The Pirate All Pirates Fear...
When the door to the Captain's cabin creaked open--sounding much like the lid of a coffin-- and the sound of heavy boots echoed behind them. It was at that very moment, Captain Jack and Maggie Sparrow knew they had made a very dangerous mistake...
As the father-daughter pirate duo slowly turned around they saw him, Edward 'Blackbeard' Teach, the pirate who struck fear in the hearts of other pirates. The dark merciless shadow of the seven sea's. The man who is said to have died by being beheaded and yet his body swam three times around his ship before climbing back aboard to retrieve his sereved head from the bulk of the ship where it was left by the men who tried to kill him.
As he approached them, Maggie felt Jack gently grab her shoulder and motion for her to follow him away from him. As Maggie slowly followed her father down the stairs, she couldn't help but keep staring at the famous pirate. It was like looking at the sun reflecting off the scales of a venomous cobra, she was entranced by the sight of him, but terrified what his next move would be.
As the smoke billowed from the fuses in his famous beard, he stared out at his crew. The same crew who just moments ago, were planning to take his ship and go against his orders. His stormy blue eyes sent a chill down Maggie's spine and made her heart drop into her stomach, weighed down with dread and fear.
"Gentlemen" he drained the bottle of whiskey he held in one long swallow and threw it on the deck, right at Captain Jack's feet.
"I be placed in a bewilderment" Blackbeard announced to the crew. "There I were, resting and upon a sudden I hear an ungodly row on deck."
He placed his hand on the bejeweled hilt of his sword, which was in it's scabbard on his hip. As he touched the sword, Maggie noticed the ropes and rigging of the Queen Anne's Revenge unraveling by themselves, like snakes unraveling from above.
"Sailors abandon their posts, without order, without leave. Men before the mast, taking the ship for themselves" Blackbeard shook his head in disappointment. "What be that, first mate?"
"Mutiny, Captain!" Angelica responded from nearby.
"Again?" Blackbeard put a hand to his ear.
"Mutiny!" Angelica repeated.
"Aye, mutiny most foul" Blackbeard nodded, taking his sword out of it's scabbard. "And what fate befalls mutineers? Now, we know the answer to that, do we not?" He sneered "Mutineers HAAAAANG!"
As Blackbeard thrust his sword into the air, the Queen Anne's Revenge seemed to come alive and sail all on her own. The lanterns on deck all ignited at once and the sails of the ship unraveled by themselves, catching the wind and lurching the ship forward. The pirates and zombie officers lost their balance, falling forward on the deck.
The ropes and rigging that were unraveling themselves before, now began to strike like snakes at the pirates. They winded and tightened around the pirates and they seemed impossible to fend off. Sailors were dragged across the deck and slammed into the bulkheads. The ropes began to tie their own knots around the pirates and lift them up into the air.
In record time, the Queen Anne's Revenge looked like a massive spider web, with the rigging and ropes crossing every which way and sailors trapped in them like insects, awaiting death.
Captain Jack soon found himself in front of Blackbeard himself. Mind you, he was hanging upside down by the rope that had ensnared his ankles, but he was still face to face with the sinister pirate.
"Captain, I wish to report a mutiny!" He said nervously. "I can name fingers and point names!"
"No need, Mr. Sparrow" Blackbeard told him "They are sheep, you their shepherd." He returned his sword to it's scabbard and Jack fell down onto the deck.
Blackbeard walked down the steps of the helm and took out his pistol. Angelica and Diego by his side.
"Have I mentioned sir, what a lovely daughter you have?" Jack complimented from where he landed on the deck.
"A fitting last sight for a doomed soul" Blackbeard nodded, aiming his pistol at Jack.
"Hey! Smokey Beard!" Maggie yelled from above. "You leave my Daddy alone!"
Blackbeard and company gazed up to where Maggie was hanging up her ankles just like her father was moments ago.
"And who be you, Young Minx?" Blackbeard asked her.
"I be Maggie Sparrow!" Maggie told him. "Now kindly let me go of these sinister ropes, so I can tell you off face to face!"
Blackbeard thought about it, then shrugged and tapped the hilt of his sword, sending Maggie back down to the deck, luckily Jack broke her fall.
Maggie clambered to her feet and brushed herself off and looked up at Blackbeard, he was even more scary-looking up close. Suddenly Maggie didn't feel as confident about telling him off as she did before.
"Um... I-uh..." Maggie stuttered "I just wanted to point out that the mutiny was all his idea!" She pointed to Jack.
"What?!" Jack asked, surprised that his own daughter would sell him out to save her own skin!
