[29] Old Friends
*Your POV*
"Let's go, (y/n)!!" You hear your mom from the bottom of the steps. You were just throwing on a swim suit cover to finish up with getting ready. You grabbed your bag filled with sunblock, a towel, snacks, extra clothes, a pair of sunglasses, iPhone charger, wallet, and makeup. Then you jogged your way down the steps.
Your mom was pushing you out the door as your dad started the car.
"I still don't understand why we have to leave early!" You gave a slight chuckle as you got into the backseat of your dad's car. It was only 9 am and you were tired, but excited.
"So we can get a spot at the beach! It gets crowded at noon!" You mom replied hurriedly as she rummaged through her bag, making sure she got what she needed.
You rolled your eyes, starting to get comfy in the car since it was a bit of a drive. Your dad began moving out from his parking spot onto the busy streets of New York.
*time skip*
You three got to Jones Beach in an hour and a half. When you and your mom were carrying your bags and your dad was pulling the ice cooler with an umbrella, there weren't many people settled yet.
You took this time to find a good spot on the sand. Somewhere close to the water, but not too far from it. It didn't take that long before you dropped your stuff.
Your mom began pulling out towels for you to lay on. Your dad was already opening a cold one. "Dad you're gonna be driving!" You remind him. He bounces his eyebrows, taking note of your statement. "Plus it's still morning!!" You playfully tell him as your mom hands you sunblock.
"It's okay, I'll drive if he forgets." Your mom rolls her eyes as your dad puts down the beer. You laugh as you apply sunblock on your arms.
Then you took off your cover up and dropped your body on the towel, exposing your favorite swimsuit. You made sure you got every inch of your skin covered with sunblock because ain't no way you were getting weird tan lines.
Finishing, you kneeled on to your towel, taking out everything you need from your bag.
"(Y/n)?" You hear a familiar voice. You turn around, squinting a little from the sun. You gasped and got up.
"Becky!!" You squeal as you open your arms to her. "Oh my god I haven't seen you in like, what, two or three months?" You giggle as you looked at your best friend from your old school.
"It's been too long!!" She jumps while holding your hands. Behind her, you see Becky's family coming over. "HIII!!" You wave dramatically at her family. Becky's family was like your second one.
"Hi, Mr. and Mrs. (l/n)!" Becky moves over to greet your parents. You watched as Becky's family went to settle their stuff next to you.
For the next ten minutes, both families were greeting each other and getting back together. The parents were talking about how you at Midtown was going great (for the most part) and you and Becky were just overly excited to see each other unexpectedly.
For the whole day, you and Becky hung out amongst yourselves. You two walked to the shore and got into the cold ocean water. At some point you two were taking candid pictures of each other like how you both used to do. One of you planned to post something on Instagram.
You and Becky talked about what it's been like since you moved schools. Becky told you that the annoying teacher in her school finally quit, but it was weird since it was in the middle of the school year. You were relieved, but also kind of disappointed since you had to deal with that teacher before you left. She also told you about what the latest gossip was and what happened to the star athlete of the school. In a nutshell, he was caught playing the field and the group of girls he 'dated' all ganged up on him and told him off during a school assembly. You couldn't stop laughing.
It was your turn to tell your story. Of course, you told the basics about meeting new friends. You told her about Peter and how you two were dating. Becky's face lit up with excitement. But when you told her that things were getting difficult, her face went into worry.
"But it's okay! I'm fine! We're just on weird grounds." You reassured as you felt the waves crash into your ankles.
Then you began to tell Becky what's been happening with you. You trusted her and you needed another ear to vent to.
"Pinky promise this only stays between us." You put out your pinky for Becky to interlock. She did it without hesitation. "Still doing that thing, huh?" Becky chuckles as she lets go.
You proceeded to tell Becky about how you met Spider Man and how he talked to you. With that, you added in how you were taken by some villain you forgot the name of and how Spider Man saved you.
Becky was only listening and staring at you with complete shock. She couldn't form a word when you noticed her stiff figure.
You continued with telling her about what happened a couple days ago and Becky had fear in her eyes. Then you told her about how you're seeing a therapist and that you're much better than that night.
"Oh my god I thought you were gonna–" "No, no!" You stop her. "Thank god, no." You looked down at your feet in the sand.
"(Y/n) I'm so sorry about that. Am I the only one that knows, aside from your family?" Becky's voice softens. You turn around beginning to walk up the shore. "Yeah, well, Peter knows too. That's why things haven't been going great lately with him. Other things are just making it complicated, too." You scoffed at the last part.
"Things are gonna get better, I promise." She puts a hand on your forearm and you smile at your best friend.
"I missed you, Becky." You grin. Becky only 'awes' and engulfs you in a tight hug. You almost forgot how strong her arms were.
"Okay, forget about that sad shit! Do you remember how to build a sand castle?" You got down on your knees by the wet sand once Becky let go of you. She scoffs with a grin. "Of course!" She mirrors your position and grabs a handful of sand to only slap it on the ground. "The base!" You laugh at her humor.
It was like you two were inseparable. Building sand castles, hanging out at the beach, taking pictures of each other, and being the best friends you were to each other.
You knew life goes on, and moving to a new school has changed your relationship with some people, but you knew that your relationship with Becky was like a video game.
You would pause the game and when you'd come back, you're right back where you started. That was your friendship with your best friend and you were glad. You two didn't have to go through the awkward "Hey, how are you? What's up?" You and Becky just hit it off right the second one sees the other.
You knew this was going to be a great day, now knowing you were spending time with the people, or person, who made you happy.
