Stealing/Commandeering A Ship!
The next morning Captain Jack was trying to pick the lock of his cell with an old bone than he had whittled down with his dagger. He was failing miserably and began to mutter swears to himself.
"C'mon... bloody damn..." he said to himself "son of a-"
"It's pretty hard to sleep when you keep rattling around that bone and talking to yourself!" Aggie told him with her eyes still closed.
"Well in case you didn't notice, missy" Jack snapped "I'm due for an appointment with the hangman's noose in a couple of hours!"
"And in case you didn't notice this is probably the only time I'll ever get to sleep in" Aggie argued "so deal with it!"
Jack glared, took the bone out of the lock and threw it at her.
"OW!" Aggie yelled "That bone just hit my head!"
"Deal with it" Jack said mockingly.
"That's it!" Aggie said "I'm leaving! And to think I was fascinated by you!"
She stomped up the stairs, but when she got to the door it swung open and hit her in the nose.
Will Turner looked behind the door and helped her up.
"Aggie, are you alright?" Will asked "I'm sorry! I had no idea you were there! What are you doing here?"
"Last night when the pirates came, it was too dangerous to walk back to the orphanage!" Aggie explained "So I stayed here with Jack the bone-thrower over there!"
"I thought his name was Sparrow?" Will asked her.
Aggie sighed. Will was a good friend for the most part, but he was also pretty dense in the head too.
Will continued down the steps and stood in frount of Jack's cell.
"You! Sparrow!" Will asked demandingly.
"Or bone-thrower!" Aggie said.
"Or bone-thrower..." Will rolled his eyes.
"Eh?" Jack asked.
"You're familiar with that ship the Black Pearl?" Will asked him.
"I've heard of it" Jack said, inspecting his dirty fingernails.
"Where does it make berth?" Will demanded.
"Where does it make berth?" Jack echoed "have you not heard the stories?"
Will and I stared back blankly.
Jack sighed "Captain Barbossa and his crew of miscreants sail for the dreaded Isle de Merta. It's an island that cannot be found except by those who know where it is."
"The ships real enough therefore it's anchorage must be a real place" said Will "Where is it?"
"Why ask me?" Jack asked.
"You're the pirate" Aggie said, getting tired of the conversation. "And you kept talking about the Black Pearl!"
"So you two want to turn pirate yourself, is that it?" Jack asked them.
"Eww!" Aggie said.
"Never!" Will told him.
There was a short pause before Will admitted the reason he was there.
"They took Miss Swann" he said.
"What?!" Aggie panicked.
"Oh! So it is that you found a girl!" Jack said to Will "Well, if you're risking to brave all and so win fair lady's heart, you'll have to do it alone, son. I see no profit in it for me."
"I can get you out of here!" Will said.
"Not a chance" Aggie said "Scrapper has left the building!"
"True, but remember I helped build these cell's" Will reminded her, grabbing a bench and proping it up near Jack's cell. "These are half pin barrel hinges, with the proper leverage and the proper application of strength, the door will lift free!"
"What's your name, boy?" Jack asked him.
"Will Turner" he answered.
"That be short for William, I'd imagine?" Jack said "good strong name... no doubt the name of your father, eh?"
A curious look came over Will's face. "Yes" he answered.
"Uh-huh" Jack said "Well, Mr. Turner and Miss Eggie-"
"Aggie!" Aggie corrected him.
"Guzuntite" Jack said.
Aggie scowled.
"- I've changed me mind if you spring me from this cell I swear on pain of death, I will take you to the Black Pearl and your bonny lass. Do we have an accord?" He stuck his hand through the bars.
Will shook it. "Agreed" he said.
"Agreed" Jack said "get me out!"
Will lifted the cell door off it's hinges and it clanged to the floor.
"Hurry, someone would have heard that!" Will warned.
"Not without my effects!" Jack said, grabbing his pistol and sword.
☠💀☠
The Pirate and the Blacksmith trudged through the water under a bridge near the harbor. Will noticed Jack eyeing the ship's in the harbor.
