We're Gonna Need A Bigger Boat!
As the sun finished rising over the Dying Gull, Carina was busy jotting down calculations in her diary. While the crew gathered around her, waiting for any sort of heading to their location. Maggie wasn't sure of what to make Carina, was she really a witch or did she just have an attitude of one? Could she really find the Trident or was she just buying time so the pirates didn't kill her? Maggie had to admit the girl was clever, anyone who could disarm her father in a conversation of wits had to be.
"So she's saying she's got the map, but she's the only one who can follow it?" Mr. Gibbs asked, confused.
"So we should shoot her?" Cremble asked, taking his pistol out of it holster.
"Leave her be" Henry told them. "She will take us to the Trident."
"You've been saying that for hours" Mr. Gibbs sighed.
"Two things we know are true, eh?" Scrum pointed up. "Stars don't shine by day... and she forgot the donkey."
Carina closed her eyes, sighing softly in exasperation.
"How can we go to a spot where no land exists on any map?" Mr. Gibbs asked Captain Jack.
Carina turned to them and held up the instrument she had been using.
"This chronometer keeps the exact time in London" she explained. "I'm using it to make an altitude measurement to determine longitude. Only then will we find our exact spot at sea."
Captain Jack, the crew and even Maggie stared at her in confusion. They had seen her mouth moving, they had heard words come out of it, yet they had no clue what she just said.
"So you expect to find the Trident with a timepiece?" Cremble asked.
""Yes" Carina nodded. "My calculations are precise and true. I'm not only an astronomer, I'm also a horologist."
The crew gasped as Jack places his hands over young Maggie's ears. Some of them look shocked and others look far more interested. Carina looks surprised as she gets a lot of stares from the pirates, who try to be polite.
"No shame in that, dear" Jack assured her. "I mean, we all have to earn a living, eh?"
"Oh, yeah" Mr. Gibbs nodded.
"She looks like a whore-ologist too" Maggie said aloud.
"Maggie!" Jack scolded.
Carina's face turned pink as she realizes what they're all thinking. "No. No, I'm a horo-logist!" She told them.
"So was my mum" Scrum admitted. "But she didn't crow about it as loud as you."
"Are you saying your mother was academically inclined?" Carina scoffed.
Jack smirked "More like horizontally... reclined."
"Horology is the study of time!" Carina told them, holding up the chronometer.
'And she was always looking at her watch!" Scrum nodded.
"I can vouch for that!" Marty agreed.
Everyone turned and stared at him in shocked confusion.
"So no one can find the 'X' but you, right?" Jack clarified.
"No" Carina answered.
"And the donkey?" Scrum asked.
"Ship to the aft!" Mr. Gibbs shouted.
"Gibbs, we're right here!" Maggie told him, fiddling with her now ringing ear.
Henry followed Mr. Gibbs gaze. "Salazar" he gulped. "Jack, the dead will not rest until they get their revenge!"
"Dead?" Mr. Gibbs looked at Jack shocked. "No, no. The dead were never part of this deal!"
"We never should have followed a luckless pirate and a witch to the sea!" Pike told them
"Right, that's it. Kill 'em all!" Bollard announced as withdrew his pistol and pointed it at Jack's head. The crew follows suit, pointing weapons at Maggie, Henry and Carina as well.
Captain Jack backed away towards Henry and Carina.
"Go ahead and kill us!" Maggie dared them. "And when you're done be sure and tell the dead all about how you killed they're pret before they could. That way you'll be next on the list of people to die today."
"That's right!" Jack nodded and smiled. "Because then the dead won't have a chance to get their revenge on me, being dead!"
"Which will anger them even more" Henry saw their reasoning. "He's right."
"That's right" Jack muttered.
"We're right!" Maggie said.
"Are all pirates this stupid?" Carina asked them.
"Yes" Jack nodded.
"Yeah" the crew admitted.
"Only the males..." Maggie answered.
"What are we going to do?" Mr. Gibbs asked desperately as the dead were getting closer.
"As captain" Jack announced. "Might I suggest..."
☠💀☠
"Mutiny?!" Carina said to Jack. "You had to suggest a mutiny!"
"Carina, the dead are coming!" Henry warned her.
"Ghosts?" Carina scoffed. "You're all afraid of ghosts?"
"Yes" Jack answered "And lizards... and Quakers."
