Steven and Sapphire raced towards brooding hill as fast as they could.(which wasn't very fast)

"Why do you think." Panted Steven as they raced up the hill. "Ruby wants to be a cowboy?"

"I don't know, but one things for sure. She definitely doesn't want to be found." Sapphire said with a controlled voice.

The two continued to run in silence, only stopping occasionally for Steven to catch his breath, and made it to brooding hill. Right before they reached the top, Sapphire stopped. Steven stopped and spun around to look at the small blue gem.

"Sapphire? What's wr-'' Sapphire cut him off.

"I shouldn't have come.'' She said as she crossed her arms and looked away from the hybrid. "Ruby made it clear that she didn't want to see me... I should go. I'll be at the temple if you need me.'' Sapphire started he trek back down the hill and toward the temple.

"Sapphire!'' Steven called out but to no avail.

Steven continued on his journey, a worried expression plastered on his face. He found his dad's van and the gems sitting on the overlook of the cliff, talking. As Steven got closer he could hear the conversation clearer.

"Are you sure you truly want to leave forever? I mean, ya sure all of us are overwhelmed, but leaving forever? That seems a little much..." Amethyst tried to reason with her fellow quartz.

"Yes." Ruby replied confidently. "I do need time away from everyone." Steven his behind the van to listen in. "This whole thing, Pink Diamond, Rose, Steven. Everything! It's to much to handle right now!" I just need a little space. I'll come back... it's just... I need time."

Steven audibly gasped at this (something that did not go unnoticed by the group on the cliff).

"Steven? Is that you shtewball?" Greg asked as he stood up. Steven crept out of his hiding spot and guiltily walked over to everyone.

"S-Steven! How much did you hear?" Ruby asked, afraid of the answer she was about to receive.

"Enough." Steven said sadly. "Are you really leaving?"

Ruby nodded sadly. "I just need a little time to sort things out. I'll be back, I promise."

It was now Steven's turn to nod to the small red gem. The hybrid walked over to Ruby and hugged her, as a way of saying good bye. Ruby embraced the young boy and cried a slight bit. They both did. After a tearful goodbye, Ruby and Amethyst started off on their journey. Amethyst had agreed before hand to go with Ruby to make sure she had some sort of company.

Greg drove Pearl and Steven back to the temple. It was a very quiet drive save for a few tears. After being dropped off, the two slowly walked up the stairs and enters the house to find that Sapphire had cried herself to sleep on the couch. Not wanting the heartbroken gem to be uncomfortable, Steven picked her up bridal style and set her in his bed while he himself slept on the couch.

A/N

I know it's a really short chapter but I wanted to split the Ruby rider arc into two separate parts. Part two should be uploaded at the same time as this one so that way you guys can get through the full story quicker. Don't worry, I'll be skipping a head a few episodes (made of honor, reunited, and legs from here to homeworld) seeing as I don't want, need, or have to have that as a chapter. The next chapter after part two will probably be familiar, seeing as there are a few things I would have changed. Anyway, that's all for me. 13, out
