Chapter 4

"Hey Remus?" Tonks called. She was standing in the kitchen, looking through all the food cupboards.

"Yeah?" Remus replied as he walked towards her voice. "Is something wrong."

"When and where is the next Order meeting?" Tonks asked. Remus stood next to her, leaning on the kitchen countertops.

"Um, tomorrow night at The Burrow. Why do you ask?"

"Because we have almost no food and need to go shopping." Tonks replied

"We could go shopping now? Or is there enough for breakfast and lunch?" Remus asked

"Yeah we could do. Unless you fancy fish for lunch and toast for breakfast." Tonks laughed. Remus shook his head, he really didn't like fish.

"Yeah let's go" Remus said.

The two of them raced upstairs to collect their wands and money. They were out of breath as they Disapparated into a quiet alley. Tonks changed her hair to bleach blond, as many women who walked past had their hair like that. Linking arms they walking into the streets and in the direction of the shopping centre. They had decided to go somewhere crowed with muggles so they wouldn't draw attention to themselves, and hopefully avoid Death Eaters.

"Are you ok?" Remus asked. He could feel Tonks shaking a bit by his side.

"Just scared incase Death Eaters find us." She whispered. "Everything is so dangerous now I'm kinda scared."

"I am as well." Remus replied. He kissed her cheek lightly, causing her to blush slightly. "But I'll be there to stop anything from happening to you."

Tonks smiled as he pulled her closer to him. As they entered the muggle supermarket and got a trolley, they started to get the food they need.

"Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go to the toilet." Remus said suddenly.

"What? But, shopping and danger and Death Eaters." Tonks cried desperately. "I can't handle all that myself."

"You'll be fine and, I'll make it up to you." Remus promised. He kissed her lips lovingly before quickly walking away. Tonks looked at him sadly as he walked away, absolutely petrified that she might get attack. But despite her fears, she carried.

Remus felt bad for lying, but she couldn't know where he was actually heading. He walked straight past the men's toilet and deep into a crowd of muggles. He could see the shop he needed to go to. A worker in the shop gave him an odd look as he walked in. Remus's clothes and scars made him stand out as he wasn't as well dressed and nicely presented as everyone else who was around.

Remus was standing by a very polished glass cabinet, his eyes desperately searching for the thing he needed.

"Can I help you sir?" A man asked behind him. Remus turned around and smiled at the man. The man was small with blonde hair and dark brown eyes. A name tags on his suit jacket told Remus he was called Paul.

"Ah yes. Um, could I get this one please." Remus asked, pointing.

"A very nice choice sir. I'll get it and meet you at the till." Paul said happily.

"Here we are. Is this the right size?" Paul asked once they stood at the counter.

"Yes. Right size." Remus replied, he was almost bursting with excitement.

After a few more minutes of Paul going on about warranty and insurance, it was finally time to pay.

"So, that'll be £359.99 please." Paul said, his eager dark eyes waiting to see the money. Remus handed the money over in cash. As Paul counted it, Remus looked at the bag which held his purchase.

"You ok sir?" Paul asked, not looking up from the bundle of notes in his hand

"Just excited. I've been saving up for a while. Sacrifice's had to be made, especially in these times." He sighed

"I know what you mean." Paul agreed

"You really don't." Remus thought

"Well here you go sir." Paul said happily. "I hope you don't mind me asking, but when are you going to do it?"

"Tonight. Hopefully." Remus replied

"Well good luck sir and enjoy your day."

Paul handed the small, blue bag over to Remus.

"Thanks." Remus said quickly before hurrying out of the shop. He stuffed the bag into a deep pocket and raced through the crowd. He caught a glimpse of Tonks sitting by a bench, her face twisted with worry and she was playing with her hands. Her feet were nervously tapping on the floor, annoying an elderly couple beside her. Remus waved, catching her attention.

"Remus!" She exclaimed. She jumped up and ran into his arms. Hugging him tightly, she breathed a sigh of relief.

"I though something had happened." She whispered

"No. I was at the toilet." Remus said quickly, avoiding her eyes as he put her down

"For half an hour?" Tonks challenged

"There was a long line?"

Tonks looked over her shoulder and raised her eyebrows.

"There is no line." She said

Remus cursed colorfully inside his head. He took Tonks's hand and took her outside."

"There was one. You didn't see it because you were- wait...where is the food?"

"Since you were taking so long and I had finished, I Apparated home and put the food away." She replied

"Ah right. Speaking of home, we should go back." Remus said

Tonks nodded. They took hold of each others hands tightly and walked away from the centre. Once they were sure nobody could see them, they Apparated back home.

