her bleeding neck. He used one hand to put pressure on it and the other to pull out his phone to call the sheriff. Damon was going to give her some of his blood to heal her, but thought it would be suspicious. This way he could get on the council, making it easier to control certain things that he can. "Caroline? What's your mom's phone number?" Damon tried to ask the young girl but she was hysterically crying and freaking out. So, Damon had to speak louder, "Caroline! We need to call your mom." Caroline was crying so hard she could barely breathe, but managed to pull her phone out of her bag and hand it to Damon. He dialed Liz's number under the contact 'Mom'. She picked up on the second ring, "Caroline, are you okay? You never call me while I'm at work." Damon shook his head at that, "Sheriff, it's Damon Salvatore." "Damon. Why do you have my daughter's phone?" Liz is now concerned. "She was attacked. Sheriff, she was bitten," Damon hoped she would understand without him going into detail. "Is she..." Liz stammered.

"Alive but her neck was practically torn open. I chased the guy off. We're in the alley next to the Grill," Damon could hear the Sheriff's sirens over the phone and outside. "I'll be right there. Please...Just stay with her," Liz said over the phone. Then he heard her under her breath, "I should have told her already." Damon didn't say what he was thinking, he knew part of why the kids of this town were in danger was because they didn't know about it.

Damon hung up the phone when he saw the siren lights flashing and two doors slam. Caroline had stopped crying, was pale and shaking from the blood loss. She was still conscious when Liz appeared next to her, "Oh god. Honey, I'm here." "Mom. He bit me. Why did he bite?" Caroline's voice croaked. Liz sighed as she grabbed gauze to help put pressure on the wound after Damon moved his hand, "I'll tell you everything after we get you patched up." EMS showed up then and got Caroline on the gurney. Liz turned to Damon, "Thank you. I'll be in touch. Thank you." Damon nodded and watched her leave before licking his hand, he couldn't help it. He was surprised by how much control he had. Now, he has a vampire to chase down.

Damon had lost track of Noah but he knew he'll see him again. Noah was still stalking Elena so it was a matter of time. Stefan had kept an eye on Elena without her knowing because Damon had told him what happened to Caroline. Stefan noticed Caroline had missed a few days of school and when she came back she still had bruising on her neck from the bite. Sheriff Liz, Mr. and Mrs. Lockwood, and Logan Fell agreed to invite Damon to the council after Damon explained he knew about vampires.

The council was clueless about the Salvatore brothers being vampires and Damon thought it was the funniest thing in the world. Stefan had asked, "Why are you bothering with the council?" Damon shrugged, "It gave us an edge last time. This time though will be different. For one, the kids will be in the know. So, no blindly inviting people into their homes anymore. And they're all on Vervain. I gave the Sheriff quite a bit of it and told her to mix it with coffee every morning." Stefan nodded along, he still wasn't sure that was a good idea but his brother had lived through this already and knows what needs to change.

Turns out Ben had killed William Tanner. Nobody really liked the guy but still. Damon couldn't help but smile knowing his drinking buddy will be in town soon. Alaric never found out who the vampire was that 'attacked' his wife, he did trace her family back to Mystic Falls. Plus, Isobel's research on Folklore had concentrated on Mystic Falls. A week later, Alaric Saltzman took the position as the new history teacher at Mystic Falls High. Stefan informed his brother of the bad feeling he got from Ric, thinking he might be a threat. Damon knew better.

The 50s dance was happening that night. Elena, Caroline, and Bonnie were getting ready at the Gilbert household. "Elena, are you sure Stefan is going with you to the dance? He didn't seem that interested in it," Caroline asked as she painted her nails. Elena scoffed, "Of course, he's taking me. I just have to meet him there." Both Bonnie and Caroline rolled their eyes at her. They knew she was lying. Bonnie cleared her throat, "Well, Tyler will be here to pick up me and Caroline. You can just ride with us." Elena sneered at Bonnie, "Why is Tyler coming to get you?" "Because the three of us are going together as friends. His date left town," Bonnie bit back. Caroline and Bonnie were getting tired of Elena's attitude.

