Chapter 13

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I've been so busy and fallen out with my dad so, haven't had much time. But it's almost 5am, yeah, hope you enjoy.

---------------------------------------------------------

As the days went slowly by, feelings in the Lupin house were.....very mixed.

Tonks would almost always smiling, and she had a tendency subconsciously rub her belly. Remus on the other had was very troubled. He was still hanging into thin hope that she wasn't pregnant, but the symptoms of pregnancy were clear. But he hoped with all he had -which wasn't very much- that at least the child wouldn't be like him. Remus'd be lying if he said he didn't entirely want the child. He was excited that he'd be a dad, but, he was terrified he'd infect the child.

"Hey we should go, it's Harry's birthday party." Tonks called to him. Remus was in the bathroom, showering.

"Ok. I'm almost done." He called. His voice muffled by the sound of the shower.

A few minutes later, the door to the bathroom opened, and a troubled looking Remus stepped out, hair dried and fully clothed.

"Let's go then." Remus said, gently taking her hand.

"At least try to sound happy." Tonks sighed

"I am happy. Just trying to get my head around the fact that you're going to have a baby." He replied. "I mean a child in the war...."

"Maybe that's what everyone needs. A new, happy life to help us forget the ones we lost." Tonks said. Her happy mood gradually getting sadder. Remus wrapped his arm around her shoulder and kissed her lips lightly.

"Mad-Eye wouldn't want you or any of us to mope around over him." Remus whispered.

They had just reached an empty alley way.

"I know but-" Tonks started but stopped. They turned on the spot and disappeared from sight.

"-He was close to me. But, we can't change it." She finished once they had re-appeared. They landed just outside the fence around The Burrow. Remus kissed Tonks passionately once before they climbed over it.

Remus smiled for most of the night, but the look in Harry's eyes as they shook hands told him that he could see the unhappiness and regret in his eyes. Tonks's mood on the other hand had changed dramatically.

"Happy birthday Harry." Tonks cried happily, hugging him tightly

They sat down at the table and everyone starting chatting happily. Suddenly, a light streaked across the yard. It landed on the table before it transformed into a bright weasel.

"Minister for Magic coming with me." The Patronus said with Mr Weasley's voice.

Remus stiffened. "We shouldn't be here," he said almost immediately after the Patronus dissolved. "Harry - I'm sorry - I'll explain another time-"

Remus took Tonks's wrist and almost dragged her away. They climbed over the fence and disappeared as soon as they could. They landed heavily and breathless in the usual alleyway. Tonks doubled over, breathing fast.

"We....didn't have to run.....did we?" Tonks asked as they sped-walked towards their house.

"The Minister for Magic was coming, and majority of the Ministry hate werewolves. And me being there wouldn't have helped whatever he wanted." Remus snapped

"We could have hid from him though. Until he left." Tonks replied, a little hurt. They sank onto the sofa side by side. "I feel bad. We didn't invite Harry to the wedding and we left his birthday without explaining."

"We'll make it up to him at some point." Remus said. "Tomorrow at Bill and Fleur's wedding, I'll explain I him then."

Tonks rested her head on his shoulder and closed her eyes. Remus kissed her head before resting his on hers.

"You shouldn't have to deal with this because of me." Remus said, his tone dark and menacing.

"I don't mind." Tonks replied. "It's you I'm worried about."

"But you shouldn't have to run because of me. It's not fair." He said quickly

"I'm not running because of you, I'm running because of the Ministry. And for Merlin's sake just accept that I don't mind and I don't care that we have to run and occasionally need to hide." Tonks said, eyes flashing fiercely.

Neither spoke after that. Both knowing it wasn't worth arguing over. Remus had removed his arm from around Tonks and scooted away from her, giving her space. Her eyes had turned blood red...not good.

"I'm gonna he some food." Tonks announced after a while of silently watching the TV. Her voice was calm. She stood up as her stomach rumbled loudly and waltzed into the kitchen.

"Want anything?" Tonks called from the kitchen.

'Uh. Chocolate?" He replied. Her tone was suddenly very happy, and soon there was various bangs of doors closing.

Tonks soon returned with a massive bowl filled with ice cream, sprinkles, some berries and of course; chocolate. Tonks sat down and offered him a spoon. He took it slowly, and stare at the bowl.

