Let The Classes Begin
"And she's got really good hair," Duncan was saying, as Skye typed away on her computer in their yearbook office.
Duncan hadn't been much help in writing their weekly spread in the school paper, he had been going on and on about Courtney.
"I helped her set up her dorm room last night and we just like... Talked for a few hours. Her favorite animal is a cat, and apparently she started playing violin when she was-"
"Okay, Dunc, I know you really feel like telling me her life story, but I really need help writing this spread," Skye sighed, leaning back in her chair, giving him an annoyed look.
Duncan flushed and cleared his throat "Yeah, whatever. Sorry," he chuckled, nervously rubbing the back of his neck as she showed him what she had written so far.
"You're always so good at this, I'm always impressed," he said, she rolled her eyes
"Easy, Mr. Charming. My head might explode," she teased. He snorted and hit her shoulder with his gently.
"Tell me again why McLean insists on us writing about Chef's disgusting cooking," he sighed, starting to type away at her work. Skye shrugged and stood up, she cracked her back and went over to the coffee pot and poured herself some.
"Ugh Coffee," Duncan stuck his tongue out.
Skye rolled her eyes again and sipped slowly on the bitter liquid.
The coffee maker had been a gift from Gwen. It was originally supposed to be a gag gift, because Gwen knew Duncan couldn't stand coffee. But Skye had been grateful of her friend's generous donation.
Her and Duncan sometimes would spend hours in the tiny yearbook room. Writing, and editing their spread in the Pinewood Observer. Many students loved reading their witty remarks about the professors. They often found themselves going to Gwen and asking her to barrow her artistic talent and draw up some pictures for their articles. She never complained.
People were surprised at first, that Duncan Evans had been the first person to offer Skye help when it came to writing the paper. But he actually was a pretty decent writer. Often adding in paragraphs to hers when she found herself stuck with writers block.
The more time the pair spent together, the closer they became. Duncan would even call Skye one of his best friends.
"Knock knock," rang a voice from the open doorway. Duncan looked up as Courtney slowly walked in, holding a leather case at her side.
"I just thought I'd stop by and say hello before my first violin lesson," Courtney said. Skye smiled and ran over and hugged Courtney tight. Courtney laughed and hugged her back
"What was that for?" she asked, as Skye stepped back. Skye smiled sheepishly
"I never really thanked you for helping me out yesterday with the whole Heather situation," Skye shrugged. Courtney waved it off
"Don't mention it, we're friends. It's what friends do," Courtney winked at Skye.
"You want some coffee before you go?" Skye asked. Courtney's face lit up
"Oh goodness yes. I can't have a coffee maker in our dorm room. Bridgette says the smell of coffee makes her sick," Courtney said.
Duncan nodded "At least Malibu agrees with me," he said. Courtney eagerly took the cup of the hot drink from Skye as she handed it to her.
"I'll need all the help I can get going through this class. Apparently Heather is in it," Courtney sighed.
"Yeah, they'll make you take classes that don't pertain to your major too. It's so you get the credits for Financial Aid," Skye explained "For example, I have to take a dance and art class even though I'm studying the cello,"
"And I have to take a strings class," Duncan piped in. He casually leaned back against his chair "It's not too bad. Trent is in the class with me. Plus..." Duncan wiggled his brows "Chicks dig guys who can play the guitar,"
Both Courtney and Skye rolled their eyes
"Pig," Courtney mused. She checked her Rolex watch and sighed "Well, I'm off. Wish me luck,"
She turned towards the door, and Duncan quickly stood up "Hey, do you need help finding the building? Like.. I could show you, and stuff," he stuttered.
Courtney looked at him, raising a brow "I think I'll be good, thanks," she laughed and left the room.
Duncan sighed and slumped back down into his chair. Skye chuckled
"Oh Courtney, I just want to hold your hand, and walk you to class!" Skye mimicked Duncan's voice, with a laugh.
Duncan wadded up a piece of paper and threw it at the girl.
Courtney sipped her coffee as she clutched her violin close, as she quickly made it across campus and towards Leonardo Hall. Where her violin class was being held.
A few people waved at her as she passed, and she waved back. Smiling stupidly to herself.
"There's my favorite freshmen!" came a familiar voice from behind her as she entered Leonardo.
Courtney beamed as she turned around "Jessy!"
Jess was walking towards her, Adrian close behind her. Jess caught up to her sister and began to walk beside her "Hey you, how's it going so far?" she asked. Courtney smiled
"Great. I've been adopted by this awesome group of people, and my roommate is the nicest person ever! Although..." Courtney sighed "There's this girl who lives in my building who is hell bent on making our lives miserable. Heather Morris," Courtney said.
Adrian perked his head up "Heather Morris? She's like, super tall, with long black hair?" he asked, Courtney looked at the junior, confused as to how he knew a freshmen
"Yeah, you know her?" she asked. Adrian nodded
"My brother and her have a thing." he shrugged.
"Huh.." Jess said "Heather and Alejandro have a thing?"
Adrian nodded "It's annoying. Neither one of them will make it official, but they clearly like each other," he said.
Jess looked at Courtney "Why? What has she done to you?" she asked, narrowing her eyes.
"Not necessarily to me. But to some of my friends. She's already ruined Bridgette's reputation here, shoved Skye to the floor at dinner last night and got into a pretty heated fight with Gwen,"
Jess sighed "Sounds like she needs her ass kicked," she said. "But as long as she doesn't mess with my sister, I'll lay off," she said. "But, you tell me if she keeps it up. I'm Jessica Taint, I have a pretty big reputation here,"
Courtney giggled and looked at her schedule as they all stopped in front of a door.
"Well, this is my class," she said. Jess hugged Courtney tight, before taking Adrian's hand
"See you later, Court!' Jess called, as the pair walked down the hallway.
Courtney slowly looked through the small glass window in the door, and swallowed hard when she saw Heather was already there. Sitting in the back, examining her nails.
Well, here goes nothing..
Courtney opened the door and went inside.
