Ch. 2 First day of Senior Year
Diana and her friends stepped inside the school building and sprinted towards the GYM when they heard the school bell ring. They entered the GYM and saw eight tables with eight faculty and staff members with a list of the students' names.
" Where are the Seniors?" Buck asked while looking at his surroundings, figuring out which table has his school year since there are many students in the GYM.
" You need glasses," Jenny teases, pointing to a table close to them. " That table with the shortest amount of students is the Seniors," She tells her friends.
" Wait! How many students are in our year now?" Sour Cream asked while holding his hands since he tried to count, but he stopped when he realized his school year had more than ten students.
Diana hummed while staring at everyone with a calculating gaze. Once she finished, she turned to her friends.
" This year, we have 131 Freshmen, 129 Sophomores, 116 Juniors, and 72 Seniors," Diana happily responded.
Sour Cream and Buck silently stared at Diana as they tried to figure out how she calculated that fast. Meanwhile, Jenny brightly smiled.
" See! What did I tell you? Our year has the shortest amount of students," Jenny boasted.
" Let's go see what classes we have this year," Sour Cream changes the subject by pushing his friends to the Seniors' table.
Lars and Sadie entered the gym and saw The Cool Kids heading towards the Seniors' table.
" Ohhh! I do hope I have one of my classes with them. Then again, I doubt I will have a class with Diana since she is the smartest student of our year," Lars mumbled.
" Did Diana get into the Principal's Honors last year?" Sadie jokingly asked since she had recently moved to Beach City during the summer before her Senior year.
Lars turns his gaze to Sadie, and the two teens intently stare at one another.
" Yes. Diana has been in the Principal's Honors since our first year," Lars commented.
" Dang. Is she a living calculator or something?" Sadie jokingly asked.
" Our school's Principal has asked Diana if she thought about going to college in our First year. But she refused, saying she wanted to experience being a High School student before thinking of going to college. As I said, she always thought about others first instead of her first," Lars dreamingly sighed.
Sadie warily stared at Lars as she wondered how she had become friends with him in the first place.
' Right. Right. Lars is my co-worker at the Big Donut, and I didn't know anyone at Beach City except him and Steven,' Sadie tells herself. She glances at Diana and begins to wonder if the other female is friendly like Steven.
A couple of students got their class schedules, and it was now Diana's turn to get her class schedule.
" Good morning, Mrs. Serki. And Mr. Kim," Diana kindly greets the two teachers at the Senior's table. Mrs. Serki was her AP US History Teacher during her Junior year. And Mr. Kim was her Junior year Honors Physics teacher.
" Oh! Hello, Ms. Universe. How was your summer?" Mrs. Serki kindly asked while Mr. Kim went to look for Diana's class schedule.
" My summer went well. I went to Egypt with my Aunts for a week. Then I went to Russia for another week with them. After that, we stopped in England for the last week of Summer Vacation," Diana smoothly spoke.
' More like I had countless missions, defeating and bubbling corrupted Gems so that they don't attack innocent humans,' Diana internally speaks.
" Wonderful! You must have taken many pictures," Mrs. Serki smiled.
" I did. I took so many pictures. I put them all in my room," Diana softly smiled. She began to remember the photo collection she has all over her bedroom.
" Here is your class schedule, Ms. Universe," Mr. Kim interrupted while holding a yellow envelope to Diana.
" Thank you! I hope you had a good summer, too, Mrs. Serki. I will see you around," Diana waves goodbye. She grabs the yellow envelope and walks away.
Diana went to stand a foot away from the table. Many minutes later, her friends caught up with her and stood around her.
" Let's see what classes we have this year!" Jenny excitedly held her envelope in front of her.
Diana, Sour Cream, and Buck nodded. They open their envelopes with Jenny. They pull out their class schedules and begin to read them.
" My first period is World Literature. The second period is Trig. Marine Biology is third. US Government is fourth. Spanish three in fifth. And Music is sixth," Sour Cream sounded pleased that he will be taking Music as his last period.
