The Map Crisis

This way and that way the map led them, to all the places Ash Ketchum wasn't, but to none of the places he was.

And still Bunnelby refused to realize the map didn't know which way it was going.

---

Pikachu and his friends have reached the Lookout Hill, where Bunnelby, who holds the map, is about to tell them where they need to go next.

"So!" The rabbit Pokémon started to say, without knowing Persian was behind him, mimicking his every posture. "We first head east by south, then south by east."

"Of course, minus the magnetic variation, plus the wind drift, we clear go...This way!" He exclaimed, while the wind accidentally scrolls the map back up with Persian's nose inside of it. Bunnelby immediately takes the map away from the classy cat Pokémon.

"I wonder," Pikachu interrupts Bunnelby, while pointing to a group of mountains in the far distance. "if those rather forbidding-looking things might be the Forbidden Mountains? Where Ash Ketchum is?"

The group examined the mountains, and immediately, they knew that Pikachu was right. Those are the Forbidden Mountains.

"You're right, Pikachu!" Piplup shouted.

"You found 'em, buddy!" Persian exclaimed as they group was about to head towards the mountains.

"Excuse me?" Bunnelby said, causing the group to stop walking.

"The way to there is over here." He said while pointing in the direction where he thinks they should be going in.

The rest of group were confused because the mountains were over in this direction, but Bunnelby wants them to take a different route to get to them.

"But, Rabbit," A confused Pikachu said, while walking over to Bunnelby, who was reading the map. "isn't that them over there?"

Bunnelby's face expressed annoyance towards the electric mouse Pokémon's question.

"Now which are you going to believe," Bunnelby started to ask his confused friend, while giving him the map. "this official map or your own eyes? Look for yourself and you'll see we're right on course. It's all right there in black and white."

Pikachu was struggling to read the map as the heavy winds were constantly trying to blow the map off from his hands. Eventually, Bunnelby takes the map back from Pikachu.

"Why would anyone want to wander around, wondering which way to go, when they have a map to follow?" Bunnelby asked, before starting to sing a song.

A map is not a guess

An estimation or a hunch

A feeling or a foolish intuition

"Yes, but..." Pikachu started to say, before getting interrupted by Bunnelby's singing.

BUNNELBY: A map is a dependable

Unwavering, inarguably accurate

Portrayer, of your position

BUNNELBY: Never trust your ears

Your nose, your eyes

Putting faith in them

Is most unwise

Here's a phrase you all

Must memorize

In the printed word

Is where truth lies

"Yes, but Bunnelby..." Pikachu again getting interrupted by the rabbit Pokémon.

BUNNELBY: Never trust your tummies

Tails, or toes

You can't learn a thing

From any of those

Here's another fact

I must disclose

From the mighty pen

True wisdom flows

BUNNELBY: If it says so

Then it is so

If it is so

Well so it is

A thought's not fit to think

'Til it's printed in ink

Then it says so

So, it is

"Well, yes, but I think..." Pikachu started walking away from the group before getting stopped by Bunnelby.

BUNNELBY: Never trust that thing

Between your ears

Brains will get you nowhere fast

My dears

Haven't had a need

For mine in years

On the page is where

The truth appears

BUNNELBY: If it says so

Then it is so

If it is so

So, it is

BUNNELBY: A thought's not fit to think

'Til it's printed in ink

Never differ from or doubt it

Or go anywhere without it

BUNNELBY: Thank goodness we've got this

So, we don't need to fret about it

If it says so

So, it is

When the song was over, Bunnelby, still dancing, was waving the map around. Unfortunately, it got stuck on a tree branch, and the map was ripped in two. By the time Bunnelby realized what just happened, the wind was already carrying the other half of the map away.

"Agh!" The rabbit Pokémon yelled out. "Oh, no! The map! Get the map! With only half a map, we're less than nowhere!"

"After that map!" Persian shouted, before setting off to try to catch the map.

And so, Persian was bouncing after the map until he reached a big tree trunk, which is acting as a bridge between two cliffs. Little did Persian know was that the trunk is nearly broken. If it breaks completely, then the classy cat Pokémon would have a huge fall to the bottom. However, the bouncing Pokémon did not notice as he keeps bouncing at the center of the trunk, trying to catch the other half of the map.

"I got it!" He exclaimed but failed to grab the map. "Don't have it. I had it! I don't have it now. I want it again! I got it! I ain't got it. I don't have it. I got it! Wait, I'll get it...No! I don't...I have it!"

Persian just kept on bouncing and failing to reach the other half of the map, until eventually, he landed on his bottom hard. The impact caused the trunk to break with Persian being at the center of the crack.

"Hm," Persian pondered while looking at his tail. "I wonder what's causing this tail to fail. Maybe it just doesn't have what it takes."

The classy cat Pokémon's pondering time was interrupted by the sound of the tree trunk cracking and breaking into two.

"Yikes!" Persian shouted before falling into the canyon.

