Mauled

---Nightmare's POV----
Geno was a mess.
A few members of the crew had managed to loop some rope around him and drag him up onto the ship.
They weren't kidding when they said he might be dead.
There was practically nothing left of him.
His arm bones were covered in long, deep scratches, open and bleeding. His wound on his chest seemed even worse, it was wider and deeper than ever before.
What was the most shocking and concerning however, was his tail. Geno's mermaid half activates as soon as his legs enter a large mass of water they transform into a tail.
His tail has always been scarred and slightly ripped at the fins as far as I'm concerned. But now. There was hardly any tail left.
Massive bloodied chunks had been torn from it, scales and flesh ripped all the way down. The thin fins at the end of the tail were in tatters, clawed to shreds.
Already his blood was already seeping out onto the deck, staining the wood crimson.
I felt Cross join me by my side, a faint gasp escaping him as he saw the state Geno was in.
"Wh-What happened to him?" He stuttered.
I sighed, reaching down and taking his hand, intertwining our fingers. "I don't know..."
Cross gulped, looking him up and down. "I-Is he alive?"
Before I could answer Geno let out a sudden choked cough before tilting his head to the side and throwing up, coughing and gasping, his chest moving up and down weakly as he fought to gulp down air.
"Get Ink over here!" I yelled, looking around for the small artistic healer.
"C-Coming!"
Within a few seconds Ink stumbled through, pushing the crew members out of the way only to freeze as he saw the state Geno was in.
"Oh God..." He breathed, a hand covering his mouth as he looked Geno up and down with wide eyes. "What happened to him?!"
"We don't know okay!" I snapped, growling. "Just try and heal him. We have questions to be asked and he probably has the answers."
Ink gulped, nodding quickly as he knelt down next to Geno, his eyes scanning over the wounds and breaks.
"Um...i-it would be easier if you u-un-form your tail s-so that I can heal your legs...which will be e-easier..."
Geno hissed, shutting his eye tightly before tensing up, letting his magic fade and his mauled tail disappear, being replaced with a pair of shattered and bloodied legs.
Ink winced, setting a hand over one of the bloodied chunks on Geno's leg. Geno cried out weakly in pain, curling up and clutching himself, his fingers digging into his already shattered arms.
"Relax..." Ink muttered as the healing magic started flowing out of his hands and around one of the large gashes on Geno's leg.
Geno flinched before going limp, his chest now rising at a calmer rate, not in uneven jolts.
Sudden movement from my right made me jolt, looking to the side to see Cross step forwards and walk over to Geno and Ink.
"Cross?"
He didn't react, keeping his focus on the half dead merman as he crouched down next to him.
Geno hissed weakly at him, his eye narrowing as he looked up at him. "Go away..."
Cross shook his head, a deadly serious look on his face. "What did you do to the chest."
Geno winced, letting out a puff of air. "Reaper opened it..."
Cross and I both growled at the same time, glaring at Geno.
"Don't worry...you won't have to deal with Reaper ever again..." Geno muttered, looking down suddenly.
"And why might that be?" Cross asked, his voice laced with anger.
"B-Because...because he's dead..."
Immediately a ripple of conversation flowed through the crew that were still surrounding the ship.
"Everyone shut up!" I yelled.
Immediately they cut off, going silent in an instant.
"Why is he Dead?" Cross asked, glancing at me.
Geno shut his eyes, sighing. "Because I-I...I killed him..."
I raised an eyebrow, looking Geno up and down. "You killed him?"
Geno nodded softly. "My whole plan was to get the chest back to its rightful place and then hide it or destroy the key. I know for a fact that the key can only be destroyed there, but you need so much shit to do it, and I was hoping I'd have more time.
In reality I'd planned on killing Reaper before he opened the chest, but hesitation fucked that up for me. Instead I stabbed a sword threw his soul a few seconds after he'd opened it, being too late.
If I had done it in time, like I'd planned, then I would have taken all the time needed to destroy the key and hide the chest somewhere else.
But of course. Things didn't go to plan..."
Cross hissed softly, standing up and walking back over to me. "We're in a lot of shit Nighty...but we can fix it...we just need to be quick..."
I nodded, gripping onto his hand softly. "And how will we fix it?"
"We need to go back to the cave...and lock the chest back up...once we've done that the legends will disappear again and leave the sea at peace..."
I frowned. "That seems too easy..."
Cross shrugged. "It's the only way..."
I sighed, pulling him to my chest as I looked Geno up and down to see how his injuries were dealing.
His legs were...better. They were spiderwebbed with cracks and had chunks and chips missing, but were overall better than before.
Ink had healed the wound on his chest a bit and stopped the flow of blood coming from it.
"I-I can't heal any more right now..." Ink muttered as he got back up to his feet, swaying slightly.
Healing takes away your energy a lot. So form Ink to do that much, he's probably drained.
The crew moved aside as Error pushed through and gently took hold of Ink, letting him lean back against him.
"Error, take Ink to somewhere he can sleep or rest. I have a feeling his powers will be needed a lot on this journey..."
Error nodded and slowly led Ink away, heading down to bottom deck where it was quieter and less noisy.
I sighed, burying my face into the crook of Cross' neck. "Mmm...we need to set a course..."
Cross snickered, nodding as he pulled away from me and walked up to top deck where the wheel is.
I whined, following him.
Once up there, Cross was already looking down at a map, his finger tracing softly over the longitudinal and latitudinal lines.
I went over and hugged him from behind, resting my head on his shoulder and looking at what he was doing. "You can read maps?"
Cross nodded, kissing my cheek quickly before turning his attention back to the map in front of him. "I was taught a long time ago..."
"Cool..."
Cross sighed, suddenly turning around to face me. "We're going to have to go through siren cove..."
I nodded, nuzzling him. "It's okay, you're with a professional~"
Cross smirked, wrapping his arms around the back of my neck as I did the same for his waist. "Is that so~?"
"Mmhm~"
I glanced to the side as Error walked up, checking the map and calculating some stuff before yelling orders to the crew. Seeing as I was...occupied.
I leant against Cross as the ship started sailing across the sea at a decent pace.
I sighed, looking down at Cross. "We're all going to die..."
Cross smirked, leaning up to kiss me softly. "We're all going to die Nighty...just not today."
