Ch. 5 The Mother Centipeetle
Steven runs up the stairs to the Beach House, opens the door, slams it behind him, and steps inside. He ignores all the mess in the house that the Crystal Gems made when they fought against multiple Centipeetles earlier. He then heads up the stairs to his bedroom.
" Steven Universe! No TV and video games for a month!" Diana's stern voice echoed in the back of Steven's head.
" She has no right to do that!" Steven mumbled while sitting on his bed and hugging the Cookie Cat fridge close to him.
Below, Garnet opens the door, and they step inside, seeing Steven sitting on his bed in his bedroom and looking annoyed.
" Oh, Steven," Garnet whispered, looking concerned. They closed the door and walked up the stairs to Steven's bedroom. " You have so much to learn," They murmured.
" Steven," Garnet calls out, grabbing Steven's attention.
Steven silently stared at Garnet while hugging his Cookie Cat fridge.
" Are you here to take my Cookie Cat fridge?" Steven softly asked.
" No. But I need to speak to you," Garnet confessed, and they sat next to Steven. " Steven. Why did you say that to Diana?" They turned their gaze to the younger male.
" Said what?" Steven asked while glancing at Garnet.
" I know you said those things out of anger and didn't mean it," Garnet gently placed their hand on Steven's head.
Steven silently stared at Garnet.
" You told Diana that you hate her and wish she weren't your sister," Garnet looks at Steven.
Tears welled up in Steven's dark eyes. He looked away and stared at his Cookie Cat Fridge with mixed emotions.
" I-I don't hate Diana," Steven stuttered. " It just-It just I didn't find it fair that she doesn't want me to watch TV or play video games for a month," He grumbled.
" Diana gave you a decent punishment for your foolish actions," Garnet admitted. " If I were Diana, I would have buried you in the ground as the humans say," She honestly speaks.
Steven pales as he imagines Garnet burying him alive or maybe putting him in a coffin in the sand for a month.
" You-You are right," Steven nervously laughs. " No video games and TV for a month is reasonable punishment," He nodded.
" Diana was genuinely scared for your life, Steven," Garnet firmly speaks.
Steven turns his gaze to Garnet.
" You are her only close family left," Garnet looks at Steven.
Steven lightly bites his lips.
" She-She has Dad," Steven declared.
" But, he doesn't live with her every day as she does with you," Garnet reasoned.
" I-I didn't want Sadie's gift to get broken," Steven defended.
" Your life is more important, Steven!" Garnet placed their hands on Steven's shoulders, causing them to stare at one another. " Diana, Pearl, Amethyst, and I could have bought you a new one. But, if something were to happen to you, we would have never forgiven ourselves!" They admitted.
Steven lets go of the Cookie Cat fridge and begin crying.
" I am so sorry!" Steven cried out, looking regretful.
Garnet's expression softened, and they hugged Steven. Their hands gently brushed the younger male's curly hair.
" Once Diana comes home, you need to apologize to her, okay?" Garnet lets go of Steven and look at him.
Steven nodded.
" We love you so much, Steven." Garnet warmly smiled. " All we want is for you to have a safe and happy life," They affectionately ruffled Steven's curly hair.
Steven nodded. His dark eyes begin to get heavy, and he yawns, letting Garnet know he will fall asleep.
" Rest," Garnet whispered. They gently laid Steven on the bed, grabbed a blanket, and covered him.
Garnet hums when they hear soft snoring, and they look down, seeing Steven asleep.
" Sleep well, Steven," Garnet lovingly kissed Steven's forehead, and they walked away to give the younger male privacy.
With Diana, Amethyst, and Pearl, the trio finally arrived at their destination, the Gem Battlefield in the Scandinavian Peninsula, Norway.
" The mother must be here," Pearl looked at her surroundings.
" Where do we even start?" Amethyst asked.
Diana stood there staring at her surroundings with mixed emotions. Even though she has been on this empty battlefield countless times, something about it has always given her shivers.
Several hissing sounds grabbed the trio's attention, and they stood in a circular battle formation.
" Be careful now," Pearl grabs a spear from her gem.