"We're gonna steal a ship?" Will asked, following his gaze to the Dauntless. "That ship?"
"Commandeer" Jack corrected "We're gonna Commandeer that ship, nautical term."
"There's no way we'll be able to get that ship out of the harbor!" Aggie said.
The two men jumped and spun around to see her behind them.
"Aggie, I thought I told you to go back to the orphanage!" Will told her.
"You tell me to do lot's of things" Aggie said "most of which I never do! So which ship are we stealing?"
"Commandeer!" Jack told her "and what's all this we stuff? This search and rescue mission is dangerous, we can't have a little minx like you running around! So run along before you give me lice!"
"I'm pretty sure you have worse things to worry about than lice" Aggie quipped "besides I need to get out of Port Royal before I lose my mind and you guys need all the help you can get! So help me help you!"
"Listen Gaggie-" Jack told her strictly.
"Aggie!" She corrected.
Jack rolled his eyes. "-What possible help could you be to us?" He asked her "Ye don't even look like you have your sea legs yet!"
"But-" Aggie started.
"No buts! Just be a good little girl and get your butt back to wherever you came from!" Jack told her.
Aggie thought about it, then smirked and shrugged.
"Okay!" She said, turning back towards town.
"Good" Jack nodded, turning back towards the ship.
"While I'm going I'll be sure to let Norrington know all about your brilliant plan to steal his ship!" Aggie told them as she walked away.
"You wouldn't!" Jack and Will said in unison.
"Of course I would!" Aggie grinned "Jack told me to be a good little girl and good little girl's always tell the truth and report trouble to an authority figure!"
"She's bluffing!" Jack told Will confidently.
Little did Jack know Aggie loved a challenge!
She walked out from under the bridge and cupped her hands over her mouth and hollered:
"Hey! Mr. Norrington!"
Jack's breath hitched and Will gasped.
Norrington, who was standing on a dock on the other side of the bridge, looked over at Aggie. "What is it, Miss Agatha?" Norrington called back.
Aggie looked at Jack and Will under the bridge. Will had his hands in a praying position, begging her not to tell and Jack had a finger to his lips, warning her to keep quiet.
Aggie smirked at them. "Is that a new suit?" She asked the Commodore.
Jack and Will breathed a sigh of relief.
"On your way, Miss Agatha!" Norrington called to her.
"Yes, sir!" Aggie called back and walked back under the bridge.
"So" she said, eyeing Jack "now that we all know I'm definitely not lying..."
"Fine" Jack told her reluctantly "You can come, you little loud mouth..."
"What's that, Captain?" Aggie asked "I should ask Norrington to get us some supplies too?"
"C'mon, Aggie!" Jack told her walking ahead.
"Aw!" Aggie fake-gushed "You got my name right!"
Jack growled.
"I think he's warming up to me!" Aggie whispered to Will.
The next part of Jack's oh-so-brilliant plan involved the three of them walking along the sea floor with a fishing canoe over their heads for air. Aggie was too short for this part, so she hung onto Will's back like a baby koala bear with it's mother.
"This is either madness or brilliance!" Will told Jack.
"Probably both" Aggie giggled, enjoying the piggy-back ride.
"The kid is right!" Jack agreed "It's remarkable how often those two traits coincide."
Will suddenly stepped in a lobster trap getting his foot stuck. He had no choice but to keep walking with it on his foot. Today just wasn't his day!
Aggie then asked "can I sing a song till we get to the Dauntless?"
"No" Jack said annoyed.
Aggie suddenly began to sing loudly."Row, row, row your boat! Gently under the sea! Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily! It's a pirate's life for me!" She sang.
Jack cringed "Okay, now no more singin-"
"Row, row, row your boat! Gently under the sea!" Aggie started up again.
Jack and Will groaned.
They finally made it to the Dauntless, Will and Jack suprisingly still had half their hearing, their sanity was another story! They climbed aboard and approached the guards.
"Everyone stay calm! We're taking over the ship!" Jack announced.
"Aye! Avast!" Will yelled trying to be scary. But even young Aggie could see he had failing miserably.