"And anything with the word inoculation in it!" Maggie nodded. "That's never good!"
Carina shook her head. "Well, I choose not to believe in supernatural nonsense" she said, standing by her belief of science.
"Do you not see what's behind us?" Henry huffed from rowing.
Carina and Maggie turned to glance back at the Silent Mary, which was quickly gaining on them. The wretched ghost ship definitely looked like it had seen better days. Her haul was gutted, like a fish with it's rib cage sticking out. Captain Jack refused to even look back at it.
Suddenly, Carina stood up in the boat and began unbuttoning her dress in front of everyone.
"What are you doing?" Henry asked, shocked.
"The men on that ship are looking for Jack and Jack is on this boat, so I'm going to swim for it" Carina told him.
Captain Jack's jaw dropped "How dare you do exactly what I would do if I were you!"
"Yeah!" Maggie agreed. "And how dare you do exactly what Daddy would do if he were you, before I had a chance to do it before him!"
"What?" Jack asked.
"Carina!" Henry tried to avert his eyes as she peeled off more of her clothes. "Stop that!"
"No, no, no!" Captain Jack shook his head vigorously. "Don't stop that!"
Maggie stood up. "I can undress and swim for it faster than you can!" She challenged Carina.
"Maggie!" Jack scowled.
"This has gone far enough!" Henry told Carina.
"No, it has not!" Jack told Henry.
"He's right!" Maggie agreed, starting to pull her shirt over her head.
"Maggie!" Jack yelled, pulling her shirt back down. "Keep your clothes on!" He turned to Carina and smiled "Listen not to him, carry on! Carry on!"
Carina shot Jack an annoyed look before stepping past Henry and diving into the water, with her shift and corset still on!
"Why?" Captain Jack asked Henry. "She was almost finished!"
Henry grinned "I saw her ankles!"
"You'd have seen a lot more if you kept your cakehole shut!" Jack told him, angrily.
Maggie stared at the two men in disgust, before kicking Henry in the shin and punching Captain Jack on the arm.
"Ow!" Henry cried.
"Bugger!" Jack whimpered, rubbing his arm.
"Ye dirty idget's!" Maggie scolded them. "No wonder you're both still single! You're both dirty-minded idget's!"
Maggie heard a splash and turned to see that dead sharks were being dropped from the Silent Mary. All the while, the cursed ship was growing closer and closer.
"Keep rowing, man" Jack urged Henry. "Faster! Faster!"
"C'mon, Henrietta!" Maggie shouted. "Use those thin, girly sticks you call arms!"
"No! That's it!" Henry snapped, standing up and undoing his coat. "I'm going with her!" He nodded to Carina.
"You would leave me for some horologist in her knickers?" Jack asked him.
"Yes!" Henry answered like it was obvious.
Captain Jack's jaw dropped, looking almost genuinely hurt. "You men are all alike!" He gasped dramatically.
"Daddy, stop quoting your dates!" Maggie told him before turning to Henry. "And you! You better be bringing me with you!"
"I'm not!" Henry said.
"Take me with you!" Maggie told him.
"No!" Henry told her.
"You can't just abandon me!" Maggie told him. "We had a deal!"
"There's been a slight implication" Henry mimicked Maggie from the execution in Saint Martin days prior.
Henry turned and began to dive but just before he could leap, a set of large and sharp shark jaws came out of the water and just narrowly missed Henry's legs!
Henry staggered back in shock as Captain Jack wrapped one arm around him and the other around Maggie, pulling them both away from the edges of the boat.
"What was that?!" Maggie asked in panic.
"Shark..." Jack squeaked nervously.
The three stood up and looked into the water.
"We're gonna need a bigger boat" Maggie muttered with dread, seeing multiple shark fins circling them.
Henry picked up an oar, as a hammerhead tried to take a bite out of the boat, he smacked at it furiously, trying to keep it away. The hammerhead went dove back into the water, but the oar got caught in a hole in it's snout. Henry struggled to hang onto his weapon, causing the longboat to rock dangerously as he tried to keep his balance. The oar finally dislodged itself, but Henry lost his balance and yelped as he fell overboard.
"Henry!" Jack yelled to him.
"Henry!" Maggie shouted. "Whatever you do, don't die!"
"Good advice!" Henry sputtered sarcastically.
