Prologue; Pink Lemonade.

Cliques have never been this duo's thing. BFFAEs; best friends forever and ever. They're the friendship that everyone wants. The duo consists of a young boy and a young girl - the girl being the younger of the pair. The boy, Natsu, has spikey tuffs of all natural pink hair and onyx eyes that pop with life. He's never seen without his signature scarf or toothy grin - it's one of the things that make Natsu, well, Natsu. The girl, Lucy, is a shining young girl with her blonde hair usually pulled into a half-up-half-down do. Her chocolate orbs shine with the joy that she's rarely without.

Despite their differences, they're best friends.

"Lucy!" Her mother, Layla Heartfilia, called for her daughter to come down from the bedroom she so enjoys locking herself in. "Natsu is here!" The young girl instantly bounded down the grand stairs of the house that were conveniently outside her bedroom door. At the bottom, there stood an older woman with her blonde hair tied up in a bun. In her hands, she dangled a dainty pair of white and pink flats, the pair that goes with Lucy's favourite outfit. With a smile, Lucy took the shoes from her mother and slipped them onto her feet.

Running out of the stairway, she was greeted by her pinkette best friend and her grumbling father. Natsu took Lucy's hand, like youngsters always do, and left the Heartfilia house. Jude Heartfilia twitched a glance at her mother who was staring at the door that the friends had just left from, "it has to be done, Layla." He spoke more harshly than intended.

"I know. . ." She spoke softly, a sigh following her words. "Just let them have today, Jude. Just today."

"Natsu!" Lucy shouted, her voice ringing with laughter as they ran into the playground. "Wait up!" Natsu stood behind of the swing-set that was painted in beautiful colours, waiting for Lucy.

"Hurry up, Luce," He simply smiled his words as his companion sat herself down on one of the swings.

"Not too high," She warned, gripping onto the chains that held up the swing. Natsu began to softly push the black swing, with them both in fits of laughter. This is how they were; young without a care in the world. To them, the only thing that mattered was having fun. To them, the only thing they had to care about was getting home in time for curfew. 

However, what they didn't know, is that within a few short hours, life as they knew it was about to change.

Having lived accross the road from each other all their life, Lucy knew Natsu's siblings pretty well. A little bluenette girl, Wendy, and a teenage black haired boy, Zeref. The girl was a sweetheart and usually playing with the families cats, Happy and Carla. Whereas, the boy is more of an angst who's currently working through his emo stage. But failing - failing miserably. Lucy considers them all to be her siblings, especially as she has none.

Jumping off of the swing, Lucy toppled over on to her little butt. With just a glance up, the pair then burst into another fit of giggles. Seeing her daughter and her daughter's best friend play so carelessly made Layla think about what could be lost if they did move away. What Lucy and Natsu have is special; unique to only them. No one could have a friendship as powerful as them.

Effortlessly pushing open the playground's gate, Lucy's mother stood there with a blue-haired woman, Grandeeney Dragneel - Natsu's Mother. "Lucy, Natsu," Natsu's mother called, catching the duo's attention. "It's time to go home now."

"Awh," Natsu pouted, "'common, mom. Ten more minutes with Luce." Lucy then giggled at his efforts.

"Please." She added to what he had said. The adults shared a glance, before sighing and nodding.

"Fine," Layla couldn't help but smile. "Ten more minutes."

The next ten minutes were full of even more laughter and smiles. Lucy's eyes have never shone so much. It's only when she's with Natsu that she's truly happy. She doesn't have to force a smile when she's around him, it comes naturally. See, her father can be rather harsh. Her mother tries to reason with Jude, but he slapped her once. Right in front of five-year-old Lucy. "Lucy, come on, now." Offering a hand down to her now dirty daughter, she lifted her up.

"Bye, Natsu," Lucy waved as she walked off to her side of the street with her mother. The Heartfilia house is rather big and beautiful. The exterior was painted with a peach colour and the roofs were a lovely blue. Ivy wove it's way up and around a few of the windows.

"Bye, Luce," Natsu waved back as they walked on their side of the street. "See you tomorrow!" 

"No, you won't. . ." The older blonde mumbled as her eyes Grandeeney's; they were filled with sadness. A strong friendship in this world is hard to come upon.

"You all packed, honey?" Lucy's mother asked her teary-eyed daughter gently. Sniffling, her small head of blonde hair nodded. Wiping her eyes dry with the sleeve of the cardigan she was now wearing, she took her mother's hand as they walked down the stairs. Her chocolate eyes took in as much of their home as they could. Why do we have to move?

"Luce!" A voice cracked with threatening tears behind her. Instantly, she turned around to be met with the pinkette. Her small arms engulfed the boy in her arms.

"I'm gonna miss you. . ." She mumbled into his shoulder.

"I'm gonna miss you too. . ."

The next hour or so seemed to fly by, and not in a good way. It was a flurry of moving vans collecting all of their boxes, furniture, everything, and shoving it into a van. And, just like that, they were gone. Any trace of the Heartfilias was gone - it was as if they were never there. Yet, memories don't lie. With his onyx eyes still stinging with tears, Natsu was led back to his own home by his mother.

Just like that, she was gone. And so was their friendship.