"Yes sir, Captain! It was all his doing!" Maggie went on. "I may be his daughter true enough, but I am merely a blind accomplice in all this! But as they say, do not blame the child for the sins of the father!"
"Really?" Blackbeard asked "I always thought it said, kill the child for her sins after the father."
He pointed his pistol at Maggie as her breath hitched.
"Remember Abuelo" Diego told Blackbeard "We need them." (Translation: Grandpa)
"If I don't kill a man every now and then they forget who I am" Blackbeard told his grandson.
"Coward!" a voice cried out.
Everyone turned to the origin of the voice, Phillip the Missionary had managed to not be ensnared in the ropes.
"They do not forget! Your crew see's you for the miscreant you are! A coward! No matter how many you slay!" Phillip told Blackbeard.
Maggie's eyebrows shot up. She was shocked that Philip had the guts to even think about saying that, let alone actually saying it to Blackbeard himself. You didn't have to be a pirate to know how dangerous Edward Teach was.
"Twice in one day I find myself in a bewilderment" Blackbeard stated as a zombie officer held Phillip back.
"You are not bewildered, you are afraid!" Phillip told him. "You dare not walk the path of righteousness, the way of the light!"
"No sir, the fact of it be much simpler than all that..." Blackbeard told him "I am a bad man."
"That too" Phillip replied.
"I think I might have to kill you too, catechist!" Blackbeard began to lose his temper.
"No!" Angelica snapped, shoving Blackbeard's aimed pistol away.
"All Latin blood! Like her mother!" Blackbeard moaned.
"Father, I beg you!" Angelica told him.
"Please Abuelo" Diego said "Think of your soul."
"Ah, there I be again forgetting why the missionary is here. My daughter and grandson fear for my soul, what is left of it" Blackbeard turned to Angelica "You truly wish to save me, my child?"
"Every soul can be saved" Angelica assured him.
"Be that true, young cleric?" Blackbeard asked Phillip.
"Yes, though you I see as a bit of a long shot" Phillip answered "still I pray for every unfortunate soul aboard this hell-bound vessel."
"You disarm me with your faith" Blackbeard put his pistol back in his holster.
Maggie sighed in relief, until Blackbeard turned and made an announcement to the crew.
"Eight bells!" He snapped "Which of you unfortunate souls stood watch?"
"I did!" Captain Jack said, raising his hand. "I stood watch!"
Blackbeard chuckled and turned to the nearest zombie. "Gunner?" He asked.
Gunner glanced at the ship's cook who was tangled in the rigging nearby.
"You?" Blackbeard asked.
"Aye" the Cook replied.
"Aye. The Cook" Blackbeard nodded "Perfect. Lower the longboat!"
☠💀☠
Maggie, Jack and the rest of the crew watched from the rail as the Cook bobbed along the ocean in a longboat. The poor man seemed frightened beyond belief as he continued to try and get the boats oars into place.
"Bring her about!" Blackbeard shouted to the Quartermaster who was at the helm.
"Why do you do this?" Angelica asked her father.
"Mutiny! Our laws be clear!" Blackbeard said.
"Our laws allow the captain to show leniency!" Angelica told him.
"I've given this man a chance to determine his fate" Blackbeard explained "A gift not afforded to all!"
Maggie stood beside her father, watching as the cook tried with all his might to row away. He seemed to be trying all he could to put as much distance between him and the Queen Anne's Revenge. Even though Maggie didn't understand why he was doing so, it was almost as if she could feel his fear and she crossed her fingers hoping it would give the poor man luck somehow.
Blackbeard turned to Philip. "Now, a chance to show the work of your prayer. Pray he be delivered from... evil?"
At that point the Queen Anne's Revenge was lined up perfectly with the longboat.
"Course made!" Blackbeard shouted.
"Stop! Give that man a chance! Give yourself a--" Phillip didn't get to finish.
From the prow of the ship, Greek fire shot out of the mouths of the skull figureheads. The flames rolled over the water and towards the longboat engulfing it and it's lone passenger in the fiery anguish.
Maggie looked over at Diego, the fire reflected the tears in his eyes as he struggled to swallow the sob in his throat.
"Mamá..." he whimpered as he buried his face in Angelica's abdomen.
Angelica, who was trying to keep her own tears from coming up, grabbed him and rushed back to her cabin.
Maggie couldn't say she blamed them, it was a hard to even hear of another person's death, let alone witness it before your very eyes. And yet the cold, demented Blackbeard seem to take delight in it all.