" What did you guys get?" Sour Cream asked the others.
" I have my first period (World Literature) with you, Sour. I have Statistics as my second period. Astronomy for my third. I also have my fourth period (US Government) with you. Business and Marketing is fifth. And Art for sixth," Buck responded.
" I have my first period (World Literature) with you, Sour, and Buck. I have my second period (Statistics) with Buck. I have Anatomy for my third. I have Psychology for my fourth. I also have my fifth period (Business and Marketing) with Buck. And Dance for sixth," Jenny responded.
Diana shyly stared at her friends, which caused them to stare at her.
" What did you get, Pinkie?" Buck asked.
" I have AP English Literature and Composition for my first period. I have my second period (Statistics) with Buck and Jenny. I have AP Chemistry for my third period. I have AP US Government and Politics for my fourth period. I have Zoology for my fifth period. And I also have my sixth period (Dance) with Jenny," Diana responded.
" Dang! Two electives. That means two free classes for you," Buck snickered. " But, at least we have a class together," He softly smiled.
" I'll see you during Lunch anyways," Sour Cream shrugged.
" I will always help you with any subject you struggle with, okay," Diana kindly smiled.
Sour Cream bashfully stared at the ground while shrugging.
" Yay! We have Statistics and Dance together," Jenny grabs Diana's hands and the two females jump up and down in joy.
Lars and Sadie held their class schedules, and the two teens looked at one another.
" Did you hear that Diana has alot of AP classes and two electives?!" Lars dramatically groans.
Sadie glanced at Lars' class schedule.
" I see you have World Literature for the first period, which you share with Sour Cream, Buck, and Jenny. Algebra 2 for the second period. Astronomy for the third period, which you share with Buck. Psychology for the fourth period, which you share with Jenny. Zoology for the fifth period, which you do share with Diana. And Music, which you share with Sour Cream," Sadie responded.
" You do know you have two electives like Diana, and one of them is with her, right," Sadie turns her gaze to Lars.
Lars froze when he realized that he has most of his classes with The Cool Kids and that one of his electives is with Diana.
" No way," Lars mouth out.
Sadie softly smiled, feeling glad that Lars was feeling better.
" What did you get?" Lars asked.
" I have some classes with you, except I have Trig for my second period. Marine Biology for the third period. Spanish three in fifth. And Music for sixth," Sadie responded.
Soon, students left the GYM and headed to their first period to get to know their teacher and get their syllabus.
Diana entered her first period, which is AP English Literature and Composition. She looked at her surroundings and noticed that there were nine students in class; with her, that makes ten. She entered the classroom and saw an empty chair next to her academic-friendly rival, seventeen-year-old Ronaldo Fryman.
Ronaldo heard footsteps approaching his desk, and he lifted his head and saw Diana walking up to him.
" Well, if it isn't Her Royal Highness, Diana Universe," Ronaldo's brown eyes intently stared at Diana's deep pink eyes.
" Hello, Ronaldo," Diana kindly greeted Ronaldo, but her voice sounded awkward.
Ronaldo looks at his surroundings, and he motions for Diana to come close to his desk, which she does.
" Have there been any alien sightings in Beach City, Diana? I figure you would know since you are a Princess from outer space and all," Ronaldo softly asked.
Diana sweatdropped at Ronaldo's question.
" No. There haven't been any alien sightings in Beach City," Diana reassures. " And I am not a Princess from outer space. How many times do I have to tell you, Ronaldo? I am not like Sailor Moon," She goes to sit at her desk next to him.
" Yes, you are! Don't you know Sailor Moon's original hair color was pink before the Mangaka changed it to blonde? And you do have a Gem where your belly button should be. And I know you say it is a genetic condition, but I doubt that. That gem is where you store your weapons. What kind of weapons do you have?" Ronaldo asked, looking curious.
Diana opened her mouth to say something, and she internally sighed in relief when she heard the school bell ring, which let her know that first period has started.