"Is there actually any sweet stuff left?" Remus asked

"Yeah tons. I think. Dunno, didn't check." Tonks replied. She started laughing as she shoveled food into her mouth. Using the remote, Tonks changed the channel to watch a scary movie called 'The Ring'.

"W-what is this?' Remus asked as the movie progressed

"Scary muggle movie. Great isn't it." Tonks replied happily.

"Oh yeah yeah, brilliant." Remus said, his voice high.

Remus was actually terrified, he didn't understand how Tonks could laugh at the parts when people were murdered.

"Why are you so happy about this?" he exclaimed.

"I don't know." Tonks snorted happily. "Side effects of pregnancy I think."

"This is going to be a long nine months." Remus muttered.

"Probably." Tonks agreed. "I'm getting more ice cream. Want some"

"No, you and I both need to get to bed soon. Plus, you'll make yourself sick if you continue eating like that." Remus said quickly, stopping her. Tonks sighed before sitting heavily back on the couch. She lay down sideways, head resting on Remus's lap.

"You ok?" he asked, stroking her cheek softly.

"Feel tired," Tonks yawned, "but I can't be bothered walking upstairs."

"We could sleep down here?" Remus suggested

"I'd like that." Tonks replied. She lifted her head so he could stand.

"Be back in a minute." He said softly, kissing her forehead quickly.

He returned a few minutes later in shorts, and carrying a pair for Tonks. She took them thankfully and got changed quickly. Remus lay down on the couch, thinking. But the weight of his wife, snapped him out of his daydream.

"Love you." Tonks whispered as she snuggled into him.

"Love you too." He replied, arms slipping over her belly, holding her close. The silence was nice, as was the closeness of their bodies.

Very soon, their breathing became slow and rhythmic, they were asleep.

"Ow!" Tonks cried out. She'd fallen off the couch, causing her to wake up with a face full of carpet and an arm full of pain. Remus slept on. Tonks squinted at the clock, the bright morning light was blinding.

"Oh wow." She sighed as she saw the time; 2 pm.

"Remus. Remus, wake up." She said sweetly, brushing his hair out of his eyes. She smiled as his eyes slowly opened. They landed on her and he smiled.

"Morning." He yawned, stretching.

"You need to get up. It's 2 pm." Tonks said.

"Crap. He exclaimed, sitting up.

"Yeah. I'm going to get some breakfast before a shower, you wanting any food?"

"Yes. But I'll make breakfast. I don't want you raiding the sweet things again."

Tonks pouted but nodded, she knew he was right.

The rest of their day wasn't interesting. Very soon it was time to go to the wedding. Remus was wearing a nice, a little bit of an old suit, but he looked smart. Tonks's decided to go blond, and wore a short, red dress and boots.

"Let's go." Remus sighed, taking her had and Dissaparating.

They landed at the usual place at The Burrow and hurried over the fence and into the warmth. They caught Arthur on the way in who told them which one Harry was, as he wasn't looking himself.

"Wotcher," Tonks said as they saw the new Harry leaving the marquee. "Arthur told us you were the one with curly hair. Sorry about last night," she added in a whisper. "The Ministry's being very anti-werewolf at the moment and we thought out presence might not do you any favours "

"It's fine, I understand." Harry said, addressing Remus more than Tonks. Remus gave him a quick smile before turning to sit down.

The music soon stared, and as the Minister spoke, they could hear the muffled crying from both mothers.

"I think my mum was worse." Tonks whispered. "Cry at our wedding I mean."

"Probably, but Molly beats almost everyone when it comes to a crying match." He replied

Tonks had to bite her tongue to stop her from laughing.

"Ladies and Gentleman, if you would please stand." A man said. Many people mumbled or groaned as they stood. Once everyone was standing, the chairs floated into the air and stacked themselves on the side, clearing the floor; it was time to dance.

"May I have this dance?" Remus asked as the seconds sing started.

"You may." Tonks replied. She took his hand and they joined others on the dance floor. They danced slowly, occasionally talking to other or sharing the odd kiss.

Song after sing played, and more and more people seemed to be joining in. Suddenly, midway through a dance, a lynx landed in the middle of the floor and said, with Kingsley's, "The Ministry has fallen. Scrimgeour is dead. They are coming."
