When The Captain's Away...
💀Maggie Sparrow in Picture💀
Two years have passed since the Curse of the Black Pearl was lifted. The young orphan girl from Port Royal that was once known as Aggie is now known around the Caribbean as Maggie Sparrow, daughter of Captain Jack Sparrow. Maggie is now a professional sailor and is learning the tricks of the trade of being a pirate. But now, even as she nears her eighth birthday, she still acts her age... or younger.
Tonight was a perfect example of that. Captain Jack had been away all day in a Turkish Prison claiming he had to retrieve an object of fortune. It was now ten-thirty P.M and the crew hadn't seen any sign of him, some of the crew were starting to worry. Young Maggie, on the other hand, was partying in Captain Jack's cabin, hoping he would stay even longer in that Turkish prison. As they say on the Black Pearl: When the Captain's away, Maggie will play!
Not only had Maggie managed to pick the lock on the cabin door using a hair pin, but she had also managed to trash the cabin. Some of Maggie's toys layed on the floor of the cabin, map's and charts were unrolled and tossed about and Maggie was seated on her father's bed with Jack the Monkey on her lap. The crew couldn't figure out how that monkey survived the battle of the Isla de Meurta and personally they didn't really care. Captain Jack just wished it would die when he shot at it, but the undead skeletal curse was still upon the tiny creature.
Maggie was now trying to pop open a bottle of rum from Jack's private supply, she had yet to get so much as a taste of the drink her father so much desired. Jack had told her rum was for grown-up's and teenagers that lied about their age and since Maggie had already lied to all the tavern keepers in Tortuga, she had no choice but to drink her father's rum.
Maggie was trying to pry the cork off the bottle with her teeth -which seemed much easier when Jack did it- when she heard her father's voice on deck.
"Not quite according to plan" Mr. Gibbs said.
"Complications arose, ensued, were overcome" Jack stated, climbing aboard.
Maggie crouched down on the other side of the door and eavesdropped in on their conversation.
"You got what you went in for then?" Gibbs asked.
Jack waved a piece of ragged cloth around as he was greeted by the rest of the crew. Each sailor had their own displeased or disappointed look. They didn't look threatening, but they didn't look very friendly either...
"Cap'n, I think the crew -meaning me as well- were expecting something a bit more... shiny?" Gibbs explained "What with the Isla de Meurta going all pear-shaped, reclaimed by the sea and the treasure with it-"
"And the Royal Navy chasing us all around the Atlantic-" A sailor called Leech said, displeased.
"And the hurricane!" added Marty.
The rest of the crew nodded in agreement.
"All in all, it's been some time since we've done a spec of honest pirating" Mr. Gibbs said, suggestively.
"Shiny?" Jack asked him.
"Aye, shiny!" Gibbs confirmed.
"Is that how you're all feeling then?" Jack questioned his crew "That perhaps dear ol' Jack is not serving your best interest as captain?"
They stood in an awkward silence until Mr. Cotton's parrot read everyone's minds and squawked it out for everyone to hear.
"Walk the plank!" The colorful Macaw said.
Jack wiped out his pistol and aimed it at the parrot. "What did the bird say?" Jack asked loudly.
"Do not blame the bird" Leech said "Show us what is on that piece of cloth there."
Jack held up the piece of cloth, considering what to say next. Almost instantly Jack the Monkey swung down from the rigging and snatched the cloth from Captain Jack. Jack tried to shoot the annoying little primate, but he was out of bullets. As the creature tried to hop away, Captain Jack grabbed Leech's pistol instead and shot at the monkey, this time hitting it and causing it to drop the cloth. However the cursed creature scurried off, not even harmed.
"Ye know that won't do no good" Gibbs told him.
"It does me!" Jack said as Marty picked up the cloth that the monkey had dropped.
"It's a key!" Marty exclaimed.
"No! Much more better!" Jack said, rushing over and holding the cloth up. "It is a drawing of key!"
The crew stared at the drawing of the key confused.
"Gentleman, what do key's do?" Jack asked, sensing their confusion.
"Key's unlock things?" Leech guessed.
"And whatever this key unlocks, inside is something valuable!" Gibbs said "so we're setting out to find whatever this key unlocks!"
Inside the cabin Maggie rolled her eyes. The crew's stating the obvious as usual... Maggie thought.
"No!" Jack told them "if we don't have the key, we can't open whatever it is that we don't have that it unlocks. So what purpose would be served in finding whatever need be unlocked, which we don't have, without first finding the key what unlocks it?"
"So we're going after this key!" Gibbs said.
"You're not making any sense at all, mate" Jack told him.
Maggie rolled her eyes again. No wonder the crew's so dumb! She thought Dad keeps confusing them!
"Any more questions?" Jack asked the crew.
"So... do we have a heading?" Marty asked.
"Ah! A heading!" Jack pulled out his compass "set sail in a... general" he stared at the compass confused and pointed all around. "... that way direction!"
"Cap'n?" Gibbs questioned.
