Finding The Fountain!

The next morning, Maggie and Captain Jack had their newly acquired silver chalices in hand and were ready to rejoin Blackbeard and his merry band of zombie jerks! The two hid behind some trees as they heard Blackbeard's landing party drawing near.

As Angelica ducked under a branch, she stopped just as Jack's sword blade flew out, stopping inches in front of her face.

Diego ran towards his mother to make sure she was alright, but as soon as he came into the clearing, Maggie's hand flew around the corner and slapped him in forehead.

"Ow!" Diego whined, holding his forehead. He jumped when he saw it was Maggie who hit him. "Oh, Hi, Maggie..." He smiled nervously.

"If we see another cliff, you're going over it!" Maggie hissed.

"How is it we can never meet without you pointing something at me?" Angelica smiled at Jack.

"Aw, Mamá! Gross!" Diego told her.

Maggie gagged "Wipe that smirk off your face, Dad! You're a pirate not a pervert!"

Blackbeard finally caught up to them.
"You brought the chalices, Sparrow?" He asked.

"Aye" Jack said. He stepped aside to reveal Mr. Gibbs standing a good twenty feet away with a wild boar, struggling to escape. But more importantly, what was tied to the boar's back: The Silver Chalices!

"You've found a friend" Angelica stated.

"We did" Maggie nodded.

"And the one legged man" Blackbeard questioned. "He is near, aye?"

"Aye" Captain Jack answered "Now before I go just handing them over, I've one or two conditions."

"Name them" Blackbeard said.

"Firstly I'll be having me compass back!" Jack stated "No, that's secondly... Firstly, upon your word, you will no harm to Angelica!"

"But you can harm Diego all you wants!" Maggie told Blackbeard "It's no skin off my back!"

"Maggie!" Jack scolded. Then whispered under his breath "If anyone's gonna take that little turd down, it'll be me!"

"I make no vows to the likes of you, Sparrow!" Blackbeard said. "But it costs me nothing to admit they were never in any harm's way"

"Secondly then, prior to firstly!" Captian Jack continued "I will be having me compass back! ...Please? I do deserve it!"

"It's true" Maggie chimed "Do you have any idea how difficult it was to catch that filthy swine?"

"Not the big one, the four-legged one!" Jack added.

Blackbeard nodded and Angelica tossed him his compass back.

"Thank you!" Jack nodded "And thirdly! Mr. Beard, there are times, not very, often when do reflect upon my heinous misdeeds. Chief among them, I have noticed how poorly I have treated Mr. Gibbs, my loyal first mate..."

"Aye! Now that you bring it up--" Gibbs began.

"Left him to rot in jail, I did!" Jack carried on. "Didn't care, still don't! But the point being, you must let him go free!"

Blackbeard raised a brow "Is that it?"

"I think so!" Jack nodded.

"Quickly!" Maggie exclaimed. "Before the pig runs and good luck getting your mitts on those chalices then!"

"Jack, If it's all the same to you" Mr. Gibbs began "I'd be just as much--"

"Done!" Blackbeard said.

"Release the bacon!" Maggie cheered.

Gibbs grabbed the chalices and let the wild boar go free.

Blackbeard snatched the chalices and continued moving forward.

"Perhaps if you don't mind, I could tag along with you folks for a bit" Mr. Gibbs asked.

Captain Jack tossed him the compass. "This'll lead you to freedom, mate."

With that said, Mr. Gibbs departed and Maggie and Jack followed Blackbeard's gang to the Fountain.

☠💀☠

The group marched on into the jungle, they were close now Maggie knew it. There was a newfound feeling of rejuvenation in the air, it hung in the air like a refreshing mist, the feeling you can only get from being so close to the Fountain Of Youth.

Captain Jack pushed past some huge palm frond and looked around. "I could've swore it was somewhere right around here."

Maggie walked alongside him and pushed through some lower fronds, she sighed, resisting the urge to ask 'Are we there yet?' on a continuous loop.

Then something caught her eye...
A drop of water was running along the edge of one of the palm fronds in front of her. But the odd part was that this drop of water wasn't falling off the leaf like it should've been, it was running up the leaf. That little droplet of water seemed to be defying gravity.

Maggie reached out and caught the droplet on her finger. The little speck of water danced through her fingers and up to her finger tip, like a caterpillar would.

Maggie watched closely as the droplet sat on the tip of her index finger for a moment. Maggie peered through the clear drop and saw an archaic symbol carved into a rock wall in front of her. She grinned, the symbol was the same one she noticed on Ponce De Leon's map at the wreckage of the San Diego.

Maggie glanced under the symbol and saw a cave entrance alongside a pool of water.

"Dad!" She grinned "I think I found our entrance!"

☠💀☠

The landing party lit up torches and began to make their way down the steep rocky hill leading into the cave. Afterwards they made their way through a small body of water within the cave. One of the pirates reached up and touched a stone stalacite above his head. Next him a larger stalacite came down and impaled another pirate.

Captain Jack continued to lead the group, until they reached a stone wall.

"A-ha! Dead end!" Jack told everyone.

"Dead... end?" Blackbeard asked.

"Dead end!" Maggie confirmed. "It means the end is no longer breathing. Also we've run out of walking space!"

"Jack, I'm starting to think you don't know where you're going" Angelica told him.

"It's not the destination so much as the journey, they say!" Jack told her. He turned to Blackbeard "The chalices, if you please?"

Blackbeard nods to the Quartermaster who pulled the chalices out of a pouch and hesitantly hands them to Jack.

Captain Jack held one chalice in each hand and spread his arms, he glanced down at the crew.

"Stand back" he warned.

Everyone took a few steps back, preparing themselves for whatever came next.

Then with a grand flourish, Jack brought the chalices together with a clear chime.

Everyone stood in expecting silence as the chime echoed off the cave walls and faded away... but nothing happened. No magic swirly portal to the Fountain appeared before them, none of the rock walls around them slide open to reveal a secret passageway, literally nothing happened.

Captain Jack's look of confidence faltered as he clanged the chalices together again. Still nothing, nada, zip!

Angelica stepped towards him and cleared her throat. "Jack, have you ever, in fact, seen with your own eyes the Fountain of Youth?" She asked specifically.

"I'm sorry, could you repeat the question?" Jack asked.

"So we did this all for nothing?!" Diego yelled.

"Quartermaster" Blackbeard growled, furious.

The Quartermaster whipped out a pistol and aimed it at Jack. Jack put the chalices in front of his face in defense.

"No!" Blackbeard exclaimed before he could fire. "Let him witness the death of his brat first, then kill him!"

"What?!" Maggie shrieked in fear as the Quartermaster pointed his pistol directly at her head.

*BANG!*

The shot echoed off the cave walls as Maggie fell to the damp cave floor.

Captain Jack screamed in horror as he dropped the chalices and ran to her. Tears running down his face as he saw the bloody bullet wound on her forehead.

"Maggie... my baby..." Jack was sobbing so hard barely any sound cane from his lips. He sat there, cradling Maggie's little body in his lap. His daughter was dead and as the Quartermaster aimed the pistol again, Jack knew they would be reunited soon...

AN: Maggie's dead?! Oh my God! What will happen next? Don't worry! The chapter will be up momentarily!
