GTC: Grand Theft Carriage!
As soon as Maggie and Captain Jack left the dining room and gave the Royal Guard the slip. They found themselves racing down a set of stairs, they passed one guard who was carrying Jack's effects. Jack knocked the guards hat off his head as he passed him.
The guard chased after him and Maggie, leaving Jack's effects on the table. Jack peeked up from under the table and grabbed his effects, after strapping them on he followed Maggie who was already running down the hallway to find an exit.
"Seriously?" Maggie asked as they ran down the hall together. "A palace this huge doesn't have more exits? Who built this fancy-pants dump?"
Captain Jack slid to a stop he knew the entire royal guard was probably scaling the entire castle by now. It wouldn't be long before one found them and sounded an alarm. The only means of escape was a window, however it was a long way down. But the father-daughter duo had no choice as they heard approaching footsteps.
By the time the lone guard got there, Jack and Maggie had disappeared. The guard looked around the open window and found no sign of them.
Little did he know that Maggie and Jack were hiding nearby, behind a banner that hung across the street displaying the royal crest.
The gaurd shrugged and began to shut the window.
Maggie sighed in relief and fidgeted a little behind the banner. But as she did, she drops something that clattered loudly onto the cobblestone street below.
The guard freezes as the window is half closed and spots the gold crown, Maggie had stolen from a display case inside the Palace. He looked toward the banner and noticed Jack and Maggie hanging from it. The guard immediately began to blow his whistle, signaling for back-up.
"Maggie!" Captain Jack scowled her.
"Give me a break!" Maggie hissed "It was big and shiny!"
The captain of the guard comes to a window closer to them and begins to cut the cord of the banner holding them up.
Captain Jack and Maggie hang on tightly as the banner gives away with them swinging down with it.
But instead of hitting the ground they ended up inside the moving carriage of a high society lady.
Maggie landed on the floor of the carriage while Jack landed right on top of the lady herself.
Maggie stood up in the carriage and looked at the lady.
"Love the hat! It works on you" She told her before jumping out the carriage window and up to the roof.
Captain Jack joined her a moment later and slipped one of the lady's earrings into her hand. Maggie shrugged and pocketed the sapphire earring.
With the guards still behind them, Maggie and Jack balanced themselves on top of the moving carriage. As the carriage turned a corner, a second carriage drove up beside them.
Jack tried to step onto the other carriage, but soon he was straddled between the two carriages. Both of which are headed for the opposite sides of an intersection.
Jack quickly hops back to the original carriage and grabs ahold of Maggie before they both land on a flatbed cart carrying a wooden casket.
"Dad!" Maggie called, seeing that they were now headed towards the guards.
"Hang on, Luv!" He told her, picking her up and stepping onto a wooden plank two men were carrying. After balancing on that for a while, he stepped onto the hat of a man passing by.
Captain Jack then landed them both on a slow moving coal cart. Jack climbed to the front of the cart and sat beside the driver. He grabbed the reins from the driver, who soon dives off of the runaway cart and Maggie climbs up and sits beside her father.
Maggie looks back to see the guards are on horseback behind them and gaining fast!
"Dad! They're right on our tails!" Maggie told him "Go faster!"
"I'm trying!" Jack said, snapping the horses reins.
Maggie turned and saw the captain of the guards aiming his pistol at them and ordering his men to open fire on the coal cart.
"AHH!" Maggie shrieked, ducking her head as bullets flew at the back of the cart.
Fortunately, the sound of firing pistols scared the horses, causing them to speed up... Unfortunately, one bullet hit a lit lantern hanging on the back of the cart. It exploded and the pile of coal caught on fire!
The flaming cart passed under an archway, the guards race after it...
...They raced by so fast they didn't notice Captain Jack hanging from the sigh of a local pub nearby. Or Maggie, who was panting as she peeked out from the alleyway she had dived into.
Maggie walked out into the deserted street and looked up.
"Daddy, get your face off that lady's boobs!" She told her father, who had his face pressed against the breast of the lady on the sign.
Captain Jack dropped down beside her and gave her a meek smile.
"That's not the first time I've had to tell you that" Maggie crossed her arms.
Just then they both heard the click of a gun.
"Flithy pirates!" One guard sneered.
Maggie and Jack froze and jumped when they heard a gun shot. They looked at each other, neither one of them was dead or wounded or bleeding. They turned and saw the guard fall to the ground with a gun wound in his back.
The father daughter duo looked up to see their savior, holding his still smoking pistol.
"Ello Jacky" Captain Edward Teague greeted his son.
"Ello Dad" Captain Jack nodded to his father.
"Grand-Dad!" Maggie cheered.
"Maggie my girl!" Captain Teague hugged his granddaughter. "How have you been?"