Damon and Stefan were walking around the dance floor keeping an eye out for Noah. The vampire was seen stalking Elena earlier in the day so Damon made it a point to be at the dance. The Salvatore brothers watched as Caroline strolled up to them. She knew about the supernatural now, she just didn't know Stefan and Damon were vampires as well. "Would either of you like to dance?" Caroline asked shyly. She was used to being the last choice after Elena. Stefan answered, "I would love to, Caroline." Damon stayed on the outer ring of the dance floor hoping to see Noah.

Several songs later, Damon watched as Elena practically ran out of the gym on her phone. He knew Noah had told her to leave or her brother was going to die. Damon looked at Stefan and spoke knowing he would hear, "Noah's on the move. Cafeteria." Stefan nodded and excused himself from Caroline. But the girl was too curious and followed him.

By the time Damon and Stefan reached the cafeteria, Elena had stabbed Noah with a pencil and was breaking a mop handle over her knee. Stefan whooshed in to take the makeshift stake from Elena to kill Noah. Damon had pinned Noah to the floor when the doors opened and Caroline walked in, "That's the creep who bit me. He ruined my favorite top!" The distraction is all Noah needed to squirm his way out of underneath Damon and try to attack Elena again. Stefan was faster though, Noah was in the heart through his back. His body desiccated and fell to the floor.

Caroline was speechless for a moment, then, "Are you two vampires?!" Damon sighed, "Bad timing blondie." "Hey! I have a name, you know," Caroline crossed her arms. Stefan pinched the bridge of his nose, "Can we please talk about this after we dispose of the dead vampire?" Stefan picked up Noah's corpse and whooshed out of the school.

Damon stayed behind with Caroline and Elena. He watched Caroline's expression go from irritated to angry and a bit betrayed as she faced Elena, "You knew. You knew about them, and you didn't think to tell me?!" Elena rolled her eyes, "I didn't want you to know." Caroline scoffed, "Why? So the attention would be only on you?" Elena's silence was Caroline's answer. "Unbelievable. Everyone else doesn't matter as long as you get what you want," Caroline put her hands on his hips. "That's not true. I would have told you eventually," Elena says. "Oh yeah, when? After one of us had died?" Caroline was getting frustrated with her so-called friend. Elena stomped her foot like a toddler, "Caroline! This is not about you. This is about me being attacked!" Caroline was fed up with Elena and walked away, not wanting to give Elena any more attention.

Damon sighed again, "You should go home. And stop inviting people into your home. Stefan and I won't always be around to rescue you." Damon spotted Anna leaving the school. He went to the hotel room he knew she was staying at and waited for her to return. Anna walked in and saw Damon lounging on a bed, "Evening Annabelle. How long has it been, 145 years give or take?" Anna crossed her arms, "Salvatore. What are you doing here?" Damon stood up and was in front of Anna, "I'm here to tell you to leave town and never come back." Anna snickered, "No. I'm here to open the tomb, just like you are. You want to rescue Katherine. I want to get my mother." Damon smiled cruelly, "Katherine was never in the tomb. I don't care about the bitch or her carbon copy." Anna's smile dropped, she had planned to use Elena as bait to get the Salvatores to work with her.

Anna regained her composure, "I'm still going to open the tomb and get my mother. Whether you help or not." Damon quickly wrapped his hands around Anna's throat, shoving her into the wall behind her, "I will not help you. Leave or I will rip your heart out the next time I see you." Damon whooshed out of the room before Anna could retaliate. He went to the Bennett household to warn Sheila before going home. She was thankful for the warning and promised to sit Bonnie down and explain everything.

Damon was making himself a cup of coffee mixed with Vervain when he was tackled. The perpetrator pinned Damon in a chokehold on the floor, "Long time, mate." Damon coughed out, "Enzo?" The chokehold was released and Enzo helped Damon stand up, "You should pay attention to your surroundings, mate." Damon rubbed his healing neck, "Yeah yeah. What brings you to Mystic Falls?" Enzo lifted an eyebrow, "Rumors are flying about a human Doppelganger. It won't be long before others ascend on the town."