"Ow." Tonks groaned. She'd landed awkwardly and fell down, hard. Her hands were grazed and bleeding and her left leg tingled uncomfortably from the hard impact. As Remus helped her up, she winced loudly and bit her lip to stop her from crying out.

"Sorry." Remus said quickly. "I'll help."

"Thanks." Tonks said through gritted teeth. Remus placed and arm around her back, his hand placed on her hips. Tonks held onto Remus for support as he helped her to their house.

"Thanks." Tonks sighed as she sat on the sofa. Remus had healed her hands but could do nothing for her leg. The pain would pass soon.

"What happened?" Remus asked, worried

"Landed awkwardly and fell down. I'll be fine soon." Tonks replied

"I'll make you some tea." Remus sighed

"I knew there was a reason I loved you." Tonks laughed

It wasn't until three in the afternoon that her sore leg was useable again. She started slow, but was soon walking and running around everywhere. It was nearly four, she'd gone upstairs to get something. When she came back down, she saw Remus had smartened up his appearance. His hair nicely combed, he was wearing a nice black suit and lace up shoes.

"Why are you dressed like that?" She asked

"We, are going out for dinner tonight. Put something nice and then we'll go." He replied sweetly, flashing her a smile. Tonks nodded questionably before heading upstairs.

Almost an hour later she was ready. She was wearing a midnight blue and black strapped dress that went down to her knees, black converse boots, a small purple purse and a blue necklace. Her hair was also midnight blue and tied up into a high pony tail, letting her hair tickle her back. She walked nervously into the living room. Remus gasp when he saw her standing there.

"You look beautiful." He breathed as he hugged her

"Thanks." She said quietly, blushing. Remus kissed her on the lips before leading her to the door. He tapped his pocket to reassure himself that the box was there. It would be a disaster if it wasn't. Once he had triple checked it was there, they set of. They walked for a little bit, letting the cool night time breeze swirl around them. The stars watched over them as they walked in their light.

"Are we there?" Tonks asked

"Almost." Remus replied excitedly

Five minutes later, they were standing outside a fancy French restaurant. Remus opened the door for Tonks to walk through. She smiled when she saw the romantic candle and the delicious smells of the food ticked her nose.

"Do 'ou have a rezervation?" A man with a small toothbrush mustache asked. He had a very strong French accent.

"Yes. Under the name 'R.J Lupin." Remus said from behind Tonks.

"Ah yes. Follow me if you please." The man said. Tonks couldn't see it, but both the men, in front and behind her, where smiling widely.

They were shown to a table near a window. There were three blood red candles placed in the middle, giving off a sweet scent.

"Here are ze menu'z. Enjoy your night." The man said happily before he went to attend the other customers.

They both took a seat. Tonks looked around with awe. It had been many years since she had been taken out somewhere for dinner.

"What do you think?" Remus asked. As Tonks turned to look at him, he was holding a red rose in his hand. She took it thankfully and sniffed it. The gorgeous smell of sweetness and rose filled her nose.

"Remus, this is wonderful. Why are you doing all this?" Tonks asked

"I told you I'd make it up to you for leaving you alone, when we were shopping." He replied

"You didn't have to go to all this trouble."

"I did. Especially since it's you and you deserve it." Remus replied. He picked up her hand and kissed it gently.

"You're lucky the light here is dim because my hair is going to change colour so much." Tonks laughed.

Remus smiled, he wasn't sure he could eat anything, he was so nervous. The waiter soon came to take their order.

"Can I tell you something?" Tonks said once the waiter had gone.

"Anything."

"I haven't been to a restaurant since I was seven." Tonks said

"What? No way." Remus scoffed. "Your serious?"

"Yeah. My parents didn't have much time to take me out. Then I went to Hogwarts so that meant I was never home." Tonks replied

"Wow. But that's the same here to be honest. Never had the time or money. Plus, it's been too dangerous recently." Remus sighed. "Which was another reason that I have taken us out. Take our mind off of those things for a while."

"I can't thank you enough."

Remus's shoe had been annoying him for most of the night. But it was only when their desserts had arrived that he decided to sort it. He kneeled down on the floor next to their table and started to tightly tie his shoelace.

"What are you doing down there?" Tonks asked

"Tying my shoe. It's been annoying me all evening." Remus replied, not looking up. But even as he had finished with the lace, he wouldn't stand up.

"Tonks, things have been going really well between us. I haven't loved anyone as much as I love you. You are the most beautiful person I have ever met in my entire life. I guess what I'm trying to say is," Remus paused. He took the little box out of his pocket and held it up. As he opened it, a small diamond ring was revealed. Almost everyone was looking happily at them. Tonks gasped excitedly as she saw the ring. "Nymphadora Tonks, would you please do me the honors, of becoming my wife?"