The guards all laughed at the three of them.
Jack and Aggie glared over at Will.
Will seemed to be oblivous to how stupid he just made them look.
"This ship cannot be crewed by two men and a child!" Gillette sneered "You'll never make it out of the bay!"
"Son" Jack pointed his pistol in between Gillette's eyes. "I'm Captain Jack Sparrow, Savvy?"
Jack handed his pistol to Aggie. "Get them into the row boat, Luv" he grinned.
Aggie grinned and took the pistol, pointing it at the group of guards. "Alright boys, you heard him, get your butts in the boat!" Aggie told them and don't think I don't know how to use one of these pistols cause trust me, I do!"
The guards must have took her word for it, because they went without fuss into the boat and began rowing away.
"You know they're gonna sound an alarm of some kind, right?" Aggie asked Jack.
"Of course" Jack said, grinning "that's what I'm hoping for!"
Pretty soon Norrington and his men hopped aboard the interceptor, a smaller and sleeker vessel and began sailing right for the Dauntless, which wasn't even out of the bay yet.
"Here they come" Will told Jack.
Jack simply smirked, while Aggie and Will looked at each other confused, after all Jack was a little light on the details of this plan. In fact they didn't even know if he had a plan or if he was just making it up as he went along?
The three of them hid as Norrington and his men hopped aboard the Dauntless. Then while they were distracted searching the Dauntless, Jack swung over to the Interceptor on a rope and Aggie swung over holding onto Will again.
Jack immediately began chopping the ropes the guards used to get across soon the Interceptor began to sail away with Captain Jack Sparrow, Will Turner and Aggie aboard.
Of course, Norrington and his men realized this too little and too late!
Jack waved his hat to Norrington from the helm of the Interceptor. Norrington glared at us from the Dauntless.
"Thank you, Commodore for getting us ready to make way!" Captain Jack yelled to him "We would have had a hard time with her by ourselves!"
Aggie joined in as well. "Good-bye Port Royal! Good-bye high class! This town can kiss my-" Will put a hand over her mouth before she could finish.
Soon the three were out on the open sea and away from Port Royal, Will started telling Jack his past as Aggie ran around the wheel of the ship, giggling non-stop.
"When I was a lad living in England, my mother raised me by herself, after she died I came out here... looking for my father..." Will told him.
"Is that so" Jack said, not paying attention.
"My father Bill Turner, at the jail it was only after I told you my name that you agreed to help" Will said observing "since that's what I wanted I didn't press the matter. I'm not a simpleton, Jack, you knew my father!"
Jack sighed and said "I knew him, probably one of the few that knew him as William Turner, everyone else just called him bootstrap or bootstrap Bill."
Will's face screwed up with confusion and Aggie stopped running and giggling.
"Bootstrap Bill?" She asked "sounds more like a pirate than a merchant sailor?"
"He was" Jack said simply "good man, good pirate." Jack turned to Will "I swear you look just like him."
"It's not true!" Will said "he was a merchant sailor! A good respectable man that obeyed the law!"
"He was a bloody pirate! A scallyway!" Jack told him.
"My father was not a pirate!" Will told Jack, unsheathing his sword.
Jack didn't even turn his head. "Put it away, son" he said calmly "it's not worth you getting beat again."
"You didn't beat me" Will said angrily "you ignored the rules of engagement, in a fair fight I would have killed you!"
"Then that's not incentive for me to fight fair than is it?" Jack told him.
He ducked and spun the wheel, a yard swung around and hit Will in the gut. When Aggie and Jack looked up Will was hanging by the yard over the open sea below.
"Now as long as your just hanging there, pay attenion" Jack said, picking Will's sword. "The only rules that really matter are these- what a man can do and what a man can't do?"
"What about girls?" Aggie questioned.
Jack ignored her and carried on. "For instance you can accept that your father was a pirate and a good man or you can't" he told Will "but pirate is in your blood, boy, so you'll have to square with that some day. Now me, for example, I can let you drown but I can't bring this ship into Tortuga all by me onesie with that little devil, Savvy?"