Many hours passed, and the students got out early at 1:05 PM due to the first day of school.
Diana stepped out of her sixth-period classroom, which is Dance, with Jenny. The two females chatted while walking towards their lockers, and they began to put their school textbooks in their lockers.
" I cannot believe we finally survived our first day of Senior year. How do you feel?" Jenny asked. She turned her gaze to Diana.
" Good. I am excited to learn these subjects. I also need to get these syllabi signed. So, I need to head to my Dad's place right now," Diana tells Jenny while closing her locker and locking it.
" Sour can drop you off at your Dad's place." Jenny closed her locker and locked it.
Diana opened her mouth to say something but stopped when she saw Sour Cream and Buck approaching them.
" I heard my name," Sour Cream calls out while staring at his friends.
Jenny turns her gaze to the two males.
" Diana is planning to stop by her Dad's place. You cool with dropping her off at his place?" Jenny asked.
" I'm okay with it. You don't need to ask me," Sour Cream tells Jenny, and he softly smiles at Diana.
" Let's get going," Buck stretches.
Diana nods her head, and she begins to walk out of the school building with her friends.
The four teens got inside Sour Cream's car and left the school. Fifteen minutes later, they arrived at their destination. Diana and Steven's father, Greg Universe, car wash called It's a Wash.
" Thank you guys so much for dropping me off," Diana gets out of the car and turns to stare at her friends.
" You don't need to thank us, Pinkie," Buck softly smiled at Diana.
" Buck is right, Diana. We know you are capable of getting a Driver's license. And we understand that you cannot afford a car. So, we are cool driving you wherever you want to go," Jenny blows a kiss to Diana.
Diana blushes, and she then looks at Sour Cream.
" Tell Uncle Greg I say hi," Sour Cream turns his gaze to Diana, and he softly smiles at her.
" Will do! Have a good day, you guys," Diana waves goodbye as she watches the car drive away.
" Bye!! See you tomorrow, Lovely!" Jenny shouted.
Diana nods in response as she turns around and stares at the car wash, which is also her father's home.
" Dad! Are you here?" Diana shouts while stepping inside the car wash.
There was no response except for some music playing in the background. Diana closes her deep pink eyes and happily hums with the melody as she begins to follow the sound of the Music.
" Hey, Diana! How was your first day of Senior year?" Greg's voice calls out, causing Diana to stop walking, and she opens her deep pink eyes, seeing that she is at the back of the car wash and her father is sitting inside his van with a guitar in his grasp.
" First day of Senior year went well. I brought all of my Syllabi that I need you to sign since you are my father and my guardian," Diana grabs her backpack. She pulls out her lavender-purple binder filled with her class syllabus organized from the first to the sixth period.
" When do you need them by?" Greg asked.
" By this Friday," Diana responded, carefully placing the binder in the van next to Greg. " I memorize all the materials needed for the classes. I can ask Auntie Pearl to take me to the supermarket so I can get my school supplies," She turns her gaze to her father.
" Oooh! Can you check if the supermarket is selling Cookie Cats? Garnet called me and told me that Steven started crying and saying they were out of Cookie Cats," Greg kindly asked.
" Of course. I can check to see if the supermarket has Cookie Cats in stock," Diana softly smiled and hugged her father.
Greg quickly sets his guitar to the side and hugs his eldest daughter.
" Have a good afternoon, Dad. I'll see you soon," Diana whispered.
" You too. And I will make sure those syllabi of yours get signed," Greg whispered.
" I love you," Diana lets go of Greg, and she fondly smiles at her father.
" And I love you," Greg fondly smiles back.
" Bye, Dad!" Diana slings her backpack on her right shoulder and waves goodbye to Greg as she begins to walk away.
" Bye, Sweetheart! Have a safe trip to the Beach House. Say Hi, to Steven and the Crystal Gems for me!" Greg shouts while watching Diana walk away.
" Will do!" Diana shouts and begins to run, heading toward her childhood home.
