Captain Dumb & Captain Dumber!

Maggie Sparrow was now certain that the world had gone mad... or her father's craziness was contagious. It was hard to tell at this point...

"Trim that sail!" Captain Barbossa yelled to the crew.

"Trim that sail!" Captain Jack echoed.

"Slack the windward brace and sheet!" Captain Barbossa shouted.

"Slack the windward brace and sheet!" Captain Jack echoed.

"Haul the pennet line!" Captain Barbossa ordered.

"Haul the pennet line!" Captain Jack repeated.

Barbossa stopped and rolled his eyes at Jack. "What are ye doing?" He asked.

"What're you doing?" Jack asked him back.

"No, What arrrre ye doing?!" Barbossa yelled at him.

"What're you doing?!" Jack yelled back.

"NO! WHAT ARRRRE YE DOING?!" Barbossa shouted.

"WHAT'RE YOU DOING?" Jack shouted back.

"I'll tell you what you're both doing!" Maggie walked up between the two men. "You're standing on the deck of a ship, shouting at each other like a couple of banshee's! So, might I suggest shutting up! So we can refrain from going deaf!"

The two feuding captain's watched as the young girl walked away and went to the helm.

"Captain gives orders on the ship" Jack told Barbossa, lowering his voice slightly.

"The Captain of this ship is giving orders!" Barbossa argued.

"My ship makes me Captain!" Jack insisted.

"They be my charts!" Barbossa told Jack, holding up the map.

"Well, that makes you... chart-man!" Jack shrugged.

BANG!

Everyone on deck jumped as a gunshot rang out. They all turned to see young Maggie holding a smoking pistol in the air.

"This is the final warning for both of you!" She told them, blowing smoke off the pistol. "Get it together and shut your traps!"

"He was mocking me!" Barbossa ratted on Jack.

"He started it!" Jack tattletaled on Barbossa.

"I don't care who started it! I'll end it! And then I'll end both of you!" Maggie glared at them "And then it's gonna be known that the Black Pearl belongs to Captain Maggie Sparrow! Now stop fighting and share the ship like a couple of civil human beings!!"

Jack and Barbossa made their way up to the helm.

"Have we really just been threatened by a little girl?" Barbossa asked.

"Quiet!" Jack whispered from the corner of his mouth. "I don't think were allowed to talk while we work!"

Hehehe! I'm running the show now! Maggie thought to herself, slyly.

"Maggie?" Came a soft voice snapping her out of her thoughts.

Maggie glanced behind her to see an apologetic-looking Elizabeth Swann holding a plate of cookies.

Maggie turned away. "Can't talk" she stated "I'm ignoring you."

"Maggie" Elizabeth told her "I don't expect you to forgive me..."

"That's a good expectation!" Maggie said.

"I just want you to know that I'm really sorry... and to prove it, I made you cookies" Elizabeth said.

"I don't want you to make me cookies" Maggie pouted "I want you to build a time machine and go back in time so you can get eaten by the Kraken while Daddy and I laugh manically on the longboat while watching you suffer!"

Elizabeth sighed. "I swear I didn't know you were still on board!" She explained "There was just so many things going on at the moment that I didn't realize we had left you behind!

"A likely story... for a guilty murderess!" Maggie still refused to look at her.

"Do you at least want some cookies?" Elizabeth offered.

"Nope, nothing you can say or do will ever make this right..." Maggie told her "And don't you try to bribe me with a plate of those delicious things cause I'm not taking the bait. Just like the kraken did!"

Elizabeth sighed sadly "Alright, if you change your mind, they're right here."

She placed them on a barrel right beside Maggie and walked away.

"Trying to bribe me with cookies" Maggie scoffed "How old does she think I am? Two?"

Maggie stared down at the plate of cookies and picked one up.

"Hmm..." she inspected it "they're still warm..." She sniffed it "...and they smell like cinnamon..."

Maggie looked around to make sure no one was watching. Then she quickly dumped the plate of cookies into her skirt and used it to carry the baked goods back to her cabin.

Captain Jack noticed Maggie hurrying to her cabin with a bunch of cookies cradled in her skirt.

"Maggie, no cookies!" Jack told her "You'll spoil your dinner!"

"I didn't do it! The monkey ate 'em! You're drunk and hallucinating!" Maggie shouted excuses as she ran by.

                         ☠💀☠

That night, Maggie was hanging out with her Dad in the Captain's Cabin, which was still damaged by the Kraken attack. Barbossa took notice of that right away.