Captain Jack and Maggie reached down and helped the young man back into the longboat. As they did one shark jumped up from where Henry just was, missing him, Jack and Maggie by a mere few inches. The razor-toothed predator flew through the air over their heads and snapped it's jaws before hitting the water again.
Henry looked down. "We're taking on water!" He shouted.
"Of course we are!" Maggie rolled her eyes as she passed both the boys a bucket to bail out the water.
"This doesn't seem to be working!" Henry said, panicking.
"No, we'll be fine! We'll be fine!" Captain Jack told him with just as much panic in his voice.
Maggie glanced back to see Salazar and his men drop onto the surface of the water and start to run across it.
Jack followed her gaze. "How do they do that?" He asked.
"Maybe they're just full of hot air?" Maggie shrugged.
"We have to swim for it!" Henry told them "I'll distract them!" He grabbed Carina's discarded dress and threw it into the water, attracting the sharks. "Now!" He yelled, leaping into the water.
Maggie hopped up from her spot in the boat and prepared to dive, when she heard a crash. She turned and saw her father had gotten his foot stuck in the boat.
"Maggie Darling" Jack grinned. "You wanna give your old Dad a hand?"
"Do I have to?" Maggie moaned.
"Yes!" Jack told her.
Maggie huffed and bent down attempting to pull her father's leg out of the boat's hole. Her breath hitched as she glanced over the side of the rowboat, a whole hoard of dead sailors were running after him.
"Daddy!" Maggie gasped as they got closer.
Captain Jack followed her gaze and picked up a four-pronged hook, preparing himself to fight. Until a shark hopped up onto the boat in front of him!
Maggie screamed as Jack yelped and began trying to beat the finned nemesis away.
"Shoo! Go away!" Jack told it as he tossed the hook into it's gaping jaws.
As the shark fell back into the water, it caught a glimpse of Henry swimming toward land and started to pursue him.
The line attached to the hook in the sharks mouth began to unravel with it. Captain Jack quickly tied it to the longboat's bow.
All the while, Maggie looked behind her father and noticed the man she assumed to be Captain Salazar bearing down on them. His sword raised as he raced towards them with a look of murderous intent on his face.
"Daddy!" Maggie shrieked as the Salazar swung his sword.
As he did, Jack slung his arm around Maggie and ducked. The hook's line grew taut and the boat took off with help from the shark.
Maggie gripped her father's abdomen as he held tight to the line. She giggled along with Jack as they sped through the waves at a thrilling speed! This was fun!
"Henry!" Jack called to their deserter. He tugged the rope hard, saving Henry from a fatal shark bite.
Henry looked over as Jack hauled him back into the boat.
"Ahoy, stranger!" Maggie welcomed him back aboard.
"Hang onto Daddy, Maggie!" Jack shouted as the shark made a sharp turn upon reaching land.
Maggie and the boys screamed as they're flung from the their boat with full force. They hit the sand as the boat shatters to splinters and toothpicks.
Carina looked up from where she was resting in the sand to see an army of ghosts running atop water. She gasped, her eyes going wide.
Maggie groaned in pain as she sat up and looked around, she gasped too.
All around them were sailors of the Spanish Royal Navy, except none of them were too lively anymore. All of them had grey ashen faces with black cracks in the their skin. Some of them didn't even have faces! Some were even missing limbs! She looked up at their Captain who stared down at her father with an evil smile that oozed black goop.
"Hi, Jack Sparrow" he chuckled darkly. "Jack the Sparrow..."
"Spanish..." Jack muttered, remembering.
Maggie's breath hitched as a teenaged ghost girl appeared from behind Salazar. A girl with the same wild black hair as her father and sinister eyes. She stared directly at Maggie and smiled at her, like she was a cat that had cornered a helpless canary with a busted wing.
"Hola, Maggie Sparrow..." she said in a raspy voice, that fell somewhere between teasing and terror-inducing. Yet Maggie recognized it from somewhere...
"Matty?" Maggie breathed.
"It's actually Matóna Salazar" said the girl from the other side of the water.
Maggie and Jack looked over as one of Salazar's crew members screamed. His foot had hit dry land and he started to go up in smoke, and crumbles into black dust.
Carina stumbled to her feet, shaking with fear. "G-ghosts!" She stammered.
"Oh! They're unable to step on land" Jack as he stood up. "I knew that though!"
