Chapter 2: Dark Forests

Dipper and Mabel grabbed their bags for the night, equipped with flashlights, food, first aid kits, and other assorted items.

Mabel smiled at him her teeth shining in the dimming light. "Are you ready bro-bro?!"

Dipper sighed, "Ready." He took a step foreword, Mabel took his arm and stopped him.

"No matter what we find, we tell Wendy first, got it."

He nodded. They continued walking to the opening in the forest. Dipper didn't know where he was going, he just had a feeling deep in his stomach, that something was calling him. So he followed that.

Mabel clutched tightly to his arm and pointed her flashlight in the direction they were walking, making sure they didn't fall in the process of walking on the dark. She was oddly skittish in the dense forests, her heart beat faster every time she heard a branch break.

Dipper smiled back at her, "don't worry Mabes, there's nothing to be sca-" his sentence was cut off abruptly by a large branch falling down only inches away from him.

"Well shit!" Dipper yelled.

Mabel pulled him back, "well shit' is right!!"

Dipper smiled nervously and helped Mabel over the branch.

"That was close." A voice said.

Dipper laughed, "Yeah it was."

Mabel looked at Dipper, concern lightly touching her features. "What Dipper? Are you talking to me?"

"Wow, you humans are gullible" Mabel heard.

"Who's there?" She called into the trees.

"Are you hearing that?" Dipper asked.

Suddenly Mabel felt a gooey substance on her shoulder. She looked over and saw black slime on her. She gagged and wiped it off hastily.

Dipper grabbed her hand and started running. "I don't know what's happening but it doesn't want us here at all!!"

Mabel panted and ran alongside her brother. The light from the flashlight shook violently against the ground. She felt her foot get caught on a stray root, tripping. Mabel rolled and jumped back up into place with Dipper.

He stopped suddenly, and Mabel slammed into his back with a painful thud.

"No.." Dipper said in disbelief.

"Hey Dipper I'm not sure if you forgot but a random entity is trying to chase us, sudden brake checks are not helpful!" Mabel said rubbing her nose.

Dipper grabbed her chin and faced her towards a statue in the middle of a clearing. "Look."

Mabel gasped.

Dipper walked up slowly to the statue of the demonic triangle holding his hand out.

"We found it." Dipper said.

"Great. Let's take a picture and get home, there is still a random goo monster chasin' us bro." Mabel said clutching onto his arm.

Dipper waved her off, "yeah yeah. Hold on a minute." He reached out to grab the statue's hand.

Mabel smacked her brothers hand away. "DIPPER. Who knows what that could do. Don't touch it!!"

He pulled his hand back.

"You didn't run the way I wanted you to.." the voice said.

Dipper cursed.

A black gooey figure walked out of the shadows. "Kids these days, always leading murderers to their destination. You'd think they'd gain more common sense. You'd think if they saw a demon they'd turn tail and run. But you kids are different" it said as it stumbled towards the twins, "so different."

Dipper stood in front of Mabel. "Leave us alone. We don't want any trouble."

The demon shook their head, "well you've already made trouble. And now you are gonna help me." He appeared behind Mabel and turned her around and grabbed her chin, leaving black slime running down her neck.

Dipper turned around sharply, "leave her alone!! What do you want?!"

"A new vessel, this one is getting terribly dirty, don't you think?" The demon giggled.

Mabel whimpered.

Dipper growled. "I'll be your new vessel, but leave her alone!"

The demons eyes narrowed. "You don't get to make that choice!" They screeched, holding their fist up and fashioning it like a knife. The demon shot Dipper a sly grin and plunged their arm into Mabel's stomach.

She screamed.

Dipper cried out and tackled the demon.

The demon laughed maniacally, pushing its hands into Dippers eyes.

Dipper yelled and, despite not being able to  see, clawed at the demons throat. His hands hit nothing.

His eyes burned and he couldn't open them, his hands fumbled around until they hit something. Dipper felt a warm body with the heat quickly leaving it.

"Dipper. I hurt." He heard a very feeble Mabel say.

Dipper felt a lump in his throat, "I know Mabel, I know, but you're gonna be ok. You have to be." He felt her hand caress his cheek searching for his eyes, and wiping away the slime.

He saw her then. Hole in her stomach, bleeding profusely, and blood seeping out of the corners of her mouth, along with more black slime.

Dipper collapsed on his twin sobbing, "Mabel I'm so sorry!! This is all my fault I shouldn't have done this I should have just told Wendy her husband was dead and gone, then we wouldn't be in this situation!!" Mabel put her shaking finger up to his mouth.

"Shut up you crybaby, everything is going to be alright. You're going to find Wendy's husband without me, ok. Take me back to the Shack so everyone can tell me goodbye. And find that demon and slap him real good for me ok bro-bro?.." she said quietly.

"Mabel..." Dipper sobbed.

She smiled, like she always had, brightly and happy. "I'll see you soon Dipper." Her breathing slowed and her eyes dulled.

"Mabel.. please don't leave.. I need you.. mystery twins?" He held his fist out awaiting a fist bump. "Don't leave me hanging sis. Please..."

Dipper screamed and stood up, "God dammit!!!" He walked shakily to the Bill Cipher statue and held out his hand.

"I know you're there Bill!!" Dipper screamed. "Let's make a deal." He grabbed the hand, and everything turned dark.

"Hey PineTree, long time no see."