"Well... as good as can be expected" Maggie shrugged "Today Daddy was a judge and I was his neice and I had to wear a dress! But it was all ugly and pink and I didn't like it! And then we rode in a paddy wagon, but it was alright because Daddy paid off the driver! But the driver was a jerk who brought us to the Palace and we met this big, mean fru-fru man who apparently is the king of us! And we were like 'no way, man' and we threw a guy out a window and swung around on a chandelier and ran away while eating a creme puff! A good creme puff! And the guards, they chased us and we were jumping around on carriage's and a casket and a coal cart! Then the coal cart got all firey and I jumped off into that alley and Daddy landed on the sign lady's boobies and then you shot that man and now I'm explaining what happened!" She exhaled "Can I have a cookie?"
"Sure! Let's give you more sugar!" Captain Teague said, sarcastically. "It would be like tossing a bucket of kerosene on a grease fire!"
☠💀☠
That night the Captain's Daughter pub was filled with ruffians, drunkards, highwaymen, barmaids and painted ladies. Basically all the fun people, Captain Jack and Maggie were accustomed to seeing. The two sat at a table in the corner with Captain Teague.
"I hear you're putting together a crew" Captain Teague told his son.
"If enough people keep saying it, it must be true" Jack shrugged.
"I heard we're you're headed" Teague nodded "The Fountain."
"Have you been there?" Jack asked him.
"Does this face look like it's been to the Fountain of Youth?" Teague asked his son.
"Depends on the light..." Jack shrugged.
"Maybe you're eyesight is just failing, Daddy!" Maggie giggled.
Captain Teague chuckled "She's a bloody riot!"
"She's gonna be grounded, if she keeps it up" Jack shot her a glare.
"Son, the Fountain" Teague told him, seriously "There be items required for the profane ritual. Two chalice's."
Jack nodded "On the map there was a chalice..."
"Two!" Captain Teague corrected "Silver, from Ponce de Leon's ship."
"The Santiago" Maggie said, remembering the ship's name from a book.
"That's the one, Lass" Captain Teague told her "Aboard that ship is where you'll find the two silver chalice's. You'll need them both."
"For...?" Jack asked.
"The ritual!" Teague told him "Don't be a fool, Jacky! Find out every detail before you set sail!"
"Set sail? Love to!" Jack said "For that we'd need a ship."
"Those folk, over there. They have a ship" Captain Teague nodded towards a pack of drunken sailors, one playing a mandola and singing. "And Jacky, Maggie one last thing. The Fountain will test you both. Mark my words."
Captain Jack and Maggie nodded and looked over at the sailors. When they turned back towards Teague, they realized he had vanished. They both raised an eyebrow at this.
"Is Grand-Dad magic?" Maggie asked her father.
"I don't know" Jack shook his head "Maybe?"
"So those guys have a ship" Maggie nodded, looking over at the sailors. "Do you think they're signing up men? And their daughters?"
"One can only hope" Captain Jack muttered. "What if they refuse us?"
Maggie pulled her dagger from her boot. "Then I'll be sure to give them our references" she giggled evilly.
"You're scaring me, Luv" Jack told her.
Meanwhile across the room, one of the sailors named Scrum, was finishing his song, when Maggie grabbed him by the hair and held the dagger blade to his throat.
"We hear you be recruiting a crew..." Jack said from beside him.
"Aye" Scrum replied "that is, Jack Sparrow be putting together an modest venture with his young lass, Maggie."
Maggie realised his hair and stood beside her father, glaring at Scrum.
"You two got some nerve, ain't ya?" Scrum asked them "Turning up here dressed like that? What are ya's? A couple of imposters?"
"Do you have you any idea who we are, mate?" Captain Jack asked him.
"Ha! Oi, Muckers!" Scrum shouted to crowd "There's a bloke and a little lassie here what's forgotten their own names!"
Jack and Maggie rolled their eyes. They couldn't tell if this guy was drunk, stupid or both.
Suddenly a sailor walked out of one of the back storage rooms.
"Lads! I'm sailing with Sparrow!" He grinned, proudly "Who'll buy a sailor a drink?"
As the sailors all congratulated him, Maggie noticed the light pouring out of the room he left and in that light was not one, but two shadowed silhouettes. One was tall with a tricorn hat on it's head flipping, what seemed like dreadlocks, over it's shoulder. The other was short with long curls for hair.
Maggie tugged on her father's coat and pointed to the shadows. Making sure Maggie was close behind him, Captain Jack crept quietly toward the doorway to the storage room.
It seemed they were about to meet their impostors... and make them pay for messing with them!
AN: New chapter is on it's way, I'll try and hurry it up this time! Until then, keep your mate's close and your imposters closer, savvy? ❤☠