"GHOSTS!" Carina shouted in panic. She screamed as she took off into the island's wilderness.
"Where does she think she's going?" Maggie turned, watching her go.
"Carina!" Henry called running after her.
"Caaa-reee-naaa!" Maggie mimicked him. "Does he even know where he's going?"
"You will soon pay for what you did to me!" Salazar told Jack.
"Back off my Daddy, Poltery-giest!" Maggie stood in front of her father. "Bock-Bock-Bock!" She clucked waving her arms like wings.
"Ah Dios mío!" Matóna said. "Careful, Padre! If that kid is as vicious as she is ugly! She could bite!" (Translation: Oh my God & Father!)
Salazar's crew laughed along with her.
Maggie stared the dead girl down, not at all amused at the older girl's childish taunts.
"Maybe you should purchase a mirror before giving out beauty tips!" Maggie told her.
Matóna's eyes narrowed at her. "Well at least I don't look as pathetic as you!" She retorted. "Honestly, I've never seen anything quite so pathetic as you and your father!"
"Most pathetic you ever saw, huh?" Maggie smirked. "Wow, you really don't own a mirror!"
"You hateful little twerp!" Matóna snapped.
"Oh, stifle it!" Maggie told her. "I would tell you to drop dead, but it looks like I'm too late!" She laughed.
Matóna was seething with visible rage.
"Maggie, please!" Captain Jack intervened "Let Daddy handle this! I know how to speak Spanish!"
Maggie groaned. "No, Daddy. You really don't!"
The thing was Captain Jack had traveled all over Spain, he had many acquaintances in Spain. In fact the Spanish were some of his favorite people, right up there with the French. However, Captain Jack had failed to perfect the Spanish language... but try telling him that!
"Watch and learn, Maggie" Jack told her as she approached Captain Salazar.
"I will watch, but I doubt I'll learn" Maggie muttered. "Watch and laugh prehaps..."
"Capitán, estoy muy embarazado de nuestro último encuentro!" Captain Jack said in Spanish. "Sin embargo, ahora soy un caballo razonable, que está dispuesto a dejar que tu madre amamante a mi perro. ¿Qué dices a eso?" (Translation: Captain, I'm very pregnant from our last meeting! However I am now a reasonable horse, who is willing to let your mother breastfeed my dog. What do you say to that?)
Unlike her father Maggie had an easier time picking up on the Spanish language. And as she listened to her father's verbal trainwreck to Captain Salazar, Maggie's face scrunched up in confusion, almost identical to the faces of Salazar, Matóna and their crew.
"What?" Maggie asked her father. "What are ye talking about?! Do you have a death wish?"
"Why? What'd I say?" Jack asked her to clarify.
Maggie sighed deeply puffing out her cheeks. "I'm not gonna bother repeating it, Daddy" she shook her head. "But let's just say, you make less sense in Spanish than you do in English!"
"You want my mother to do what?!" Salazar roared, now visibly angry as well. "You will die, Sparrow!"
"But you can't kill me!" Captain Jack pleaded, pushing Maggie in front of him. "I have a daughter now! She needs me to survive! She loves me dearly!"
"Daddy, he's been seething in anger for over thirty years" Maggie informed her father. "I doubt he cares wither or not you have a dependent offspring."
"Maggie, tell the spanish ghost man how much you love me!" Jack said. "Tell him how much you love your Daddy!"
Maggie sighed deeply and proceeded to try and convince the vengeful Captain Salazar to spare her father's life. Although since she doubted she could appeal to his emotional side, she decided to appeal to his logical side.
"Capitán Salazar, por favor ¡No apuñale a mi papá!" Maggie said in perfect Spanish. "¡Usa otro método que no dañe sus órganos! Otras personas los necesitan ya sabes! Se sorprendería de la cantidad de dinero que puede obtener por dos riñones saludables en el mercado negro. Su hígado, sin embargo, probablemente no sea tan bueno ya que él bebe tanto." (Translation: Captain Salazar, Please don't stab my Daddy! Use another method that won't damage his organs! Other people need them y'know! You'd be shocked at how much cash you can get for two healthy kidneys on the black market. His liver, however, is probably not that good since he drinks so much.)
Captain Jack nodded happily, clearly bot understanding a word of what his daughter was saying. Nevertheless, he wrapped his arms around his daughter and kissed her forehead.
