Swim
❤️💜12KKKKKKKKKKKKK💜❤️
---Geno's POV----
As soon as I hit the water my tail formed, sending a ripple of satisfaction up my spine.
I swam forwards in the dark murky water as quick as possible, not wanting to feel sudden quilt and turn back, and definitely not wanting to be caught by the Kraken.
I glanced behind me quickly to see something I hoped I'd never see.
Around the base of the jutting rock island was a mass of what looked like dying flesh. Coming out of it, tentacles, loads of them.
Massive, thick tentacles that can crush someone alive and snap a ship in half. Suckers so strong that once they launch onto something, they are not coming off.
This was the Kraken. A practically indestructible sea creature born from the depths of hell itself.
If there's any legend you should be worried about coming true, it's the Kraken.
I had honestly hoped on killing Reaper before he had opened the chest, but I hesitated. For some reason, there was hesitation.
In that split second that I took the sword from his sheath, something in my mind made me try to rethink. Try to stop what I was doing.
But I did it. I knew what my goal was, and now I've completed it. The only reason I stole that chest and the key from Nightmare and Cross is so that I could take them back to their rightful place and ensure that no one would ever find them again.
I hoped that by killing Reaper before he opened the chest, I'd be able to destroy or get rid of the key and then hide the chest.
But now it's too late. Once the chest is open, only the key holder can close the chest again and rid the sea of all its monsters and legends.
And in this case, the key holder is Cross. Who's all the way back on that ship.
So if I want this chest problem solved, then I'll need to get back there quickly.
I growled to myself as I swam through the entrance to Sirens Cove, covering my non-existent ears with my hands to block out the soft sound of melodic singing.
I really can't get distracted here. Now that the chest is open this place will be swarming with sirens.
Sirens that wreck ships and drown men. Sirens, one of the prettiest legends of the ocean, but also or of the most deadly.
Sirens. The biggest rivals to mermaids.
Sirens and mermaids have been at each other's throats for years, always fighting and always disagreeing over something.
Five years ago they attacked our kingdom and killed the queen and her son. After that, the king was so furious that he rounded them all up. Each and every siren was dragged to the ring of circles where he then trapped them in, cursing the circle so that they'd never come back unless the chest was opened.
And now here we are.
If I get spotted my even one siren...I'll be swarmed.
It'll be a bloodbath.
I swam faster, flinching and jolting whenever a simple noise came close, or if a shadow came past or flashed by.
I was so tense that my bones were starting to ache, which could cause a huge problem if I want to swim all the way back to Nightmare and Cross.
But then again, they should be closer. Surely by now they would have got all, or most of, their crew out of the water and should now be sailing in my direction.
So hopefully I won't have to swim that far.
I put on a burst of speed as the exit became clear in the murky water. Once I was out of the ring, the sirens won't be able to get or follow me.
The exit was literally a few meters away. I was a few meters away from safety. A few meters away from escape. A few meters away from freedom.
Suddenly, an incredible force barrelled me to the side, smashing me away from the exit, and before I knew it, something, raked along my tail, clawing deep into it and making me scream in pain.
I struggled weakly, the exit practically at my fingertips.
But then my vision was blocked off, blocked off by the grinning face of a siren.
---Cross' POV----
I groaned, helping heave the last crew member out of the water, gripping onto their wrists as their hands lost grip on the rope for the umpteenth time, nearly sending them spiralling back down into the water.
I lunged forwards, grabbing onto their wrists, letting out a yelp of panic as I nearly toppled over the edge and fell down with them.
The feeling of two strong warm appendages wrapping around my waist and keeping me in place helped, ensuring I wouldn't fall in.
I dragged them up, heaving them over the side of the deck where they there toppled over onto the hard wood, coughing and gasping.
"Is that all of them?" I asked as I felt Nightmare's chest press against my back, his arms wrapping round my waist and replacing the two tentacles that had stopped me from falling in a few seconds earlier.
"Yes Cross...that's all of them..."
I sighed, leaning back against him. Somehow it had taken just under four hours to get them out, which is bullshit.
Reaper must have done something to them because half of them couldn't even grip onto the ropes. And then as soon as the cold of the sea began to hit in, making it hard for them to do anything.
Nightmare buried his face into the side of my neck, inhaling deeply, making me shiver.
"Mmm...this is all my fault..."
I wriggled, turning to face him. "No it's not...how is any of this your fault?"
Nightmare smiled sadly, nuzzling me and kissing my cheek. "All those years ago, if I'd been careful and read the warnings then I wouldn't be cursed, and then I wouldn't have mutinised Reaper, and then we wouldn't be rivals and we'd probably still be working on the same ship together like nothing ever happened. And then chances are that you would have never been found, and would still be living happily in that little house of yours..."
I shook my head, wrapping my arms around the back of his neck as I looked up at him. "I'd rather go through all the shit and pain in the world but stay with you, than continuing to live my boring life on land where nothing ever happened."
Nightmare laughed softly, leaning in and pressing our foreheads together. "You're so cute~"
I blushed, pressing myself closer. "And you're so handsome~"
"Mmm, were getting distracted by each other Crossy~" Nightmare purred, a smirk forming on his face.
"We're in so much shit Nighty, can't we just savour this moment~?"
Nightmare laughed, leaning forwards to kiss me quickly. "Nope."
"What? whyyyyy..." I whined, clinging to him.
His smirk widened and he stepped back away from me, unclasping my hands from him so that he could escape.
I huffed, looking at him coldly. "Meanie..."
Nightmare stumbled back, clutching his chest in fake pain. "H-How could you...your words wound me far deeper than any sword ever could..."
"Good."
He laughed, pulling me into a hug. "Wow, harsh much?"
I giggled, hugging back. "Maybe a little bit..."
"CAPTAIN!"
We both jolted, looking over at the crew member that was stood a few meters away from us.
They were still dripping wet, and seemed half frozen to death, but still, they seemed frantic about something.
"What is it?" Nightmare growled, clearly not happy about having our session interrupted either.
"I-Its Geno..."
We both blinked. Geno?
"What about him?"
They gulped. "W-We've just spotted him in the water...w-we think he might be dead..."