"C'mon! Snap to and make sail! You know how this works..." he began walking toward his cabin.
Maggie gasped. She knew her father would have a fit at the state of his cabin and he wasn't going to be any happier when figured out she was up past her bedtime. She had to hide, but where?
Captain Jack walked into his cabin and saw the mess. And even though he was slightly surprised at how much damage one little girl could do, he knew she was still in the room and where she was hiding. He had developed a fatherly instinct over the past few years and he knew Maggie like the back of his hand... or so he thought.
"I know you're in here, Maggie..." he said, shutting the door behind him. "Come out now and your punishment won't be as severe as it should be."
Maggie remained in her hiding spot under the bed, there was no way her father could know where she was. He was good, but he wasn't that good!
When Maggie didn't come out, Jack decided to play along in his little girl's game.
"Hmmm..." he drawled "maybe she went to her own room..."
He walked to the cabin door, opened it and slammed it shut again, making her think he had left the cabin.
Maggie slowly crept out from under the bed, thinking she was off scot free. But she realized how wrong she was when she felt a pair of strong arms lift her up and toss her on the bed.
"And what are you doing up past your bedtime, young lassie?" Jack asked her sternly.
"I wanted to wait up for you... to make sure you were alright?" She said, batting her eyelashes.
"Are you lying?" Her father asked.
"No..." Maggie said.
"I'll give you the test then" Jack grinned "if you can look me in the eye and repeat to me what you just said truthfully without smiling I will believe you."
"Fine" Maggie said as her father came to face level with her, looking her dead in the eye.
"I was waiting up for you to make sure you were-EKKKK" Maggie sqeauled as her father tickled her.
"Ha! You're lying!" He told her.
"You cheated!" Maggie protested, pushing his hands away.
"I'm a pirate, Luv!" Her father told her "you've really got to stop expecting me to play by the rules! Now get to bed!"
"Can I hear a story first?" Maggie asked.
"No, it's eleven" He told her.
"Please..." Maggie pleaded, making her eyes huge and teary.
"Don't give me the sad guppy eyes!" Jack told her.
"Please Daddy..." Maggie begged with her lips pouted and quivering.
Jack tried to look away, but she had him locked in with her sad expression.
"Fine!" He said, dramatically "I'll tell you a story! Just stop making those sad eyes! They're burning a hole in my heart!"
"Are you done?" Maggie asked him.
"Aye" Jack answered "Now which story do you want to hear?"
"The story of you and mum!" Maggie said.
"Luv, I tell you that one all the time" He said "I have lots of other adventures I could tell you?"
"But you said mum was your greatest adventure?" Maggie reminded him.
"And she was" Jack told her "And my greatest adventure gave me my greatest treasure." He kissed Maggie's forehead.
"Please..." Maggie said.
"Fine" he said "Once, not that long ago, there was a great pirate, the greatest pirate ever. He was so handsome that he was greatly desired by women everywhere he went..."
Maggie giggled.
"It's true!" Jack told her.
"Oh yeah, women just throw themselves at you all the time!" Maggie said sarcastically.
"Anyway, he was called Captain Jack Sparrow and little did he know that he would break thousands of hearts the day he came to the beach and met her. Her beauty was indescribable, she was a vision, an angel, a rare rose in a flower bed of weeds."
"And her name was Morgan!" Maggie said.
"Exactly and before I... I mean Captain Jack knew what he was doing he was walking up to her. He didn't know what to say or do, his mind was blank and his tongue was tied in knots. Which was amazing because he had that same effect on women, but now the tables had turned. He was so star struck by her beauty that he didn't notice that a coconut was falling from a nearby tree. It hit him on the head and he passed out."
"What a stud" Maggie smiled and rolled her eyes.
Jack gave her a warning look before continuing. "But he knew it was fate because when he came to, there was Morgan, holding a cold wet cloth to his forehead. A few months of dating later, Morgan was pregnant with child and nine months later she gave birth to Captain Jack's greatest treasure. They finally had a beautiful baby girl and Morgan knew she had to name her after her favorite flower: Magnolia. But Captain Jack forgot her favorite flower was actually a rose when he had wrote Magnolia on the birth certificate. So they ended up nicknaming her Maggie..."
Maggie grinned.
"...Who should've been in bed three hours ago" Jack told her "Now off ye get to your cabin."
Maggie frowned, but began walking to her cabin.
"You forgot something!" Jack called after her.
"Oh right!" Maggie said, walking back over to her father.
Jack leaned down to her height for a goodnight kiss.
"My rum!" She picked up the unopened bottle she was trying to drink from when her father returned.
"The rum?" He asked her "Did the rum change your diapers? Did the rum feed and clothe you all these years?"
"I'm kidding!" She said, kissing his cheek.
"Good-night" he told her as she walked out of the room. "Oh! And Maggie?"
"Yeah?" She said, not turning around.
"Leave the bottle" Jack said.
Maggie growled and put the bottle of rum on his desk and went to bed.
