Chapter 23 ~ Dancing In The Stars

Remus and Tonks pulled out of the bowl. Their faces magically dry. Their faces showed sadness and shock.

"Nine years. Nine years have passed and it's only been a few hours here." Tonks sniffed, wiping her eyes.

"He doesn't want me to be his dad.." Remus said emotionless.

"What? No of course he wants you as his dad." Tonks cried

"You saw right there he wanted Harry. Always has to be Harry." Remus said bitterly.

"Hey, it isn't Teddy's fault. He's young and confused. He even realized at the end that Harry won't be his dad, ever. Nothing can replace you." Tonks said, almost begging him to stay.

Remus sighed before storming out through the doors loudly.

"Remus! Remus wait!" Tonks called. "Wait!"

Remus groaned and stopped to face her.

"Wait please." Tonks sighed

"Why. I'm not going in that room again, ever. It was a nice thought but, Lily shouldn't have brought me here." Remus said, "I thought I wanted to see Teddy, but I was better off not knowing."

"Look Remus, at least we know he's ok. I mean, if you hadn't looked now, you might never have looked." Tonks said. "And you would have regretted not going."

As Tonks searched his eyes, she could see that he was calming down. Running his hands through his hair he said, "I guess you're right. It's just everything we've been through, all I put you through. I was scared it was all for nothing."

Tonks nodded before taking his hand and they walked side by side along the clean, black, tarmac road. They didn't exactly know where they were going, but their feet took them where they wanted to go.

The couple soon reached a house, and they instantly knew it was theirs. On the door was a sign saying 'Lupin and Tonks Residence'. It flashed silver and pink, making it more noticeable.

"I think this is ours." Remus laughed

"Pfft, nah. What makes you say that?" Tonks said sarcastically before giggling.

Remus shook his head before he turned the door handle. What was inside made him gasp.

"What the-"

The inside of the house looked exactly like the one from when they were alive. It had the same cozy feeling. Even smelled the same. Only difference was, there was no nursery for Teddy, just a bare white room.

"This is crazy." Tonks sniffed, looking at all the photos. "As there isn't a toilet here. No bathroom actually."

"Well, we are dead. I don't think we need to pee, or shower." Remus said.

Tonks was still looking around the house. She felt as is she didn't know the place at all, but she did. She lived there alone for years. And with Remus for not nearly a year, a mere four or fiveish months. If that. They looked around for ages, taking very detail and smell.

"I'm going to bed." Tonks said after a while. "My head hurts from this eventful....how ever long it's been."

"I'll come with you." Remus said, following her up the stairs.

Their room was the exact same as well. They liked it like that, didn't have to change to a strange and unnatural bed. The two changed into their PJ's they found in the wardrobe before snuggling together under the covers. Remus kissed Tonks's neck before hugging her more.

"Night Tonks." Remus whispered.

But Tonks was already asleep. And as soon as Remus had closed his eyes, he was asleep too.

*.*.*.*.*.*The next morning.*.*.*.*.*.*.

Tonks woke up to some knocking on the front door. Slipping out of bed, she went to see who it was. She opened the door, but she was half blinded by sleep so she didn't really comprehend who was there.

"Thought you'd arrive here without seeing your old man eh?" a man laughed. He sounded very familiar. Tonks rubbed the sleep out of her eyes, and she saw who it was.

"So how long after was it Nymphadora?" The man asked.

"Dad!" Tonks cried. She jumped into his arms and hugged him tight.

"Hello Dora." Ted whispered happily into her ear. "How are you?"

"I'm fine. I guess. What about you?"

"Good." Ted replied. "How is your mother?"

"I-I don't know. I died not long after you did. Remus died as well." Tonks sighed. "All mum has now is mine and Remus's son, Teddy."

"Teddy?"

"We named him after you."

"Aw. Thanks darling." Ted said, smiling happily.

"So, would you like to come in?" Tonks asked, stepping aside.

"No thanks Dora." Ted replied, "I'm heading for breakfast then going to see the Stars."

"The Stars?" Tonks asked.

"Yeah. There are Stars here. Well, not really, but we call them Stars. And at a certain place at a certain time, the Stars start falling." Ted said. "It's beautiful."

"Wow. Could we come?" Tonks asked

"Probably. I'd hurry though. Ido t know when it starts exactly." Ted said. "Bye Dora."

Tonks hugged her dad before closing the door. She sneaked back upstairs to the bedroom to find Remus still asleep.

"Remus, Remus wake up." Tonks hissed, shaking him.

