[36] The Heart Monitor
Karen was working like a heart monitor. She rang a beep for every pulse she felt of (y/n). They were agonizingly slow beeps, but I could hear them.
A smile spread across my face as I finally brushed dirt away from (y/n)'s cheek that I have managed to dig up. I pushed more rocks off from above her, trying to get her out of the pile.
Turning to the fight behind me, a blast lit up the construction site. I squinted at the bright light, seeing Blind being thrown back into more concrete, ruining the construction workers' work.
I went back to (y/n), completely freeing her limp body from the rubble. Karen kept sounding the beeps and it was the only thing giving me hope. I picked up (y/n)'s body and managed to put her on my lap.
I looked down at her. It was heartbreaking.
There was dirt and new scratches starting to bleed on her forehead, jaw, chest, arms and maybe her legs, but she was wearing long pants.
"Try not to move too much, Peter." I hear Karen as I put my gloved hand over (y/n)'s wounded cheek. My heart started to feel heavy again and it felt like it fell in the pit of my stomach. I looked down at the woman I couldn't protect. It was my fault. She's like this, because of me.
"Peter your heart rate is going up rapidly. Are you okay?" Karen then asks. I couldn't reply. Only a quiet sob gave her an answer. "She's going to be okay. Mr. Stark called for help."
That's when I turned around to see what's behind me. Ironman was standing tall as Blind was on the floor completely defeated. His mask was also complete ripped, showing who was under the suit.
I started to feel anger at the person who was on the ground, under Mr. Stark. But I stayed where I was, with (y/n), because she's much more important. All of a sudden, I see (y/n)'s chest ride and fall slightly. I gasp, gently placing my hand just below her collarbone.
"It's okay, (y/n). You're gonna be okay." I whisper down next to her ear, not really knowing if she could hear me.
Then, I heard sirens. Looking up, I see red, white, and blue flashing lights. In the next minute, cops were coming from over the pile of dirt, pointing their guns in front of them with flashlights. Ironman stepped back, putting his arms up. He got checked by a cop, but since he's Ironman, the policeman didn't have any skepticism.
As for Mikey, he was passed out on the ground, face all dirty and black from the concrete dust. Three cops approached him slowly with their guns loaded. I couldn't watch what else would happened when a light was pointed in my eyes, blinding my sight. Another cop was approaching me and she put her gun away when she saw me with (y/n) on my lap.
"We need paramedics." She stated in her receiver as she looked at me. Then she gave a soft smile. "She's gonna be in good hands."
"Let go of me!!!" I hear Mikey's voice from behind me. By now, ambulance was rolling a stretcher in my direction. I let the authorities take (y/n) and I look at her one more time before they pick her up and put her body on the tarp part of the stretcher.
"You're the kid that goes to Midtown!!" A cop exclaimed. I made a 180° turn to where Mikey and the three cops were. Mikey didn't reply, being in too much pain.
Paramedics were already taking (y/n) to the ambulance so I walked my way next to Mr. Stark.
"Yeah he's the one who parents called out on a few days ago, you know... about–" "Oh right, right."
I feel myself tense up at that night.
"How does it feel," I speak up. The four people in front of me look in my direction and, with my mask still on, I step forward to Mikey.
"Karma's a bitch, Mikey." I shrug nonchalantly at the tall athlete. I see his unmasked eyes open wide to the sound of his name. I secretly smirk as he tried to interrogate me as to how I knew his name. He couldn't give out a full sentence because the cops were already taking him away.
By the time everything started to slow down, Mr. Stark and I left the construction site and headed for an isolated area in the city. Once we did, I took off my mask, feeling the cold air hit my hot and sweaty face, making it feel relieving from this night.
"How are we gonna explain this to her family?"
That question made Mr. Stark open his mask, the metal retrieving itself to the back. His helmet followed, soon disappearing under the metal. I watched as his eyes wandered around in thought, finally stopping at the ground.
"Its best to tell the truth. It's not the easiest way, but it's for the better." Mr. Stark looked at me long as I processed his answer. I lightly bit the inside of my cheek as I began to nod.
"You're right." I reply breathily. "And that I am!" Mr. Stark patted my back as his helmet went back around his head. He started to fly up, but before he was higher than my shoulders, he faced me.
"Don't tell anyone else you're Spider Man. We don't need other people getting hurt. You're lucky I watched through the suit today."
My eyebrow raises at his comment. I suddenly remember the moment on the hill with (y/n), where everything was meant to be for only the two of us.
"So... does that mean you saw–" "I did." I felt my cheeks getting hot, but I thanked the timing since it was dark outside already. "But I'm gonna pretend I didn't because I know those kinds of things are precious. I'm just looking out for you, kid."
I nod, putting my mask back on to brush off the awkwardness I was starting to feel. "Thanks." I look up at the now masked man flying above me. He gave me a salute and I took it as a sign to start heading for my apartment.

"MAY!! WE NEED TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL!!" I scream after I changed into regular clothes and hid my suit in my room. I run down my steps, luckily finding Aunt May at the couch with a book in hand.
She shot up from her position and looked at me with serious confusion. Panting, I continued. "(Y/N) IS IN THE HOSPITAL." I made myself more dramatic by flaring my arms. "WAIT WHAT?!" Aunt may stands up abruptly. I nod as I jog to the door.
"Mr. Stark told me because of this villain. I'm not making sense right now, but we need to tell (y/n)'s parents!!" I didn't know I could speak as fast as I could run. "I'll explain later!!" I reply as I heard Aunt May start to ramble with questions and reactions.
*time skip*
Knocking on (y/n)'s door, I bounced on my feet impatiently, waiting for someone to open the door.
After a couple seconds, Mr. (l/n) appeared.
"Mr. (l/n)!! We need to go to the hospital with your wife!! It's about (y/n)!!" I urged on trying to get everyone on board. Aunt May was waiting on the street in her car as she watched me try to explain everything.
"Wait wait, Peter, slow down." Mr. (l/n) put his hands out to me. I furrowed my brows. "In all do respect sir, but your daughter was seriously injured." As I finished the sentence, (y/n)'s mom appeared at the door. "What's going on?"
"Mrs. (l/n), (y/n) was hurt." Mrs. (l/n)'s eyebrows knit in confusion and worry. "She wasn't in her room. We thought she snuck out!"
"There's so much to explain, but I have to do it in the car and if you two would please trust me..." I turn my body halfway to show Aunt May's car, Aunt May revealing herself in the driver's seat with the window rolled down.
Mr. (l/n) looked at me, then at Aunt May, then back at me. (Y/n)'s parents looked at each other and then nodded.