" We always are," Amethyst grabs a whip from her gem.
" Since we know they can poof whenever you attack them twice. We know if one of these centipeetles doesn't, that must mean they are the mother," Diana grabs a bow and arrow from her gem.
The trio watched the little centipeetles glow and turned into massive centipeetles.
" Alright! I have six. You have six, Amethyst. And Diana, you have the remaining six!" Pearl twirled her spear, standing in a fighting position.
" Got it!" Amethyst and Diana shouted in unison, and the trio started to fight against the eighteen centipeetles.
" Ahhhh!" Pearl shouts.
Pearl twirled and slashed all of the six centipeetles near her with her spear while making sure not to get touched by their acid. Once she finished and turned her head back, she saw all of the centipeetles disappear in a poof of smoke.
" Amethyst! Diana! The mother must be one of the sixes that you guys have!" Pearl shouted.
" Let's get this over with because I am starving!" Amethyst shouted.
Amethyst tightly grasped her whip, twirled rapidly, transforming into a purple spiky twister, and started attacking the six centipeetles near her.
" Don't worry! We will have a feast when we go home to celebrate a successful mission," Diana grabbed six arrows and aimed them at all six centipeetles in front of her.
" Let's blow these bugs up!" Diana widely grinned.
Diana lets go of the arrows, shooting them at the six centipeetles, and it hits them on the chest, which causes them to explode on impact.
Several poofs of smoke appeared, which let the trio know that eleven of the twelve got killed in the impact.
" Be careful, you two," Pearl went to stand next to Diana and Amethyst. They watched the smoke disappear, revealing a single centipeetle.
" And that must be the mother," Amethyst smirked. " Diana. Shoot me!" She jumped and became small, like the size of an ant.
" Got it!" Diana grabs an arrow and aims it an inch away from the centipeetle.
The centipeetle shook their head, and they hissed at the trio. They opened their mouth, and they started to shoot acid at them.
Diana shoots the arrow. Pearl grabs her, and they jump backward, barely missing the acid.
The arrow flew by the Centipeetle, but Amethyst became larger, grabbed Diana's arrow, and slammed it on the centipeetle's head. She then shapeshifts into an eagle and flies away once the arrow explodes, causing the mother to fall and poof, revealing a Nephrite gem.
" Great job, you two," Pearl proudly smiled. She and Diana watched Amethyst fly around them in a circle.
Pearl walks up to the Nephrite gem, bubbles it, and it disappears.
Diana softly smiled, feeling glad the mission was a success. However, she frowned, still sad because of what Steven had told her.
" Let's go home," Diana turns her gaze to Pearl.
Pearl looks at Diana with a concerned gaze.
Amethyst transforms back to her usual self and looks at Pearl and Diana.
The trio's weapons disappeared once they saw that they were safe.
Pearl and Amethyst looked at each other and nodded. They walked and went to stand beside Diana.
" Of course! Let's go home," Pearl and Amethyst grabbed Diana's hand, and the trio disappeared.
Several minutes later, the trio appeared at the beach in Beach City. Pearl and Amethyst begin to walk toward the Beach House, but Diana stays behind. They soon stopped walking when they realized that Diana wasn't following them.
" Diana?" Pearl turns and stares at Diana.
" Is everything alright? If it is about what Steven said. I have a feeling that he didn't mean what he said to you," Amethyst looked at Diana with a concerned gaze.
" I am going to be home late. I need time for myself," Diana says while looking at her guardians.
Pearl and Amethyst looked at one another, then stared at Diana as they nodded.
" Of course. You have your cellular device with you, right?" Pearl asked.
Diana nodded while gently patting her purse.
" Okay. Call us if anything," Pearl looked at Diana and warmly smiled.
" Remember! We are here if you ever need to talk!" Amethyst shouts.
Diana nodded.
Diana waved goodbye, watching Pearl and Amethyst turn and walk towards the Beach house.
Once Pearl and Amethyst are out of sight, Diana pulls out her cell phone from her purse and begins to call someone.
" Hey, Sour. Can you pick me up at my usual location? Something happened," Diana mumbled, tears falling from her deep pink eyes.
