Ch. 9 The Red Eye

It is the morning of the next day. Amethyst steps out of Diana's bedroom with a backpack on her right shoulder. She gently closed the door behind her and looked at her surroundings. She saw that the doors to Pearl and Garnet's room were closed. She turns to the left of the stairs that leads to Steven's bedroom.

" Hey, Steven," Amethyst walks up the stairs to Steven's bedroom. She looked forward and saw the young male lying on his bed asleep.

" Pss. Steven," She grabs a dirty shirt, rolls it up like a ball, and throws it at Steven, waking him up.

" Hmm?" Steven wakes up from his slumber. " Amethyst?" He yawns, and his eyes blink when he sees Amethyst.

" Morning. Steven. Want to come with me to see Diana?" Amethyst asked.

Steven stares at Amethyst, remembering his conversation with Garnet from last night.

" Once Diana comes home, you need to apologize to her, okay?" Garnet looks at Steven.

" Okay. Let me get ready," Steven responded, getting out of bed.

" Alright. I'll be downstairs," Amethyst turns and walks down the stairs to the living room.

Steven removes his pajamas, throws them into the dirty basket, and changes clothes. He goes to the bathroom, washes his face, and brushes his teeth.

Once he finished, Steven joined Amethyst in the living room.

" You ready?" Amethyst asked.

" I'm ready," Steven nodded.

" Oh. Should we let Garnet and Pearl know where we are going?" He asked when he saw Amethyst walking towards the door to leave the house.

Amethyst stops walking and turns to look at Steven.

" Nah! Garnet will know where we are. She always knows," She reassures.

Steven raises an eyebrow, looking confused, but he shrugs. He follows Amethyst out of the house, nervous yet determined to apologize to his older sister.

An alarming sound awakens Diana from her slumber. Her eyes opened and blinked when she saw that the room was dark due to the dark-colored curtains Sour Cream had in his bedroom. She turns off the alarm and gets out of bed, stretching.

" What time is it?" Diana asked.

She turned to the clock and saw that it was 6:05 AM. She hummed since she knew that school starts at 8:10 AM, knowing she had enough time to prepare and eat breakfast.

Diana walks towards the window, pulls the curtains to the side, and looks out the window. Her eyes blinked when she saw that the outside had a reddish and orange color instead of yellow and blue.

" What's going on?" She asked and lifted her head to the sky.

Diana's eyes widened when she saw a meteor heading to Earth, specifically Beach City. Her eyes squinted, using her enhanced vision to see the meteor.

" That's no ordinary meteor. That's a Gem. A massive Gem-like meteor," Diana says, looking at the meteor with mixed emotions.

" I got to let the Crystal Gems know about this," She closed the curtains, and her eyes blinked when she heard the door knock.

" Morning, Diana! It's Vidalia. I wanted to let you know that your Aunt Amethyst and your younger brother are here. I also have some clothes you can wear for the day," An older feminine voice says.

Diana turns and walks towards the door. She opens it seeing Vidalia. She looked past the older female and saw Amethyst and Steven standing behind her.

" Hey, Diana!" Amethyst greeted with a wave. " We got your stuff," She motioned to Diana's backpack.

" Hey, Amethyst. Steven. Thanks for bringing my stuff. And thank you for the clothes, Vidalia," Diana takes the clothes from Vidalia's grasp.

Vidalia smiles at Diana.

" Where's Sour Cream?" Diana asked when she saw that Sour Cream was nowhere in sight.

" He's in the bathroom, getting ready to go to school. Are you going with him? That way, I can make breakfast for you two," Vidalia asked.

Diana wanted to tell Amethyst about the Gem-like meteor heading towards Beach City.

" I was planning on eating breakfast with my Aunt Amethyst and Steven. But thank you for offering breakfast to me. Also, tell Sour Cream that I'll meet him later at school," She smiled at Vidalia.

" Amethyst. Can you help me with something? It's urgent," She looked at Amethyst worryingly.

" Sure," Amethyst nodded when she saw Diana looking at her worryingly.

" Steven. Stay here with Vidalia," She turns to Steven.

" Okay," Steven nodded, watching Amethyst enter the bedroom with Diana closing the door.

Vidalia turned to Steven and smiled at him.

" You are looking so much like your Father. It's so bizarre," She chuckled.

" The only difference is that Greg has long, wavy dark hair while you have curly dark hair," She recalled.

Steven smiled at Vidalia.

His eyes blinked when he felt like he was getting stared at. He turned to the right and saw Onion looking at him from his bedroom.

" Oh. Who's that?" He asked while looking at Onion.

Vidalia turns and smiles at Onion.

" That's my youngest, and his name is Onion. He's two but will be three on October 31st," She tells Steven.

" Hi," Steven smiled and waved at Onion.

Onion closes the door, causing Steven to stare at it with mixed emotions.

" He's shy," Vidalia says.

" Ah," Steven nodded.

The door to Sour Cream's bedroom opened, revealing a dressed Diana and a concerned Amethyst.

" It was nice seeing you, Vidalia. Hope we can hang out soon," Amethyst walks past Vidalia and waves goodbye. " Come on, Steven. Let's head home," She motioned Steven to the door.

Steven looks at Amethyst and Diana with a confused gaze.

" Thanks for letting me stay over Vidalia. We got to get going. My Aunt Garnet and Pearl want us to have a big family breakfast before I go to school," Diana says while walking towards Steven and putting her hands on his shoulders to escort him out of the house.

" It was nice seeing you, Steven, and you too, Amethyst. And yeah, we should hang out sometime," Vidalia smiled.

" And you are always welcome here, Diana. I'll let Sour Cream know to meet up with you at school," She waves goodbye, watching Diana, Steven, and Amethyst leave her house.

Steven follows Diana and Amethyst out of the house. He opened his mouth to say something but stopped when he saw that his surroundings were reddish-orange.

" Am I going crazy, or do I need to eat my carrots like Pearl wants me to because my vision sees red and orange," He says.

Diana and Amethyst looked at each other, relieved that Steven could see the same thing they saw.

" You see that thing in the sky," Amethyst points to the Gem-like meteor.

Steven nodded, looking surprised.

" As I told your sister, that thing is a Red-Eye. Pearl told me it's a device created from Homeworld to detect the presence of Gems in certain areas," Amethyst explained.

" Garnet believes whoever sent that here wants us Gems dead," Diana looks at Amethyst and Steven worryingly.

" How- how are we going to stop it?" Steven asked, looking concerned.

" Pearl mentioned on the phone that we need to use Rose's Laser Light Cannon, but she and Garnet don't know where it is," Amethyst looks at the Universe siblings.

" Didn't Dad say he kept Mom's things in a storage unit? Maybe it's there. And Dad should have the keys for that room," Steven rubbed his chin.

" Ah! I forgot about that storage unit. After Mama Rose died, Dad got so depressed that he put all of Mama Rose's things into the storage unit. Steven, you are a genius," Diana affectionately ruffled her brother's hair.

Steven blushes, and he begins to remember his conversation with Garnet.

" I'm sorry for hurting your feelings and saying horrible things. I was an idiot for not realizing that I could have died," He apologized.

Diana's gaze softens, and she hugs Steven.

" It's okay, Steven. I'm glad you are safe. Now, let's see Dad," She lets go of him and smiles.

Steven hugged Diana and nodded after she let go of him. He smiled, excited to help his family out.
