[34] Over the City Lights
*Your POV*
It was a Sunday evening and you were outside on your balcony. You listened to the streets and felt the cool air blow against your skin. Your hair was dancing with the wind as well and this moment felt peaceful.
But then that peace was broken when you heard the distant sounds of webs being slung. You sighed as you looked up on the open street, maybe trying to find who you think it was.
You were looking into the main road when you heard metal screeches from the table and chair behind you. You turned around sharply and your heart almost exploded when you saw Spider Man casually sitting in the chair.
You stared at Spider Man, or Peter, and he stared back through his mask. There weren't any words until he spoke up.
"Are we not gonna talk again and just have a staring contest?" You heard Peter's voice.
You remembered when Peter said something similar like that. It was when you two started to become a thing, which was a long time ago.
"I have nothing to say." You shrug nonchalantly, turning back to the railings of your balcony. "I think you have a lot to say. You just can't find what to say first."
Then you felt a hand on your bicep. Turning to the man next to you, you looked up at his face.
"Can I take you somewhere? I want to tell you something, but not here." Peter's voice came through the mask again. He sounded a little nervous. You looked at him, thinking about your decision.
"You know I'm scared of heights." You pointed out. Peter nodded. "Yeah I know. But you don't always have to look down."
Now fully turning to Peter, you kept thinking.
"But what about my parents?" You weren't trying to find a reason to not go with Peter, but you were thinking about what could happen if you did.
"It'll be quick." Peter tugged at your forearm. Giving out a breath, you finally nodded.
"Just don't swing so recklessly like last time." You chuckled, remembering how he brought you home the first time. "I won't."
*time skip*
With your eyes still shut, Peter finally stopped moving. You felt the ground below you and it sounded like you were stepping on grass. You opened your eyes and you were met with an unmasked Spider Man. His hair was somehow perfect from removing the mask. Peter softly smiled down at you as he took his arm away from your waist.
"Where are we?" You turn around and your answer was given to you.
You two were on a hill that overlooked the city of New York. The sun was also setting which allowed colors of orange, salmon, and pink to paint the sky. The view was breathtaking.
"Oh my god it's gorgeous." You gasp as you looked at the scenery before you. Peter walked up next to you, standing fairly close.
"You are, too."
You looked at Peter with raised eyebrows. He only gave a childish grin and you smiled at his compliment.
"Why did you take me up here?" You finally ask. Peter took his bottom lip in between his teeth, taking a couple moments to gather what he needed to say.
Then he took both of your hands and held it in his red-gloved ones. You felt him squeeze your palms.
"I want to say that I love you." He spits out. Your eyes look up at him, but they're saying that you already knew that. "I love you too, Peter." You reply in a more quiet voice.
"No, (y/n). I love you. Like I can't live without you." Peter pulls your hands towards him a little as he tried to say what's on his mind. You were slightly confused, but you listened.
"Having this break had me thinking and I realized that you're a very important person to me, (y/n)." Your eyes went wide.
"You're the one who has made me a better person ever since we met. I mean, have you noticed I've been doing a bit better in school?" You heard Peter's voice crack a little as if he was about to cry.
"A-and with this whole, Spider Man thing.." Peter looks down to hide from your eyes. "I've wanted to tell you when the time was right because I didn't want this," Peter motions to his suit, "to make anything worse."
"But I do this kind of thing because of you, or for you. All I want is for you to be safe and I can never forgive myself for those past times I've failed." You looked up at Peter, seeing his brown eyes get watery.
"You know you could've gotten hurt, Peter." Your voice was a whisper to his ears. Peter nodded. "Yeah and that's the thing. If I could be thrown into a building, knowing that you won't get hurt, I would."
Peter's hands tighten around yours. You felt your heart swell at his words that he was giving to you right now. You didn't know what to say or how to respond, but it was fine because Peter kept going.
"You mean so much to me, (y/n). Too much, if I'm not lying. Every time I fight crime, I make sure I come home so I can see you the next day. You're my motivation to stay strong and the fact that you exist makes me determined to do what I do, even if I'm still in high school and I have a Spanish test the next day." Peter let's out a soft chuckle to relief himself of the heavy words he spoke. You chuckle with him, stepping closer to the brunette.
"You don't deserve me, (y/n)." Peter's voice said very very quietly. He looked into your eyes to maybe find something that shows him that he does deserve you. "Don't say that, Peter." You massage his hands as you saw the sadness in his eyes.
"I don't, (y/n). You're so amazing and beautiful and funny and caring..." Your mouth twitched a sad smile as he listed. Peter brought his head down again.
"But who am I? I'm just a kid who doesn't deserve a woman who's been through hell and back." "Peter." You put a hand under his chin, brining his head up to look at you.
"We deserve each other." You saw how Peter almost let a tear go. "Like me, you've also changed me for the better. When I transferred to Midtown, I knew no one. Until literally 5 minutes into me entering the school, I met you." You let out a chuckle as the corner of Peter's mouth went up.
"From there you made me feel like I'm your best friend. You make school bearable and my boring life a little more entertaining." Putting your hand back in Peter's, you looked down and played with his fingers.
"You make me happy, Peter. My therapist told me to be with people that bring me joy, and that's you. You're the one who's helping me deal with this trauma and frankly, I'm doing a lot better than I thought. Sure I'm still not entirely okay, but even when you text me, it makes me day a little better." Your hopeful tone brought a small smile out of the boy in front of you. You then flicked your eyes between you two.
"And when I found out you were Spider Man, I was shocked and terrified and really confused. Everything was making sense when I remember how you fought Mikey, how you had to leave when there was something sketchy happening, and the voice I heard when you visited me on my balcony the first time... it all makes sense now." You took a deep breath.
"Even thought we fight and things are happening that are so difficult to comprehend, I will still love you for the guy I met. Spider Man or not, as long as you're still the boy I met a few months ago, I will never give up on you." You took your hands from Peter's and put them around his neck. You take your thumbs and push up his chin to make him look at you. By now, Peter was silently crying and you were about to follow his actions because of this moment.
"(Y/n)..." He whispers, hanging a hand on your wrist. "Remember that time after you fought Mikey and I nursed you?" Peter nodded. "You said that you would always tell me you love me. That's what I'm gonna do. I'll tell you I love you every single day, maybe even 5 times a day." You let out a joking chuckle.
Peter's mouth twitches a smile as you felt his hands go to your waist. "But I mean it, Peter. I mean all that I've said. And I'll always remind you that whatever happens to me, isn't always your fault. This whole thing," You flicked your finger between you two, "isn't your fault."
"Pinky promise me that we'll always brace through with whatever life decides to throw at us?" You held out your pinky. "And that we'll always make sure we're going on strong." Peter adds before wrapping his pinky around yours.
Peter finally smiled, showing that perfect face you love. You brought your hand back to his neck as Peter did to your waist.
"I love you, (y/n)." He presses his forehead onto yours. You smile, moving your elbows to rest on his shoulders. "I love you, Peter."
Then as expected, you two leaned into each other and interlocked your lips in a deep kiss. It felt like forever since you two kissed and you were glad it's happening now.
Peter brought you closer by pulling your waist and you only tightened your arms around him. You felt his body heat radiate onto you and it was very comforting. It felt like home.
You two pulled away from each other and once you opened your eyes, Peter was already looking down at you. In his eyes, you saw love and adoration that it made your heart beat fast, like how it used to.
*boom* *explosions* *screams*
In sync, you and Peter looked down at the city. It was getting close to night. The sun was now hidden behind orange clouds and the sky was painted a light navy blue.
"What the hell?" Peter sharply whispered as he watched flames appear at one side of the city.
