SHIP : MARKHYUCK

donghyuck taught mark how to love the sun again

🌻🌻🌻

mark sat under the darkening sky as he watched the sun slowly fall and eventually disappear.

said boy wasn't that fond of the big star up in the sky. why you might ask?

the sun just reminded him of a love he thought he had. a love that was in actuality all a facade for one's gain, and it definitely wasn't mark's.

all of the smiles he thought were genuine were just there so that he could be distracted from the truth.

min siyeon was her name, and he could remember how much love he gave her, yet it wasn't mutual at all. how they met set back to three years ago; mark was just starting out working part time and it was after his first day on the job.

he headed out to his typical hangout spot near the han river, so that he could relax from the exhausting day he had. the sun was setting and he was watching as it fell behind the horizon.

what he didn't notice was that a girl had taken a seat beside him. he didn't acknowledge her presence before she spoke her first words to him, "aren't sunsets beautiful?"

surprised, mark flinched and looked over to where the girl sat not too far away from him, "y-yeah, they are."

she beamed at him and suddenly, he felt the whole world stop just for them. a conversation sparked and before mark had knew it, he wanted, no needed her to stay in his life.

dates were went on and feelings were shared, and all was good. mark thought he had found the girl of his dreams, he really did. if only had fate been so nice to him, she would've maybe stayed.

three years of what he thought was love, perished within a couple of seconds.

"i never really felt anything with you mark...i admit that i did try, but nothing. either than that, i've found someone new. someone better." though her voice was soft, why did it feel like her voice was laced with malice? it was like she was pushing a poison coasted knife right into his heart.

oh how he wished he had thought things through. to save him all of the embarrassment and heartbreak. mark could've prevented it all if he hadn't allowed himself to fall so deep.

everyday after their fall out, mark would always go back to that one spot to reminisce and drown in the thoughts of what they could've been. it was like self torture.

he would sit there unaware of the human being always sitting under the tree to stare at the sunset like he would. that person had always noticed mark, and thought that maybe this was the companion he needed whilst sunset watching.

on the day he gathered enough confidence to talk to the latter, he saw a girl beat him to it. he saw how mark looked and her and his hopes dissipated into regret.

regret that he didn't act sooner. regret that he wasn't confident enough.

now he's grown, a senior just like mark a year before this. and he still sat in the same spot three years ago, watching the sun set below the horizon. maybe not as often, but he still watches with every opportunity he gets.

you can say that lee donghyuck was the polar opposite of mark at the moment. he loved the sun and the warmth it provided, or the golden glow that radiated off of it, lighting up the world around him.

after work that day, donghyuck saw that he had time to head down to his favorite spot near the han river to watch the sunset. happily sitting down in his spot under the tree, he noticed mark all alone.

which was odd since he would usually bring his girlfriend with him, and then, he saw it.

tears started to fall from the elder's eyes, streaming down his cheeks and dripping onto his jeans. it was like the male had his own personal rain cloud above him, causing him to be down in the dumps, but donghyuck knew it was something more than that.

for some reason, donghyuck's conscience just told him to go and comfort the male. to see what was wrong, to provide comfort and a bit of shelter from the pelting rain from his personal rain cloud.

he walked over to the elder, but not after plucking a small sunflower from the ground.

donghyuck stood in front of mark, casting a shadow over the male sitting down. he then held out the flower in front of mark's lowered face.

raising his head a bit to see what was held out to him and whom was holding it out for him, he was met with donghyuck smiling down brightly at him. the male's smile played a close resemblance to the singular star in the sky, mark noticed.

"i don't know what's saddening you, but i hope this sunflower will help you smile again."

maybe mark did spare a teensy weensy liking towards that sun-like smile. and maybe, mark did realize that there were more than one sun out there in the universe.