"And I love you, my angel" he told her, resting his chin on her head as he held her.
"Mencioné que soy adoptada?" Maggie added to Salazar. (Translation: Did I mention I'm adopted?)
"Yes! I am her Dada!" Jack nodded happily as Maggie rolled her eyes.
"Mark my words, Sparrow" Matóna told Jack. "We will have our revenge on you!"
"No, no, no" Jack shook his head. "There's no need to bother, really!"
"Yeah, don't bother" Maggie narrowed her eyes at Matóna. "Cause if you're going up against us, you don't stand a chance!"
"Maggie, don't poke a sleeping shark..." Jack whispered out the corner of his mouth. He turned to the ghosts "We have no time to chat because our map's just run away."
"I will be waiting for you!" Salazar told him.
"Why don't you step over this tide line and come and get us? If you're such a big mucho man!" Maggie teased.
Maggie" Captain Jack grabbed her and turned, running towards the island.
"Why would he be waiting for me?" Jack asked her, scared. "Why would he be waiting for me?"
☠💀☠
Captain Jack and Maggie followed Henry as they searched the jungle for Carina. Who apparently can move a rather far distance in a short amount of time...
"Carina!" Henry called out to her.
"Oh, I know what's ailing you, boy" Jack nodded. "You've got the unscratchable itch..."
"Carina is the only one who can help us find the Trident" Henry explained. "And I'm not in love with her!"
"Oh! So you're in love with me then?" Maggie grinned.
"What... no!" Henry shook his head.
"Why not!" Maggie planted her hands on her hips. "What? I'm not good enough for you?"
"No! I like you, I just don't love you!" Henry told her. "I love you as a friend though?"
"Hold on there, boy-o!" Jack poked his shoulder. "What's all this about you loving me daughter? You're half her age! Ye bloody sick-o!"
"I don't love Maggie!" Henry's eyes widened.
"Well, what's wrong with ye!" Jack snapped. "Why don't you like my Maggie? She's a beautiful girl!"
"It's because I'm not as smart as Carina, isn't it?" Maggie asked Henry.
Henry shook his head "No!"
"So it's because she's not as pretty as Carina?" Jack asked. "Calling my baby girl ugly, are ye? Is that it?"
"No! No! No!" Henry told him.
"Well, spit it out, boy! Why don't you like me daughter?" Jack snapped.
"I don't know!" Henry squeaked nervously. "I don't even know how we got on this topic!"
"Niether do I" Captain Jack furrowed his eyebrows in confusion.
"Me either" Maggie shrugged.
"Help!" Came a voice up ahead. "Help me!"
Henry followed the sound of the voice to a clearing in the jungle.
"Carina!" Henry said looking up at her as she was trapped and dangling from a net trap.
"Henry!" Carina cried. "Help me!"
Maggie came running in behind Henry. "Well, go on loverboy!" She told him. "Help your girlfriend!"
Henry glared at her "She's not my gir--"
Suddenly a second net flew up from the ground, catching both Henry and Maggie in it. Immediately after, Captain Jack cames running into the clearing. He glanced up at his daughter who was tangled in the net with Henry.
"Maggie! What are you doing in a net with a boy?!" Jack asked her. "Henry, you keep your hands to yourself!"
"Daddy! Help me!" Maggie called to her father.
"Don't worry, Luv! Daddy's coming!" Captain Jack marched forward with his sword, ready to cut the rope to the net, but he fell short. Well... he fell into a hole hidden under the leaves.
Jack sat up in the hole and glanced around. He attempted to climb out of the hole, but it was too deep.
"Change of plans! Daddy's trapped!" Jack called to Maggie.
"Ugh!" Maggie groaned. "Just can't win today!"
Suddenly, a group of sailors approached the traps, two of the three men chuckled upon getting a closer look at their prey.
"Hi there!" Maggie smiled nervously.
Suddenly one pirate tossed a rock into the hole where Jack was and knocked him out.
"Daddy!" Maggie cried, watching Jack fall limp and unconscious. "Leave him alone, you sorry sacks of squid innards! Or I'll hang you by your toes in a dark room and gut you like a carp!"
As Maggie shouted threats to their captors, another sailor knocked her out with a quick blow on the back of her skull. Maggie's vision went blurry before she blacked out completely...
