[37] Beep, Beep, Beep
We were sitting outside in the waiting room, Aunt May to my left and (y/n)'s parents to my right. I've explained everything to them. I've told them about Spider Man being involved, but I didn't say it was me. The only lie I said to tie everything together was, "Mr. Stark knew I was dating her, so he called me once he found her with Spider Man."
Mr. (l/n)'s knee was bouncing impatiently, his hand pressed against his temple. Mrs. (l/n) was holding her two hands together, looking down at the blue tiled floor of the waiting room. Aunt May was holding my hand. Her head was bowed down, her eyes closed. As for me, I didn't move at all.
I couldn't move because I was silently thinking of that fight. I couldn't help thinking it being my fault why the four of us are sitting on blue cushioned chairs in a hospital. I remembered (y/n)'s face, her helpless, scared face. Now thinking about it, why didn't I push that rock off my lap? Was I already trying my best and I'm just overestimating my strength?
It happened so fast. Everything happened as the seconds went on. It's true that one second could completely change your life.
To break from my thought, a doctor walked throw the push doors and nodded at the four of us. We all got up and followed him.
Waking down the hall, I felt my knees get tight as they bent with each step. I didn't know if I was ready to see (y/n), but then again, how can I not? The doctor quickly talked to (y/n)'s parents with what I heard was murmur. My focus was on my feet, making sure I don't collapse.
As we took a turn, I saw her.
Walking into the room, she was on the white hospital bed in a baby blue paper gown. She had a tube in her mouth and an IV also connected to her inner elbow. I then noticed a cast on her other arm, which was bent, indicating a broken forearm. Eyeing down her unmoved body, she had a cast that went from her foot to just above the knee. I bit my lip at the sight.
Aunt May took a seat on the one side of the bed as (y/n)'s parents themselves stood on the other side, looking down at their precious daughter. I took the stance next to Aunt May.
"She's definitely going to be okay. We just need to keep her here for 2 weeks until she can be completely aware of her surroundings. She hasn't woken up yet, so that might take some time. For now, I'll update you on how she'd doing." The doctor announced as he scribbled on paper clipped to a board. (Y/n)'s parents thanked the doctor and he left the room with a reassuring smile.
(Y/n)'s dad took her hand that wasn't in the cast and held it in his big one. He rubbed the back of her hand with his thumb as Mrs. (l/n) patted down (y/n)'s hair as a couple tears rolled down her already stained cheeks.
I just looked down at (y/n)'s body. She wasn't moving at all and it scares me. I know she's breathing, but I could barely see her chest rise and fall.
"My poor, baby. You're gonna be okay, everything's gonna be alright." I hear Mrs. (l/n) say breathily with a quiet tone, as if (y/n) was just a first born, opening her eyes and ears to the world.
I press my hands on the edge of the bed as I heard the heart monitor.
*beep*
*beep*
*beep*
Looking at (y/n), I noticed she had scratches on her cheek, a couple long ones going past her jaw. There was also a gauze on top of her head and a red stain was in the middle. Seeing her like this, I let a tear slip past my eyes. It burned, but it was begging for me to let go the sadness and regret that was building up.
"We're gonna have to visit every day until she's released." Mrs. (l/n) stated, stroking (y/n)'s cheek. "Oh (m/n) you don't have to." Aunt May interjects, leaning forward a little in her chair.
Mrs. (l/n) looks up at Aunt May with a sad smile. "I want to. I want to be with her every step of her recovery."
Seeing a good amount of room beside the bed, I knelt down on the floor, the bed just below my shoulders. I placed my head on a space of the bed, next to (y/n)'s fingers. I took my hand and began nimbly playing with her unmoved hand, touching her veins on the back and feeling the lines on her palm. It felt like I was doing such an action for quite some time.
"I'm gonna bring you a rose every day until you get out of this bed." I mumble since my cheek was pressed against my arm that was on the bed beside her thigh. I knew (y/n) probably didn't hear me, but I felt like I should be personal.
Turning my head to rest on my chin, I looked at (y/n)'s parents. They were still in shock seeing her daughter in such a broken state. Then, Mrs. (l/n) looked at me and gave a soft smile.
"You know she really likes you." Mrs. (l/n) kept petting (y/n)'s hair. I raise my eyebrows slightly. "She's always smiling down at her phone and every time I take a glance at her screen, it's always related to you."
I let out a soft chuckle, still playing with (y/n)'s fingers. "That's like Peter, too." I hear Aunt May behind me laugh a little. I start to feel some heat rise to my cheeks. Mrs. (l/n) then let's out a slightly bigger grin as she and Aunt May laughed a little.
As the two ladies, along with Mr. (l/n), talked softly about (y/n) and I, or about us and school, I continued to look at (y/n) in the bed.
This whole time I was trying to push away the thought that this was my fault. Those scratches and broken leg and arm are because of me, because I couldn't save her.
All of a sudden, the heart monitor began beeping a little faster than before. Everyone in the room went silent, turning their heads to the black screen and green line that's jumping up and down. Looking back at (y/n), her head turns a little and I felt my heart skip a beat.
After a minute or two, I knew the unexpected wouldn't happened. (Y/n) was still laying on the bed, her eyes closed. Maybe she wouldn't be waking up today. I heard Mrs. (l/n) sigh sadly from across the bed. I stood up from my kneeling position after.
"We can come back tomorrow. We can wait" (Y/n)'s dad states, putting his hands on Mrs. (l/n)'s shoulders. Before both of them turned around, Aunt May stood up slowly.
"W-would you like some dinner?" I hear Aunt May behind me. (Y/n)'s parents turned around to look at Aunt May and I. In the corner of my eye, Aunt May gives a friendly grin.
"Oh May, you don't ha–" "It's okay! I insist! Once we get to the apartment, I'll cook something up." Aunt May walks past me and to the two other parents.
Before I knew it, Aunt May was leading (y/n)'s parents to the doors. I assumed they've said their goodbyes until tomorrow, so I took this quick minute to say mine.
I took (y/n)'s hand in my fingers again and felt her soft skin under my fingertips. I didn't say anything, having the thought that maybe (y/n) wouldn't hear me anyways. Instead, I looked at (y/n) longingly, trying to paint the image in my brain of what's left of her beautiful face without the scratches.
"I'll be back tomorrow," I thought right before I let go of (y/n). "I'll be sure to bring you a rose as well."