"ASH KETCHUM!" He yelled, as he landed on one of the pieces of the tree trunk and started holding onto a branch for dear life.

Eventually, Persian's friends caught up to him and discovered that he was in grave danger.

"Persian," Pikachu started to say to his trapped friend below. "of all the safer places to be, I don't think this is one. You could fall."

"Yeah! Well, you know what they say, 'What doesn't bounce up has gotta fall down.'" Persian joked and laughed a little until he heard the tree trunk cracking and the rocks, holding it, trembling.

"Uh, there's no time for this!" Bunnelby exclaimed as he is losing his patience over the lack of progress they should be making on their journey. "We've had too many delays! So, you just bounce out of there this moment!"

Persian chuckled a bit, but then started to say, "No way! The wind isn't right."

"But there isn't any wind." Piplup explained to the troubled cat Pokémon.

"Ok, ok, ya got me. The truth is..." Persian started to explain as the tone of his voice became despair and tears were rolling down from his eyes. "my tail just doesn't have...enough strength."

This made Pikachu suddenly remember another piece of advice that Ash gave to him the other day. He hopes that this advice might help Persian out of this dire situation.

"Oh! Don't worry, Persian." Pikachu said to comfort his sadden friend below. "Ash Ketchum said I just have to remember you're...taller than a beam."

"Really?" The classy cat Pokémon asked his friend.

"Or was it...slower than whipped cream...?" Pikachu questioned himself as he still cannot remember what exactly Ash told him.

"Do you feel any bouncier now?" He asked his trapped friend.

"Nope." Persian said, still sadden over his tail's lack of strength.

The tree trunk was losing its rocky support quickly. Persian's friends have got to get him out of there, or he will have a great fall. Fortunately, Pikachu has an idea.

"Oh!" Pikachu said as he climbs down the cliff. "Perhaps your tail just needs a hand. Could you...bounce up this far?"

Suddenly, the ground, below the electric mouse Pokémon, collapses and Pikachu was about to fall until...

"Pikachu!" Piplup exclaimed as he jumps down and grabs a hold on Pikachu's leg and a root, hanging on the edge of the cliff, to prevent them from falling any further.

Piplup barely has the strength to hold onto a heavy Pikachu or the root.

"Uh..." Pikachu said unfazed by what just happened. "how about now?"

"No-No-No-No, thanks for tryin'." A depressed Persian said. "I'm goin' out the way I came in...a second-rate bouncer."

Suddenly, the root that Piplup was holding onto snaps and the two Pokémon started to fall until...

"Oh, Piplup!" Bunnelby shouted as he also jumps down while grabbing to Slowpoke's tail and dragging him along.

Slowpoke bites onto a root which is keeping everyone from falling into the canyon. The root then extends them down further to where Pikachu could reach the crying Persian.

"Um...Persian?" Pikachu said as he pats Persian who looks up to where his nose touched Pikachu's nose.

"Oh, ok." Persian said as he grabs Pikachu's hand.

And just in time, as the tree trunk that Persian was on started descending to the bottom of the canyon. Well, they saved Persian, but now how are they going to get back up?

"Look at the biceps on that Pikachu." Persian stated while holding onto Pikachu's hand. "I don't deserve to dangle from the same precipice."

Back on top, Slowpoke was slowly feeling the pain of Bunnelby holding onto his tail tightly. While his teeth were holding onto the root, he mumbles something that no one could hear it.

"What's Slowpoky sayin'?" Persian asked his friend above.

"I said, "Ouch'" Slowpoke stated, while also letting go of the root that was preventing everyone from having a big fall.

And now, everyone started descending quickly down the canyon. Lucky for them, there was a small lake down below to cushion their fall. When Piplup emerge from the watery surface, he was covered in mud. He started to look for his friends until he spotted something that scared him.

"Yike!" He shouted as he saw a mud monster that was strangely in the form of Pikachu.

"Now don't worry, Piplup." Pikachu explained to his frightened friend. "It's only me."

"Oh!" Piplup said as he started to calm down until he noticed a group of mud monsters emerging from the lake. "Yike!"

"Now don't worry, Piplup, it's only Persian, Bunnelby, and Slowpoke." Pikachu explained again to the frightened penguin Pokémon while their friends clean the mud off their bodies.

Suddenly, the other half of the map, which got them all into this mess to begin with, slowly descends to their level. At this moment, Bunnelby grabs it with excitement and joy in his voice.

"The map, hoo-hoo, we have it, hoo-hoo, we can go now!" The rabbit Pokémon exclaimed as Piplup applauds him.

However, their celebrations were put to an abrupt end when the group heard a soft roar in the distance. The group froze until Pikachu spoke up.

"Worry now, Piplup." Pikachu tells his scared friend. "It's the Skullasaurus."

With the mere mention of the creature's name, Pikachu and his friends quickly rush out of the canyon, hoping to escape from the Skullasaurus and continue their quest for Ash Ketchum.