"Shit! The timeline is speeding up. Okay, I'll keep a better eye on things," Damon picked up his coffee. The first swallow always burned the most causing him to cough. Enzo poured his own cup, his tolerance of Vervain is a little higher than his friends so he didn't cough as hard. Stefan had his cup earlier in the day. Damon had mixed in a few drops of human blood into Stefan's cup to help his brother with the Ripper. So far things are going well, especially since he is not dating Elena.

The Doppelganger has not given up on trying to get either of the Salvatore brothers. She no longer has the same friends. Caroline and Bonnie have drifted away from her after the 50s dance. Bonnie's grandmother was teaching her about their family's magic so Bonnie can defend herself. Caroline had taken to drinking Vervain everyday and even mixed it in her perfume. Once her mom told her vampires were real, Caroline made sure she paid more attention to things around here. Then she really started paying attention after learning Damon and Stefan were also vampires.

So, here Elena was at school watching Caroline and Bonnie talk to Stefan and she grew jealous of her old friends. She was thinking she would need to get Stefan's attention away from them but didn't know how. The answer came in the form of her brother's new friend, Anna Zhu. Well, Anna took Elena captive thinking Damon was lying to her about how he felt about the Doppelganger. When Damon or Stefan didn't show up to work with her to open the tomb, Anna and Ben kidnapped Bonnie.

Sheila had no choice but to open the tomb to get Bonnie back and safe. Damon showed up to the tomb as they were opening it. Anna had already gone into the tomb. Ben held onto Bonnie and was going to drag her in. But Damon snatched her out of his arms and pushed Ben over the threshold, trapping the vampires inside. Ben tried to walk back out but was stopped by the barrier spell. Anna had her mother in her arms, "What's happening?!" Damon was on the other side of the opening, "They just opened the door, but it's just sealed. Vampires can go in but they can't come back out. Nighty night." Damon pushed the heavy door shut, listening to Anna Ben pleading for them not to be locked in. Damon was able to relax knowing Sheila was alive.

Too bad Fate had other plans. Sheila Bennett had a fatal heart attack later that year. Bonnie was devastated by her grandmother's death. She went to live with her father, Rudy. She never blamed Damon or Stefan since the cause of death was natural.

Around this time in the last timeline, Damon was cleaning up after his Ripper brother. This time Stefan was gaining control of the Ripper...slowly. The Miss Mystic Falls competition came and went, Caroline won. Stefan and Damon went as "fill-ins" in case other escorts didn't show up. Caroline's escort didn't show up so Damon filled-in. Elena had locked her escort in an actual broom closet so Stefan had no choice but to fill-in. When Damon was dancing with Caroline he could feel Elena's eyes on them in jealousy. Stefan rolled his several times during their dance, he couldn't get away from her fast enough when it was over.

Without the tomb vampires causing trouble, things were quiet for a while. However, Isobel, John Gilbert, and Katherine Pierce finally came into town before the Founder's Parade. Isobel and John threw a fit when they found out the tomb vampires were still locked inside along with the Gilbert device. Jenna and Jeremy are aware of everything which pissed off Elena and John for different reasons. John thought if they knew they would get hurt. Elena felt she should be the only one who knew, it made her special. Since John was in town now, Jenna and Jeremy moved closer to her college campus. Damon may have hinted at the town's history of "animal attacks" and how the town wasn't safe anymore. Elena refused to leave so now John lives with her.

The Parade went off without a hitch. Richard Lockwood still died that night, he had a freak accident which broke his neck. Tyler, Matt, and Caroline never had to leave in a hurry, Caroline was not hospitalized. Katherine had shown up and stolen Elena's dress and tried to pose as her human counterpart. Didn't work though. Nobody was home at the Gilbert residence. When she turned around to leave the porch a hand was shoved into her chest gripping her heart, "Hello, Katherine." Damon yanked his hand away pulling her heart in the process, "Goodbye, Katherine." Damon picked up her body and whooshed to a clearing near the quarry and burned her body. He scooped up the ashes and threw them into the water below, washing them away.