"I see you've neglected to care for my ship" Barbossa told Jack.

"What, this?" Jack asked, pointing to the still broken windows. "Just ventilating. Clear out the stench of the previous occupant."

Barbossa shook his head.

"Thinking of putting in French doors actually, I like a bit of cross breeze" Jack grinned.

"Don't make me get the pistol again!" Maggie warned them, as she studied the charts.

Just then Mr. Gibbs entered, asking for their heading.

"Two degrees starboard!" Jack ordered.

"I'm captain of the starboard side!" Barbossa told Jack. He then turned to Gibbs and ordered "Two degrees starboard! The captain will now take the helm!"

Barbossa and Jack then started to race for the helm.

"Aye, Captain's" Mr. Gibbs watched them go.

Maggie rolled her eyes. "Well, at least now I'm not the only child aboard this ship" she sighed "these two have the brains of a four year old."

When Maggie finally got up to the helm, she saw her Father and Barbossa fighting over the wheel.

"Luv! Could ye give me a hand?" Jack asked Maggie, as he tugged on his side of the helm.

"Sure!" Maggie grinned, clapping her hands. "Bravo! You two are now equally stupid! Well done!"

"Maggie!" Barbossa yelled.

"Don't you scold my child!" Jack told him "That's my job! Maggie!"

"I'm better at yelling at her than you!" Barbossa told Jack. "Maggie, stay in school!" He shouted at her to prove it.

"She doesn't go to school!" Jack told him.

"Well then find a school, go to it and stay there!" Barbossa told Maggie.

"And eat your vegetables!" Jack yelled at her, just to keep up with Barbossa.

"And read some Shakespeare!" Barbossa shouted.

"And wash behind your ears!" Jack shouted.

"And always say please and thank you!" Barbossa shouted.

"And don't talk to strangers!" Jack shouted.

The two grown men stood there panting from all the constant shouting.

"You two are just a couple of dummies, aren't ye?" Maggie asked them.

Jack and Barbossa glared at her.

"You never told me to respect my elders!" Maggie giggled, before scurrying off down to the main deck.

Maggie was leaning against the rail of the Pearl, looking up at the moon. She looked down at the sea and gasped at what she saw. A stream of lost souls surrounded the water around the ship. They looked almost like ghosts, with pale, white bodies they flowed through the water. There were all kinds of them, some were old and some were young. There were women or men and children, some were even younger than Maggie.

Maggie stared down at them with tears welling in her eyes. All of these people died in different ways and lived different lives, some of them were sailors or officers of the navy or pirates like herself. Maggie could only imagine how some of them could've lived their lives, some of them might've lived in a rich and pampered world, while some lived a life of labor and sacrifice. And yet no matter what kind of lifestyle they lived, in the end here they were, they're souls were now on their way to the land of the dead. Things like class systems, rivalries and money didn't matter anymore, they were all floating together in the same stream on their way to the same land of the dead.

Really makes you think... Maggie thought to herself.

Mr. Gibbs came up readying a rifle. "Stand back, Miss Maggie" he said.

"Don't" Will told Gibbs "They're not a threat to us." He turned to Tia Dalma "Am I right?"

"We are not but ghosts to them" Tia told them "They heed us not."

"Best just let them be" Barbossa said.

"Now it's boats coming" said Regetti.

The crew looked down at the waves to see that there were some souls floating along in rowboats...

...But one soul looked familiar. Maggie felt a pang of sadness when she noticed who it was:

"It's my father! We've made it back!" Elizabeth smiled brightly. "Father!" She called to Governor Swann "Father! Look here!"

Maggie instantly felt guilt and remorse for Elizabeth and it only grew when Jack broke the crushing news to her.

"Elizabeth..." Jack said softly, looking her in the eye. "We're not back yet..."

Elizabeth's face turned from joy to realization to pain and heartache so quickly.

"Father!" She cried to the Governor in anguish.

Governor Weatherby Swann glanced over at the ship. His face calm and his movements peaceful.

"Elizabeth!" He called back to her. "Are you dead?" He asked her in concern.

"No..." Elizabeth told him, close to tears.

"I think I am" Governor Swann said.

"No" Elizabeth shook her head "No, you can't be!"

Governor Swann began to recall his last few memories. "There was this chest, you see..." his voice calm but saddened. "How odd. At the time it seemed so important."

Elizabeth didn't care about what he was saying.

"Come aboard!" She called to him "Someone cast a line! Come back with us!"

