The Sacrifice Of A Friend...
Captain Armando Salazar looked down at the Trident of Poseidon in his hands. He could feel it's ancient power coursing through his body. It was almost like being alive again. He pointed the Trident at one of the water wall surrounding them, he grinned as they rippled and swished under his control.
Matóna could feel the Trident's power as well, since it was her father working it. She slowly climbed down from the coral covered rock she was clinging to and placed her feet on dry land for the first time in over three decades.
Captain Salazar stared directly at Captain Jack. "I hate the Sparrow. Die Sparrow!" He said as he pointed the Trident at him.
"Maggie! Get back!" Captain Jack said, pushing her out of the way before he was hurled off his feet and into the air by a column of water.
Jack shouted in fear before Salazar used the Trident to throw him against a rock.
"Daddy!" Maggie screamed in horror.
Salazar cackled, clearly enjoying himself.
"Leave him alone, you bastard!" Maggie shouted, charging towards him with her sword drawn.
But as she ran past a rock, Matóna's arm shot out and caught her by the throat. Matóna grabbed Maggie and rolled to the ground, she held her against her as she kept her arm wrapped tightly around the young girl's throat.
"You're going to watch this!" She hissed in Maggie's ear, forcing her to watch as her father continued to throw hers around like a helpless rag doll through the water and into the rocks.
"Let me go!" Maggie shouted.
"There's no point!" Matóna snapped. "There's nothing you can you do now! I don't know why you thought you could defeat us! You poor, sweet, stupid little girl!"
Maggie turned to glare back at her. "Who you calling sweet?" She hissed.
"Oh, bite me!" Matóna snapped.
Maggie stared at her arm around her neck. "Alright then!" She shrugged before chomping her teeth down into the dead girl's arm.
Matóna shrieked in pain as she retracted her arm, giving Maggie the opportunity to make a run for her father.
"As I told you before..." Captain Jack echoed the words of his nineteen year old self. "Surrender to me now and I'll let you..." He looked up at his still deceased foe. "...live?" He finished half-heartedly.
"You want me to surrender?" Salazar asked jokingly.
Captain Jack stood up and put on his hat. "Maybe..." he tried to seem convincing.
"This is where the tale ends!" Salazar shouted, taking the Trident and stabbing it into Jack's chest.
Maggie came running around the corner as Salazar drove her father back and pinned him against a rock.
"DADDY!" She screamed in horror at the sight of the Trident piercing his chest.
"No!" Carina yelled from across the sea floor.
Captain Jack looked down at the Trident, groaning as he looks up at Salazar. The vengeful captain grinned with glee, basking in the moment he had waited over thirty years for!
Tears welled in Maggie's eyes as she watched it, her heart sank into her stomach. A shiver pass through her body as the tears began to fall.
Matóna cackled evilly. "I told you, you can't stop us!" She told Maggie, condescendingly.
Maggie's heartache turned to blind fury but just before she was could attack Matóna, she noticed her father smirking up at Salazar from the corner of her eye. Carina's diary was hidden beneath Jack's waistcoat, it had taken the impact of the Trident.
Henry pulled out his sword and ran to where Jack and Salazar were struggling with the Trident. He swung down hard, breaking the glowing gem in the Trident's head and shattered the ancient artifact.
The power of the Trident exploded out and rippled through the sea as Salazar stumbles forward, wheezing. Matona leaned against a rock, her knees buckling. The crew of the Silent Mary started choking underwater. Maggie walked over and hugged her father's leg, staring around as the dead sailor's curse began to slowly reverse. Henry and Carina stepped back with her and Jack. Salazar's crew broke free from the water. Salazar and Matóna felt their faces as they began to return to normal, their ash-covered skin healing and the color of their cheeks returning.
"All curses are broken..." Henry realized.
Salazar, Matóna and their crew slowly began laughing and celebrating as they were finally alive. Maggie looked up and noticed sea water starting to leak down on them, the gap in the sea was closing in... and it was going to come down on them!
"Daddy! We have to get out of here!" Maggie said tugging on his coat. "I don't think doggy-paddling is gonna cut it this time!"
"How can we get back?" Carina asked panicked. "Even if we make it back to the way we came, its still too steep to climb!"
"START RUNNING!" Came a voice from above.
Maggie's eyes widened as she looked to the sky. "Are you there God?" She asked. "It's me Maggie... y'know, Sparrow."
Suddenly she noticed the Black Pearl sailing just along the side of the closing gap of the sea. The anchor was lowered and there standing on top of the anchor was Hector Barbossa!
"The Pearl! My Pearl!" Jack noticed as well.
"Barbossa! Wigless Barbossa!" Maggie chimed. It was the first time she'd seen him without his dorky wig in over two years.
"Climb!" Carina yelled, running for the lowered anchor.