Aggie realized he was referring to her when he said litte devil. "Hey!" She protested.
Jack turned the wheel again and Will came fell back onto the deck.
"So..." Jack offered him his sword back "can you sail under the command of a pirate or can you not?"
Will took the sword and looked at him. "Tortuga?" He questioned.
"Tortuga" Jack confirmed, smirking.
"Tortuga!" Aggie cheered, continuing to run around the wheel and giggle.
Jack groaned. "She'll get tired out eventually, right?" He asked Will.
"Not usually" Will shook his head "but there's a first time for everything." He went back to working on the swords.
Jack approached Aggie and grabbed her by the collar of her shirt. Aggie continued to run in place.
"Tell ye what, Luv" he said "why don't we put those high energy levels of yours to good use!"
"Can I steer the ship?" Aggie asked.
"No, only the captain can steer the ship" he told her "besides you can't even see over the helm and what if-AHHHH!"
Aggie spun the wheel around and around like a toy. Jack fell to the deck and Will fell out of his seat, nearly getting skewered by the swords he was sharpening.
Jack managed to get to the wheel and got the ship back on course.
"Oooh! Do it again!" Aggie cheered.
"NO!" Will and Jack yelled.
It then became apparent that in order to keep Aggie out of trouble and themselves alive, Will and Jack had to Aggie something to keep her busy.
☠💀☠
Five minutes later, Jack put a bucket of some type of liquid in front of Aggie. She looked at it, scooped it up with her hand and drank some.
"This water is all salty!" She said.
"It's sea water, now take this mop and swab the deck!" Jack ordered, putting a mop in her hands.
"What's the magic word?" She asked, smirking.
"How the bleeding hell should I know?" He asked "Just do it!"
With that said Jack went back up to the helm.
Aggie, of course, wasn't going to swab the deck until Jack asked nicely, so she decided to explore the ship. She started with the Captain's Quarters where Jack was staying.
She looked around and eventually her eyes landed on an old yet familiar Teddy bear sitting on the desk. She picked it up and felt it's fur, she got this chilling feeling that she had seen this bear before. That she had brushed her fingers on it's ruff yet soft fur before. But she couldn't remember how...
At that moment Jack burst into the captain's quarters and found her holding the bear.
"What are you doing? Put that down!" He yelled, running over and snatching it away. "You don't touch this! Ye hear me? Don't you ever touch this again!!"
Aggie had never seen Jack that angry before, she had never seen anyone that angry before and it scared her. She gulped and tears formed in her brown eyes. Her lips folded into a pout as she raced from the room.
She ran past Will as she bolted away. "Aggie?" He asked as she ran away "What's wrong?"
Aggie didn't answer, she ran to the other end of the ship and sat behind some barrels, sobbing.
Will marched up to Jack, who was placing the teddy bear carefully back on the desk.
"What did you do to her?" He asked him forcefully.
"She was touching a personal item of mine" Jack said "she had no right!"
"She's a child!" Will yelled.
"That's no excuse!" Jack yelled back.
"She didn't know any better!" Will shouted "Is that what being a pirate is all about to you? Making six year olds cry? Do you any experience with children? Probably not! But Aggie grew up in an orphanage, she has no experience with parental authority! Why don't you try to help her? It may be good for both of you!"
Will slammed the door on his way out.
Jack stared at the teddy bear on the desk. He didn't want anyone to touch it or look at it. It was Maggie's and if she was alive he wanted her to have it, no one else. For five years he carried that bear with him, it was a constant reminder of his baby girl, it was a constant reminder that she may still be out there looking for him. Jack had given up on lots of things in life, but the one thing he would never give up on was his Maggie.
But Jack knew it wasn't that little girl's fault that Maggie was gone. What he said he said out of anger and emotional pain. And, as much as he hated to admit it, Will was right. Jack had lost a daughter and Aggie had lost her parent's, maybe they could help each other.
AN: There ya have it 3137 words! No joke! How will Aggie react to Tortuga? Find out in the next chapter!
