Pirates
---Cross' POV----
I sighed and looked out of my bedroom window, letting out a soft yawn as I let my eyes get used to the sunlight.
It was a beautiful day outside, birds were singing, flowers were blooming. And on days like these, socially awkward people like me, should be outside having fun instead of staying indoors and being miserable.
I've always loved the view from my window. It has the most amazing view of the rest of the village and leads out to the sparkling ocean. That's the reason I bought this house, for the view of the sea.
The sea is such a fascinating thing to me, an endless field of water, sometimes calm, the water as smooth as a sheet of glass, sometimes cruel and unforgiving, the waves crashing and booming at the sea front, throwing up rocks and coral from its depths.
As fascinating as I find the sea, I would never for the life of me actually go out there on a boat or something. I'm far to wary and wimpy to do something like that.
Our small village is forever telling tales of Krakens, Mermaids, Sirens and Pirates, firmly putting me off the idea of ever venturing off of the island.
I'm not stupid. I don't believe in stuff like the legend of the Kraken, or the stories about Sirens and Mermaids luring unsuspecting sailors and men to the water only to drown and eat them.
But Pirates...Those are something that could exist.
Gold hungry sailors with guns and swords, traveling the ocean in giant ships with the flag of a skull-and-cross-bones? Yeah, that sounds like something real to me.
I laughed to myself at the thought of men in large hats with bandanas wielding guns and swords, raiding villages and digging up buried treasure.
Heh, maybe Pirates don't sound that realistic anymore either.
I walked downstairs, still half asleep, and made myself a cup of coffee, humming to myself to break the silence.
I've always had to drink coffee. I'm the kind of person that never gets any sleep. Whenever I sleep I get the most awful Nightmares that make me wake up screaming. Then I'm often so hesitant to go to sleep that I keep myself awake with twenty four hour energy coffee.
It works. But it can't keep me awake forever.
I sighed and picked up my cup of steaming coffee before walking into the living room and sinking into one of my faded sofas.
I forced myself to take a sip of the scalding drink as I felt my eyes close a bit. I was still so tired from having literally zero sleep last night.
But sleep was not going easy on me today. I felt my conscious start to slip as the thought of sleep seemed ever more friendly.
The last thing I can remember doing, was clumsily putting my mug, still full of coffee, on the small table besides me before I fell into a deep sleep.
I was woken by the sound of alarms.
Loud, echoing, blaring alarms. I sat bolt upright in a panic, looking around frantically. That was the village alarm! The lock everything and hide alarm.
I scrambled upstairs quicker than sonic and stumbled into my room, stopping at my window and looking out over the village to try see what the problem was. It had to be big to cause someone to set of the whole village alarm. That could only be set of at the most serious of situations.
I nearly choked as I saw what had caused such panic.
It was a ship.
The biggest ship I'd ever seen, with ripped black sails and torn rigging. The entire thing looked like it had just been spewed up from the depths of hell. And that's not the creepiest part. Attached to the top mast, were the crows nest was, a black flag with a white skull-and-cross-bones flew.
Pirates.
I watched, frozen as the ships crew jumped off and down onto the islands docking port, the shine of swords all to clear from where I was watching.
I felt a chill run up my spine as a figure jumped down from the ship. They clearly were in charge, sending their crew off by pointing at places. They immediately followed his orders and ran round the village, terrified screams already starting to ring out.
Then they moved. I was frozen as the figure slowly turned round and looked dead at me. One blue eye piercing into my soul. I managed to tear my eyes away from them and stumble away from the window. But by then it was already to late. They had started walking off the pier, and through the village. Heading right for me.
I stood there for a moment, panicking before I slapped myself and ran back to the window, locking it tightly before skidding out of my room to lock all the other windows and then the doors downstairs.
I froze at the top of the stairs as voices rang out. I looked around frantically, painfully aware of how my windows were wide open and my door was unlocked.