"Move! Fast!" Barbossa shouted to them.
Captain Salazar and Matóna noticed the trio running for the anchor, they chased after them, not willing to let their pray go.
"Jack!" Salazar shouted.
"Maggie!" Matóna hollered.
"Go away!" Maggie shouted behind her as she ran.
The crew of the Silent Mary clamored after them, not wanting to drown after being given life again.
"Jump!" Barbossa told the quartet of pirates. "Faster!"
Henry and Carina climbed onto a rock and leaped for the anchor. Jack tossed Maggie onto the anchor chain and climbed on behind her. Carina was the first to start climbing up the anchor. They made their way up the chain as Salazar and Matóna was gaining on them. The anchor slowly submerged more.
"Up! Anchor!" Barbossa shouted to the crew on the Pearl.
"Capitán!" Salazar's crew shouted to him. They were unable to get to the anchor in time.
Salazar and Matóna barely looked down at their saddened and betrayed faces before continuing their ascent.
The pirates are over halfway up at this point, but the Salazar's were gaining fast, then the anchor chain hit a rock causing the Pearl to jolt. The anchor chain stopped moving up and instead began to drop downward, until it stopped and continued to upwards. But the jolt of the stop sent Carina flying off the chain, screaming until Barbossa caught her by the arm.
"I got you!" Barbossa told her as she looked up at him.
As Carina grabbed ahold of the chain, she noticed something. A tattoo of a familiar five star constellation on the inside of Barbossa's forearm. Barbossa saw her noticing and gave her a small, genuine smile.
"Who am I to you?" Carina asked him.
Barbossa looked at her lovingly. "Treasure" he confirmed, reverently.
As Carina realized the implications of this, Barbossa looked past her, seeing Salazar close to his daughter. He raises his sword, ready to strike.
"Hold on!" Barbossa told her, placing her other hand on the chain. Carina carefully twisted her hand to grab the chain.
Captain Jack looked down, watching it all. He and Maggie unsheathed their swords. "Hector!" He called down to Barbossa.
Barbossa looked up as Jack let the swords drop straight down. Barbossa let go of the chain to grab the sword, locking eyes with Carina as he falls past her. He looked peaceful. He fell, stabbing Salazar and then Matóna on the way down, all three of them falling.
Armando Salazar screamed, his head hitting the anchor, then his body limply hitting the water. Matóna fell on the other side of the anchor, landing on her back which broke upon impact.
Captain Jack, Maggie, Henry, and Carina all watched all with different emotions on their faces. Hector Barbossa looked back up at them, his face still peaceful. He was dying, but on his own terms, protecting his most valuable treasure... his daughter. He closed his eyes before his body hits the waves and was lost forever.
The walls of water closed in on them, Jack screamed and Maggie held her breath and held her nose as they were overtaken by sea water.
The Black Pearl is on the open sea again as the waves close. The anchor chain continues to move up until Jack, Maggie, Carina, and Henry are all together, coughing and holding on to the chain. The crew rushed over to help them aboard, whild cheering about the successful venture.
Captain Jack stood up and looked at the ocean. "Pirate's life, Hector" he said mournfully.
Murtogg and Mullroy looked at each other, realizing what Barbossa's absence meant. Both remove their hats and place them over their hearts. Gibbs gasped and put his hand over his own heart. The crew follows suit, paying tribute to one of the Black Pearl's two captains.
Carina looked up from the waves, staring off into the distance, trying to process everything.
Henry looked over at Carina, not sure what to do. Jack nudged Henry's hand with Galileo's diary. Henry looked down, took it, and walked over to her.
"You all right?" Henry asked her, gently.
"I don't know" Carina said uncertain. "For a moment, I had everything, Henry. Now, it's all gone again..."
"It's not all gone, Ms. Smyth Henry said, offering her the diary.
Carina's lips moved soundlessly as she held the diary. She ran her thumb over the cover before looking back up at him.
"Barbossa" Carina confirmed, smiling. "My name is Barbossa."
Captain Jack and Maggie watched from the side.
"Wait... so Henrietta's into girls?" Maggie asked.
"No. Turns out he's all boy, Maggie" Captain Jack explained.
"Dang!" Maggie snapped her fingers. "Should've asked him out while I had the chance!"
"Maggie!" Jack told her. "No dating!"
"Look on the bright side, if I got married and moved out, you wouldn't have to take care of me" Maggie shrugged. "Then you could focus on being a better pirate captain."
Jack looked at her. "Maggie, I'd rather go the rest of my life without my luck, then give you up" he told her.
"I love you, Daddy..." Maggie said softly as he hugged her close. "...Can I have some money?" She asked after a pause.
"Mmm... No" Jack cooed.
"Worth a shot" Maggie shrugged.