Remus's eyes opened slowly. He groaned before turning over and trying to sleep again.

"Get up." Tonks said loudly

"Why?" he asked, voice cracking from the long rest.

"It's time for breakfast." Tonks said. "And I want to see the Stars."

"The what?" Remus yawned. He rolled over to face her.

"Stars. My dad was just at the door and he told me about the Stars ." Tonks said, "and I'd like to go see it because I haven't seen him in ages and, I've missed him dearly."

"Ok." Remus said. He groaned loudly as he stretched before holding out his hand.

"Help me up?" he asked.

Tonks smiled before taking his hand. But before she could help him up, Remus yanked his arm back, pulling Tonks into the bed right beside him. Tonks cried out in surprise, but it turned to laugher as she landed on the bed.

"Ah." She squealed as he started tickling her. She tried to wriggle out of his reached, but his arms were too tight around her waist.

"Please....please stop." Tonks begged through laughter.

Remus smiled evilly before letting her go. She flopped onto the floor, face red, laughing slightly.

"What was that for?" Tonks asked

"Because you where there and vulnerable." Remus replied b

"I don't believe you. Not why did you tickle me in an attempt to render me senseless?"

"When I first found myself here, I really missed you. We got separated so easily. And if you had lived and I'd died, or vice versa, I dunno what I'd do without you." Remus said. "I know this sounds cheesy but, I want to make the most of the time we have left before we move on properly."

"Oh. That's slightly depressing, but cute." Tonks laughed. "But please, never tickle me again or I swear to Merlin I'll hex your bloody arse off."

"I make no promises." Remus said, smiling mischievously.

.*.*.*.*.*.*.*Few hours later.*.*.*.*.*.*.

Ted was now leading Remus, Fred, Tonks and Sirius to where he said the Stars would fall. Lily and Jams were nowhere to be seen. According to Sirius, Snape appeared just after he left after Lily came back. So today Lily wanted to spend time with him. James was....somewhere else, nobody knows where.

Ted seemed to be leading them into a forest. A very dark forest.

"Dad, you do know where you're going right?" Tonks asked before getting a mouth full of leaves.

"Yeah. We are almost there." Ted said

And he wasn't wrong. About thirty seconds later they broke free from the forest into a clearing. The clearing was pretty large with bright green grass, but that was it. There wasn't anyone else there, so their steps echoed loudly around the trees. Sirius, Tonks, Fred and Remus all stared confused at the sky. It was midnight blue, not midday blue, as it should be.

"Are you sure it's today? Now?" Fred asked, looking around the bare clearing.

"It is. I'm sure it is." Ted said.

Tonks was about to argue when a bright light flash in the sky. They all looked up in alarm. More lights., different colours this time, flashed brightly above them. Soon, there was no more midnight blue, just coloured patches, shining brightly.

"Wait for it....." Ted said, smiling happily at the sky.

None of them knew what he meant. But if they looked closely, they could see thin black cracks separating the colours from each other. Then they started to fall. They fell gracefully, almost like multicoloured snowflakes. It was also very peculiar because, they could hear music. Very very faint, but it was there.

"It's beautiful." Tonks breathed as the flakes tickled her face softly. She giggled at the light feeling of them. They littered the clearing around them, still growing brightly. Fred and Sirius were chasing each other, Ted was staring up at the sky with a wide grin on his face. Tonks was walking in circles, looking up at the sky when she lost her footing. She would have fallen over if Remus hadn't've caught her.

She gazed up into his eyes, lost in them. Their heads came closer and closer together as he helped her stand. And soon, their lips met passionately in the middle. And as the lights fell and drifted around them, the world was lost to them, a faded and distant memory.

"I think we should go." Ted whispered to Sirius and Fred. The two made a face when they saw the two in the centre of the clearing, but they left anyway.

There seemed to be an endless supply of lights. Because as they pulled away from each other slowly, they were still falling. The music was clearer as well. It was the song they danced to for their First Dance. Tonks stepped back from Remus even more, looking up at the sky and smiled breathlessly.

"May I have this dance with you?" Remus asked, his voice gently and smooth. Tonks looked back at him with his arm stretched out.

"I'd love to." Tonks said. She took his hand, and they danced. Tonks rested her head on his hard chest, listening to the strange silence that came from underneath. Remus held her closer and closed his eyes, enjoying the romantic music and the feeling of being so close to her. Her delicate hands in his. Her head against his chest. Her body, close against his....

Nobody knows how long they danced for. But when they had finished, the lights had stopped falling around them. But the music still played on.

It will always play on, until they need to leave..for real this time......