As the voices drew even closer I ran down the rest of the stairs to the kitchen, frantically rummaging through draws until I found my largest, sharpest kitchen knife. It's about as long as half my arm, and slices through practically anything.
It would be useless against a gun, but it still gave me that tiny spike in confidence.
I nearly yelped and dropped the knife as someone banged on the door.
"OPEN UP!" They yelled.
I growled softly and backed up against the counter. There was no point in hoping they would leave, thinking no one was in. That dark figure had seen me, they knew I was hear.
But then again, there's no way in hell that I'm just gonna waltz up there and open the door for them only to get shot, killed, or kidnapped.
Another flurry of aggressive banging rang out, followed by a shouted threat of what would happen if I didn't open the door.
I flinched and stood my ground, praying that they'd give up and leave, go off to terrorise someone else. Selfish I know, but that's exactly what anyone would be thinking right now. Isn't it?
"FINAL CHANCE!"
I didn't move.
A booming splinter echoed through the house and I let out a whimper, my eyes trained on the kitchen door. It was still open a crack, in my panic to rush down for the knife, I'd been careless by not shutting the door properly.
I could hear people running in the house, the sound of shoes clomping up the stairs ringing out as the Pirates started searching my house.
I shivered and adjusted my grip on the handle of the knife. I was terrified. I knew there was no way I'd escape this, I can only delay the inevitable.
I went tense as a shadow blocked the small gap in the door. A dark chuckle emitted from outside, and before I could even react, the door swung open.
I froze at the sight in front of me.
It was the Captain. A towering figure, dressed in a long black coat with red edges, long dark trousers, black boots, and a typical Pirate Captain hat.
His ghostly grin sent a shiver down my spine and his piercing blue eye seemed to look right into my soul, reading all my current emotions perfectly.
He had a gun in a holder attached to the belt around his waist along with a rather menacing looking sword sheathed by his side.
But all of that was overlooked quickly, my attention completely focused on the wriggling tentacles that seemed to grow from his back. There were four of them. Four thick, black, dripping tentacles, all covered with the same dark slime that seemed to cover the Pirates whole body.
I took a step back, trembling in fear. He took a step forwards, his eye scanning my face before resting on my knife.
"T-Take one m-more step and I'll stab you!" I warned, wincing at how much I'd stuttered.
He simply laughed and took another step forwards.
I panicked and threw the knife.
It went right for his head, seconds away from splitting his skull in half. But it didn't make it that far.
The knife stopped, a few inches away from his face, one of the black tentacles wrapped firmly round its handle.
"Now now~" He chuckled, dropping the knife and walking closer. "That wasn't very nice, was it~?"
I shook with fear and backed myself up against the counter, looking around desperately for any ways to escape.
I yelped and looked down as I felt something cold and slimy wrap round my ankle. It was a tentacle.
Before I could even blink another tentacle wrapped around my waist, a third pinning my hands together behind my back.
I struggled and went to call for help, but the fourth tentacle cut me off, wrapping round my mouth as a gag, muffling my terrified screams.
I thrashed and squirmed desperately, kicking my legs frantically, hoping to hit one of the monstrous tentacles so that they'd loosen or let me go.
They only tightened, squeezing me painfully tight, making my bones crack in some places.
I let out an agonised whimper and shut my eyes, looking away as my attacker walked closer, only stopping when we were literally touching. I could feel his soft breath on my face and I could practically picture his eye scanning my face, an unreadable look on his face.
I opened my eyes a crack and looked at him nervously. Why hadn't he killed me yet? What was he waiting for?
He was looking down at something. A piece of paper with messy writing scrawled across the faded paper. He looked at it for a moment, reading the words before looking back up at me, a frown on his face.
I watched, terrified, as he lifted a hand up to my face. I immediately shut my eyes and whimpered, assuming he was going to slap me.
But instead I felt his hand gently cup my cheek, his thumb rubbing across my zigzag scar softly.
I looked at him, confused and scared as I watched his frown turn into a smirk.
He leaned closer to me, our faces a breath away from each other.
"Found you~"
