A Girl on a Boys' Team
"You can't play because you're a girl." The raven sneers down at the pinkette.
"Hey! Just because I'm a girl doesn't mean I can't play the sport, Sasuke!" She retorts, angered and offended at the man.
"No -kun? I'm very offended." The man, known as Sasuke, says, putting a hand over his heart. Or what's left of it. The pinkette internally smirks at her comment.
"I'm very offended that you won't let me try out for the team!" The pinkette replies.
"Well, Sakura, it's an all-boys team, and we play in an all-boys league. You'd get crushed."
"The only thing that'll get crushed is you!" She yells.
"Hey, Sasuke, maybe we should let her try." A blonde says.
The raven sighs. "Really, Naruto? You're siding with her?"
"I just don't want to be the one pummeled into a pancake." He says, putting his hands up in surrender, remembering that the pinkette has a feisty attitude; they were childhood friends.
"I think she'd be pretty decent, especially with that attitude of hers. She might even be able to go up against Gaara." Shikamaru, the strategist of the team, adds.
Sasuke rubs his face as his teammates agree with Shikamaru. He then sighs heavily. "Fine. But if you fail it's not my fault. Get your paperwork into Coach Kakashi by tomorrow. Practice starts tomorrow after school, but you'll be evaluated then."
The pinkette's eyes widen and she smiles brightly. "Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou!!!!"
The raven just rolls his eyes as the pinkette runs away, most likely to gather the paperwork.
~
"So you're on the team?" Sakura' obnoxious best friend asks over the phone.
"No, pig. I'm being evaluated tomorrow. If I pass, I'll be on the team."
"I was just asking, forehead. No need to be so defensive." Ino retorts.
"Whatever. I've got the paperwork sorted and now I need to finish up my homework." The pinkette says, internally groaning at the amount of work she has to complete.
"Good luck with that. I still don't know how you can take all advanced classes, play a sport, and train under the hokage."
"Honestly, I don't know how I manage it either. I'll talk to you later, Pig."
"Yep, Forehead!"
~
The next day, the pinkette heads straight to Kakashi's office and hands him the papers. The day seems to go by extremely slowly until finally her tryouts roll around. She walks to the women's locker room, only to be greeted by a smirking Sasuke.
"What now?" The pinkette groans.
"If you're going to be a part of the team, might as well change with the team." Sasuke responds, smirking. The pinkette blushes, but holds her head high, making sure to push the ravens shoulder as she walks into the boys locker room.
"Hey! What're you doing in here!"
"Yeah, it's a boys locker room!" Another chimes.
"Relax, guys." Naruto says, coming up to the pinkette and casually slinging an arm over her shoulder. "She's trying out, and I know that she'll make the team."
"You bet!" Sakura responds, smiling. She walks to a uninhabited corner and sets her things down, changing into an elite club shirt and soccer shorts. Thankfully, the boys have all changed, so they left the locker room. The pinkette puts on her shin guards and socks, slips on slides, grabs her soccer bag, phone, and a water, and exits the locker room.
"Yo." Naruto says. The pinkette jumps, startled.
"Naruto... you... you waited for me?!" Sakura says, surprised and touched that the blonde would leave his best friend and the team to wait for her.
"Yeah. I want you to be a part of this team, so I thought I'd give you a few tips, dattebayo!" He responds, smiling.
"That would be great!" The pinkette responds.
"Alright. So, Kakashi will probably have you do footskills, passing, the basics. But, since you're trying out as striker, you're probably going to be receiving crosses and passes from Teme and I." Naruto says.
"That'll be easy." The pinkette responds as they near the soccer field.
"Well, kind of. Nobody has ever been able to receive Sasuke's passes accurately. Mine are a bit more manageable, but both of our kicks are fast and powerful, so be prepared." They step on the grass and walk to the bench, where the rest of the team reside, slipping on their cleats.
"Thanks, Naruto. I'll be sure to keep all of that in mind." The pinkette responds, setting down her stuff and putting on her cleats.
"Yeah, no problem. Do your best, dattebayo!" Naruto says, walking towards Sasuke. The pinkette stretches until Kakashi calls for the team.
"Do a warm up jog, then stretch out what you need. Gai will be running your practice while I evaluate Sakura" -there's tons of groans- "but I'll be the one to punish you all accordingly if you slack off. Got it?" The silver-headed man says.
"Hai." Everyone responds, taking off on the jog. The pinkette easily strides to the front-middle of the group as they jog.
"Sakura, right?" A brown-headed teen says, red markings on his cheeks. The pinkette nods. "Well, I'm Kiba, and this is Shino." He says, pointing to another brown-headed teen, who wears glasses and a long sleeve and pants... while it's hot out.
"Nice to meet you guys. What position do you guys play?" The pinkette asks.
"We're both center mids. We like to support both aspects of the game, even though I like to go on offensive rampages. Thankfully, Shino's there to back up the defense." Kiba responds.
"That's... interesting." Sakura responds as they finish the lap. After they are done stretching, they part ways.
"We'll see you later. Good luck, Sakura!" Both Kiba and Shino responds.
"Thanks, guys! See you later!" The pinkette responds, heading over to Coach Kakashi while the rest of the team joins Coach Guy.
"Haruno Sakura, wasn't it?" Kakashi asks, and the pinkette nods.
"It's nice to meet you, Kakashi-san." The pinkette responds.
"Same here." He responds, eyes closing almost as if he is smiling underneath his mask. "Let me ask you... why do you want to be on this team so bad?"
"Well, I guess you could say that I'm continuing what my mother couldn't achieve." The pinkette replies, and Kakashi's eyes suddenly widen.
"Mebuki Haruno? Suna's legendary player?" Kakashi asks, remembering.
"Hai, Mebuki Haruno is my mother." Sakura replies.
Kakashi stores this information in the back of his head as he continues the tryout process. "Alright. We'll move on to the evaluation."
"Sounds good, Kakashi-san."
~
The pinkette wipes the sweat from her brow, panting, as she regains her breath. She's pleased with how she's doing, and it seems as if Kakashi is impressed as well.
"This is the last stage; we're going to put you in the scrimmage as striker and watch you play. Sound good?" Kakashi says.
"Hai."
"Get a drink, and then come over." Kakashi responds, walking over to the rest of the team and talking with Coach Guy. The pinkette takes a sip of her water and starts to walk over to them as well, the whole time repeating over in her head, "this is my moment to shine. I need to do my best, what mother and all my previous coaches taught me. I got this."
And she does. Her positioning on the field is perfect, and the passes she receives from the midfield have excellent first touches; the pinkette easily manages to get around the defender, scoring a goal every time. She receives Naruto's passes with ease, and when Sasuke crosses it, everyone holds their breaths, yet the pinkette easily heads it into the back of the net, even jumping in the air to strike it with her foot, showing an elegant grace and skill like no other. Everybody is thoroughly impressed. After the scrimmage, everybody meets up.
"Sakura." Kakashi says, and the pinkette nods for him to continue. "Congratulations on breaking history; you're the first ever girl to be on Konoha's soccer team."
Everybody goes crazy; Naruto yells, grabbing the pinkette's hands and jumping up and down; Kiba and Shino high-five each other and then hug the girl along with everyone else on the team; Sasuke just smirks, knowing that this girl is special.
The pinkette smiles, excited for her new future with this team.