Maggie began to cry as well as she hugged her father close. Captain Jack rubbed her back comfortingly, but he couldn't take his eyes off the horrid sight.
☠💀☠
Captain Jack and Maggie were brought to the Captain's Cabin soon after. Well, if by brought you mean dragged by zombies and then pinned by their shirt collar's to the bulkhead, then yes, brought.
Blackbeard came in shortly after and sat at his desk, he leaned over and started working on something.
"We actually have no interest in the Fountain, so if your heart's set, you may drop us off anywhere you like" Captain Jack told Blackbeard.
Blackbeard ignored him. "That'll be all, Quartermaster" he dismissed the zombie.
"Your words surround you like fog" Blackbeard observed Jack "making you hard to see."
"And what of you, the mighty Blackbeard?" Jack asked "Beheaded, they say and still your body swam three times around your ship, then climbed back on board. Yet here you are, running scared."
"Scared?" Blackbeard said the word as if he had never heard it before.
"To the Fountain" Maggie mentioned.
"The Quartermaster see's things before they happen, he has foreseen my death" Blackbeard told them "And so the fates have spoken, the threads of destiny woven."
"You seem to have a very deep belief in fate" Maggie stated.
"And you, young Sparrow?" Blackbeard asked.
"I prefer to not worry about what's going to happen next" Maggie shrugged "I'm pretty sure I'll shorten my life span if I stress about it too much."
"And I'm skeptical of predicting any future which includes me" Jack added.
"It'd be foolish to battle fate, but I am tempted to cheat it" Blackbeard explained "I will reach the Fountain and you will lead me."
Captain Jack managed to pull the knife pinning him to the wall loose and winked at Maggie. He now had a weapon to use against Blackbeard.
"That knife will serve you no better than the mutiny you devised" Blackbeard said, without even turning his head.
"The mutiny served me well" Jack replied, stabbing the knife into the table. "It gained me an audience with you."
"Oh?" Blackbeard looked up.
"To warn you" Jack told him, as he unpinned Maggie. "Regarding your first mate, who pretends to be persons she's not."
"Do tell" Blackbeard raised a curious brow.
"She's not your daughter" Maggie told Blackbeard "she's lying to you."
"You speak thusly of my own flesh and blood?" Blackbeard asked.
"Sir, the woman is consummate in the art of deception" Jack told him."I know I taught her, though I cannot claim credit for her abundance of natural talent."
Maggie noticed Blackbeard holding up two handmade dolls.
"Doll-making, huh?" Maggie asked Blackbeard. "Well, not the type of hobby I thought the famous Blackbeard would have, but it seems nice. Look, Daddy! One of them looks just like you! And the other looks like an adorable little girl with black curls and a red bandana. It kinda looked familiar... I can't put my finger on who though...?"
Blackbeard gave her a hard look and Maggie decided to drop the subject.
"Angelica? My beloved daughter? The one true good thing that I have done in this life and you claim to be the one who corrupted her?" Blackbeard asked Jack, as he began to fume.
"Sir, what she is, is evil" Captain Jack told Blackbeard "more to be feared than a wild beast, hungry wild beast with gnashing teeth. Vengeful, hungry from hell beast."
"Father?" Angelica walked into the room.
"Sweetness!" Jack said as he turned towards Angelica.
Blackbeard stabbed the edge of the knife into the abdomen of the Captain Jack doll. At the same time the real Captain Jack doubled over in pain.
"Daddy!" Maggie cried, she looked over at Blackbeard. "Leave him be! You sick, demented son of a--"
Blackbeard picked up the other doll and twisted it's arm holding it behind it's back. Maggie cried out in pain as the same thing happened to her! It was as if she had no control over her arm.
"Maggie!" Jack turned to Blackbeard. "Stop it! You'll break her arm! She's just a little girl!"
"No need to hurt them, Father" Angelica said.
"Yes, Abuelo" Diego smirked, following her. "I'm sure they will more than happy to lead us to the Fountain."
"You see?" Blackbeard told Jack and Maggie. "Even now she attends to your welfare, giving lie to the claims you make of her."
"You will lead us to the Fountain, yes?" Angelica asked Jack.
"Put another way" Blackbeard told him "If I do not make it to the Fountain..."
He held the heads of Jack and Maggie's voodoo dolls over the flames of two side by side candles. Captain Jack held his head in pain and Maggie whimpered, holding back tears as a fiery headache rippled through both their heads.
"...Neither will you or your daughter." Blackbeard finished.
"I'll have a look-see at those charts straight away then, shall I?" Jack decided.