Elizabeth's father continued on. "And the heart, I learned that if you stab the heart... yours must take it's place. The Dutchman must have a captain. Silly thing to die for."

"Take the line!" Elizabeth yelled tossing a rope to her father. But the Governor made no attempt to grab it.

Elizabeth's father looked up at her and told her:

"When I would reprimand you to obey rules, it was because I never wanted to see you unhappy. But I should have recognized your willfulness... your courage. I'm so proud of you, Elizabeth."

"The line!" Elizabeth shouted to him "Take the line!"

Tears began to run down Maggie's cheeks. Captain Jack took notice and rubbed her shoulder lovingly.

"Father! Come back with us!" Elizabeth shrieked.

She ran to the stern of the Pearl and climbed up to the rigging.

"She must not leave the ship!" Tia Dalma warned.

Everyone but Jack, Barbossa and Maggie ran to stop her.

Maggie ran from the deck and went to her cabin, shutting the door. She could still hear Elizabeth shrieking yo her father outside.

"I wouldn't leave you!" She screamed to him.

Tears continued to fall from Maggie's eyes. She felt horrible, after the way she talked to Elizabeth today and on top of it all Elizabeth just lost the only parent she had left.

But there was more about Governor Swann's death that made Maggie think.

Elizabeth and Maggie didn't have much in common as far as lifestyles go, but the one thing they did have in common was that they both only had their father's left. Seeing Elizabeth look so helpless as her father floated past her, Maggie couldn't help but imagine what that would be like for her.

What would happen if Jack died? What would she do? The pirate's life was fun, but also incredibly dangerous. Maggie's father could live for many more years or he could leave her tomorrow...

Maggie never actually thought of it.

Suddenly there was a knock at her cabin door.

Maggie quickly wiped away her tears as the door creaked open.

"Maggie?" Her father asked.

When he saw her tear-stained cheeks, he shut the door and rushed to her side.

"What's wrong, My Luv?" He asked, brushing hair out of her face.

"I'm really scared" Maggie whimpered.

"Aww, Maggie" Jack told her softly.

He held her in his lap and stroked her hair.

"When I saw Elizabeth lose her Dad, I thought about how it would be for me when..." her voice cracked as the tears began to fall.

Captain Jack already knew the rest he held Maggie against his chest rocking her. At the same time, tears pricked at his own eyes. Even though Maggie was too young to have to worry about him dying, he knew she was right. Jack and Maggie were constantly escaping death, wither on land or sea. Although the pirate's life was full of fun and freedom, it also held it's own set of challenges. The main one being survival.

Maggie was soon half asleep in her father's arms. Jack layed her down into her bed and stroked her head. She was just as precious to him now as she was the day he first saw her.

That memory reminded Jack of something. He ran briskly to his quarters, got something out of his sea chest and ran swiftly back to Maggie's room.

He sat beside Maggie's sleeping form, her sweet little face seemed full of negative emotions.

Jack took the old guitar he had retrieved from his quarters, turned it slightly and began to play the song he always used to sing to Maggie when she couldn't sleep.

(My Little Girl by Tim Mcgraw)

Jack: 🎶Gotta hold on easy as I let you go,
Going to tell you how much I love you, though you think you already know...

I remember I thought you looked like an angel, wrapped in pink, so soft and warm.

You've had me wrapped around your finger since the day you were born.

You're beautiful baby, from the outside in.

Chase your dreams but always know the road that will lead you home again.

Go on, take on this old world but to me, you know you'll always be my little girl.

When you were in trouble that crooked little smile, could melt my heart of stone.

Now look at you, I've turned around and you've almost grown.

Sometimes when you're asleep
I whisper 'I love you' in the moonlight at your door.
As I walk away, I hear you say:
'Daddy love you more!'

You're beautiful baby, from the outside in.

Chase your dreams but always know the road that will lead you home again.

Go on, take on this old world but to me, you know you'll always be my little girl.

Someday some boy will come and ask me for your hand.

But I won't say yes to him,
Unless I know, he's the half that makes you whole, He has a poet's soul and the heart of a man's man.

I know he'll say that he's in love,
But between you and me, he won't be good enough!

You're beautiful baby, from the outside in.

Chase your dreams but always know the road that will lead you home again.

Go on, take on this old world but to me, you know you'll always be...
...My little girl.🎶

When Jack finished playing and looked at Maggie, he saw her stressed expression had softened and she looked as though she were smiling softly in her sleep.

Jack tenderly kissed Maggie's forehead and went to his own cabin for the night.
