Smashed Hopes
Jess walked out of the clinic, her blood still boiling as she pushed her bag further up on her shoulder. She began walking down the street towards her temporary apartment, when she noticed a black sedan following her.
She froze as it pulled up next to her. Her hands clenching to fists, already knowing who it belonged to.
Blainley McLean stepped out, her blonde hair pulled into a bun and sunglasses on her face. She walked to Jess who stared at her in disbelief
"Did you get it done?" Blainley had the nerve of saying. Jess blinked, feeling like she had just been slapped
"You set up a fucking abortion for me? Are you out of your mind?!" Jess shouted. Blainley gasped and grabbed the girl by her shoulders, shaking her roughly
"Shush! You're talking too loud, are you crazy?" Blainley snapped. Jess pushed her diamond-covered hands off of her shoulders and glared at the woman
"I am not getting rid of this baby. It may never know who its father is, but I will never give it up. My mother would never forgive me if-"
"Your mother is dead! She won't care!" Blainley said.
Jess's mouth closed. Feeling her eyes well with tears as she began to shake
"You're an evil woman. I'm not getting rid of it, final," Jess hissed.
Blainley's demeanor changed once the words rang in her ears. Her shoulders slowly setting as she cracked her neck. She looked Jess directly in the eye.
"If you don't do this. I can promise you, I'll make your life, any everyone's lives around you a living hell. I will ruin all of you," the woman snarled, leaning in to utter the final statement directly into Jess's ear
"Mark my words, whore," she hissed, shooting shivers down Jess spine.
Jess watched as the woman got back into her car and drove away. Her hand absently flying to her stomach.
Courtney hummed a little as she tapped her foot to the rythem of the violin solo she was performing in her dorm room to her roommate. Who looked at her with complete awe, her olive eyes focused on the brunette's tan hands as they expertly worked the small instrument.
Once she finished, Courtney opened her eyes and smiled at Bridgette as the blonde hopped up and clapped for her.
"Court, that was beautiful. Did you just write it?" Bridgette asked. Courtney shrugged sheepishly and blushed a little
"I may... have started writing it when Duncan and I got back together. He just... gives me so much inspiration," she said. Her chocolate eyes soft as she thought of the teal-eyed guy who held her heart in his hands. Bridgette squeaked and clasped her hands together in front of her in joyment
"You two are totes endgame!" she said, just as Gwen came strolling in.
"Did you really just use the word 'totes'" Gwen asked, raising a brow.
"And did you really just say endgame?" Courtney giggled, as she gently placed her Mother's violin back into its safe case. Courtney knelt down and kissed the leather case before sliding it gently back under her bed.
"You guys wanna grab some lunch with Zoey and Izzy?" Gwen asked, looking between the two.
"Oh wait! I completely forgot, today is Secret Santa Day!" Courtney said excitedly. The other two groaned
"Ugh I was hoping you would forget. My gift totally sucks," Bridgette said, Gwen shrugged a little
"Mines not bad..." she said.
"Do you guys have them?" Courtney asked "Actually better yet, I'll send a text out to our groupchat to leave the gifts in Gwen's room. We just wont lock our door, then we can all come back here later and do them," she finished, grabbing her phone and sending out the text.
Read by everyone
"Perfect! Now, we can go get something to eat," Gwen said. And the three all grabbed their lunch cards and headed out. Courtney closed the door behind them and walked in between Bridgette and Gwen down the hall.
"Hey... have either of you noticed anything off with Skye lately? It seems like shes completely pulling away from us," Courtney said. Bridgette nodded a little
"I have noticed a change in her personality," Bridge agreed,
"Oh... I hope it doesn't have to do with her illness. I hope she's okay," Courtney said. Gwen crossed her arms over her chest, a look of worry washing over her face
"I'm sure its just a change in her medication. She'll bounce back soon, just watch," Gwen said. The girls shared nervous glances.
"Well its about damn time we got this over with, I've been holding onto this gift for like 2 weeks," Duncan chuckled. Courtney handed out the presents to their said name tags.
"Huh...I could have sworn mine was heavier when I bought it," Courtney said, handing her gift to Bridgette. Who took it excitedly.
"Okay, wait where's Skye?" Izzy asked, looking around.
Just as those words were spoken, the blonde walked through the door, Jace by her side. Duncan looked down awkwardly.
"Sorry I'm late, I had to take my medication," Skye said. Courtney giggled
"Or you were too busy with Jace... Perhaps giving him an early present?" she said with a snicker. Skye blushed and rolled her eyes as Courtney gave her present to her.
"Should we go one at a time, or all at once?" Gwen asked, watching as Trent played with his gift, trying to figure out what was inside.
"All at once! That sounds more fun!" Izzy cheered. Everyone nodded and looked at each other
"Okay, we all open on a count of 3. One.... Two...Three!" Courtney said,
The group laughed and dug into their gifts, excited as to what could be inside-
"Oh...." Gwen gasped
"My..." Bridgette gasped, her hand flying to her mouth
"GOD!" Izzy yelped.
Courtney looked around to see everyone was holding a picture, staring at it when horrified looks on their faces.
"Wait... what??" Courtney said, beginning to open hers
"Courtney no!" Bridgette yelped, reaching for the present.
But it was too late.
Courtney slowly turned over the picture in the box.
Her blood went cold. Her knees turned weak.
Tears lined her eyes as she began to shake.
Staring back at her was a picture of Skye and Duncan laying in bed next to each other. Wrapped in blankets. It was clear what had just happened.
Courtney gasped and dropped the picture. Her eyes looking at Duncan, who hadn't taken his eyes off the picture. His face was pale. Skye's expression wasn't much of a difference.
"Oh...Oh my god," Courtney whispered, tears streaming down her cheeks
"H...how could you?" she cried, throwing the empty box at Duncan.
"Courtney! No, please listen to me!" he pleaded.
She backed away from him, shaking her head "You... You asshole! Don't ever come near me again!" she screamed, turning and running out of the room. Leaving a deathly silent room in her wake. Gwen, Bridgette and Izzy glared at Skye, as the boys shook their heads disappointed at Duncan.
"Un fucking believable," Gwen hissed
"You're a horrible person," Bridgette snapped. Skye winced, tears streaming down her cheek.
"You slept with Duncan!?" Jace snapped. Skye reached for him but he yanked away. Leaving with the rest of the group.
Duncan and Skye were left alone. Both stunned. Both heartbroken. Both feeling utterly guilty.
Courtney sobbed as she raced down the hall to her room. She opened the door remembering she hadn't locked it and flicked the light on, beginning to sob.
But.... No... Something wasn't right.
Her heart stopped when she saw her violin case was open on the floor. She rushed over, and screamed in horror.
There, in front of her, was her Mother's violin.
Smashed into a million pieces.
Courtney's knees gave out and she sunk down to the floor. Helplessly trying to gather the pieces of splintered wood. She was shaking her head
"No...no...please god... no," she sobbed.
Digging through the wreckage, a small note written on a piece of paper caught her eye. She grabbed it with shaking hands and let out a scream when she read it.
"I warned you all,"
